Can you upload your fixed usbtool.exe? I'm happy with my setup now but would like to lose the typo!

You can buy the Shift at Coolblue (umpcshop.be). They have a shop in Antwerp where you can play with the Shift before you buy it. They have them on stock right now (see their website).

secondly i noticed after doing this hack that you can actually click on the phone icon and do everything except actually make a call. Do you guys think we can replace a file to enable the calling or we have to wait until we can actually make a custom ROM?

Hi I did it,
using the packages...
Only one problem... The USB tool keeps disconnecting randomly, and sometimes reconnects but sometimes doesn't until I restart wm..

I am verry glad with realvga although some programms show up verry strange. (pocketplus icons e.g.).

Gonna try and search for a usbtool solution now.
(anyone found it allready?)

First thank you for what u done, u really make the shift more sexy.....i installed the dial pad but can't find it any where, also the sync between vista and WM always fail ,i tried to sync only my contacts from outlook to wm but i can't ......if u let us access the sd card also ....wow than this will be fabulous.....the thing i dont understand if everything so far possible why HTC doesn't make full wm from biganing!!!!!

What he calls the dial pad is actually a 'SIP', ie a keyboard.... check the different keyboards you have installed, you'll find it there.

i tried to download sw from pocket gear direct from wm but when i hit download and run it ,it says download is not pocket pc valid app so switch again to vista go to wm device center ,go to file managment ,browse the contents of ur device, hit and than hit again my documents ,my download is there and i can install the sw easily......wow shift worth now all the waiting

I was asuming this was about WM/Snapvue side. There is not enough space in it to put a movie on there...
On my Kaiser TCPMP plays All kinds of video files. If they are downscaled to QVGA resolution it runs rather smoothly (even without the proper screendriver...).
On Snapveu, I haven't tried any moevies yet, because the USB tool keeps disconnecting and I can't really move a large file on it...

After having followed this and other threads in "silence" for the past two weeks (since I got my Shift), I would now like to add my big kudos to Paul from MoDaCo (and those that enabled him to get there) for the excellent job done! :)

I followed the steps in the video and everything worked out fine. WM player works (used the ShiftPack), OM did not, but I installed an Italian version and now I am able to use all three apps without a hitch.

When someone will have found a way to use the SD slot (and GPS, but that's not too important for me), this machine will be the only one I will be carrying around.

I still smile remembering a client's face when I extracted the Shift from my bag and did a complete, 52-slide presentation with their conference room projector!

Is there anyone in the Loveland/Fort Collins area of Colorado that can lend me their sim card for 5 minutes so I can liberate my shift? I tried copying the liberate .cab file to the snapvue side by installing it as a certificate as someone else mentioned. But even though the file is on the snapvue side I cannot get the extension to change from .cer to .cab. I've renamed it to liberate.cab, but snapvue thinks it's called liberate.cab.cer.

Hi, wondering if anyone could help, I've ran the easy WinMo upgrade for my shift. The first time I did it, I was able to connect to vista but afterwards have not been able to. I have removed all softwares, reset both SnapVue and Vista and everything in between...no luck. Would could I be doing wrong...I have the usb tool in snap vue but it does not connect. Any help/suggestion will be appreciated.

Thanks a lot, good to play around with these things, even sometimes when you don't really know what you're doing. I unchecked the avdvance usb functionality in WM side and now I can connect, thanks fior the info. Although when I have sync connectivity, it automatically disconnects my 3g internet connection, I'm sure someone will suggest the solution. but at least I can install to my WM now.

Don't worry, if something goes wrong, since the ROM is not modified by this process, a "simple" hard reset will revert everything to the initial SnapVue !
But if you really want to dump the ROM, look for the thread written by pof in this forum...

I have strange problem - WM office doesn't work at all. I can see applications icons at Programs but could not open excel, word or ppt files or launch excel, word or ppt programs. I'm from Russia and my shift running russian WM - maybe that's the problem? ANybody knows decision? Sorry for bad English....

Did you install it ? Because links are empty after a "liberation", you have to install the Office Shiftpack...
yes, i try version from modaco site and from xda site.... version from modaco show me icons of excel, word etc. and that's all.... version from xda doesn't show.... and both doesn't work :(

Not sure if this is relavant (only had the shift a couple of days) but after liberating, I did the SP1 update.
After update the shift would not get thru Windows startup with a NTOSKRNL.EXE error.

Could be down to a 'Bad' update but going to fully update the unit before I Liberate this time.

Bit of a bugger that I did a full machine backup to a USB drive and because this is a HDD restore of Vista, you dont have the availability of using the 'Restore a previous Backup' you have when using a CD install.

It just returns the old 0x810000EE Vista error that no backups have been previosly made on this machine when you try a full restore after HTC recover!! :(

I Have the same problem on the Danish One of Shift ...WM office doesn't work at all. I can see applications icons at Programs but could not open excel or word..

get the error Box with nothing in and the ok check box.....

Update on my initial problem...

Did a system restore and made all Vista updates inc SP1 BEFORE modding anything and all working like a charm..

Still can't exclude a bad update but good thought for anyone.

Plus from this is DON'T rely on Vista Total Backup, use a third party backup such as Acronis that leaves an operating system attached to the BU file and then you can boot from USB..;)

One ugly problem: ActiveSync trashed my NOTES in copying them from VISTA-side Outlook to WM-side. Some appear as WM-side NOTES alright, but others show up as text files in FileExplorer->MyDocuments, and MyDocuments now also contains heaps of undeleteable bogus folders and files. SNAPVIEW_RESET on the VISTA-side doesn't fix it, and I am afraid to reset on the WM-side as it seems likely that will wipe out the LIBERATION and SHIFTpack installations.

I second all the wishes for SD card or USB stick access ... and/or is there a way to increase the memory (what is it, hard disk space borrowed from the VISTA-side??) available to WM?

You guys rock. I am able to liberate my Shift. It is a Chinese version. I changed the display language to English on Vista side and liberated SnapVUE. I am waiting for custom ROM, so that I could change the language on WM side. I know you guys will open doors for it.

It seems I do everything in the video:
- move settings to my docs
- save cab file in my docs
- save liberate.lnk in settings
- move settings back to windows

BUT when I open settings - no Liberate! It doesn't show up.

I have repeated the procedure and the shift tell me the files are in there and do I want to rewrite.

Any thoughts about what is wrong?

Dear Guys,

do you have any Idea how to pass by the message about potentially unsafe attachments?

When I point on the file in the e-mail from modaco site, I got the message "...The file can not be save because it is potentially unsafe.." I tried to uncheck the box in security settings but without effect.

help guys to free my monkey :)

Soultion is very simple: You get that message when you click on attachement but just keep the pen pressed on the attachement in ordrer to initiate a mouse right click then select Save As. This way you can download any attachement and avoid the restrictions of the security messages.

I have three quick questions:
- Is the phone function also enabled with this mod?
- Is it any easier by enabling full WM functionality to use theird party GPS software for WM5/WM6 for navigation?
- If needed to do a hard re-set, will all of this be kept or re-set back to its default and all will have to be re-done?

As long as your shift is liberated and your new ROM is WM 6.1 professional built for Shift.
