Any idea how to change the dialer skin for HTC Gene (P3400). Have read a lot of threads on changing dialer skins but they all seem to be for other devices. Desperataley searching for a nice (possibly blue coloured) dialer skin for my P3400. Any help would be highly appreciated.

its a zip file which contains the main theme and then " Glosssy black bars "

extract the (.tsk )theme to the windows folder , apply it (start>settings>today )
extract " Glosssy black bars" to windows /start menu / programs and run it ...

it will not only give you the glossy effect for the task manager but also a nice " windows vista ultimate cover icon " when you go to start > programs .

Hi ppl,
after looking to so many doubts i thought of posting some reply. It may be helpful for few of the people. I have a HTC gene and i took it 1 year back. I have tried all available softwares and operating systems on it. What i felt is that the best OPERATING SYSTEM for gene(P3400) is WM 6.1. If u compare it with other available OS u will find that its Fast, Have Bluetooth explorer which is missing in many of the OS, a nice feture where u c all the messages from the a common person together, Have almost all the features.
My suggestion is that try WM 6.1 and m sure u wont be disappointed.

There is a today plugin for that, but its not very good. Also, doing that consumes considerable amount of battery due to the architecture of today screen in Windows Mobile, so its generally not recommended.

First of all, stop comparing a PDA to a low end phone. Most smartphones and PDAs dont have this kiddo stuff. If you want that, live with a Nokia cr@p or something. I dont understand why people opt for Windows Mobile or any other phone without looking at the target audience it is intended for. There is so much in Windows Mobile that those chepo low end devices cannot do. Nobody ever said that a cheap Nokia phones cannot have native applications? And what about symbian devices? even the 20K plus range devices dont run gif wallpapers?

Flash player is there and it does enables advance functionality. If you want to see that in action, see the Omnia Widgets. They are developed in flash and run beautifully on gene desktop. The point is, the widgets or something like that has a utility in a PDA, what good does a gif wallpaper do apart from eating battery which already is under heavy use in a smartphone or PDA based device.

No offence meant buddy, but i get over sometimes when i see questions like these, so sorry if i said something wrong :)

As far as I know, Windows Mobile / Blackberry / or for that matter Nokia E series are "Enterprise Devices", So don't expect them to be eye candy or doing 'cute' stuff, if you know what I mean. For that you have Nokia N Seriese/ Sony and Samsung :D. May be you chose the wrong device :confused:. I have a HTC Vox, it cost me 15 K, its audio quality is poor, camera is horrible, but still its the best device I ever had! Because I know what I want from an Enterprise Device. How many low end phones have Active Sync or Outlook / Blackberry Sync ^^?
That is why all technology magazines say before buying a handset be sure what you want. You cant have every thing! Even the blackberry storm which costs a whopping 30 K doesn't have a physical keyboard (OMFG).

To upgrade to 6.5, you need to HSPL your GENE, which can brick your mobile(render it useless) if done wrongly.

Sorry, but this is a -ve response :D. You can not do call recording on Gene because of Hardware limitations. You can check it on the Vito Technologies' site

My newer roms have this facility enabled, its actually within the OS itself but not enabled by default. Flash with any of my latest roms and when you call, you will get a record option in the menu.

But there are limitations on this front with WM. Since the phone calls are not routed through the OS sound architecture, WM has no way to clearly record the other party's voice. It relies on the tiny sound of the earpiece and records with that. So while you will get clear sound of your side, you wont get that quality for the other side. NO software can do anything about it. Another option is to use the speakerphone, which provides a bit better output.

Well, i dont have it, but just for your info, its not fully compatible with gene. It works fine for controlling system volume, but it disables the volume control when there is a call in progress.

YOU WILL LOOSE ALL YOUR CONTACTS, SMSes, SCHEDULES etc etc WHICH ARE STORED IN THE PHONE MEMORY.

just use PIM backup to backup all ur "CONTACTS, SMSes, SCHEDULES etc etc WHICH ARE STORED IN THE PHONE MEMORY"

then format gene and install new o.s and restore everythin back by the same PIM app.

so simple..

Its an 'online' version of PIM Backup, coming from the horse's mouth (Microsoft). That is it syncs your PIM with an online server. So if your WM device is lost, just get another one (LOL) and you get your PIM back :).
To install on your phone, enter http://myphone.microsoft.com/install in your mobile phone's browser and follow the installation instructions.
Ofcourse, you need a Live ID and trust microsoft's security :D.

Not that simple, you can not run PIM Backup if you have given a password to secure your device.

Hi ppl,
after looking to so many doubts i thought of posting some reply. It may be helpful for few of the people. I have a HTC gene and i took it 1 year back. I have tried all available softwares and operating systems on it. What i felt is that the best OPERATING SYSTEM for gene(P3400) is WM 6.1. If u compare it with other available OS u will find that its Fast, Have Bluetooth explorer which is missing in many of the OS, a nice feture where u c all the messages from the a common person together, Have almost all the features.
My suggestion is that try WM 6.1 and m sure u wont be disappointed.

I didn't agree. wm6.5 is more fast and my battery is last longer. The new interface is better and most developements are made for 6.5. I don't have any problem.
