You mean the 3 sided one where you can flip through?
You can't really have it as a today screen. You can however set it to display on wakeup so every time you turn on your phone it's there. And when you lock your phone it is also there.

This can be happen and after soft reset. Just edit the mobile shell's shortcut in the windows\startup folder with a file manager(I use total commander) and remove the "-noshow" option. If there is not exist an spb mobile shell shortcut, just create one from the executable.
The problem is that starts in launcher screen and not in Now, and I didn't find until now how to change this. Maybe there is a command line parameter but I don't know which is.

you cant. search through the millions of mobile shell 2.0 threads. the closest thing you can do is that reg hack, or go to mobile shell settings and set the now screen to appear on device wake up. it cant be set as your today screen.

There is a shortcut to the Now screen. If you look where you can assign buttons it allows you to choose the Now screen. I am not sure where it is as an exucatable.

You can go to the Now screen with the "\Program Files\Spb Mobile Shell\Menulauncher.exe -now" command. You can assign it to a button, or a FTouchFlo gesture.

1.) Copy the "MobileShell.exe" application from \Program Files\Spb Mobile Shell, and
2.) create a shortcut "Shortcut to MobileShell.lnk" in \windows\StartUp, then
3.) Perform a Soft reset.
Now the Mobile Shell Spb Menu (Application) screen auto loads after the soft reset. No Reg edit required for this...
I have not seen or heard of a Now Screen edit as of yet but I'm sure one of these great Programmer / Chefs has one in the works... Have you seen what they are doing so far?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=374335
The above mention instructions does not replace the Today Screen but only bypasses it after a reset. If you close MS2.0 at any time, it will take you back to the Today Screen. As far as I know, you can not totally replace your Today Screen.
Good luck and keep on reading... The XDA Google search function can do wonders....

You can go to the Now screen with the "\Program Files\Spb Mobile Shell\Menulauncher.exe -now" command. You can assign it to a button, or a FTouchFlo gesture.
Thanks for this! With this I achieve to make the device starts in now screen after soft reset with the help of mortscript.
I made a shortcut with above command, and after I write this script:
run ("\Program Files\Spb Mobile Shell\MobileShell.exe")
Sleep( 10000 )
Run ("\Program Files\Spb Mobile Shell\MenuLauncher.lnk")
I put a shortcut of the script file in windows\startup folder and reset the device.
Now I have the now screen after every soft reset.

Be careful when using this cab.
I installed this tool on my german htc touch and now the device freezes all the time.
There is an error message saying " can`t open file MenuLauncher. Perhaps this file is not signed or one of its component is missing".
Then my device is showing the rotating icon for searching and doesn`t accept any input. How can i get rid of this without having to hardreset my htc ? After soft reset the device is still running in this error message, and active sync will not recognize my ppc to uninstall from there, so I need some help please.......

Thanks for the reply. These are the steps I followed:
1.) Install the today plugin

3.) Soft reset the device.

Hello!
I would like to find a way to go back to the Spb Menu (the main menu with the grid of My Menu, Organizer, Programs, etc). When I'm in this Spb Menu and I click on a program to launch, after closing the program, I get taken back to the WinMobile 6 Today screen instead of back inside the Spb Menu where I want to be taken back, after any launch and close from within it. Hope this makes sense.

Common problem with Mobile Shell 2.0. There may be a reg edit somewhere... I believe this issue has been brought up in the Spb forums and there may be a work around there also.

Hi all, and again, thx for the .cab and info.
I'm still having the following issue;
SPB MS starts before the screen to put in the sim pin does, so I have to go out of SPB MS and put in the pin by choosing the settings of the phone connection.
Normally the sim pin screen starts before every other program, so I would really wanna know how I could change the priority of programs that are in the startup folder, or if it's possible to define ur sim pin with some tool/hack so you don't have to put it in when you softreset.
Thx!

That'S exactly what I need. Anyone has any idea how to do this?
My workaround was to set the S2U2 activate if the backlight goes off. And in the settings I set the backlight to switch off after 10 seconds. So I can just wait 10 seconds in the spb Home Menu and wait till the backlight goes off and activates the S2U2 :)

Would it be possible to alter the memwatcher program where it has an interface or xml file that allows the changing of the screen that is displayed by default?
With all the great work done by people customizing shell, some newer themes have moved the clocks and calenders to other panels.
This would be a great update if at all possible.

I'm using some of the various altered themes available for Mobile Shell, and some of them have split the Now screen into two screens; a Time Now screen and a Calender Now screen. On some of these themes, they have moved the Time Now screen to the center, like the center icon on the bottom doc, and have the Calender Now screen on the far left. For these themes, the Watcher program automatically brings me back to the Calender Now screen, instead of the Time Now screen I would prefer... Any way to change this to work with these themes? Thanks.

I am getting the same MenuLauncher error
I really do not want to hard reset so any help would be appreciated.
Here is how I avoided a hard reset.
Since the program activates from "today" screen, the error stops if you navigate away from today screen before the plug-in installs. The Today plug-ins load in sequence, so the key is to open another file prior to that plug-in being loaded. After soft reset, tap start icon until you can open any other program. It will take a while for your other program to open. Once in another program (internet explorer for example) you should be able to tap your start icon and get a drop down menu again. Now open start menu>settings>system>remove programs and remove SPB Watcher. Soft reset and you should be back in good shape.
You may have to try this a few times to beat the Evil Empire, but it beats a hard reset.
How To Complete A Safe Install
Here are the steps to completing the install, including a safety net.
1. Download the .cab file.
2. Create Folder Spb Mobile Shell. This folder must be created in your device "Program Files" folder exactly as you see it here.
3. Find Menulauncher.exe in your Device Windows Folder. This file will show the SPB Mobile Shell icon and be 69.k in size.
4. Copy Menulauncher.exe file and paste it into your newly created Spb Mobile Shell folder.
5. Paste Menulauncher.exe file in Windows>StartUp if you want it to automatically boot after soft reset.
6. Access Settings>Personal>Buttons and change your camera button to access Help. This is your safety net in case the install goes bad.
7. Extract the .cab file and install it on your device.
8. Open Settings>Personal>Today and make sure that the Spb Watcher plug-in is selected. You can now deselect all other plug-ins if you want to speed up your boot up time after soft reset.
9. Tap OK to exit all the way out.
10. Soft Reset
If you missed any of these steps, you will get the dreaded "can`t open file MenuLauncher. Perhaps this file is not signed or one of its component is missing" error. If so, soft reset again and press your camera button as soon as your final splash screen disappears. This will load the Help menu before the Spb Watcher plug in can install. Be patient while it loads because the Spb Watcher error really slows things down. Tap Start>Settings>System>Remove Programs and remove Spb Watcher.
Once you have completed this process properly, the watcher will make Spb "Now" your default screen. There is a slight delay in returning to Now, so you may see flashes of your today screen. To make this less obvious, open Spb Mobile Shell Settings and select "Use Color Based Theme". This will kill the background image in Today and minimize the "flash" image. Don't forget to change your camera button back after a successful installation.
Now that I have the install completed. It is pretty cool and serves the purpose. I am going to play with Mortscript to see if I can get rid of the "Today Flash". If I have time, I will post a .cab and oem file that will make the install a one step process with no need for a safety net.
Many thanks to the developers of this program. It is a really cool trick and hopefully my contribution will make it easier for people to use your brilliant idea!

well, on his theme the first button is the programs page, second is his clock page, third is contacts. any time that my phone wakes up it should go to the clock page, which is the default 'now screen', but for some reason it is treating the programs page as the now screen. so now every time my device wakes up, it starts off with programs instead of the clock. just wondering if there is a workaround for this or i'm just out of luck? thanks alot for your time and help with this.

Then your application is loaded correctly and you should not have any problems with Spb Watcher. Once I flashed a new ROM, I had no issues either. I am not sure why but different installations of Spb seem to react differently to Spb Watcher.

I love this program, there is the slight flash that isn't bad but if that minimizes it would be perfect. The only thing I've noticed it since installing this sometimes it takes an especially long time to boot, it will stay stuck in the splash screen until I hit the reset button several times, even not until I remove my sd card. I have all other today plugins disabled is there any reason that you could think of for this? Thanks in advance.

I guess there's no point in having quickmenu loaded in background now... u guys just totally make the switch to mobile shell for all navigation?
yep, pretty much all mobile shell now. I did leave the HTC Diamond Large Start menu cab installed, that way i can use a finger-friendly start menu. Also, I have the 'windows' button mapped to the start menu, so Ii can easy bring up the start menu even with mobile shell showing. I removed all my today apps, HTC Home, HHC1.0, SPB PP4 today plugin, HTC task manager 2.1, smooth battery icon cab, and turned off the taskbar gestures for mobile shell because I never need them anymore as Mobile Shell is my Today....

No change when I installed this to either Memory or Card on my AT&T Tilt.
Anyone else having this? I tried a soft reset after each of the installs.
Still, when ending programs, it returns to the original WM6 today screen.
I'm running the ROM version 1.62.502.0

did you soft rest your device? And don't ever install a today plugin to storage card, you will have major issues with that.

Now working.
For some reason, Spbwatcher was not showing up as Today plug-in that could be selected.
But after de-installing, soft reset, then reinstalling, now shows as one of the plug-ins that can be selected under Settings: Today-Items.
This is GREAT! Just what I was looking for. Many thanks to everyone involved in creating.

You are the greediest member on this board! come on now. What you asked for is not an easy task first of all, second, its kind of useless, just use HTC Home, it has everything SPB Menu has on the first screen.

I guess there's no point in having quickmenu loaded in background now... u guys just totally make the switch to mobile shell for all navigation?
YES, all naviagtion is done via MS2.1 for me now. The real start menu doesnt even get used, I mapped the windows hardware button to the My Menu of MS2.1 and then just mimic the same shortcuts from Start menu to My Menu. The only time I have to use the stylus or the real start menu is when I have to go deep into some settings or application that is just too hard to use via finger taps.
I've removed the following apps as they are no longer needed since I use SPB MS2.1 as my today screen:
HTC Home
HTC Home Customizer
HTC Diamond HHC files for HTC Home
HTC Task Manager 2.1 Big Buttons
Quick Menu
SPB Diary
Smooth Battery Icons cab
HTC Enlarge Title Bar
HTC Enlarge Start Menu (it's gone for good now, see prior post)

you cant. search through the millions of mobile shell 2.0 threads. the closest thing you can do is that reg hack, or go to mobile shell settings and set the now screen to appear on device wake up. it cant be set as your today screen.

Now open start menu>settings>system>remove programs and remove SPB Watcher. Soft reset and you should be back in good shape.

it does not work properly yet. But I didn't need a hard reset to solve it. You can just 'deselect' your todayscreen when it happens (by pressing the call button for example). If it does acure, all you have to do is uninstall the cab file (through the standard uninstall software).
but that doesn't mean that this app is functional already. Hopefully someone can pick it up and build a good one. It doesn't seem hard to me actually.
works perfectly for me ever since day 1. it's not very complicated, it just redirects to MS Now Page when the OS gets a call for the today screen. It has worked since day for me.

I run a htc touch with a dutch T-mobile rom. I think the dutch foldernames are messing it up for me.
I get the error that is discucced here quite some time. 'Wasnt able to start unsertified .exe file' (something like that, I recall).. "Perhaps this file is not signed or one of its component is missing".. that one.
I'm sure you are right, you are not using a WWE ROM, you are using a foreign language ROM. SPBWatcher is looking for an app (well sort of an app extension) called *Now, which is part of SPB Mobile Shell. Most likely *NOW is not the name of the app extension when used with localized language.

The install path of my Spb Mobile shell....
But i think i've tried this before you post a reply :)

Thanks for the tip!

Nice app. This works fine on my Kaiser with Spb MS 2.1 does exactly what it says. Would be great if we could have the option of viewing the old today screen. I find i do need to view it on occasions for instance it has things like SPB GPRS monitor on it and SPB weather that i need to view. I have also found it seems to slow the device a little but not nough to worry me. This is a great idea just needs a little more develpment and flexibility. Thanks looking forward to the next version???

I modified the memwatcher sdk sample to launch spb now screen whenever user gets to today screen. Install the CAB file and every time when you return to today screen it'll quickly put you back at spb now screen.
Can someone explain what this does, if anything, to the registry? I'm asking because if at some point in the future SPB does rewrite the program to perform this function, I wonder if this utility might not interfere. And even though you can uninstall a program, often leftover registry entries can create problems.
Is it (cleanly, completely) reversible with any changes to the registry restored upon uninstall?

Non-English devices/roms
On my device it's:
Program/Spb Mobile Shell/
That's correct. When you have an rom in another language the progam-directory has another name and the launcher isn't found.
So:
1. create the directory "Program Files"
2. create in this directory another directory "Spb Mobile Shell"
3. copy "MenuLauncher.exe" from your local installation in this directory.
4. have fun. :D

I love the SBP Mobile and SBPWatcher Combo.
Only problem I have now is I need an easier way to access the "X-Button" feature to shut down programs and free up memory.
I currently have to go into the today settings and turn off the sbpwatcher plugin, then shut down programs, then go back in and turn the watcher back on.
Is there a better way?

Yes.
Go to the Programs screen in MobileShell -> Tools -> Task Manager and lauch it.
You'll see that it will appear in your small icon bar(s) at the top of MS. Pin that to the main screen and you'll have a finger-friendly way to close programs globally or individually.

Ok, here's a 'how to' for my foreign (dutch) i900 omnia
Install spbwatcher.cab on 'my device' (NOT my storage!)
launch the explorer on your device
and go to: my device\programmabestanden*(can vary depending on your language)\spb mobile shell\
copy menulauncher.exe by pressing once (and hold!) on this filename
then select copy
* if not exactly called 'program files' do this:
(I had to create this path:
my device\program files\spb mobile shell\
manualy, using the explorer:
locate my device... menu... select new folder...type program files...etc)
When you're in the last dir (spb mobile shell) you just created...
press once (and hold) and select 'paste'... now you should see
menulancher.exe in that new dir.
Reset your omnia and goto Today (Vandaag in Dutch)
click on tab items and make sure you only select spbwatcher...
Should be working properly now... no more 'Today' screen...
sooo 2007 :-)
Mission accomplished! :D
Ps. here's a how to if you get an error message and you phone locks up
due to that error message... reset again... and before you enter the pin code
for your phone-sim click on 'start'...
you can then go to settings and unselect spbwatcher in your Today/Items tab.
Credits belong also to 'dreamboy'... from this Dutch forum (http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_messages/1312540/last):

I must be more unlucky than some of you guys.
After soft reset: menulauncher problem. no keys work anymore.
But I can not deinstall spb watcher. My USB connection setting on my phone is still on "mass device" setting and not ActiveSync.
No keys worked on the phone so changing this setting to activesync is not possible. I need activesync to de-install Spb watcher.
I can browse the phone but only the storage card...
I will now hard reset it. :-(

Would it be possible to alter the memwatcher program where it has an interface or xml file that allows the changing of the screen that is displayed by default?
With all the great work done by people customizing shell, some newer themes have moved the clocks and calenders to other panels.

SPB Watcher works great on my Omnia, but I had a quick question/request:
Would it be possible to modify this app to allow a 'switch'? I am thinking if there were an icon you could hit to switch Watcher on and off easily...I like having Shell open automatically most of the time, but there are still instances that I need/like my Today screen as well, so an easy way to turn Watcher off without uninstalling would be great!!!

Thanks for your quick reply.
Seems to be the same problem. Could this be a language problem? I am running on Windows Mobile v6 with local DK.

Can I by any means provide some log/debug information regarding this problem?

This could happen because the Spbwatcher program is not localizable and by default the operating system supported language is English.
So, have you created the \program files\spb mobile shell\ path and then copied the needed files in it?
In this way, I have solved the problem (WM6.1 ITA version)

Believe you are right. In Danisk "Program files" are = "Programmer". Can I change this location in the setup.xml file or do I have to re-install Spb Menu shell with the "Program Files" location?

No need to reintall the application.
1. First of all, you can create the "\Program Files\Spb Mobile Shell" folders and then copy the
MenuLauncher.exe file in it;
2. Then, you can install the spbwatcher.cab file, then soft reset of your device;
3. Now, every time you push the red receiver button, you should see the old today screen for some seconds, then the SPBMobile Shell screen.

:( Seems to work as it is intended to be but after softreset the todayscreen is empty at all. I've to reactivate the plugin again. Unfortunatelly the todayscreen stays empty also after deinstallation of spbwatcher and a reset when I choose another plugin for the todayscreen.
How can I reactivate any Todayscreen Plugin to be long-lasting again?
OK: I found the problem it wasn't spbwatcher it was a Tool called "Rotation Service", which controls also the today plugins.

Is it possible to change the time, when spbWatcher go to spbTodayScreen, ex. after 5 sec. ?
And question number 2. How put colour bitmap as a wallpaper in classic view (with analog clock) ?

How do you get back today screen just breifly?
Could this prog be adapted so that when you minimize (swipe down the screen) SPB you can get back to the today screen, but not when you press red or another program tries to??

First: This is great! Might be exactly what I am looking for
I have a small question about though:
The main annoyance when using spb MS (except having the today screen pop up at all times) was that it hid notifications about new sms/mail, discovered wlan etc. Will this .cab turn the spb ms into a today plugin, and so fix this issue, or will it only launch spb ms instead of the today screen?

I have a tilt, and I found a bypass to get to your start up drop down menu, have yet to find a way to keep the OEM today screen up tho'. I set my "ok" button on the side of my phone, underneath the scroll - to bring up my start menu. When I touch it, it brings the start menu up and OEM today screen very briefly, then goes back to the spb screen. Well, when I tap the button to get that quick flash, then tap it again and hold it until the spb menu comes back, when I let go of the "ok" button the start menu then drops down. At least you can access that easily. Hope this helps.

Thanks a ton. This works like a charm on my device (see my sig).
It would be great if we could have a programme link/shortcut (like in Spb Mobile Shell 3) to activate today screen. I sometimes have to use the today screen to dismiss notifications and to update HTC Weather so that it displays on S2U2.
Presently we have to disable the today plugin.
Many thanks!!!

I was having an issue where this was not activating SPB Mobile Shell even after installing SpbWatcher. It turns out that I had too much stuff on the Today screen, preventing the mobile watcher from being displayed. If you scroll down the screen, it would magically launch SPB Mobile Shell.
The solution, for me, was to disable everything else on my Today screen (calendar, etc.)

Thanks, it worked fine with Spb Mobile Shell 3.5.1.
