I get to 3% and it stops, reboots my phone and pops up error 270 saying the file is corrupted.

first thing you have to do is install the application unlocker, then remove your microSD, then reboot your phone, then upgrade your phone
when you use the upgrade installer, answer "NO" when it asks you if you have an UNLOCKED device

Just flashed it, it seems just as great as kavana's but without UCWEB (I was going insane trying to change UCWEB into English) and the Chinese software.

However, keeping OMAPclock and Resco Explorer would have been cool -- of course I know you can download 'em, but it's just a convenience thing.

Starts in English, the main software is still here, but without resco!, the default configuration is little faster (the kavana ROM-s startup menu has 5 icons, and here are 3 icons... I will make it 1 icon anyway :) )
Some programs like Alarm one are still in Chinese, but there are no Chinese fonts, so you see just squares.
The font is small (I can't remember the font size in Kavana version...maybe the size is the same from there) - I will be glad to see some solution about that. I have a perfect eyes, but I hard read menus and other staff. There is no reason to be that small, coz the number of items on the display is the same :). The original HTC boot screen is here! :). Maybe clear type is good for somebody, but I don't like it. If you don't like clear type, just change HKLM\System\GDI\ClearType\Cleartype to "0"

Some tips:
When the setup process you ask you about english language, wait the phone to restart and start in the normal mode, and then answer the question.

The In the main folder of ricky's ROM there is a subfolder named "RUU_Excalibur_WM61_Kavana_080307" and in this folder is the ROM setup.
Can you read "Kavana" in folder's name? I can.

Ricky and Kavana and other cookers share what they done for theirselfs, to make your life easer. Don't make them stop to share...

It's not copyright by any stretch of the imagination, it's just giving credit to kavana for taking an insane amount of time and effort to put 6.1 onto the Excalibur.

Success to remove cleartype, but with still small font its look bad and I will restore the cleartype.

How I removed it:
Just remove all key HKLM\System\GDI\ClearType

Another familiar tweak but works for me with this ROM:
Change HKLM\System\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\limit to 65535

This will make your interface more fast.

IMHO, MUCH better than the Kavana ROM....SOOOO much better, EVERYTHING(almost) is in English from the start...its faster than the Kavana one, doesnt have all the damn programs that his does, basically is a clean WM6.1 ROM....EXCELLENT JOB RICKY!!

I advice you use last HTC WM6 mobile if you are new in this.
OR if you don't want to risk your new phone just remove everything in windows startup exept wifi shortcut. This will speed up your phone dramaticaly.

Delete the Chinese settings under Settings -> Connections -> GPRS, then add new

1. T-Mobile Data, Connects to: The Internet, Access point: wap.voicestream.com

2. T-Mobile MMS, Connects to: WAP Network, Access point: wap.voicestream.com

Delete the Chinese settings under Settings -> Connections -> Proxy

That should do it.

I have an HTC IRIS S640 from telus mobility. The Excalibur is very similar to the phone except for the touch jogr pretty much.

Will this rom work for my phone? or do i have to wait specifically for a rom designed for my phone? i could imagine that if i use this one, there could be incompatibility with certain things, but what could really happen if i try it out? will i brick my phone?

You can't use it.

The radio ROM will no doubt brick your phone and probably the normal OS ROM, too, because of the fact that there's probably hardware differences and the fact that your phone's CDMA, not GSM.

I had a hard time setting up Microsoft's Voice Command to tell me who is calling, finally got it working with a old Jedi Knight trick. After I put a ton of apps on my test device, the ROM went into slow motion, stop and go, mini Mr Freeze actions. That was enough to tell me this version of the 6.1 ROM was not for me, but Mr. rickwyatt made a good effort to provide a all English version for everybody. The best 6.1 ROM so far is the 080307 which has some bugs too, but better than the upgrade version 080308, which has more bugs. Got to call a spade a spade, yeah.............!:D

Like the 1.33 HTC ROM, you can't search contacts using the letter Z.

Other than that and some squares in the Alarm app, this ROM is very sweet.

If someone knows the fix for the Z problem, please post it.

I installed this version of 6.1 and I'm having trouble typing any text messages. I get two boxes at the bottom of the screen, one being what i am typing (no spaces) and the other a bunch of boxes (presumably a predictive text or something?)... how do I type normally?

In the upper right, next to the signal indicator - there is a chinese symbol. Pressing fn, I get 12#, and pressing fn again just locks that setting in as usual. I saw some posts in the other thread referring to this problem but didn't really see the solution.

1) Hit alt-space when in some type of text-entry field.
2) Press up (Setup).
3) Select 2-EN (for English).
4) 'Display Candidates List' will pop up (Yes if you want them)

Then, when back in some type of text-entry field:
1) Hit alt-space, then
2) Press down on the pad (Lang), and
3) then Left (to select EN).

You say 080307 is better than 080308, why? I've tried them both as well as rickywatt version and 080308 seems best to me. I had problems with 080307 in that the phone would get stuck booting at the windows mobile screen. I don't have that problem with 0080308. Nonetheless, these roms are a great advance for our phones.

It looks something like: "[][]IE[]WEB[]WAP[][][][][][][]...." So I bet it has something to do with my other issue.

I am also having this problem with the Rom. In the Settings > Connections > GPRS > New > Add, I am missing the list of connections in the "Connect to:". I will not be able to use the internet services without this. Anyone know a way around this? Please help! Thanks!

I acually just went back to the other version of this ROM because of this. Once the author fixes the issue, I will definitely load this ROM back up; but I need to be able to check my e-mail, and if I cant then my phone becomes significantly less useful.

If they are built into the rom, you will not be able to delete them later, so IMO, its better to just install then from theire native .CAB files

I couldn't even get my txt messages to come up so I went back the Chinese version. It's a pretty solid ROM so far. All I had to do was adjust the language settings. Typing wasn't all that hard either. I didnt have to install SetJogBar or whatever it is. I just hit alt and cap and I was sending text messages in english. I'll check yours out though when all the bugs and stuff are worked out. It's still ok though. The text thing is what made me switch though. Am I the only one who had this problem, or was it already posted on here and I missed it?

EDIT: Found a bug. In a numeric-only field (ie: number in Contacts):
2 shows up as e (you have to press Alt to get it to two)

Are you sure you've got the right build (this one) and not Kavana's? Most of the chinese has been removed but some might still be there. Where is it appearing? Have you switched both the language, localization, and the input to english?

The ROM is working beautifully!

I can't tell you how awesome it feels to have that damn Keytouch gone. Seriously. Also, it's great that Resco and Registry Editor are back.

EDIT: Found a bug. In a numeric-only field (ie: number in Contacts):
2 shows up as e (you have to press Alt to get it to two)
0 doesn't show up at all (you need to press alt)

The xt9.excalibur file is off on those two letters. You can either edit it in notepad or replace with the attached file.

Can you tell me what files and registry keys were removed that provided support for being able to read Chinese characters? I would like to make an English ROM with the ability to read Chinese characters, primarily for WMP for music and IE for visiting Chinese sites. I don't need to type or run native Chinese programs. Can someone tell me what's the deal with the text formatting on this ROM? I keep seeing all sorts of things for XT9 and ET9? I just want to be able to write plain english again without this thing spittin out words that I use. I used to be able to do that on WM6 and WM5. Just select plain old "abc". Now I can't figure out how to do it on 6.1. Settings are so confusing when you hit ALT+SPACE like the old ROM's.

I just updated my ROM to this ROM and everything seems to work pretty good, but I have a few questions. Before when my phone was idle it would shut the screen off, now the screen just turns white until I press a button, then it goes back to my normal screen. Also on the old ROM I would usually have around 23 mb of ram left, now I only get about 18. Is there a way to boost that up? If I get an 8 gig microsdhc card, can I tell the phone to use the rest of the memory on the actual phone for ram? and I would just use the 8gig for my programs and such?

aha, thanks so much for that TXT file man, worked like a charm!! Oh and @Technology, ive tried both version of Kavana's ROM, and I just dont like all of the preinstalled crap...takes up too damn much room...thats why I prefer this one, doesnt have nearly as much junk as Kavana's, and is all english...and @Mikey1022, why is it important to be able to search by "Z"? You cant just push "up" in your contacts to get to the bottom of the list?

ja, thats what that it, its a standby beep, it lets you know when your phones in standby, or locked...theres a post somewhere on how to turn it off.

i turned off unread message alert in sound settings, its at the very bottom. fixed it for me. doesnt beep when i am not using the phone anymore

Hello. First off, NICE ROM. I like pretty much everything about it, the overclocking feature thats built in, the clean interface, overall it's really nice. I am, however, not able to turn off the delivery report for the MMS. Nor, can I change the message sent notification from vibe to a sound, just to let me know that the message indeed went through. I tried to tick and then untick the delivery report option, and I still get the notification. As far as the message sent sound option, I would like a sound, so that I can hear it go through while I am driving, just so I dont drop my coffee on my phone as it vibrates, while my dog jumps onto my lap, as I pick my nose and text someone. Even a reg edit would help, if available, thanks.

No no one changed the welcomhead screen and regards ie key easily user changeable to anything you wish via short_IE.lnk and Ricky placed a changer in there for choosing cele/ie and even think opera mini? ;)

I'm no master and if you get the kitchen it should be a pretty simple task ;) To be honest the welcomhead has never bugged me since the ROM is so good and stable :)

I cook for Tilt/Kaiser to which kills enough time :cool:
