A brief survey to sastisfy my own curiosity:

How often do you guys use these apps?

If so, do you find them functional?

Do you use Bluetooth Audio or stick it out with the speaker?

Do you use them on 3G, Wifi only, or even Edge?

For me qaulity is rubbish on both using wi-fi so I don't bother anymore

I agree, Skype sounded like poo over wi-fi, and fring doesn't even open on my phone anymore.

On HTC Herald, using Skype, the call quality was crap because first, I was with Tmobile and edge was too slow. I got the kasier tytn II, and switched to at&t. Skype call quailty was alittler better now with their 3g and wifi. But then I begain to learn about different radios frequencies and how they can significantly increase/improve your reception. My skype stutters very little and the call quality is very good over 3g.

I don't use it often (twice a week maybe) I mainly use it to save my (anytime) minutes during the day and it comes in handy with I want to make international phone calls. I may just upgrade to the $99/month (Unlimited calling) plan:eek:

But in a nutshell, I believe you can improve your Skype (or Fring) call quality by experimenting with different radios.

Bluetooth and skype? Something I don't recommend, but I prefer the wired head set with Skype.

Hope this helps

Looks like that fring was not prepared that WM 6.1 will appear. Everyone who has this version of WM is not able to use fring now. used to have fring over wife - quaility was fine. skype is heavy memmory eater so only tested it nothing else

I tried using 3G but the quality was crap.
Wifi works fine for me - I use Skype quite often at home.
I find that using the head set which came with my TyTN II offers far superior call quality than the speaker.

Just installed Skype on my Tilt. All went well, but it seems to only want to be on speakerphone. Also, my call to echo shows no microphone present. I looked for settings to change audio prefs and could not find any. Any suggestions?

I use Skype all the time for overseas calls on both my PC and Kaiser.
I am using Dutty's 6.1 Non Palmsms version and the call quality is fine.
Using Radio 1.64.08.21

So, can I use Skype to make outgoing calls to landlines and other non-skype cell phones? Can I use it to get incoming calls of the same nature?

I read somewhere that Skype and any/all other program will ONLY use the phone speaker. It seems that the only funtions that will use the ear speaker is the phone program. Unfortunately my spearkerphone on my ATT Tilt does not function well or at all. Apparently this seems to be a very common problem with the Tilt... I suppose I can still use Skype for text chatting.

Is this true? I was hoping I wouldn't have to sign up for any minutes with ATT if I had Skype :(

If you plug in the headset that came with your phone, Skype (Windows Mobile?) will use that instead. Call quality is much better for me using the headset.

I rebooted my router and got Skype to hear me. The quality is not so good with the speakerphone. Unfortunately the Tilt doesn't have a standard wired headset that I know of. I thought maybe the bluetooth headset might work, but it does not connect to Skype at all. It just invokes the voice command dialer...

I think there is a jack for a stereo headset but not sure which one is compatible... Will have to do some research.

On my kaiser, dutty's 6.1 ROM, fring works better than skype... call quality, connection timings, all are good.. maybe due to HSDPA..

I'm using Skype over HSDPA and WiFi and quite satisfy with it, voice clarity is good (using Sony 970 Bluetooth), good call handling, just don't try to use it over Edge

you need to get a headset that does both handsfree and headset profiles. I have the lubix stereo headphones and it works great both as wireless headphones and handsfree.

For the person thinking about just going with skype as voice, your limited to where you have good 3G connection.

I use both for my Tilt and Fring for my N75. I like Skype better because it connects faster. Skype also has echo cancelation feature. When I use Skype on my Tilt, I turn the volume all the way down and put the speakerphone next to my ear and use it like regular phone. It's pretty clear. The sound cuts in and out if the connection drops down to EDGE. The tilt routes the audio to the speaker because it's a Windows Mobile program. the N75 is able to route the sound to the ear piece. The audio quality is better on the tilt due to HSDPA speed instead of the the N75's UMTS speed but overall, the N75 is more enjoyable because it feels more like talking on regular phone.
