Hi,
I was going to buy one of these from a friend, he has just bought one and hates it.. However, when i was using it, it seems that the wi-fi connection has been disabled presumably to force me to use the service providers data broadband plan.

It is on the Telecom network in New Zealand and is on the CDMA network and is branded as the Okta. Wireless connections have been diabled so only bluetooth and CDMA data.

I want to be able to use the wi-fi on it so i can attach to my home network and wi-fi hotspots around the city. Does anybody know how i could enable it?

Cheers

Hi,

Theres been tons of discussion for months and months on how to enable wifi on the CDMA version of the touch (which I also have). Unfortunetly no one knows if the CDMA touch even has an actual wifi antenna in it. That said, you can assume that since no one knows if theres even an antenna in it to acess wifi that no progress has been made in regards of hacking wifi on the phone. Here in Canada the CDMA providers offer unlimited internet for anywhere from 9-15 dollars a month, meaning we dont have to worry about finding hotspots to use the phone. Now, that definatly doesnt help in regards to accessing your home network but check and see if the provider down in NewZealand offers a similar unlimited internet package. If that doesnt suit you and you still want the phone sometime this year there is supposed to be a micro WiFi SD card released. You can look that up on the internet. This will likely run about 100 dollars though and wont have any memory in it so when you are done surfing the internet you'd have to put in your normal SD card to access other programs.

Sorry there isnt anything more anyone can do to get the wifi working on the touch but if there is an antenna in it then I'm sure its a matter of time before it is in fact hacked!

Good Luck!
