Beta: WM 6.1 by bepe, Build 0.65 [WWE|GER|FRA|ITA|ESN]

General information:

Base for OEM part: Polaris CHT_1.52.751.2
Base for SYS part: Kaiser WWE_3.08.161.0
CE OS 5.2.19199 (Build 19199.1.0.0)
So it contains the latest drivers with the latest OS build. The only original OS is WWE.
That means GER|FRA|ITA|ESN are mixed builds, but no problems related to resource differences so far.
Kernel is running in full kernel mode with disabled certificate check
This makes the OS faster and you don't need to worry about signing stuff when you want to customize the rom to your needs.
The patched Kernel is especially useful for advanced users, because it makes it easy to overwrite system files with customized ones.
e.g. for a new key board skin or replacing drivers, just copy the files to the windows folder.
Removed Update Loader partition
It is not used at all and we get more storage.

I am unable to get Calligrapher working on the full 0.60 or 0.61 versions. It installs ok, but when you select it as an input method you receive this message:

Unable to load CalliGrapher. Please soft-reset your device and try again. If the problem persists, reinstall CalliGrapher.

Taking those steps yields the same result. CalliGrapher worked on all previous builds up to and including 0.58.

Flashed it to my Cruise and again it works great. Touchflo also. I flashed my Cruise also to 0.60 this morning and 4 hours later :P the 0.61 version came out so i flashed it again :D..

I tried version 0.61 notomtom and noOpera and found that the cube is not there, touchflo setting is not there, and TomTom is there....Anyone else?

Missing cube is not an issue, rather good because it is useless, for me.

Is there any rom it is working on? ... just asking because I don't use my device for that.
For the case that there is a working rom, I might be able to fix that, but otherwise it might be a drivers problem.
The only roms I tried were my original french rom 1.25.406.1 and your roms translated in french, and all had the problem of volume.

Apparently the problem occurs with french language.

One of the solutions was:

The "409" key (instead of "4000") corresponds to the column named "codecRxGain"...

Looks like this could be the origin of the low volume during mp3 playing.

Now, looking in the registry there is a key pointing to the incriminated file:
\HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev
where the key AcousticFile points to \Windows\AudioPara4-HTC-France_V1.csv

If I change it to a modified AudioPara4-HTC-France_V2.csv I've put in \Windows (with the restored "4000" value), after a soft reset...

WAAA!!! That one is really bad... I've automated my Kitchen to create all this roms, so it was only one spelling mistake in one of the bat files to create the rar's... everything else was copy past.

The IP phone stuff is not in the rom, but I've left the option in there for the case that someone installs it.

Great idea, IP Phone is very useful, I think it could be great that you include the IP Phone stuff one day in your rom :-)

1) Where did this keyboard come from, what device? It works qute well.

2) Do you happen to know if it's possible to change the keyboard skin for this new touch keyboard? (I know you can do it with the normal keyboard, is it possible with the touch one? I would like to try)

3) I have turned off large title bar and large menu, but menus systems in applications are still really big. I originally didn't like it because for long menus i had to scoll extra, but it's actually not to bad for the thumb. Did you mean to put this in, or is this an HTC thing?

4) Where did the animated splash screen come from? Just curious. Someone make it, or is it official?

you will find ql_skin_p.xml and ql_skin_l.xml inside the Windows folder, by editing them you can add new buttons.
... but you need two bmp files for one button (image and mask), to make it look good is not that easy.

1) I do not have any problems with that... did you try to reflash the rom or to remove the SD card?
2) The problem is that the Cube and the persons tab are not meant to be used at the same time, thats why I had to do some patch to enable the persons tab even with cube in the rom. By default it is not possible to enable the persons tab when there is the Quick dial in a rom.
3) I can pair the device with my headset with no problems.... can you describe what exactly is causing problems?

Still, when activating voicecommand via bluetooth headset, the dialpad comes up by itself.
This is not really needed for every command. Could you please turn that off?

Loving the new keyboard skin.

One problem that is really buggin me is after adding a custom word the last keyboard deleted the incorrect word you had entered this one doesnt.

Also it doesnt auto put a space after your inserted word.

i'm one of the users struggeling with volume on orbit2 too... having your german rom. but it's not a buggy rom, it seems a buggy driver or in general a limitation to orbit2 being not too loud! the registry-fix applied to the french rom shouldn't fix the problem on bepes rom, simply because there is no limitating registry-key or audiopara.csv...
i'm using the pre-amplifier-function of coreplayer to get a bit more out of orbit (especially when using in the car as mp3-player), but it ends in strange clipping very fast, when getting over +10... :(
so i would be happy too, if this annoying bug of orbit2 could be fixed with customized roms - maybe by using a driver from working (louder) devices using same soundcontroller??? hope this helps a bit? ;)

I installed the Spanish version of your ROM (Polaris_ESN_0.62_Full) and the speed of my machine has increased considerably.

Only a couple of details that I have noticed.

1. The implementation of video call is not translated. Many menus are still displayed in English.

2. The Windows Live (Messenger) has disappeared. It is a mistake or what you have done on purpose.

I'd love to use your Rom but I can't get my SSLed exchange connection to work and its a must for me.
It works perfectly well on original ROM so maybe it has to do with the WM 6.1 certificates ?
Would it be possible to copy over the original WM6.0 certificates to yours?
I have looked around but could not find anything to help.
I read that non SSL connections to exchange work so most people are happy but I am sure that a few like me need SSL.

I'm not changing this things, because I would like to know what exactly a rom that I flash to my device is based on.
... same as faking the OS build, that is fooling the users and makes it impossible to compare the roms.

Anyway, I've just got my hands on a new CHT Polaris rom, so I'm uploading 0.63 with new Kernel and new drivers right now. ROM Date 02/12/08, 1.52.xxx.x and that is for real :D

Biotouch.exe translates all finger swipes into actions, the Cube actions and the scroll actions too. Thus it's not directly related to the Cube, the Cube is just a part of the whole TouchFLO concept.

Bepe said all the ROMs other than WWE are mixed-language. He will take care of everything not yet translated at a later stage. Stop asking for translations.

Sometimes when I open my Contacts I don´t get the right ABCDE.. Side bar displayed.

I need to close the Contact via Taskmanager and open it again. Than everything is back to normal.

Try typing "opera:config" in the address bar in Opera, it will give you hundreds of options. I'm not sure if you can change the actual user agent, but there's a lot of other useful stuff. For example I changed the cache directory to a folder on my memory card.

About the new build, main improvement is the new Polaris base rom.
There are many changes to the drivers and the kernel, but it is not possible to tell what exactly the changes are for, so we need to try if it really is better.
RIL driver had many changes, I think it was for AGPS, but also possible that it will work better with the new radios now.

Hi all!

I'm fairly new to all this, the Cruise is my first Windows Mobile and I'm about to make the plunge into the world of custom ROM's :-D

I have been following the original thread and this thread religiously and I only have one question. Someone posted not long ago that there was a problem with the sound volume when using bluetooth headphones. I have seen others mention the same problem but no one has confirmed that it has been fixed.
Since I spend half my day listening to music on my Cruise, this is very important to me.
(BTW I can STRONGLY recommend the Sony Ericsson HBH-DS980 stereo bluetooth headset for listening to music on the Cruise, the sound is amazing!! way better than when I had it paired with my SE W850i!)

Sometimes when I open my Contacts I don´t get the right ABCDE.. Side bar displayed.
This is a known problem with (the ABCD's name actually is) RandomAccess. Must be some kind of programmer error or just the hook isnt working all the time. But as you said, closing and restarting contacts usually brings it up. There is no known immediate and durable fix for that.

Strip that out, leave flight mode in, there you go. Data connection button: there's 3 ways to stop a connection, you dont forcibly need the CM-button. Replace it, another one gone... BT and WLAN is a must, but if you dont use Push-E-Mail, strip that one out too or replace it...

The "Touch Calculator" is actually an SPB Softwarehouse product. I'm not too sure if their license allows the calculator to be bundled with a ROM. I'd check on that before giving it a go.

Damit bepe, I just finished my .62 flash, all apps and now .63 is out... It was kind of a troublefree time on .58 which held almost 2 weeks... :D

I'll not add the 10 buttons CM, bc it is not possible (or not that easy) to adjust the order of the items. On my former Tinity roms I had an option do enable it, but it was not possible to choose the items... and I did not like it, so you have to install it yourself... sorry

No problem, good to hear you'll eventually get on that! I really like the stuff you produce. The .62 seemed a little slow at the beginning but after a days time of usage the (I call them) initial background processes seemed to be finished and my unit got a lot more responsive and feels smoother now.

With your actual versions (I tried many of your french versions), the maximum volume is very low when listening MP3, with headphones or speaker.

Is a pity because I listen to a lot of music on my Polaris !!! :(

AlarmToday hangs everytime with versions 0.61-0.63. It does not hang in version .53 and .58. When alarmtoday runs at the set time and if I hit Stop on alarmtoday screen it should terminate WMP and stops. Anyone see this problem on .61-0.63?

Ok, after a night of testing I found the following issues:

The new "Verbindungs-Setup" (Connection Wizard?) creates connection settings for my provider which are outdated since years. Especially the MMS-Configuration (not the connection, but the Arcsoft Client Setup) is totally screwed up: wrong port, wrong max. size, wrong protocol. The previous version (in .58 Ger) of the wizard worked just fine.
My device info gets overwritten whenever I connect to WMDC. I named my device Polaris which was fine for .52 to .58, in .63 it gets renamed to "WINDOWSMOBILExx" where xx is a random number upon connection. Something similar happened, when I still was on the original German o2 ROM, it just got renamed to "orbxx" I think back then.
Issues with the full-qwertz keyboard: I created a picture mms out of the "Kameraalbum" (HTC Album), the keyboard popped up being on the symbol page, but showing empty keys and on the bottom page selector showing page -4/4. Once I clicked the selector again, it went to page -3/4, still empty, then -2/4 etc to 0/4, then to page 1/4 filling the keys with symbols again. Once I went to the ABC layout the keyboard was totally screwed up, the switcher key for the symbol pad was on the z-key and actually switched to the symbol pad once pressed. See screenshots.
Internet Explorer forgets it's history once closed. As long as you leave it open and running, the history persists.I just flashed .60 NoTom Ger and I have to say, it's a lot more responsive right from the start. do your really notice a speed difference between WWE and the German 0.63 Full Version? or have you teste it somehow? If So I´ll switch to the English version.

Yet another question regarding the Radio Rom. I´ve found out that a lot of the senior members have downgraded to the original Radio rom. Is there any evidance that it might harm the TC? Mine currently works perfactly using Wlan & Bluetooth all the time.

It's just my impression but for me, definitely yes, the WWE build feels alot more responsive than the German one. I remember, at some point during the setup, using the Ger build, I was going crazy waiting for checkboxes to be (de)selected. I never had a single lag in the WWE until now.

I don't know about the Radio. I suffered connection problems myself while I had it flashed and alot of people complaining about BT problems or even broken BT hardware were/are using the test Radio. Downgrading usually solved the problem unless the hardware became defective. It could be coincidence that quite some BT units broke using the test Radio, I just don't see any advantage in using the new Radio and I don't trust it.

Just got my first problem with the 0.63 build:

Flashed last night and installed everything. ROM was OK. This morning, when my alarm went off, I stopped it (using left softkey) and then both my soft keys dissapeared. Start menu was still responsive but no matter what I did, whenever I got back to my Today screen the bottom bar was empty (no softkeys)

SR fixed the problem and I have not been able to re-produce. Will monitor.

andilein 20 key QWERTZ (2 letters per key) or the full QWERTZ keyboard? bepe added the SupportMSSIP reg tweak which disables xT9 for non-HTC keyboards, thats why it doesnt work for the standard microsoft keyboard. You can enable it for non-HTC keyboards setting HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9\XT9SupportMSSip to 1.
As for the general xT9 functionality, did you accidentially deactivate xT9 with the ROM Settings tool?

sbc302 The procedure is quite simple: connect the Polaris, be it already in bootloader mode or fully booted in Windows Mobile. Once fully connected, execute the ROM.EXE and the update process should automatically start. A progressbar will simultaneously fill up to a 100% on the PC and the Polaris. It'll notify you once it's complete.

I didnt want to use my systembackup because I was switching languages with the ROMs. I know Sprite Backup has several upgrade options but in the end it's just a backupper and puts old garbage back onto the new ROM like every backupper. I'm always very cautious with using "old" backups.

Isidar the advanced network item (should) collects the HSDPA, GPRS Authentication, the CSD Line Type and the SMS Service control panel items in one unified settings panel. See screenshots attached.
As for the Office Mobile Suite, I had/have Word, Excel, Powerpoint and OneNote available with all the bepe ROMs I tried. Maybe sounds offensive, but: did you check your Start Menu? The Office Mobile Suite is added to the Start Menu by default and cannot be found in the Programs panel.

The tom tom voices need to be installed to SD card.

About 1.28.61.01, it is much older than this rom... the PDAViet ppl changes the rom date.

I will try another database for the next build. If it is the same problem I'll go back the the one I used in the last ones even when it is smaller

You just need to create a SDConfig.txt inside the root of the SD card. Autorun will execute it.

I don't know about the Radio. I suffered connection problems myself while I had it flashed and alot of people complaining about BT problems or even broken BT hardware were/are using the test Radio. Downgrading usually solved the problem unless the hardware became defective. It could be coincidence that quite some BT units broke using the test Radio, I just don't see any advantage in using the new Radio and I don't trust it.

About the speed difference, if there is one it is not something I can fix, bc all languages are using the same XIP section and the same OS files and also all languages have exactly the same config... just the language resource files are different.

The camera patch should already be included. This rom is v1.50.xx and that is the same version as the dll in the fix cab, so it was already fixed in the base rom.

When I listen to MP3 via Coreplaer and volume set to maximum I like the sound. It is OK for me. The same MP3 as a ringtone is very quiet.
You can edit registry to increase it. Go to
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Ring
The value you need is InitVol. I set it to 11 (decimal)

Isidar the advanced network item (should) collects the HSDPA, GPRS Authentication, the CSD Line Type and the SMS Service control panel items in one unified settings panel. See screenshots attached.
As for the Office Mobile Suite, I had/have Word, Excel, Powerpoint and OneNote available with all the bepe ROMs I tried. Maybe sounds offensive, but: did you check your Start Menu? The Office Mobile Suite is added to the Start Menu by default and cannot be found in the Programs panel.

in 62 and 63 (notomtom and standard) the airplane mode does not work in the quick list.

Also in both versions, using the phone settings and the "Band" tab, I turned off auto and choose GSM for my band, so I don't use 3G. problem is now in both versions is taht i see the bars for signal quality but when I reboot the device I get not E or G just the "no connection" symbol and it tells me to wait 15 seconds for the phone tot urn on or something.

havn't done much testing (ie didnt try to amke a phone call yet or anything) but it would't let me send any text messages.

I've hard reset probably twice for each version or omre.

It's that simple: Set a shortcut to \Windows\folderview.exe
and you have the system open the Programs folder without the lag.
You can assign this also to a softkey or to FTouchflo gesture or
whatever you want.

bepes ROM doesnt feature a Bootscreen. Search the forums, there is a thread with original bootscreens or original splashscreens in the Polaris upgrading section. But watch out, your device will hardreset after you flashed the Bootscreen. You can stop that happening by flashing the Bootscreen (just swap the RUU_signed.nbh) using the Custom RUU you'll find in the Polaris upgrading forum.

airplane mode does not work in the quick list ... would't let me send any text messages.
Try setting SMS Service to GSM or GPRS, just the other one you have now ;) in Advanced Network. Should help it.
I can confirm the Airplane Mode not working from the Long Press End Key on .63 WWE Standard.

It's 1.58.23.21 and not .21.23 ;) And you'll find it in the Polaris upgrading section of the Forums. Use the search. Bepes ROMs don't include a Radio ROM, it doesn't do anything to your Radio.

Yes this is correct. Radio 1.58.21.23 is the last ROM which HTC shipped. Its most likely taken from the WWE RUU which you'll find on the xda-devs ftp server.

My issues with the icon not showing up when I switch to only GSM band was because of Schapps advanced config. I had disabled the option of "auto attach 3g/gprs when radio turns on" or something.

Don't knwo what that has to do wtih it, as i don't want 3g or gprs, but disablign it caused me to not have E or G icons.. weird.. still had a singal strength though. Don't know much about networks though of course.

SMS Service was always set to GSM on all roms, and it was fine until last night, which i thought was weird. maybe just a network problem.

none the less, no worries as i am flashing to .64 anyways :P

About this release:
- IE History is not fixed yet, might be a problem of the 19199 build, bc all other polaris roms with that build have the same problem
- about the sound intensity, I compared it to the HTC roms and I think it was the same
- End Key app is not fixed yet <- edit: added this line

My impressions about the new base 1.50 base rom: I think it is much more stable. Always had some problems with ActiveSync like the device disconnected randomly - did not happen since the update

Ah I see.

Well my reasoning was that 3G uses a lot more battery so i just went to phone settings and instead of auto chose GSM.

I also noticed that my service provider charged me 15 cents for data usage, when I have no data connection set up and all i do is use wifi. this is what ahs me concerned. I can monitor it easier on my cruise, but my girlfriends htc smartphone I cannot monitor as easily. So I don't know how we are getting charged data usage if i set my phone to GSM and have no internet/data connections set up.. unless as you are saying, G and E are still data connections.

I figured I could just make sure SMS is sent over GSM, and since I have no data/internet connection set up I wouldn't have to worry about data charges.

as for the send/end keys, I am hopign I can edit the long press end key shortcut parameters to point to comm manager isntead of quick list, that is waht I ment, sorry. Just have not tried it yet.

baklaonoy this seems broken in all the recent builds. Have patience, bepe is already trying to fix it.

Findings so far:

When entering device ID in "About" the 20-key keyboard won't switch back to small letters. It types small letters, but the keyboard shows like CAPS is locked.
I still get a faulty connection and MMS setup. Last time it was ok was on .58.
On the German .64 build the speed is back. There is no lag anymore anywhere.
How about including a prepatched HTC Home so people can use any city off the accuweather.com site?
And if you'd do the above, you could look into extending the ROM Settings for editing the location. Kind of like the HHC weather dialog.

In all versions I install on my HTC Touch Cruise (Polaris) I can't ad a voice command of my contact, or any other application !

I think that's a Big problem for all HTC car user who need to find a contact !

Voice Command doesnt need to be trained, there is no need to "add" contacts. Voice Command guesses how your contacts would be pronounced and you can show/dial/access them like that. Using the EN version for example, you'd say "Show Contactname" or "Call Contactname work/mobile/home" you can say commands like "What is my battery level" etc. Say "Help" for a list of possible commands.

Does the French ROM feature a French Voice Command or an English one? If it features a French one, I'd suggest you stick to "Aide!" instead of "Help..." :p

Bubble breaker is gone now. Is there a cab file available for it? Also I am syncing properly with the exchange server at work. I have not had a problem with it in any version. 6.4 is working great for me.

When activating voice command using a button on the phone it starts and listens for the command and works properly. How ever when you activate it using the bluetooth headset it will start up and work, but now it also turns on the display and the phone app by bringing up the keyboard. Before the bluetooth would just do what ever command without starting the display up.
