Ok, so the Micro version has been working flawlessly as expected. MMS and SMS work great. Internet working fine, and FAST AS HELL. I love the fact that it's pretty much bare and you can just add wtv you want. UC makes this really simple. Quickmenu is working great.

However, the lack of using MP3s as ringtones is an issue, but as you said before, there should be a new release Monday with those fixes. Looking forward to that release!

Hey T-man, you think you can hook me up with the HTC Home cab that you used for the Biggy version? can't seem to find the same one you used. It would be greatly appreciated!

One final thing. I seem to remeber someone on here saying they had successfully used a microSDHC 8gb card, and I was just wondering if this was with a T-Mobile Wing, or another variant of the phone? I just purchased an 8gb uSD card, and am hopeful it will work.

Hey ttran, good work with this ROM, I really appreciate it. I do have one thing though. Would you maybe be able to add in Windows Live Messenger on the next release? Its not a big deal because it really only took me like 2 minutes to find a cab file here on xda-dev, but it would be awesome to have it included. Or, if you have a better messenger program that would be cool too. Its the only thing I think its really missing.

Can we please refrain from comments like these that clutter up the thread? I mean, you already said it took you an insignificant amount of time to find it and install the program so it wouldn't be too hard to do it every time you flash. Adding little stuff here and there would just make people too 'choosey.' Palringo is a popular messaging app that supports Windows Messenger and proxy settings, though I haven't got it to work for myself. I don't know what a uSD is but the 8GB SDHC should work fine.

There seems to be some kind of configurations issues here.
This was my thought at first, too. I pulled all the settings direct from the stock T-Mo rom and applied them manually in OT4.

My custom roms are not the same as the original, you will have to configure it after you flash it.

I've always gone through the configuration exactly according to the video you made.


Take some time and read and you will find the answer to what your looking for.
If you perfer then just use the original rom from your provider.
I'd prefer to use your rom. I love Open Touch! I'm not sure exactly what's going on, because I flashed back to the T-Mo rom then immediately back to OT4 and it seems to be working now.

Edit: I'm going to chalk this one up to "user error". I probably did something that messed it up!

Oh and I found the solution to the "scrollbar in landscape cutting off HTC Home in portrait mode" - LOCK the HTC Home plugin. Locking it makes it permanent in Landscape mode - you can't scroll away from it. When you switch back, the scroll bar doesn't cover it in portrait mode.

Hey - thanks for all the great info and tutorials on this... I installed the biggy with voice commandbiggy 4.0 vc and vsd 2 you posted - it seems to work pretty well.. this is my first and I am just now experiencing what the device can really do... wow... (tmo wing)... anyhow - I have been trying to sync with my laptop and for some reason it goes into non-stop sync... activesync connects, searches for changes (usually it will prompt or tell what changes there are in the various email, files, notes etc...) but then it it just sits in the syncronizing mode... I thought maybe it was just because of all the data to be transferred - so I let it sit there for all last night and it is still trying... I disconnected it from the usb, and standard error message from ms activesync shows up on my laptop -

"MS Active Sync can not recognize this device for one of two reasons
... the device was not connected properly...
...or the device is not a smartphone or pocketpc..."

anyhow - just wondering if I missed something during setup or whatnot...

This seems to include lots of good apps for nearly everyone, and any others that I'd want are easy to find, like MyFaves and others that don't apply universally to every Wing/Herald owner. Any MINOR issues, and that's all there seem to be, like the calculator digits being hard to see, are easily fixed by a .cab or registry tweak. (Yes, I've read the whole thread!)

I also love the blue backgrounds, I usually apply some theme or whatever, but I like this one, it may just stay around more.

I've gotta say this is most definitely the greatest rom I have ever run on my phone, and I haven't run into a single problem that can't be fixed simply and easily. Being UC Compliant was a god send, and made setup a f'ing breeze. Its been a week now and I couldn't be happier.

But I'm kind of sad now. I'm going to be upgrading to a Kaiser soon, and I'm worried that I won't get to use your awesome roms. You don't happen to create roms for it do you? :o

It's been great times, and I'm still considering the possibility of giving my wife the Wing so I can still play with your awesome work! But if not, it's been nothing but pure awesome, and I have to say I GREATLY appreciate all the hard work and dedication you put into these "freebies" as you call them. this is definitely helpful for the Micro users, as there is only one background to choose from, the original green WM one.

why do all of the roms look the same? everything either has to do with the cube for today screen launchers and plugins. Is there another site that has roms? maybe something that looks like OSX?

Hey, great ROM. Just installed it and i'm reconfiguring everything the way I like it..

Just had one issue to ask about. I know on OT 3.0 there was that issue with the comm manager popping up all the time, the fix was to install a different version of the comm manager on the phone, and that kept that problem from happening.

I was wondering if that issue was addressed in this release.. I notice the comm manager looks different than it did in 3.0, but i'm still having the same issue with it popping up all the time after a slide operation.

Anyone else having this problem? Possible fixes other than installing a different comm manager?

Thats actually a fuction of the Quickmmenu program. It can either cache the current today bg or render it "on the fly".

It is cool, though. You can even load a separate image for the start menu bg.

Yeah I would check your data and proxy settings.. also check your logins in OZ and make sure everything is correct. Hope that helps

One thing i've noticed that the Micro version is lacking is a Media player of some sort. All video and music files are not recognized on the device.

This would probably be a good thing to include in the next release. ;)

I all. I just got Wing and its my first WM phone. I need help and I'm asking after I did all the searching possible and got some tips but I was unable to fix the problem Im having. I am not exactly what you would call a noob as I have flashed and moded many phones with Moto, Blackberry, Symbian and Linux Mobile OS's. Ok enough bragging haha.

Anyways I have downloaded the Herald-USPL-Beta3 and the NBH file and followed the exact instructions. The USPL is extracted in C:\, the folder is named "upgrade" and the NBH file is extracted to the RUU folder within the USPL folder. I have fresh install on Tmobile branded SPL higher than 4.0 and have installed the .CAB file found in the USPL and have softreseted the phone.

I have done this like 10 times already and every time I try to flash I get this:

The system cannot find the path specified.

I have also turned the firewall off and hev no antivirus running.

Please help!

I was amazed of how modable this phone seemed but it looks like it going on EBAY and my SIM back in my Blackberry Curve..

Sometimes all you have to do is delete the old partnership that was set up with your phone before the flash. And then connect your newly flashed phone and ActiveSync should detect and sync with it.

If anyone interested in changing their Splash screen, I found one that I like a lot. So I thought I would share it with the rest of you.

First off thank you for taking the time and creating a splash screen.

I'm a very easy going person as most of the people that have been using my roms will tell you.

But I do not like it when people use words like pretty or ugly. Ugly is a very strong word, it tends to hurt peoples feelings.

I did not spend over a month of my personal time creating this rom just to have some one call it ugly.

If you don't like it simply say you dont like it and tell me and the other users why.

Example:

I like your rom, but don't like the splash screen, I think it should look more like this...

It's saying the same thing but in a nice way, think about it...

If you had spent a lot of your personal time making something to be given away for free and some one call it ugly, how would you feel?

If this kind of stuff keeps happening, I will stop cooking roms and might change it from public to private.

Main point:

I always try and use different graphics for each release and choose graphics from different members of this wonderful forum.

Not only did you affend me and my team but you also affended another cook who was kind enough to create the splash screen for me.

If you don't like my roms, please use another rom from another cook or just go back to the original tmobile one.

I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone, but I do stand by my comment. I love your rom, and haven't found a single issue with the vista version. My only complaint was the boot graphics, which should indicate that your work is excellent.

Unfortunately, I do not like the splash screens at all. I could list several reasons why, but it wouldn't really matter. It's just my opinion and shouldn't be taken as a statement of fact. Art is subjective after all, and everyone can't be exactly the same. I only wanted to share the graphic that I am now using with those who had a similar opinion. I had no idea that I would offend another cook, let alone another user on this site.

HTC Home customizer can lock the HTC Home plugin. I figured everybody already used it and knew it could do that =P I'm not sure if it works when HTCHome isn't the top-most plugin.

I also don't know if you can lock other today screen items.

Excellent ROM. I am having the weirdest problem. Everytime I save something to my Storage card, I cannot see the files that were stored. When I check to see the memory capacity of the storage card, based on that, everything should be there. I am unable to see or use the files on the storage card. Any advice would be appreciated.

However I am having one small problem, when I have my bluetooth on my phone will only ring through my bluetooth headset. My friend also has this problem. We both have T-Mobile wings and used the following roms:

We are both experiencing the same problem. My ringtones are mp3s used on my storage card, but even with the stock rings that came with the phone they only ring through my bluetooth headset. When I go into my phone settings and go through selecting ringtones there, they play fine on the phone. I checked the file association for all my ringtones and they are all associated with Windows Media player. I have nothing being forwarded on my phone and all settings are the same as I had on the original T-Mobile Stock Rom.

I have tried searching the forums and used google, but can't seem to find anything relevant for the problems we are experiencing. So far for a temporary fix I am just taking it off my ear and hanging it on my collar so I don't miss any calls. :)

Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks again for a great rom.

On previous ROMs it has been stated that if you uncheck the box for auto updating time zones & clock, it would stop Activesync from randomly & constantly popping up. I can only speak for myself, but I had no idea what the Advanced Configuration (under Accessories) was...until today. That is where you can make even more changes & customizations to this excellent ROM, including disabling that box. If you haven't used the Advanced Configuration tool, check it out.

The radio included with this rom improves your signal giving you more bars in most areas. The wing does not have built in GPS. You can purchase an external bluetooth GPS receiver for around $50.00.

Thank you soooo much nextpimp! I been going through the comm manager, the phone settings, the bluetooth settings, advance config, you name it I searched there. I never would have though to see about the settings in voice command.

For the fix incase anyone else has this problem is as follows with all the credit to nextpimp:

go into Settings, select Personal, then go into Voice Command. Click on the Notification button. Select the option : Announce notifications through device speaker or wired headset only.

Still having problems with activesync after installing new updated biggy vc.... same as the other guy in this thread... I have deleted activesync completely from my pc, disabled all firewalls, reinstalled activesync and tried again - setup a new partnership, only said to sync contacts, calendar, tasks and favorties - yet it still just keeps "syncronizing" and never finishes.

For the scrolling sound effect, you could find that in your "TFsettings" in programs > Startmenu. There is an option where u can enable scrolling sound. Soft reset after enabling this feature.

As far as the Voice Speed dial button goes, if you are talking about the hard button on the side of the phone, you could change the settings for all buttons in settings > Personal > Buttons. This program allows you to allocate different programs to different buttons.

Adding Opera would make the Micro ROM more like a Lite. Opera is a choice of preference. I think anyways.

I prefer Opera 8.65 anyways. If you wanted Opera Mini, you can just install it, just as I am for Opera 8.65.

Yeah...I guess it depends on preference. I've tried 8.65 but prefer mini. It runs better for me. I just like the way he configures Opera Mini with Esmertec Jbed. Maybe TTRAN can post a cab for this? Or will a lite version still be posted? Love the rom so far though!

Nice Rom. You know I had to try the micro. Its got some nice features. Fast. A bit different way to Flash than I was used to. However, without Internet Sharing, I can't use it -- damn. T-Mobile is my only ISP. I can't log onto the Internet without it. I tried David's .cab but I can't get it to work.

In the Dial Pad, when you have the screen in landscape mode with the keyboard out, and you try to type out someones name, the letters aren't mapped out correctly.

when you hit Q you get O; O->W; W->P; P->E; E->L; L->Q.

Therefore, instead of being a QWERTY, its almost like a OPLRTY.

Yes I am having this same problem on an unbranded herald.

From my knowledge that is correct...These are WING versions.... there is a cab from duprade *hope thats spelled right* that addresses the issue

There seems to be a couple of people including me who are having this problem. Active sync will work on my other machines but not on my main. It sits there trying to connect and then throws an error. I didnt have this problem with 3.0 so I dont know.

Yeah that was the plan... but I believe *correct me if im wrong* that smsmode was the cause of some people not being able to open their messages...So if was removed. You may be able to reghack it. Sorry i cant be of more help but i dont sms that much at all.

Hmmm, I tested this on XP and it doesn't work. My network connections show the wing trying to acquire address. I believe it is an XP driver issue. When I was on the wizard, I remember having to hunt down the right drivers to make my internet sharing work. I'll see if I can find the drivers for XP that work with this version.

I restored a few thousand of my old SMSes and the threaded mode just chokes on them :(

Opposite here, With batterystatus, my ROM performed quicker.

How bout some details? what ROM are you using? define unstable? is this problem consistent?

That's unusual - batterystatus is the only today plugin that I use and my Wing is very fast on the micro rom (faster on any 6.1 ROMs). What else are you running?

Yeah, when my Wing is connected I can't access any online features the AS or WMDC data passthrough doesn't work and it did work on OT3.0 "can't connect with the current settings) and with one version of 3 I don't remember which, it didn't work either but would connect via GSM/Edge, now it won't do that either

If you go to Settings/Personal/Today - then go to Items tab, do you see BatteryStatus there?? If so, check the box next to it, and while you are there, click on the Options button and make your selections.

It took me awhile to figureout how to enable the undelete cab option since a lot of folks wanted it included. Now some one else wants to turn it off?

Go to /start/settings/system/Removed programs and it will list the stuff that was installed by auto cabs.

Just in case folks are wondering why I named it micro, it's because you have to install it from your micro sd card.

I'm using a lite version rite now and trying to figureout the dial pad issue noted by other users before releasing any more updates.

If the version you flashed your device with has Advanced Configuration, then you can turn this feature off from there.

I would love to help you but I really don't have the time rite now. If I spend most of my day replying back to FAQ then I would never be able to finish any future updates and releases.

This seems to happen with ever release for some strange reason.

I guess my FAQ section must be really bad since folks are having issues.

I wish I had a video cam so I could record how to perform the actual flashing process.

Well I am F'n frustrated and going back to 3.0.

I cannot use my Destinator 7 map program unless I have my phone is flight mode. This makes no sense and I never had to do this with OT3.0.

Well I flashed back to 3.0 and Destinator 7 is working again. Anyone using or thinking about using Destinator 6+7 be aware that there is a problem with this 4.0 rom, when you load it, it just crashes unless I put it into flight mode.

I don't know what the deal was with Active Sync. I just plugged in to double check that the PC sync is working (I do OTA Exchange sync for most stuff) and it is going a okay today. Go figure.

I am running into a goofy issue today though. I have a Philips Vox 340 Stereo Bluetooth Headset. I have the device paired and set as the handsfree profile and it is the only device I have paired AND it shows the little hands free icon.

When I place a call, I can use it just as I did pre-flash.

However, when a call comes in and I answer it by pressing the answer button on the hands free, I get no audio from the handset or the handsfree.

I'll keep checking settings and making sure it isn't something I did.

Also, thank you for your work on this rom and the replies. I was able to jump into this yesterday w/o too much fuss. My biggest problem was finding a few out of date links in faqs and the use of abbreviations that were a bit confusing. But really, it wasn't that bad.

I dont believe you can... part of the autocabs "script", for lack of a better word, is to set read only attribute to each of the cabs found in your sdconfig. You WANT the cabs to be deleted. If that is possible you'll need to check the UC thread in the development and hacking forum

Don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, but I noticed something with the Micro ROM that could also be included in your other work of arts.

In the text messaging window, where you see all your conversations, the option "mark as read" is no longer available. Usually when you highlight a conversation, you can hit "Menu" and select "Mark As Read" and you wont have that annoying 1 New SMS notification.

But now, this option is no longer available, so the only thing you can do is either open up the msg and close it just to get it to show as read, or catch it when the msg is receive to select "save as read" when the notification bubble appears.

I was trying to change the dialer to a more finger friendly dialer (HTC wouldn't work though the non smartdial etens work), but it just wouldn't take (all buttons came up white) after finally giving in and using this one all day, I've grown to like it. Skinned it with Poorly ducks vista background (by overwriting a few pngs in the windows folder) and I think it might be the most functional dialer. Now that I've had time to play with it, I actually thank you for not going with the standard HTC dialer that every other cooker seems to be using.

Ttran thanks again for the best rom to date. 4.0 is so much better than 3.0 which was so great i thought it would permanently reside on my wing.

Fixed this by installing the MS version at my house, didnt check the version number before hand though.

Is it just me or is the program to change the softbuttons missing? I use iContact but cant seem to find the util i was using in biggy 3 to change the soft buttons.

That is wild. I used the cab that you posted in the OpenTouch 3.0 (?) thread. I have a similar situation as yours in that I use Internet sharing a lot and can't live without it - particularly at work when I need to test access to a server or firewall from "off campus". It worked great on my vista laptop - running Vista business.

I found some other internet sharing cabs posted in other threads but NONE of them worked for XP. As a matter of fact, they hosed my connection altogether. My wing didn't like me changing those files over and over - couldn't connect to anything after trying them, so I had to hard reset and then just flashed a different ROM last night. now I'm back on OT3.0 - zcink version.

nonetheless, here is the cab. I also pulled the necessary files from Ivan's OEM folders and put them in a zip. You could try - copy all 3 files in the zip to your windows root.

If you find a solution - please advise me (I'll do the same for you).

I have the time to do some testing for you today. I have been flashing quite a few in the last couple weeks, and have everything organized for backup and restoring.

Just let me know what/how you want me to test (i.e. - no AutoCabs first, then with my normal additions, etc.) I can test core functionality, BT, Exchange Mail, POP Mail, MMS, etc. If there are specific areas you are looking for, just let me know.

Question.. Did you figure out if the ringtone issue with the micro is WMP dependant?? I figure it need to access an mp3 decoder from somewhere.. What tells the OS what formats are acceptable for ringtone and where the codecs are???

I turned it off since not everybody uses it all the time and thought that it was pretty easy to enable, but I guess I better just enable it by default and have everybody that does not want to use it turn it off.

As far as issues go, I have Open Touch v4.0 Biggy | WM 6.1 | Voice Command | Voice Speed Dial | No Touchflo Cube - Updated fixed MMS/SMS issue and it just seems to me like I'm having the same problems everyone else shows...The "matrix-like" screen when closing out of some programs to the today screen...Battery does seem to die quicker with this version over BIggy 3.0, but I'm not concerned with that, that's why I always carry USB cables and a car charger in my car, plug it into any available port if it's dying on me...I also enjoyed the splash screens, they were pretty cool actually, but I decided to change them anyway since I wanted to be able to show off something I had done myself... :) Nothing against yours, just wanted my own brand!

I missed having the PIM backup on this version, but a very simple search led me to the cab, and its forever on my computer, as well as the site it came from is on my favorites list...OVerall, I'm very happy with this, runs amazingly smoother than 3.0, I might go with the Lite version myself when it's released and good to go, there's a lot of stuff on here that I don't need, but I didn't feel like searching for cabs and getting the micro, haha.

Overall, amazing work! It's so much fun getting into all this and figuring everything out, I might try my hand at this one day, but for now I'm just enjoying learning about it...Thanks much again for all your hard work!

I get to the screen after the splash and it prompts me "Map not found".

That is wild. I used the cab that you posted in the OpenTouch 3.0 (?) thread. I have a similar situation as yours in that I use Internet sharing a lot and can't live without it - particularly at work when I need to test access to a server or firewall from "off campus". It worked great on my vista laptop - running Vista business.

I found some other internet sharing cabs posted in other threads but NONE of them worked for XP. As a matter of fact, they hosed my connection altogether. My wing didn't like me changing those files over and over - couldn't connect to anything after trying them, so I had to hard reset and then just flashed a different ROM last night. now I'm back on OT3.0 - zcink version.

nonetheless, here is the cab. I also pulled the necessary files from Ivan's OEM folders and put them in a zip. You could try - copy all 3 files in the zip to your windows root.

If you find a solution - please advise me (I'll do the same for you).

No it's not, I'm working on fixing some stuff users reported before reuping a newier version.

FYI, when I update stuff I will either add a date to it or a number to the end of it.

As soon as the current beta is finished being tested I will reup a newer version of all roms.

Yeah - I went ahead and reflashed the microROM earlier this afternoon and tried those oem files but no go for me either on XP (my vista did work again though). I'm about to give up on this issue for now since there are so many other great ROMs with IS included.

Great ROM. Speedier than 3.0. I do however like the original background/theme from 3.0 as well as the boot-up 'Open Touch' logo from 3.0
I've noticed that both 3.0 and 4.0 have this thing with WiFi that it takes two tries (somtimes) to turn WiFi ON (especially after a fresh boot-up), not sure what the deal is. And like someone else mentioned, when closing programs, at times one will see some glitch - upper 1/2 of the screen becomes white, but is soonafter restored to normal.
Anyway keep up the great work!

The double tapping of the Wifi is because it is disabled by default to save precious memory space that is wasted if folk don't normally use Wifi (like myself). The good news is that once you enable it once, you only have to tap it once to turn it on & off, at least until you soft reset of power cycle.

um.. did you mean "not" showing up? If so, I had a similar problem on OT 3.0 Battery status would sometimes not show up even if it was checked and enabled for the today screen. However if I went to today screen settings (items tab) and moved the plugin up or down and then selected OK, it would show up on the today screen. After that I could go back to the today settings and move it back where I wanted. Hope that helps.

Nikepete, click the bottom right icon which will X all icons, select one of the duplicates and that one will be deleted. click the bottom right icon again to take the launcher out of delete mode..

ok well i use email alot on my fone, which im sure most of u do. and what i came across was this problem ,where if some 1 emailed me lets say; a bunch of pixs, it would drain the storage memory. u would have to either delete the email or etc..
i was under the assumtion that if u went to messages, option,email u could hit the little button that saved all attachments to sd card.

anyways this what i found.. and this is what i did, and this is where i found it.
im using the 3.0 biggy version with live search, my email is Gmail, which i use through the pop system.

ok here we go


1. i went into the sd card and created a new folder. i named it "Mail".
you should already have a folder called" inbox237463736473sumcrap"
and inside u have a folder named mail attachments.

i opened the folder "inbox37367473sumcrap" and cut the folder "mail attachments" and pasted it into my "Mail" folder..and deleted the inbox7363472

than i went into total commander:


HKLM\System\Inbox\Settings

Add the new Value:

"PropertyPath" value="\Storage Card\Mail" datatype="string

than edit attachpath value \storage card\mail\attachments

eit, soft reset and bang.. when u get email.. it saves it to ur sd card.. i think origin it saved to device/windows/messages/ not 100% sure..

plus i just ordered a javoedge travel kit. and their 11prong mini usb to 3.5 stereo jack.. theirs seemed to be the best queality jack, with out like a loose string or wire type.. its purpose is to be able to use ur phone to play mp3, with a ipod jack thingie, and i also have the wire to hook up to any radio..
so anywhere u can use ur ipod to play music through the 3.5 wire.. now u can with ur phone as well..

if any 1 is interested ill give a review..

Something else weird is going on with my phone, doubt it's the ROM, but maybe someone will know what's going on. Running "Open Touch v4.0 Biggy | WM 6.1 | Voice Command | Voice Speed Dial | No Touchflo Cube - Updated fixed MMS/SMS issue", I have the clock set to show at the top at all times, really comes in handy for me since I lose track of time playing on the Rubiks cube, but I digress from that... When I'm on the Today screen, the clock up in the top menu part always takes at least 20 seconds longer to update to when the time changes vs. the clock on th etoday screen. One time the clock on the title bar was 40 minutes slower, and I had to reset the phone so it would update...Anybody else have this problem? I've ran the time synchro program many times, and it works at first, but then it goes back to doing this. Weird... Also, my battery seems to wear down quicker when I'm running at 247MHz than when I'm running at 286MHz. LOL, isn't it supposed to be the other way around?

just a couple things...

I looked through this thread and a couple others for this information so I did make an attempt... The task manager from HTC overlaps the "X" button all the time, I remember having this issue with Open Touch 3.0, but for the life of me I cannot remember how this was fixed.

I am also having an issue with the Quickmenu continuing to start up with the device even though I disable it. Is there a way to edit the registry to assure this will not start with the device?

BTW TTran, you are the man. You have continued to save thousands of individuals from the boring ROMS forced upon us from our providers. You and your team rock!

EDIT: I looked in the registry and altered the registry entries for the quickmenu, it continues to startup after a reset, and it modifies the registry entries back to what it was before!!!

Okay,

So you device is HARD-SPL.
You have formated your sd card to fat32
Then you copied the HERAIMG.nbh to the root of you sd card.

You performed a softreset and the white screen pops up and it should prompt you to slid the volume button down before the count down ends.

It should start searching the storage card and will run for awhile until its done.

Then it should prompt you to press any key to complete.

At this point you should also perfor
