Hey all,

I'm not usually a person who will just plug random commercial software, but I came across some software that I felt compelled to share with all of you, since we now have GPS, and this could be very useful in the event that you lose your phone, and aid you in having the local authorities get your phone back.

It's called "Sprite Terminator," and it's from the same company who brought you Sprite Backup, which if you haven't used it yet, you should buy it. It's the simplest, most effective backup solution for Windows Mobile I've ever used.

Anyway, on to the meat and potatoes as they say :)

Sprite Terminator will allow you to do many things with your phone in the case of loss or theft. the program installs, and runs in the background at all times. you can send it an SMS message with a special command, your password you set, and then the action you would like it to perform.

For example, if I send a text message to my phone that looks like this:

spritecmd (password) gps

it will reply to me with a CLICKABLE LINK that takes me to google maps and shows me exactly where my phone is!!!!!

The other options are that you can completely wipe your phone and storage card clean, you can lock your phone so that no calls can be made, you can unlock it, you can change the password, you can get your call log sent to you to see what calls have been made since you lost it, the list goes on...See the bottom of this post for an excerpt straight from the company.

Even better is that it's completely unapparent on my mogul. the program intercepts the SMS so you never see it at all on the phone.

Better yet is that having this installed has not increased my powerdrain (If you know me you know I'm very anal about how much battery power my mogul is using at all times) and it doesn't seem to affect my amount of RAM either, or else it's extremely negligible.

All in all, 15 bucks for this isn't too bad!! :)

************************************************** *************

Here's an excerpt of the features from their site, which is located at
http://www.spritesoftware.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=195&utm_source=Terminator-HMP-MoreLink&utm_medium=Terminator-HMP-MoreLink&utm_term=Terminator-HMP-MoreLink&utm_content=Terminator-HMP-MoreLink&utm_campaign=Terminator-HMP-MoreLink

When will Terminator save you?

* Find your lost phone using GPS - See exactly where your phone is and track it.
* Lost or Stolen Phone - Remotely Lock or Wipe it
* Decommissioning a phone for re-cycling or resale - Don't risk leaks or embarassment

Why should I care?
Personal or Corporate Data on Smartphones means you risk your privacy and/or your company’s confidential information. According to the Gartner Group, over 250,000 cell phones and PDAs are lost or stolen at airports every year, and only 25 to 30 percent of them ever make it back to their rightful owners.
Key Features

* Locate your phone using GPS - See exactly where your phone is and track it on via Google Maps, or Virtual Earth.
* Set and Forget – Once configured, Sprite Terminator is unobtrusive and can only be uninstalled with the correct password
* Remote Delete – Send an SMS message to initiate the wipe operation including all external storage cards
* Remote Lock-Down – Send an SMS message to lock all functionality or re-set the device master password
* SIM Change Alert – Receive a notification SMS message if the SIM card has been changed
* Activity Retrieval – Send an SMS message to retrieve call log entries
* Supports all Windows Mobile 5 & 6 Phones

is there a way to cook it into a rom, with password and settings already all configured? (that way a hard reset wont wipe it out)

ooh, that's an excellent idea!! I don't know if you could do that or not. I'll try to investigate a little

I'm certain you could, but it might take some fiddling. You can configure an OEM to drop into a kitchen that will put the files and reg tweaks in place, but you first have to figure out what they all should be.

Probably wouldn't be ridiculously difficult, though.

Anyone want to take a crack at it?

I haven't played with the Kitchen's yet, but I just might be that guy this time. We'll see what my week has in store for me. Anyone know if it's available on a trial basis? I'd hate to drop $15 on it just to see if this can be done. I like the thought of it, but if circumventing it is only a hard reset away, I don't see a need.

Update: NM on the trial, they do offer one. So give it a try if you're uncertain give it a try, but be aware "Don’t plan on hard-resetting your device as part of a trial?" is right there on the page.

I poked around their site, did a search, and didn't see anything regarding a its ability to survive a hard reset. I'd expect to test it with a hard reset. Is it that easy to get around or did they cook some magic into it?

Any progress on integrating it into a Kitchen or anyone's ROM? Thanks--RR

I spent hours working out how to do this but I have been able to cook a rom with Sprite Terminator installed and configured. Now when your device is hard reset, Sprite Terminator continues running fully featured and hidden! If anyone thinks this might be helpful let me know.

Here is a similar program if your pda gets lost/stolen
It's also free!

StealSafe (WM5, WM6)
by ZEDSOFT Hungary Ltd.
With this application you can delete all your Appointments, Contacts, Messages, Tasks and/or your Storage Card with a simple SMS.

I am very interested if you all can get this into an OEM. I just purchased both Terminator and Backup and would like to see Terminator survive a hard reset as well. I do use UC but if I wiped the SD card then a hard reset would not install it.

So it works with CDMA and not just GSM networks? I like the Terminator as I can wipe the unit clean. I didn't see that as a feature here, but I do like that it is custom ROM capable so I can cook it in my ROM and it will survive a hard reset.

Can you share how you got it into an OEM and configured it to survive a hard reset?

It is a real pleasure to be able to contribute something useful to the XDA Developers community for a change. I have found these forums to be invaluable in my search for answers!

This is quite a long procedure and not quite for noobs but is clear enough for anyone to follow.

Could someone please be kind enough to make this a sticky for others to find?

The procedure is attached!

Good luck.

If anyone finds an error in my procedure, let me know by PM.

That looks way complicated. I guess we are just looking for an OEM folder to put in the Kitchen to include when we cook a ROM. Like the Chess game I have attached is an OEM folder in my kitchen.

Holy Molly! 76 steps! I think people will like it(or at least me) if you make it as an OEM folder, along with some xml file input? You may create a new thread and it will get some attention!

So does this program enable gps to get a fix before it sends the location ?
Is it possible to send a sms to prime the gps ?

Answer to the first question is yes. It will not send an SMS with a GPS fix until you send it the GPS command. Then it will wait (and eventually timeout) until it gets a GPS fix. I don't know what the timeout is (nor is it configurable) but it is quite a long time. If it does not get fix, you get an SMS saying no GPS fix was possible.

Answer to the second question, there is no need since the timeout is quite a while.

It is easy enough to create an OEM folder for it, but it requires some input which is not generic, such as a User name, IMSI, license key etc. It looks like this may have to be entered at some point before or during the packaging. I have not got the knowledge to do this but I am happy to do what I can with some help?

Great info on how to get this program to stick after a hard reset!

The only other problem I can see is after a hard reset on a verizon phone, usually the A-Key needs to be reset.
Will it recieve/send a sms without a proper A-Key ?

Maybe we just need a rom that requires a password before a hard reset will proceed. My luck I'd forget the password!

I believe ther is a misstake: step 44 i get an error message saying it can't find boot.rgu

is this normal?

Verizon doesn't need an A-Key after a hard reset. I have done it a couple of times now and worse case I just do a *228 and the OTP takes care of syncing up the phone. I do use GCs Arcsoft MMS for Verizon but it is a separate install but I use UC so it will load it after a hard reset. That is why I would like to get Terminator in the ROM so I can wipe it and still track its where abouts.

Could somebody explain two things:

step 40: it can't find boot.rgu so that step doesn't work for me.
When i got to choose my radio version, i can't find one. I have unpacked my official htc rom but no radio file found inside of it.

What am i doing wrong?

Yes, sorry. There was an error on steps 40 & 49. The problem is that default.txt and user.txt need to be renamed as root.rgu so rgucomp can process the file using rgucomp -b (it looks for boot.rgu).

The new procedure is attached and the original updated.

Please look at the revised procedure. You probably meant step 44 which is when you would have found the error. You can search for a good radio on the XDA forums.

Hi everyone, here is a package for Sprite Terminator 1.2. Use with KaiserKitchen or RaphaelKitchen. Because some settings are personalised (your parnered phone numbers and password etc), you will need to edit 6113774c-bec5-432d-983f-fe230b6f2228.rgu (file is inside attached st.rar) with your own settings. Anything in there with ****** you need to replace with your own personalised settings. To get your personalised settings, first install your purchased copy of Sprite Terminator and configure it.

Buy from www.spritesoftware.co.nz

Then open your registry and copy the config you found into 6113774c-bec5-432d-983f-fe230b6f2228.rgu.

Preserve the format in 6113774c-bec5-432d-983f-fe230b6f2228.rgu and just replace the **** entries with your own!

Don't forget to:

1. Ensure that there is blank line at the end of the text file
2. Wordwrap is OFF!
3. Save the file as unicode
4. Run the kitchen and cook!

This has been tried and tested!!

:)

Looks like Terminator is about to undergo a complete re-write.

I have tried running Terminator on a xv6800 MR1, Skywing GPS enabled. I cannot get it to respond to text messages, no logs, no gps, no remote wipe, nada. Here is the response I received from Sprite tech support:

"Unfortunately, we have been unable to find a workaround for this bug.

Currently development of Sprite Terminator has been taken in a new direction, which, effectively, means that we are rebuilding it from the bottom up.

This development is likely to take a couple of months. . . . <snip>"

If anyone does have this working on a xv6800, I'd appreciate anything you can pass on about getting this to work.

Hi everyone.
I tried the suggested procedure "SpriteProcedure:"but at step 12 which says" Type the following command: imgfstodump imgfs-in.bin"
the dump folder gets very big in size even more than 10GB and I run out of space in that partiton. I even could not find the mentioned file in step 14 "initflashfiles.dat"

Do you think this is normal or am I missing something here?
Thanks
