One way around having wmplayer on the phone: You can download a music converter and convert the MP3s or WMAs to WAV files and then use them. I downloaded AllMusicConverter (http://www.allmusicconverter.com/includes/download_file.php?fn=AllMusicConverter&ftype=app_e) and converted over a hundred items. It's a demo copy so you have to use it right away after downloading it. I have all the ringtones from WM6 and WM6.1 I can upload in a CAB if anyone needs them.
Sure that'd be great!

still no luck flashing new micro> could someone post a how to on youtube?
Hello, I don't have a youtube for you, but since I recently hard-spl'd for the first time thought I share my experience. I will assume that you know what hard-spl is and that you have done that on your phone. If not, you should go back to the first couple of pages and read up here and other linked threads. After I hard-spl'd my phone and I placed the HERAIMG.NBH file on my SD card and followed the process outlined, it didn't work. I had to re-format my SD card (FAT32) which cleared all my back-up info, which I conveniently relocated to my laptop. Once the SD card was re-formatted I moved the .NBH file back over to my SD card and followed the step by step guide linked a couple of pages back. It worked.
I was wondering why it didn't work with my SD card the first time. Not sure if the problem was that there were so many other files ahead of the .NBH file on the card that maybe when I soft reset with the camera button pressed it didn't find the file fast enough and then went straight to boot loader.
At any rate, if you haven't flashed before, you might want to try one of the other versions first. That's how I started...

I flashed my Wing to the Open Touch V4.1 Micro for the first time this morning. Since my Wing was not Hard-SPLed before, I downloaded hard-spl rar and get the cannonyang.nbh. Using the same procedure to change the primary splash screen, I decompose the cannonyang.nbh, then only put the spl.nb to a new yang-spl.nbh. Flashed this spl to my Wing using Herald-USPL, and in half minute my Wing was hard SPLed. I then put the Open Touch Micro image in my SD card and it flashed smoothly without any issue. I attached the yang-spl.nbh in case someone wants to try it.
This rom is super fast compared to the original stock rom. The only problem I have is the NET CF 3.5 in the rom, which is not compatible with SQL CE 2 (required by the pocket e-sword and other software). I have to download the NET CF 2.0 and install it to run pocket e-sword.
TTran, is it possible to drop out NET CF 3.5, or make it an optional package for the Micro version?
Thanks for the great job done!

I thought about that as well. If some one could find me good working cabs for both NetCF 3.5 and 2.0 then I will do so on the next update.

Everything seems great so far, except one thing I've found:
If you bind anything other than <start menu> to the Windows hard key, it loses its binding after soft reset and defaults back to <start menu>. I was mapping SPB Mobile Shell 2's SPB Menu to it, and found that after soft reset, the key went back to default. No key mapping for the Windows key will remain as long as Quick Menu is running. I removed it from startup, soft reset, and now remaps seem to 'stick' fine.
This doesn't affect any of the other hard keys' mapping.
Great work on the ROM!! Enjoying it a lot now that I'm getting it tweaked to my taste.

Theres a quick menu option... something to the effect of "register win key of device" that controls that option. If you want your spb menu to work w/quick menu clear the check mark from quick menu options then map spb.

(I think I accidentally posted this originally in the wrong place, hopefully this is right now)
So this is my first time to flash something, and I feel silly asking, but I'm nervous that I'm going to brick my phone
I'm flashing the ttran's 4.0 Biggy with Touchflo to my Wing and I've been reading through the threads for awhile finally figuring out what an SPL is and where to find it, haha.
I was hoping some of yall could just verify what I'm supposed to do.
1. I back up my files/contacts on my wing to my laptop.
2. Download the 4.0 Biggy / WM 6.1 with Touchflo
And then follow these instructions by ivanmmj
__________________________________________________ ___
Step 1. Download Herald-USPL-Beta3. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=A4N36HLO
Step 2. UnZIP the file into a folder on your Desktop. Let's call it "MyFirstROM" for simplicity's sake. Notice that there is a folder called RUU within this folder now. Keep that in mind.
Step 3. Download your NBH file and unZIP or unRAR it into that RUU folder. Make sure that that NBH file ends up in the RUU folder, not within a folder inside the RUU folder.
Step 4. Place your phone into flightmode.
Step 5. Go back to the MyFirstROM folder and then run USPL.exe
Step 6. Follow the directions on the screen. EXACTLY.
* Your screen on your cell phone will go white around the 75% part of the "second step" now.
* ActiveSync will LOOSE its connection.
Step 7. One step 3 on that black window, the RUU flasher will pop up. Just follow the steps.
________________________________________
After that I do the things/commands ttran lists at the end of his first post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377939 .
And then I'm good to go? Any specific things to watch out for? I don't need to install hard-spl for this right? Sorry for the questions, but any responses/advice would be great!

Yep I think you good to go. But let me add 2 more things: make sure your phone is fully charge and turn off any screen saver on the computer. For the screen saver I feel safer just to be able to watch the progress bar going, but that just me :D

Here are wav files of all the WM6 sounds. For the MICRO ROM users - drop the ones you want in your windows folder and then go to sounds and notifications and they can be seen in the sound choices.
Edit: I had to upload the sounds in 6 different zip files.

Folks,
I'm currently busy working on v5.0 and finishing up all the different version of 4.0.
Please try and help each other on issues as most of them seem to be user error, not saying that all of them are.
I also notice that people are having a hard time flashing my roms, I think I need to spend some time and redo the FAQ since it does not seem to work well.
Here are a few snap shots of the upcoming version 5.0, due in mid May.
Please not that I'm still playing around with the setup shown in the snap shots, also I might replace the htc home with battery status but not sure yet.

Well so a bit later then expected for me I write my little essay on my first flashing:
I was on msn with papamops (thanx to him at this point) and started to prepare my phone.
He explains me everything and after 10 mins I'm ready to go and start the hard spl rom utility. After my device restarts and turns white active sync closes and disappears on my task bar. The romupdateutility says error 260.....shock! I ask papamops is that normal? :D He says ehm no try softreset. So I poke that little stylus in the hole and pray to god (Thanx god at this point :P) my phone starts up normal I guess this happened since the update process didnt start at all...Well at this point I didnt know if I should try it and risk my 350 euro or leave it :P but I'm a brave guy so i reinstall active sync let it just in guest mode and take away the cross in advanced stuff from usb-pc connection.
Start the utility again and this time I pray before...
Again it worx :) At 100 percent my lungs are empty but my device is hard spled :)
10 mins later I had open touch biggy with cube on my device :)
I really love it but the dialer is not my style and the cube doesnt work the way I wanted it to be...
So after one day today I flashed again (this time without any fears ) to biggy without cube. 6 hours later my phone now has its own cube with Ftouchflo s2u2 and some other stuff. And a nice new theme :P Audio manager didnt work so i dled the cab and now works fine. Batterystatus too btw dont know why but the programs wouldnt start so I installed them on my own.
I tried to figure out the whole day how to get youtube videos goin on my herald i got the plugin for tcpmp but it says some kind of protocol is missin is it impossible to get youtube videos goin on the herald or does someone know how to and can point me to the right place? Thanx beforehand
So thanx to papamops for his help and ttran for this beautiful ROM.

Not sure if it's a glitch or by design to save memory, but IE history clears itself every time IE is closed.
If this is intentional, is there a way to change it?

Ive been gettin the same error message with pocket IE, Opera Mini sometimes, and with opera 8.65... It doesnt happen all the time but certain pages give that error message.. (I think its from the device trying to load plugins)..

one of the things that's different is the home screen.. which im sure probably runs slow as mud, with the official winmo 6.1.. ttran if you develop something like that let us know.
I really like the sms threading feature of this rom that im using, cause sometimes you forget what you sent to someone ( after a few drinks )...
The next releases is going to include UL, I want a really friendly user interface. I hoping to make is easy for folks to use with one hand.

hahaha, ttran's ROM can already do all of those things! Microsoft is playing catch-up =)
Ya, I saw that awhile back, looks like some one stole some ideas from xda..lol

ttran, is the version of WM 6.1 the same as what Microsoft just announced? Would it be possible to make a version that has the home screen interface that they are demoing? You can see some screen shots here http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/article.php?a=189&p=242 and there are live demos on Youtube as well.
there is a little bit of difference between the two... Windows version has a few new additions that are definately worth checking out... http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/04/01/velocity-mobile-springs-to-life-announces-pair-of-winmo-6-1-dev/
check out the way it works, very cool... even though ttrans rom is very smooth and fast...

Hi,
Im working on v5.0 and still open for new ideas. I dont have time rite now to try and track stuff down. If some one can get a hold of the actual rom, I could strip it down and take the new apps.
I'm still testing and working on some stuff with the lastest release of wm6.1. Once I'm done I will update the rest of this current release.
Biggy, Lite, and etc
Don't worry I'm not going any where yet...
Just give me some time, Im currently in training and will not be able to work on any rom related stuff until next Monday.
Keep the post coming with new ideas and remember to post all issues in the other thread.
I will respond back as I have time.
Also, I you have donated thank you very much...
Donations are not required to use my roms and will never be required but always helpful.
Regards,

a few things that some folks might need - Windows live ( cant acces hotmail from email set up ), option to change the skins for the calculator, dialpad, and windows media player... different background or color for the cube...
Other than that nothing else needs to be change so far...

On the M$ site I saw the same interface for the 6.1 standard..not pro (read no touchscreen and touchscreen) I don't want a phone that's pretty as(in) a picture and slow as hell, I want it to function smoothly.

You should be able to uninstall Opera Mini through the esmertec jbed. Have you noticed any big differences with the new beta?

Hey Ttran, I was thinking about switching from the BIggy with VC and VS to the new micro, but I noticed that the new micro doesn't come with the Arcsoft MMS, does it have a messaging program built in, or will I need to provide one? If so, where can I get the cab for arcsoft? Thanks again for everything, I've loved your programs for the last two months!

Calculator skin would be HUGE...
other than that great rom...
dont really care for the cube, like spb mobile shell... might try micro or lite version of your rom in the future... waiting for the new build to come out before flashing again...

Follow the instructions for HARD-SPL.
Once completed
Format you sd card fat32
Copy the rom file to the root of your sd card.
Hold the camera button down and do not let go, perform a softreset with your finger on the camera button
A white screen will popup, and will say something about reading from sd.
Wait and it will prompt you to reply, which means you will slide the volume button which is located on the left hand side of the device downwards.
The process will then start, wait until it finishes and it will prompt you to press anything to continue.
Once you press any key, it will bring you to the rainbow screen which is the bootloader menu.
Perform another softreset with your stylist.
Enjoy,

So after a lot of deliberation I found myself with a free evening and decided to flash my Wing for the first time. Everything went great, looks nice, except:
I've somehow busted my internet access!
I have the 5.99 tmobile tzones plan that worked beautifully with the proxy up until now. Suddenly, after flashing this ROM, I can only get POP and IMAP email. I know, it is strange. Wifi works fine for everything, but through EDGE/GPRS I can only get IMAP/POP email (nothing from my exchange server which I think required negotiating on port 80, and no surfing the net at all). This sounds suspiciously like port 80 blockage, but that seems ridiculous, doesn't it?
Any bright ideas? I don't want to have to flash back if I can avoid it...

the proxy hack is definitly whats wrong.....
try this: Start>settings>connections>connections>manage existing connections>proxy settings
if you ran the network setup wizard you should see T-Mobile Data: check box: this network connects to the internet. check box: this network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet.
check them both!
below that in the proxy server field, enter: 216.155.165.50
click advanced button>
tap Http and add> 216.155.165.50:8080
if Socks is not already filled in> tap socks and add> 216.155.165.50:1080
click ok to get back to today screen and soft reset. should be ready to go...

Ok, I bricked my phone good. All I get are two blue boot screens one has the windows flag and says Open Touch and the other says Windows Mobile 6.1 Open Touch edition customized by: ttran... these two screens cycle.
I've tried every trick to get into the bootloader and all I can get to is a blank screen and a solid green notification light.
I have tried holding down the power+camera and soft resetting
I have tried holding down the camera+voice and soft resetting
I have tried holding down the camera and soft resetting
The only thing that gets me to the blank screen and green light is the power+camera and soft reset.
Can someone please help me??? I feel so stupid!

Sounds to me like you have successfully flashed your phone. IMO it takes a little longer to get to the touchscreen setup than stock on a biggy rom. In other words just WAIT... it will soon say touch screen to setup your device. Also, Active sync WILL NOT recognize the bootloader... only the ruu will.

It cycled for over an hour and never went any further... should I have kept waiting?
I thought I had to get an activesync guest partnership in order to flash again? I don't? I'm really not usually this stupid, but apparently I know enough to be dangerous :-)

Ok, I've been successful in restoring the original TMO rom, but now when I try to use the RUU.exe to install any of the roms, including the first biggie rom I tried, I get an error 270 that says the file is corrupt. I know the original file worked... at least enough to get me through the first rom update and brick my phone. Now I can't even get through 2% before I get the corrupt error.
Any ideas how to get around this and get one of these installed on my phone?

Heather - STOP(before you do some real damage)! If you can still reboot the phone and get the cycling screens, take your memory card out and boot again. Then wait awhile and all should be good. Once you boot the first time, you can put the card back in.

Have you tried re-downloading the ROM file again? Does your Activesync still work? If not you could try re-loading that as well. Supposedly if you have a working Activesync, that's all you need to successfully flash....but's it's Windows we're talking about. :)

I was able to successfully flash the rom after doing a hard reset of the phone. I am now completely back up and running and LOVING the new rom... I'm not sure what the "cube" is, but I love the tweaks and I'm only disappointed that I waited nearly a year to attempt to do this... the whole time I've been hating my Wing and missing my MDA... even with the pagepool tweaks and things I had done to it in the past. Now that I know how easy it is to do a flash I won't be so hesitant.
My mother's wondering if there's something similar for the MDA... she's totally jealous :-)

I noticed theres no WMP and Audio Manager in the Micro version. Has anyone been able to successfully install the audio manager? I have installed several versions, however they all have the problem in which they scroll through the titles very quickly and infinately never playing any of the music at all. My theory is that it does not play the files because it somehow shares the playing capabilities with WMP, however since wmp is not installed either, does anyone ahve a cab file for it? I've searched all over the forum to no avail.

Thanks
Try the cab for Audio Manager on this page.

I have it working. The Micro 4.1 is meant to flash off a SD card. Not activesync way.

Have a couple beers on us!

EDIT: I mean, he still wants to use the 4.0 biggy with VC/VS, but he decided to put his phone in his back pocket and sat on it and the button went straight through the screen...Good thing he had it insured, I'm sure I'll have to reinstall everything for him when the new one comes in...

From what I remember, you just install the three cab files in the correct order.
Then run the ROMUPdateUtility.exe it will flash your device with canonyang.nbh which is what they are refering to as the RUU.
Here are the notes from papa:
1. install canonyang.cab
2. install aserpolicy.cab
3- install disablesecurity.cab
4. SOFTRESET
5. run RUU from Hard-SPLWM6 folder verison 4.70.yang - ROMUpdateUtility.exe
6. screen will become white - WAIT until it reboots itselfe.
7. done!
After I install the cabs in the order listed. Before I run romupdateutility.exe, should I put my phone in bootloader mode? Or does it not make a difference?
Sorry for the dumb questions. (my first rom flashing)

Check the Battery Status options and see if the CPU Scaler is checked. It speeds up and slows down the CPU based on need.....and prolongs battery life.

another gripe is the calculator skin on the rom, but i downloaded 1calc and use that....

What you need to do is install WMStorage.cab and format the Sd card to FAT32 using WMStorage. For some reason my memory card reader on my laptop would never format it correctly.

the new update looks great, except i would rather have the missed call messages etc on the home screen
any way you can incorporate ftouchsl and/ or the new cube made by slither[sclpc++] it looks way better than the original cube as well the sftouchl is more smoother its as if they upgraded the scrolling as it seems much easier to scroll now
would be great but not really necessary
several dial skins, keyboard skins contact skins such as icontact or vito fun contacts
touchpal keyboard looked lik a great skin but i wasnt able to use it on the biggy rom

Just put this on my phone, and love it. Great job ttran.
I have a question though. I accidentally started the "glossy black bars" program while messing with things, and decided to switch back so I went to my today settings and set it back to the default theme. The problem is that any time I reset my phone the black bars reappear and I need to change themes again. Is there any way to turn them off until I want them back on again?
Also, in case ttran reads these posts....I like the today screen in this rom alot, but the one that you have set as your avatar really intrigues me. Is that something that's available for download or use anywhere on here, or part of one of your roms, or anything like that?

Thanks for the help,The latest version is in the first two post of this thread. Any update or a new version will be posted again in the first post or in a new thread.
All the pictures you saw about a newer ROM are WIP pictures and not release yet

The Wing (which this ROM was made for) and the Herald do have different key mappings. There is a fix posted on the forum, I don't have a link, but it was easy enough to find last time I searched. BTW, there's a separate thread for posting problems/issues with this ROM.

I remembered Tran said that the micro have to be flash using the sd because of the size limitation.
Did you format your sd card as FAT32? Did you save the file at the root of your sd card? I flashed the micro 3 times on 2 Wigns without any problem so far.

Try this,
Reformat your sd card from your laptop but do no use the "quick format" option. I encounter that problem when I first flashing the micro but I reformat the sd and uncheck the "quick format" option. Also I use the usb adapter when connect the sd to my computer.

I'm about to download "Open Touch Biggy Vista 2.rar" and flash it on my Wing.. Since this 4.0 release has there been any files released to fix any bugs the ROM might have? I tried to go through the entire thread to find this out, but there are over 100 pages and I got lost somewhere along the way..
Thanks for the help,

I had the same problem, how big is the SD? Seems there is issues with SDs over 2 gig.
Try this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=267475) link out, it's how to format the SD card. I just happened to have a 1gig SD laying around and flashed from there.
Hope this helps.

If you guys haven't fixed it yet, you need to go into the \Windows\Startup folder and delete glossy black bars.
When you run it, it automatically sets itself to start on boot.

So I havent really been Keeping up with this thread but I am super curious. What is the wm7 theme that ttran has on his top left icon? Is this theme included in a rom that he currently has released or is it something of his he hasnt released? I really like the theme and style with the clock and icons, seems very user friendly.

Folks,
The first page has been updated with the PoinUI Lite version.
Why cook it into the rom when you can install the cab?
Why not, it runs faster and it will auto start instead of you having to create short cuts and etc.
This version has the same build as the mirco so you know it will be fast and stable.
I'm working on porting the next latest version but have not had any free time yet.
Getting over my sickness so please hang in there with me.
Let me know what you think, since I'm currently running the same version but with the touchflo cube.

Comments: Really good job ttran, it scared me when the point UI screen came
up and i touched it and it dispersed lol.
pros: loving the new splash screen (very creative ;))
Point UI very useful and looks good! good job!
Great organization and much better home screen
Youtube Player is the SHIT!!
Its nice because its like the iphone of microsoft
cons: Missing some programs
-battery status
Also how do i get sound from the you tube player? i can't seem to find the setting and i turned my volume all
the way up too ..
question: for the weather option it seems pretty accurate for where i am, but i \do not have the
edge as i operate through wifi, is this feature just a set screen shot or is it really connected? when i check
my comm manager it doesn't show that my data connection is on. Also the splash screen says v5.0, but is
it suppose to be 4.5?

Hi,
Battery drain is mainly due to the raido and not the rom.
I've also updated the radio so your issues should be resolved.
If not please let me know since I've also posted the radio from my v3.0 rom on the first page.

Hi,
worse case just softreset and it will start the alignment process again.
Then simply click on the screen and the pointui screen should go away and the screen alignment should start.

ok, I've read the first posts a hundred times now and I'm only getting more confused. I know I need to understand this before making the flash to the new ROM so let me ask a question or two before attempting.
I want to flash the OT 4.0 Biggy w/Cube ROM. But when reading, it says I should flash the HERALD-USPL-beta3. Do I flash the HERALD-USPL-beta3 then how do I get the OT 4.0 biggy on there? What am I missing here? I always thought I was pretty good with understanding computers... guess not.

First you have to flash Herald-USPL-beta3. The reason for this is because it will allow you to load home cooked ROM's and not "brick" your phone.
Then flash OT 4.0 or whatever ROM you want. You only have to flash the USPL once after that you can flash as many ROMs and times as you want. It is pretty straight forward after the first time.

unzip it to your computer... inside you should see an exe in a folder with a nbh file... The nbh is the actual rom itself... the exe (usually ROM or something similar) is the program that helps flash the device. If you ever get stuck do a softreset while holding the camera button and that will take you to the bootloader and then you can try running the ROM.exe

Enjoy,
I have tried to do this step, i put the file on the root directory of the micro sd card, i hold the camera button, it says "looking for SD card" but then it gotes into boot loader mode (rainbow screen) and will not do anything else. i do not let go of the camera button at all. Please help. (trying to do mirco version)
