Hello to all,
I have a HTC 3600 with the rom “Karmba_a 7.2 eLiAs EN-20000” for a long time and everything was working great, until last Friday when it stop vibrating as it was suppose to do when receiving a call.
After trying lots of things I decided to reflash it. And it’s still the same, does not vibrate.
Does anyone have any idea what might be the problem?
Thanks in advance

Changing motor vibrator needs to go to repair.
How can see bord to see if there is humidity? Does not look like a easy operation.

it may cause of the loosen screw which stick the vibrator with the phone. I have this happen before, you can try open the case and screw it back or take to some repair shop.

Well, I'm having the same problem again, sometimes vibrate, sometimes don't.
And I can hear something loose inside the phone maybe it's the screw that stick the vibrating motor.
Can anyone tell me if there is a tutorial for opening the phone and check that out?
Thanks in advance

take a look
unscrew (inside trinity 1.jpg; screw circled with red) and open the cover, then you will see the vibrator and the screw that stick the virbator with the MB (inside trinity 2.jpg; circle with red). Screw it back and done.

Thanks for the suggestion
I've tried flashing a new rom, as well as trying a different headset... same deal :(
(I however haven't tried if those headsets work with other phones... so I'll try to do that next to make sure I'm not unlucky to the point where both mics dead)

Had a similar problem today--erratic vibrating and occasional strange noises. Thought it was the ROM that I had just reflashed but thankfully stumbled onto this thread - it was the very loose screw! Thanks for the advice.

Just to add a little levity, here's a solution that you probably didn't think of and most likely wouldn't have thought you needed. But... it's a funny idea, nonetheless... :D

One word of warning: There's also another screw under the stylus. Don't forget that one when you dissasemble or it might break.

The tool needed can be bought at most electronics stores, ie: Radio Shack, etc...
It is a #6 Torx driver. Also called T6 Might find it at Auto Parts store, but not sure, it's pretty small...
It seems the stopped vibration is almost always the loose screw. Mine fell completely out and was wedged against the vibrating motor, stopping it's rotation. After the phone was open, it was an easy fix.

OK my friend, i manged to open the Unit but did not find a loose screw, the only thing i saw was the Vibrator which didn't look displaced, the little steel cylinder is on an axis and turns arround, this would mean that when vibration is initiated this steel cylinder turns and should hit something to make a noise but i couldn't find what it should hit except for the back of the device cover when it's installed. Also i couldn't find any connection between the screw and the vibrator.....they are both in seperate locations and do not touch (so they cannot make a noise together). One more thing the the little steel cylinder is nearly flat on one side, making it a half cylinder........i suppose this is to hit something and make a vibration noise??
Anyhow either my unit is OK and some program is stopping the vibrator from working or i'm missing something in your instructions.
Your (& others) HELP!! would be greatly appreciated.

I apologize, but I'm currently in the middle of a trip to Washington, so I don't have access to my tools to check into this very well.
Normally, what is found is the screw right next to the vibrator would either be loose, or fallen out completely. Mine was out and wedged against the silver cylinder. I replaced it, and it worked. The half round cylinder does not "hit" anything, but spins very rapidly out of balance, (like an out of balance washing machine), causing the whole phone to vibrate.
My only other guess would be as you said, a software issue, a loose electrical connection to vib motor, or possibly a dead vibrator motor. I don't remember if you've reflashed or not, but could also try that.
Sorry I'm so vague, but I'm typing this using my trinity using Opera, so it's a little tough to research from where I am now.
Good luck, let us know what you find out.

Hi SuperSport
Firstly no need to apologise, i'm thankful for your help.
Anyhow it doesn't seem to me that there is a mechanical or electrical problem as all seems to be in-place within.
My ROM is "ROM-TnyYnt_02.08.2008-015TNYSXY-01567 (CE OS 5.2.20273 Build 20273.1.3.3)" ......which is kind of new and i only noticed the vibration issue after its installation.
So if you don't have any additional ideas to resolve this problem i'll just wait till there is a new good ROM out there ...........what ROM are you using??......which do you think is the best one??
I hope you're enjoying your Washington trip!!

HI Guys
I did try this trick but the screw is in the right position, well fixed, I believe the vibration motor's got to be dead ...
anybody knows a place where I might find that kind of spare parts ?
Thanks forward ;)

If I remember correctly, the P3600 does not have wires connected to it, but rather two spring prongs that press against the motherboard. You can see what I mean at this link:
http://cnn.cn/shop/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=vibrator&image.x=0&image.y=0
I don't know if any of these fit, but they are sure cheap!
Good Luck!

There is a link out on XDA which shows you how to tighten a screw within the unit (it also gives a Tutorial of how to open the unit)........maybe someone remembers & will post the link for you.
I hope this helps you (it did for most people who complained of this problem).

I think he's gone through that procedure, but it did not work, so he's trying to replace the vibrator.

Just a quick point to note on this. The motor has a flat side so when it spins it is unbalanced and therefore causes vibration. It is NOT supposed to hit or make contact with any other part.
On my website I've listed a few repair companies that you can try contacting for the part. Many will not list all the parts they can source on their websites - so it's always worth sending them an email to ask. Vibrate motors should not be more than a few US Dollars.

Hi & thanks for your quick replies.
I did go through the procedure (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376035&highlight=vibrator) and the screw is exactly where it's supposed to be, not even untighten, that's why I figured the vibrator has to be dead.
@ Mikechannon, I'm checking out your site right now !
thank U all !
(edit) it does have wires attached to it then is the connector. (/edit)

Unfortunatly i had the same problem, my Screw was also intact. The only thing i can think of is that it may be caused by one of the programs i installed, once i install a new ROM i'll soon know if it's a Hardware problem or a Software one....good luck.

My vibrate stopped working a few weeks back, after being quite noisy for a while. Followed this guide, took no more than 5 minutes including finding a T6 Torx driver and now I have a perfectly working vibrator (oo-err)
Cheers!
