Not exactly a comparison between the E90 and Athena but rather a past experience with 9210 and a few tinkering of my friend's E90. I will not dwell on those that you've mentioned but on those that I experienced using a Nokia Communicator or a Symbian OS device.
Memory:
Although the E90 has a way bigger memory capacity, it is still very limited to the fact that you cannot do a hard reset although you can format it using a PC or though a service center. This is where the flexibility of a WiMo device comes in. You don't like how your device works after installing a software, just hard reset it. It doesn't mean though that there are no disadvantages.
Software:
Contrary to what people have been thinking, there are tons of series 80 software out there. Most are not free but still you will find what you need one way or the other. It may not be as extensive as WiMo but E90 owners get by.
Quick Access to programs:
WiMo devices win in this arena. This is why I prefer WiMo more than Nokia devices. There are too many layers to go through before you can access what you want.
Transparency:
Tweaking the way we do it on our Athena is easy because we can access almost any file in our file system. With Symbian OS, you can only do it with a third party application.
Fashionability:
Athena sucks here. No need to say anything here.
Phone function:
No Need to say anything here either. Athena wins in the speaker phone arena but E90 wins by a world in regular phone usage.
ROM:
You cannot port a previous version of series 80 to the E90. People would be stupid to do that. But seriously, there is only 1 brand carrying the Series 80 so there are no variations worth cooking a ROM for.
Double screen:
This is what I appreciate in a communicator device like the E90. You can read SMS even without opening the large screen. Not good for threaded messages but good enough when you are in a hurry.
I guess that's it. It is more an OS comparison but hey, it is still a comparison and the reason why I switched from a Symbian OS device to a WiMo device. :)
