[How to] Custom Splash screen

Hello,

this is a small tutorial which is explains how to create a custom splash screen for HTC touch cruise:

1 - Download and extract tools from Attachements
2 - Create or download your image "BMP 240x320"
3 - Execute nb_image_converter.exe from tools folder, clic on load then search your image file :

Ok, ignore my last question i figured it out.

The problem i have now is with the rom update utility, everything is fine until the ppc screen says Loading..., at this point the activesync connection ends and i get an error 260 saying the software cannot connect to the pda :confused:

easy, just rename any gif to "animated.gif" and copy to \windows

The second splash screen (animated HTC logo) is the windows\animated.gif file. To disable it, you have to change your registry settings :

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimation]
"Enabled"=dword:00000000

The third one (Windows mobile) is Windows\welcomehead.96.png.

Right, im using an orbit 2, when i startup i used to get:

1. O2 Splash Screen
2. Windows Mobile Splash Screen (Green one)
3. Today Screen

I did the method in the first post to get:

1. Custom Splash Screen
2. Windows Mobile Splash Screen (Green one)
3. Today Screen

then i tried the method you posted to try to change 2. but i still get what is above

My mistake, Windows Mobile Splash Screen is not welcomehead.96.bmp as stated in my ealier post (corrected since to avoid other user mistakes) but welcomehead.96.png.

I am using Vista and I have a message witch HTC ROM TOOL when I load splash_screen.nb (150ko) that I have created with nb_image_converter.exe

"Size of this file is less than default. Do you want to assign this file?"

when I press "YES", I have a new message :

"Do you want to pad this file with trailing 0x00's to achieve default size?"

I press "YES" and I click on BUILD and a message indicate me that All seems to be OK

When I flash my HTC Polaris, the splash screen is white and my picture is not loaded.

Where is the mistake?

u must save the new file as RUU_signed.nbh as this is what the flasher looks for
otherwise u probably are left with blank splash seen as white

I've a question : with this method is it a "TOTAL" flash of the device, or just a change of the splash screen (SFR in my case !!) ? Because I've not the courage of flashing again my entire device just for splashscreen change !

Hello my friend,

It is one of these days!
I have done what you have explained.
My SD was out.
I did it under Bootload and off Bootload.

At some point a message telles me that my pict is not what it should be.
It was a *.bmp and saw that you have made it with *.jpg

Now I have a blank screen after soft reset, then for a shortwhile the seconfd SFR.

Please can you help me correct the situation so to have the image I have prepared according to your instructions?

I would like to add few details if I may :

Most of you on XDA are specialists or dam good technicians.

Some others aren't, they are just newbies like Yours Truly and would like to have more details. As I count myself down the drain, may I then add the following :

1- Excellent result. Succeeded.
2- (Make sure of course that you have gone through active sync)
3- Make sure your connection is DIRECT USB to the PC. (No HUB)
4- One message error may appear on "Getting updated devices etc.." just ignore and carry on.
5- VISTA works fine. (one detail : My XP PRO did not accept it)
6- Assemble all files into one folder. i.e. ROM_Update_Utility and Splash Tool (contents of these 2 should be in ONE only)
7- Put your device in BOOT LOADER, after you have removed your SD card

Rename isnt possible...
You can overwrite each rom file zipping the new rom file and unzipping the same in /windows... before, no only read and no hidden rom file, by file explorer (i.e. Resco). Obviously old and new (zipped-unzipped) must have the same name!

I. E. if you must overwrite the XX.bmp that it's a rom file:

1. create the new XX.bmp
2. zipping the new XX.bmp
3. remove the hidden and only read attribute on the XX.bmp in rom (old file), by a good file explorer, as Resco
4. copy the zip file in /windows
5. extract the new XX.bmp in /windows (with enable overwrite)
6. enjoy

No pocketRAR, Zip only. In this way, I haven't any problem never.

Maybe the guys/girls getting the white screen at boot after upgrading the splash screen all got a wm6.1 (diamond) rom installed? I also have the problem and remember that anyone said that it wasnt compatible with htcrt.exe right? Anybody can confirm this?

I tried with BMP 24 bit depth as well as 16bit depth but it's still white.

Dont mean to bump this tread, but it seems like many is wondring why theyre animated .gif on startup are making a white screen / image after running. Solution can be as simple as putting a wanted colour in youre canvas. Moust of the freebie stuff around the web (free gif whater animator) dont handle the canvas promply. Use Adobe fireworks and digg in. The white screen are there cause the program put it there.

Hey guys

Something strange happened:
I did this procedure a wile back,
but after a few flashes, my splash image was overwritten.
So i tryed it again, but now comes the interesting part:
First i forgot to remove the microsd so it got stucked
After a soft reset it didn't connect to the pc
so i hardresetet and it connected without problems
i tried the splash change again(with the ROMUpdateUtility.exe from the attach), but after entering into bootloader it showed :
SPL 1 .... (i mean it wasn't my olinex 2.2)
as if that was not enough, it asked me to reconnect the usb (like when you install hardspl for the first time)
Did anyone ran into something similar ?
I used a customRUU to update the splash screen and that one showed the "standard" olinex spl 2.2.

if you change the device from polaris * to breeze * , the splash 2 shows up.

1.Original / official shipped 1.25.408.1 HTC ROM
2.[Jul 03] udK Diamond R4 - WWE (Build 19960.1.2.2)

First I also experienced that the device hangs in bootloader not connecting to host PC (Error 246) - The device keeps showing 'Downloading' and then the connection times out. The good news then, nothing happend to the device which was working after soft reset.

Then I used the latest Polaris_customRUU.exe (by udK) found in this forum and it worked like a snap. I was using udK's R4 diamond based ROM. Maybe the packaged RomUpdateUtility is not suitable for these recent ROMs.

!!! Don't forget to take microSD out before flashing !!!

Maybe where is says Clic on "Save .nb" then enter name for you .NB file :
you could say:

Clic on "Save .nb" then enter name for you .NB file (Enter anyname you wish here) :

As i was thinking, 'what is the name of my .nb file?, where do I find this name?'

I follow the whole procedure.
This do not change my operator splash logo (Personal AR - Personal Argentina).-
This is my splash sequence:
1.-Splash logo (I can change it and it is the named SPL over the HTC Rom tool on ROM Builder)
2.-Operator Logo (Personal AR with radio, rom version in red at the bottom-right of screen)-Never changed, even with diff roms....
3.-Splash logo Num. 3 (HTC Logo on my device)
4.-Splash Logo is the windows starting Logo (changes with every different ROM i´ve used)
There is obviously a part of the ROM that the diff flashes are not accesing.
There must be a file that can de replaceced with a different picture then the operator logo.
