I'm taking a break for a few weeks, some personal issues I have to take care of. Please help each other until then.

Read everything in this section before downloading the roms and flashing.

If you don't understand it, read it again and again until you understand.

Once your doned flashing your device double check back here again to configure your device.

FAQ:

Back up your phone before downloading and flashing this rom... I do not want anybody to loose their data due to flashing this rom, as the rom will erase all of your data...

HERALD-USPL-beta3[/COLOR]

Download and extract both files.
Place the extracted Open Touch v2.5 Biggy.nbh into the Herald-uspl-beta3/RUU folder.
Move the entire Herald-uspl-beta3 folder to the root of the c:\.
Follow the simple readme file.

II. How do I flash an NBH file?

a. USPL

Step 1. Download Herald-USPL-Beta3. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=A4N36HLO

Step 2. UnZIP the file into a folder on your Desktop. Let's call it "MyFirstROM" for simplicity's sake. Notice that there is a folder called RUU within this folder now. Keep that in mind.

Step 3. Download your NBH file and unZIP or unRAR it into that RUU folder. Make sure that that NBH file ends up in the RUU folder, not within a folder inside the RUU folder.

Step 4. Place your phone into flightmode.

Step 5. Go back to the MyFirstROM folder and then run USPL.exe

Step 6. Follow the directions on the screen. EXACTLY.

* Your screen on your cell phone will go white around the 75% part of the "second step" now.
* ActiveSync will LOOSE its connection.

Step 7. One step 3 on that black window, the RUU flasher will pop up. Just follow the steps.

That's it. :-) Welcome to the flasher's world.

Disable Random Access and Enable Scrolling

With random access you must do the following to enable contact scrolling.

Click on the contacts button at the lower right hand side of the screen.
Click on the Menu button
Click on Options
Uncheck "Show alphabetical index
Click on the ok button to exit

Now I know the following will sound strange but it will enable scrolling in the contact menu.

Repeat the following steps again, and the random acess bar on the right handside will go away and scrolling will work again.

Click on the Menu button
Click on Options
Uncheck "Show alphabetical index
Click on the ok button to exit

If you want to enable random access, just go back and uncheck the "Show alphabetical index"

How to turn off QuickMenu

/Start/QuickMenu/Exit

It will prompt you with "Exit QuickMenu?

Choose yes and it will not startup again even after a reboot.

Things to do after flashing your device:

Network Wizard

Go to \Start\Settings\Connections\Network Wizard

Choose your location and provider, do not reset the device when prompted.

Connections

Go to \Start\Settings\Connections\Connections

Once completed save and exit

Touchflo

Go to \Start\Programs\TouchFlo

Click on the TFSettings

Choose your view mode from the drop down menu and if you want sound while scrolling then check the Enable sound, if not don't worry about it.

Click ok to save, do not reset your device.

Go to \Start\Programs\TouchFlo

Click on Touchsettings

This part has already been filled out for you, just click on the save button to exit.

This step is needed so please perform it...

Now your ready to reset your device.

MMS/SMS Setup

Send Large MMS:
Registry: HKLM\Software\Arcsoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\UI\Size Limit
Key: wap2sendlimit1 (you can also change wap1sendlimit1)
Default: 307200
New Value: 1228800 (1200K)

Registry: HKLM\Software\Arcsoft\ArcSoft MMS UA\Config\UI\Size Limit
Key: sendlimit3 which will be set to the default of 300k. u gotta change it to 1228800 and than the 1200k will appear.
note u can also change sendlimit 2, 1 to be the same as what ever u decide to change wap * sendlimt* to be. once u do this the 1200k will appear.

++++in between doing the above and below, u have to go to

Set the new value by going to Text/Multimedia --> Menu --> New --> MMS --> Menu --> Options --> MMS Options --> Servers --> T-mobile MMS

A lot of people asked for the splash screen and radio from v3.0, so here it is...

You need to flash it the same way you would with any rom, it will only update the splash screen and radio and not the actual rom/OS.

Go to start, settings, systems and tab clear storage. Be sure you backup all your files on your storage card or you pc.

Also, it seems more buggy so far. QuickMenu disappeared after 2nd reboot, for example.

Time has to be set during installation now. That was't in v3.0. Not sure if this was done intentionally, but obviously the more unattended the installation, the more convenient.

The AutoCabs thing is... strange. I don't really get what it's supposed to do. It just shows a loading screen and then reboots.


I don't mean these as complaints or anything. You just asked for any qualms that could be fixed easily. This is all I noticed so far. I appreciate your work tremendously and I don't want to give you the impression that I think otherwise. I'm definitely digging the blue in this new version. Thanks a bunch! :)

also when selecting mms from the drop down menu it goes to voicemail recording...minor problem, just trying to report things that I find :)

The QuickMenu issue was strange but it seems to be working now. It wasn't showing up, so I rebooted. Still wasn't there. I opened it up manually and went to its options and disabled it from starting up with the ppc, and disabled all of the "replace start..." menu/button/etc options. Then I exited it and selected yes. I rebooted, and started it manually again. Rechecked those options. And it has worked since.


Under SMS/MMS, if I go to New->MMS, it doesn't work properly. It opens the "New Voicemail" screen rather than the "New MMS" screen. Also, as others have mentioned, if threaded messaging is enabled, SMS and MMS do not work properly. I'm not sure if Voicemail works, as I've never used it before and I'm not too sure what it is exactly.


So again, the SMS freezing complaints here only occur when SMS mode is set to threaded.

No one is complaining, we are doing what a a forum does best, help, test and give feedback. its called "constructive criticism". Don't play the "selfish card", everyone here appreciates t-man's work. Everyone made it loud and clear not to be selfish anymore and i'm pretty sure we all got the picture. We would like to hear your opinion as well.

Something not right about the startup. Quickmenu wont remain as the start menu, i tired dumpydooby's "fix" but still wont fix anything for me. I also dbl checked to see if Quickmenu was in the "Startup" folder, and it was. Seems like the ROM isn't running the startup folder properly.

Batterystatus doesn't like to remain on the today screen after Soft reseting. I have to constantly go to settings>today>items and enable BS.

However, the ROM is REALLLY fast!! fastest one so far. Im not sure if what BS is telling me is right or not, but it's showing 27.4MBs of free ram!!! :eek:

conclusion, GREAT ROM!! small fixes are required.

I have no TouchFlo Settings and didnt see anything in the Windows directory.

The AutoCabs thing is... strange. I don't really get what it's supposed to do. It just shows a loading screen and then reboots.


This being my first ROM installation I was pretty sure I understood the directions. After the RUU started I had to leave the room for a while. After about 15 minutes, it was at the two blue boot screens over and over. I thought for sure something had gone wrong. I couldn't stop it, I couldn't get buttons to respond, so I took the battery out.

Once back in, it did the same. I started looking for some way to get it going again, and I think I found one. I was putting the original ROM on an SD card when the alignment screen came up.

I guess that series of screens is the auto cab installation. So before anyone else panics, that is normal, and lasts for 20 to 30 minutes. -ttran, is it possible to use a screen that says it is autoloading cabs?

In the end, I reflashed with 3.0, to try out touchflo and cube, plus I use SMS a lot, so I need to wait for some fixes on that end.

I like others don't see the Touch Flow settings anywhere.

I like the look of the dialer. Quickmenu working normally through many reboots.

No other issues other then stated SMS so far.

Everything is good for me. The only thing that bothers me is the Wifi connection. If you go to comm manager and then tap settings, Wireless lan it usually shows the Connections. Now you need to press menu and than Wifi.
In your Open Touch V3.0 you didnt needed to do this.

You can use romsettings to change which features show up in commanager.

Voice command - I forgot to mention that I removed it from startup.

To activate it you must press and hold the 5th button twice and it should kick in.

I'm going to double check a few things with mms/sms and will upload an updated version in a few hours.

Plus the next upload will be vista style, I want to see what people think about it.

SMS Mode, there is a new feature called sms mode, it's in the /start/programs/accessories section.

You can choose either normal or thread.

Autocabs did not run after you flashed the rom. What ran was some customization files and cabs I added to help fix the MMS/SMS size issue, and etc.

This is what I do when I use the autocabs feature.

Example of SDConfig.txt file:

CAB: \Storage Card\Cabs\Vibra.cab

I have the same issue. Also, the weather plug in will not connect, althougth it lets me select a city. Just surface issues as i am on my way out to an appt, it looks awesome though. Hope we can get it fixed! I love the texting threading from 3.0, will it have the same functionality on 4.0 once it is fixed?

Ummm.... how about a nicely working Open Touch V3.0 installation configured (after many hours of messing around) just how I like it ;). So I'd be interested in knowing the main differences too please.

Also, for anyone who has an SD Card, would you mind checking to see if the "Cache to storage Card" option works in Live Search in this release please.

If you want my opinion, It's a master piece in the making. Great performance, better then V3.0, but needs some messing around with at the moment. I would say this is Beta testing...

Hold the Power & Camera buttons while push soft reset. I did the same to get in the boot loader but ran into utility error. Flashing the original ROM now.

Only way I can think of would be using a card reader. If you dont have one and you cant use Active Sync then im out of options.

You should be able to flash the device without activesync, just place the phone into bootloader mode.

If you are in bootloader, you should be able to just run the Herald update from your pc...it should install.

I assuming your phone is stuck in bootloader mode ( bricked) and you want to re flash it, restart your computer then open activesync click file then connection settings when the connection settings opens uncheck the allow usb connections now connect your phone and flash it with the stock rom, when done don't forget to go back and check the allow usb connections in activesync, then flash whatever rom you want. hope that helps.

Yes,

If your device is HARD-SPL then just use my rom, if not then go back to my eailer post where I have the link to the original rom. Just download the file and place your phone into bootloader mode which is the rainbow looking screen and you will be able to reflash the device.

Well found something!!! IExplorer will not download any files. I can access the internet to download ringtones but the actual ringtones do not download. i have tryed several other websites that I have used before on 3.1 and it dont work on 4.0 vista 2.

Went back to 3.1 to see if it was 4.0 or the 6 websites that i wanted to download from. It was 4.0 they work flawless on 3.1.

Sweet Vista theme. No problems with SMS/MMS. Started with 32+M storage and 26+M program. I use a corporate e-mail software called Good Mobile Messaging. It tends to be a program memory hog. On this version it looks like it doesn't run down the program memory as much (in short time running). I did surf to YouTube mobile to see if I could run a video directly to TCPMP similar to V3. It didn't work for me.

Very nice piece of work ttran. Thanks for your hard work. Time for me to pony up $$s.

Softkeys is not in the biggy version 2 that I have seen. I used PHM quickly to change these.

Create 113 if it does not exist
113 is right and 112 is left
The easiest way to change right softkey after creating new 113...
copy both keys from 112 and paste them into 113
the first can be changed to display the name that will be displayed on the today screen
the second simply points to the executable you wish to open
(ex. /Storage Card/Program Files/iContact.exe)-this opens my iContact.exe by sweet Larna

Testing the new ROM tonight and playing around with it. I noticed that Flashvideobundle.cab was not incorporated. This was a nice feature cooked in Open Touch 3, and I enjoyed not having to set it up on my own. Everything looks beautiful and I love that you took the extra time to add the background art to the Quickmenu instead of its usual white. I had usaully just created another wallpaper to get around that. Another idea for users' ease might be to have the touchflo-video-link automatically linked to TCPMP instead of WMP (although it's an easy user re-route). Above I had mentioned Larna's new updated iContact.exe. This is the best contact program I've seen for our HTC's, may be another cook idea with Larna's approval (a self-developed program in your self-developed ROM). Also, thanks for the reminder list on page 1; that'll certainly help limit the extra questions within this thread.

I've found heaven here - just spent 3 hours reading posts all over this site and in this forum - I have a wing that I was about to stomp on... very frustrated with t-mobile lately... the only ap I ever installed on it before was Battery Status - which really helped me a lot... especialy knowing when to soft reset to regain lost memory and to manage my running applications... you guys have all opened my eyes to a whole new world - THANKS - but now I am trying to digest everything I have read so far...

So - anyone care to point me to a thread or post here where I can figure out step by step for dummies how to modify the installed tmobile rom - including how to backup properly... Do we have to use usb? What about mobile outlook software keys? - anyhow, sorry about being so new - but I hope someone will enlighten me...

First off, pick any rom in this herald forum that says it's for the wing and flash it - anything is better than that stock piece-of-crap tmo rom. Myself, I am exclusively an Open Touch'er - always have been and prolly will be untill I decide to cook a rom myself.

Beyond that, hit up the herald wiki and find one of the cab pages to find just about anything you could ever want to help customize. Basically just keep doing what you're doing - read, reread, search, read, search some more, ask nicely, and read again. Most importantly, unless you're trying to hardspl your phone, the wing is virtually impossible to permanently brick.

So far...So good.
The Version 2 Vista Style is awesome. Love the look and it's very fast for me. O'Clocked to 247 and all appears stable.
Done plenty of SMSing without problems.
Internet Explorer works fine for me. I can surf and download files without any problems.

I occasionaly use Windows Messenger but it appears that it's not in this version. I thought it was part of the Microsoft Live Search stuff, which is included. Does anyone have the CAB for this? or can it be included in the next build?

Ha! I totally missed that you had released this. I had Herald Mobile 6 bookmarked and I kept wondering, damn, where is everyone at?

Well, since I somehow managed to fill up my storage memory (despite uninstalling all my programs, I still only had 5mb free), I decided to flash to OT4 biggy.

Man this rom boots up fast.

I do miss the black swirl "Open Touch" boot screen, though.

I'm also having some weirdness with the TouchFlo. If I enable the cube and scrolling, all is fine. If I disable scrolling and soft reset, I find that the Cube has been disabled.... and scrolling is re-enabled! Completely opposite of what I want (I like the cube, don't like the scrolling). This was happening in OT3 biggy, so maybe it's something specific to my device.

One thing I wouldn't mind seeing go away is glossy black bars. They're not very glossy, and infact don't really look nice at all. Just IMO, of course.

I used to be a big fan of the cube in the beginning when I first started flashing. After a while I realized that I used it more for showing off then actual use. It would lag sometimes and I really couldn't customize it how I wanted. If you really want functionality and good looks check out the new SPB Mobile Shell 2.0. You will not be disappointed. Its better then anything I've tried. Just throwing it out there for the cube lovers.

Here's the Windows Live Cab. I install this every time I flash a ROM that doesn't have Windows Live.

EDIT: ok for some reason it wont let me upload the CAB, ill try again tonight.

EDIT #2: I'm not sure what's going on, but it wont let me upload the cab. The file is under the size limit and I tried using 3 different internet browsers but no go. Please just PM me if you need the Windows Live Cab, I'll send via email.
