(special note), "Calendar" Icon will not display as in pic, due the type of device. Only on a Iphone will it be displayed that way.


With the help and inspiration from Bluemetalaxe and many others here, I was able to create some icons for UL. All the icons are 48x48 pixels, which the size can be altered in the UL settings. Up to five 48x48 icons can be placed side by side and flushed on the bottom of your today screen.
What I suggest is creating a new "UL Icon" folder on your SD card, so that you can save and use as many icons as you'd like, without worrying about memory.

I also posted some PNG images and icons here as well http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=378260&page=4 post # 37, but from now on I'll be posting my releases here.

The application I use to make the icons (Icofx) can be located in post # 13. Also if you have any icon request, please let me know.

A brief tutorial on using and installing UL icons:

Bottom Task Bar: If you and when you want to disable the bottom task bar in your today screen, download and install dcinobar.exe, and place it in your windows\startup folder in your device, then reboot.

Scroll Bar in Today Screen: If you and when you want to disable the scroll bar on your today screen, (so you can place your UL icons on the bottom), go into the registry settings of your device, (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\Ultimatelaunc h\" and change "Type" from "4" to "5”. This value locks the plugin to the today screen effectively, thus disabling (removing) the today screen scroll bar (then reboot so the setting will stick). Special note … you have to also Uncheck all your “today” plugins, which is located in your settings/today/Items folder, you want nothing but icons on your today screen like the pics in the first post.

Icons on the bottom of the screen: If and when you want the UL tabs/icons to sit against the bottom of the today screen, you have to go into the UL settings, then go into the “Display” folder like in the picture above. Pllease note the settings I currently have. Checking the "Fixed Plugin-height" box will enable you to adjust the space between the top and bottom tabs. The higher the number, the more space between and vice versa get it? Good!!. Now also make you choose "bottom" in the "Tab Headers position" drop down box as well.

The quickest and easiest way (for me) of placing these icons on my deivce is through active sync. Now go into your "Program Files/Ultimate Launch\Icons" folder in your device. This is where you place the icons.

(1) go into your UL settings on your phone, (for example) in the "Tab" folder,
(2) Highlight the first item and hit "change" which is the 3rd button on the right,
(3) Go to "tab" again, and you'll see XP-Icon button. Hit that and it'll browse your device/storage card. Look for where icon you placed it, which was in Program Files\Ultimate Launch\Icons folder. There you will find the icons.

Also remember, you can assign two images to one (.exe) an application, "Normal" and "Pushed'. This is a cool feature many other launchers don't have.

If anyone comes across anything significant I missed and should mention, please don't hesitate to tell me, and I'll update the tutorial.

Below is the app I use to create/edit icons. Basically using this is fairly simple. If I can do it, you or anyone can too, lol.
I'm still learning how to use the application because the original picture size varies. Also, I included some ready-made icons as well (some of which are pictured above). Hopefully, this will spark many to create unusual and interesting new icons:D

I created a brief tutorial for installing UL Icons in post #9. If I may, I will put the icons you made (and give you credit for converting pngs to icons), and include put in my second post. As time passes, I'll coninuously update my postings on the first page so that everyone wanting to download/use icons won't have to read through lots of posts. Thank you again.

kdash, I'm afraid the "sms counter" ability doesn't exist with UL. I believe it's strickly a customizable application launcher. If you do a diligent search different threads in the "Development and Hacking" forum, you'll find what you're looking for.

It sounds like you're looking for a today plugin that will allow you be notified if and when you recieve new messages right? There are loads of them and some of them are free. I personally use Mobile Shell V 2.0 and it works fine for me. Please type "today plugin" or "sms counter", in the search feature here.

The application I use you see in my top bar is called "Quick Menu". For me, it's a small, FREE, and effective start menu replacement application

I just stumbled upon this thread. From reading it in the beginning it appears OP had posted png of these icons and they now appear replaced by ico's. Can OP repost PNG's so that i can use them for other app like rlToday, etc.?

I take no credit for creating the themes, and props go out to those that do. Also, I updated my first post and included a link to another thread where I posted some icons and images. Thanks for the compliment. I love Skyforce and Skyforce reloaded games :). I posted those specifc game images because it was requested. Keep in mind, they're just images and you can assign to images for application "Normal" and when "Pushed". Sometime today, I will make and post those particular icons (and original images) you requested. I'll try my best.

The screen shots are to only show what the icons like only. What I post are only

Quick Menu application is a Start Menu replacement. It does not replace or skin the top bar, nor will it make your phone look or behave like an iphone.
BUT ... it will enable to you view the battery and memory status in the top bar of your today screen.

As far as the text below the icons, I don't have a solution, but what I can do is forward you to a more approriate thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366796 for a solution, or perhaps someone here can provide you with a definitive solution.

Did you try checking the box for "individual sized" icons? Anywhere from 50x50 through 60x60 is good and that's what I use.

UL Settings\Change\, then "Display" tab, and you'll see "Margin between icons (in pixels). Set "Horizontal" and "Vertical" to "0". Click ok and you're done. That's what my current settings are and the result is shown on my screens. Because it's high customizable, the are some many settings, which is why I encourage people to play with it. If someone has a particular question(s) regarding UL, I'll answer them asap. The word on the street (sshh...), the developer of UL is working on the next version. So I'm looking forward to that release.

I have been attempting to create an icon with no luck. I create the icon with icoFX, then put it in the UL icon folder. When I try to choose the icon to go with a command (not a tab), it ends up being the generic white page with the windows logo on for every icon I try. The same icon that Rednes posted earlier. It seems pretty straight forward, so I am at a loss of what I am doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

degicank, there can be a variety of reasons for what you're experiencing. whenever you open an image in icofx, it gives you an option. Makes sure you have the "True Color + Alpha Channel (32 bits) checked and the Custom (width and height at 60 and the square checked as well. Do whatever tweaks to the image ..... Press Ctrl + I OR .. you go into your "Icon" in the task bar and choose "Create Icon from image choose these settings

Hey, thank you robosiris. Your help is much appreciated. I was able to save it as an icon and I figured out that I was trying to pull up the icon in UL using the program-icon instead of the xp-icon. It seems to work, only thing is for some reason when I save the settings in UL and go back to my today screen, it only shows about 5 pixels of the screen from the top. The rest is blank (even after 3 soft resets :confused:). Gotta love that computer stability. :)

Edit: No problem. I got it working again.

Only problem I have is aligning the bottom tabs to be same as the launch icons.

Im missing some prada icons, I have the png's but I cant seem to make correct icons of them, so if anyone have the whole set as working icons, please post them :)

select as icon not the program-icon button. try with xp-icon. after that you can change the icons.

Big thanks for the prada template. I will hopely update the thread with these new (or Newer, lol) icons before the hour. I quickly becoming familiar with photoshop and icons, :cool:.

I was thinking about coming out with icon packs, but I think it's better to just post most wanted ones, randoms, and take requests. There are way too many applications, tastes, and preferences .... which is all good.

I was thinking the same regarding the forum rules and guidelines posting adult content. Perhaps when XXX icons are created, I can just provide the link to view the icons, (instead of directly posting it here), post warnings on nudity and such. I wouldn't want anyone to get offended here:D

The quickest and easiest way (for me) of placing these icons on my deivce is through active sync. Now go into your "Program Files/Ultimate Launch\Icons" folder in your device. This is where you place the icons.

(1) go into your UL settings on your phone, (for example) in the "Tab" folder,
(2) Highlight the first item and hit "change" which is the 3rd button on the right,
(3) Go to "tab" again, and you'll see XP-Icon button. Hit that and it'll browse your device/storage card. Look for where icon you placed it, which was in Program Files\Ultimate Launch\Icons folder. There you will find the icons.

what you're experiencing is unusual, for most if not everyone I know both here and there have been able to use these icons without fault. Just wondering ... did you copy the prada plus icons from here (zip file), onto your computer, then saved/moved it to your storage card, as a zip file? IF you did that, UL wont be able to read/detect icons because it's a zip file. You have to individually move icons from the zip file to the storage card. Can you give me a walk through of what you did?

Hi all. Frustrated fellow member here...need your help.

I'm going out of my mind trying to use the icons I've downloaded from here (beautiful BTW :)), but I can only apply them to the main tabs and not to individual programs..i.e. can it be done? Change default progam icons in UL with all these beautiful icons? Or are they meant just for the main category tabs?

I've read through all the post tonight and tried everything and came up empty.:(

I can apply the XP icons thing, but only to main category apps! Heeeelllppppp!!!! Please

Edit: Duh found it myself! :) For anyone else who has this problem; when you first set-up a new icon, it is that point that you must specify 'XP Icon'. If you don't choose this option at that time, you will not see the option again later and will have to delete the whole tab and start afresh to be able to see that particular option in order to assign theses beautiful icons to tour individual apps. Hope that helps someone.:)

Any file on my phone (att tilt) ending in .ico have a red opera mobile "o" in front of them? That makes no difference in how the program you using the icons with. Thats just proberly the first time you noticed something like that but its common...

A brief tutorial on using and installing UL icons:

Bottom Task Bar: If you and when you want to disable the bottom task bar in your today screen, download and install dcinobar.exe, and place it in your windows\startup folder in your device, then reboot.

Scroll Bar in Today Screen: If you and when you want to disable the scroll bar on your today screen, (so you can place your UL icons on the bottom), go into the registry settings of your device, (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\Ultimatelaunc h\" and change "Type" from "4" to "5”. This value locks the plugin to the today screen effectively, thus disabling (removing) the today screen scroll bar (then reboot so the setting will stick). Special note … you have to also Uncheck all your “today” plugins, which is located in your settings/today/Items folder, you want nothing but icons on your today screen like the pics in the first post.

Icons on the bottom of the screen: If and when you want the UL tabs/icons to sit against the bottom of the today screen, you have to go into the UL settings, then go into the “Display” folder like in the picture above. Pllease note the settings I currently have. Checking the "Fixed Plugin-height" box will enable you to adjust the space between the top and bottom tabs. The higher the number, the more space between and vice versa get it? Good!!. Now also make you choose "bottom" in the "Tab Headers position" drop down box as well.

Thanks for your input. I have tried your suggestion but it is very hit & miss. I am using an icon set from here somewhere where all the icons are 48x48. Probably one in five work, which is not good. If there is an error it is always with the normal icon item, not the pushed item.

PS - Ok I'm beginning to get somewhere now but slowly, and I still get inconsistencies. One issue I have come across is that there seems to be no way to delete a plugin. Once a plugin, example HTC Home is selected into UL it seems it cannot be deleted even when all the tabs have been deleted.

Has anyone a solution for this please other than deinstalling and reinstalling UL?

So you're question is, is there an removal/uninstall application shortcut within UL? No. But I believe there might be an application or two floating around here somewhere that enables you to quickly remove applications on you device. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your question.

What I did was to install HTC Home within UL as a plugin. You can do this within UL by going to the plugins option. What happens is that one of the "pages" of UL holds the plugin, in this cae, HTC Home.

What I am trying to do is to delete HTC Home as a plugin from within UL. It seems you can include almost any plugin within UL, eg SPB Phone Suite, but once in UL you can't take it out (at least I can't find a way to do it).

Does this explain more clearly what I am trying to do?

Oh, ok. I understand your question better now. Is the HTC Home in a Combined Tab or have its own tab? Sometimes combining today plugins will cause glitches and hiccups with UL itself. This is a known issue.
Here are some things I'd try first, (1) deleting that the tab where HTC Home is in, (not just the HTC Home within the tab, but the whole tab altogether, combine or seperate), (2) Delete the HTC Home plugin within the Today's settings on your device, then delete the HTC Home within the UL settings, then uncheck Ultimate Launch within Today settings of your device. Now soft reset your device, go to your today settings, and enable/check Ultimate Launch.
Hopefuly this will resolve the issue your having. A sure way of resolving your issue is reinstalling Ultimate Launch and never combine the UL and a today plugin.
On a side note, with certain cooked roms, the HTC home is known to cause problems Tom Tom Nav.

I've reinstalled UL several times to make function as I would like it to, which is minor to me because I've on several occasions had to reflash my device. Now that's drastic, lol. I heard talk to a newer UL in the works, but I havent heard anything definitive regarding its release. Sorry I couldnt be more of a help.

Well you're right, UL is not for beginners. UL is so configurable that one get lost, lol, and it can become confusing. It's almost impossible document and know everything UL is capable of. Although he MAY be a beginner, (in which we all are in some extent), he has a valid and legitimate concern. He did appear to me he knew how UL worked, and only asked about that today particular today plugin. UL may be perfect and excellent for some and others it may not be as excellent. I may be a rom issue. Just my two cents.

You're welcome Wacky (feel strange calling you that, lol). My thoughts about UL possibly not playing nice with certain cooked roms is based on other highly customizable apps not playing nice as well. I just think when you have two two or more highly customizable things, (cooked roms, today plugins, navigator apps, mobile shell, jbed, etc) and put them togther, sometimes weird and odd things are bound to happen. It's a weird thought that occured to me several weeks ago. On a side note, I still have a splash screen show on my device that was should've left two roms, lol. No compliants though, just lessons.
By the way, excellent reference thread on UL, it's something that's needed for sure. When I first saw your thread, I said to myself, "A UL Wiki." Not many applications have a Wiki. How cool is that, lol?

Thanks and glad you like the icons. Detailed instructions on getting the launcher apps on the bottom OR top of the today screen is in post #9. I personally use one launcher (UL). Getting launcher apps displayed on top AND bottom is not possible with soley with UL (at least, not to my knowledge). But then again, you can install apps like Mobile Shell or Pocket Plus in additional to UL. Those apps create their own shortcuts, allows you to customize and choose your favorite apps on the today screen.
PS. I'm assuming your question, "Can UL icons be dispayed in both places at the same time?" as "Can UL icons representing actual applications be displayed on the top AND bottom of the today screen? Hopes this helps.

i've searched and found only pocket cm themes and in this thread a recommendation to use mobile shell

i want icons on the bottom of the screen which look like the iphone with the number of missed calls/unread sms contained in them.

also i would like my calender icon to change date every day.

the only thing i found with this functionality is ifonz but this is so slow so i'm just wondering how ye manage to do it with ultimate launch

I understand your question, as this question has been brought up from time to time in various threads. To my knowledge and experience of UL, what you're asking about is not possible (well not yet anyway). Although UL is more customizable than most app launchers. I may be wrong or misinformed about this. I recommend checking in on UL threads in your search for a resolution. Sorry can't be more of a help.

Ah yes, the key word is 'possible', lol. But seriously, the images posted in this thread is to show what the icons will look like on your device. The icons used in UL can mostly be used with other app launchers, such as ifonz, (which I think you are referring to).

Ok my best shot here. I would custom icons to what I want I am sure robosiris can help you with that aspect. Next I would see what part of the rom im using holds this info and have iit sent to the icons . Meaning number 1 would equal an icon with the number 1 on i t. Or 1 other way would be to make an icon with an empty space in it and have the counts post on top of these icons. My last way which is just being extra lazy would be to make a today screen with the icons as part of the picture and the numbers post on it .

It seems you have all the correct settings, except for the "Tab Header Pixel Height" setting. Here's what you do to increase the size:
(1) Go into UL config settings
(2) Click on the header tab and you'll see the "height" setting
(3) Increase the pixel setting (ie 45)
(4) Hit "ok" and UL config will close and you'll see the difference.

Remember, You can have a 48x48 icon in the tab header, but it won't display the correctly if you don't adjust the Tab-Header's pixel height first. Hope this helps.

Dcinobar doesn't seem to work, the bottom bar stay on top of the icon for some apparent reason. I am using vogue with vitveto new kitchen. Anyone has any suggestion on how to fix it?

The cause can be several reasons,
(1) ensure that you name the created in the windows/startup folder "dcinobar", not "shortcut to dcinobar".
(2) Sometimes "dcinobar" doesn't play nice with certain roms, ie - Garmin rom for kaiser, which is the one the I'm using now.
(3) try similar apps such as "pBar" or a "todayshrink" (something like that - the name escapes now).

I was under the impression that pbar also removed the bottom bar. I may be wrong. I recommended posting your question here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398571 , you may get some additional insight that help you resolve the issue you're having.

The main goal of this thread, which I stated before, was to give everyone the tools (and some ideas) to create and post their icons for UL. I feel I did that sucessfully, as I see many new creations in this and other threads.

Also, it was, (and still is), my hope that this thread can serve as a resource for anyone wishing to create new and interesting icons, not just for UL, but for other apps as well. It was never my intention to keep creating icons until eternity, lol.

Simiilar to Herald and Kaiser rom kitchens/tools, those are the core/main tools to create the nice roms that you and I use. Those kitchens were generated and posted so that people can create and post their own unique roms for others to use.

Of course, you're always welcome to create and post some icons as well.

There can a be a few reasons for the icons not displaying. Are the icons you're creating (for UL) on your computer viewable on your computer. It should be. Did you follow my directions to the letter on first page of this thread?

ok problem sloved i reinstalled from another webby it works already.

Just one more question anyone knows how a program that display the full screen for wheather. Wanna make a tab for it notice weatherpanel possible but must use the manila theme.

Oh one more thing is that I dont wanna display the tabs below just wanna use gestures any idea how to get rid of the tabs. I make the height 0 is that the only way??

To my knowledge, yes, that's the only way to eliminate the tabs, and only have the gesture control.

Regarding the weather program, you way want to shop around the forums for that. UL pretty much works with anything.

EDIT: ok never mind. i was trying to edit my existing program links, which were not xp-icons. anyone having the problem, re-do your link as xp-icon so you don't end up posting dumb posts on the xda board!!!

I reinstalled again then it works. Noticed when I was using the one that was giving me problem the tab for choosing icon is called icon.

Reinstalled when i clicked new they will prompt to choose xp-icon with or with out words. The tab now is called xp-icon. Dont know why this option came out but it works well for me already.

The worst is cant get support from them as you must know russian. Great program but no english support

If you have time could you whip up this icon? It is for software we use at school. I need a 32X32 .PNG, but I will take whatever is easyest for you to make. I HAVE been able to figure out how to resize and convert from ICO to PNG using IcoFX.

A few here encountered the problem you're having, and there's a solution to it. Did you go through my instructions and read through the thread?
Did you "check" the "Individual Icon Size box, and set both pixels to 48. That should do it.

Finally i solved the problem. My Diamond simply needs bigger icon, for example 96x96.

For those who have same problem, just take .png icons, resize with photoshop then make .ico the same size as .png resized.

Also i found how to put text UNDER icons, not on. It needs 2 different size of the same icon, one for normal one for pushed (bigger for pushed, of course). UL uses the space for bigger icon so if smaller icon size + text height <= bigger icon size then should be fine.

Earlier in the thread, the prado template was posted. Does anyone have the prado+ template? It's partially translucent, grey instead of black and has a border.
