can the cingular 8124 G4 run on the old AT&T Wireless sim?

gsm 02.25.11
os 2.25.11.1
have followed re:instruction lokiwiz 3a -copy cert and enab cabs to device run/ while connected ran lokiwizmsl.bat - results gave me lock code
put old sim in -- message: "you have tried 10 attempts times please wait to retry lock code"
it appears to never allow me to enter in sim code, will screen inactivity pause this timer?
is there a way around this?
