question though....if you use it as startup animation...does it display the word once...or does it keep cycling through over and over...
i think it'd look badass if it only did it once....but if it kept going it might look dumb

those are the coolest splash screens i have ever seen. never cared much about them in till now. hmmmm, now to figure out how to cook them into the rom.
i know that the ppcgeeks kitchen it's pretty easy and that i could always cook with that first and then reflash my dcd kitchened rom, but is there a way to do it with out ppcgeeks kitchen flash?
thanks though. nice post

You can enable it in DCDs kitchen also. It is called OEM_HTC_startupanimation.

they only run thru the frame set once...actually i realised the one I made I need to add a few frames too...it only lasts 2 seconds

the easiest way I found is to use advance configuration to change them out....you will need the new 2.1 though the older one dont give you the option of what gif you want for your startup animation...if you are going to use mine give me a little bit to update how many frames it has.... you'll see edit in the first post when I'm done

You don't need to use advanced config to do it, as I have seen a lot of people having issues with their phone using that program with 3.0.x. There is a process called bootsplash cooking. You cook up a small bootsplash ROM that you flash just like you would one of dcd's system ROMS. All it does is flash the bootsplash, takes about 5 seconds. I've done it several times using 2.x.x.

Well ya you can go thru all of that but it's easier the other way. As far as DCD's rom's go..... there has never been an issue with me running advance config on his rom's, neither the old or new, and his ROM's are all I run. So I'd guess there is a lil discrepincy in the compilation or the ROM or the install of advance config. So it's really up to the end user on how they want to get it done. I vote for simple and easy since I run the program anyways. Plus I can change them out very simply and I don't have to flash anything. So it's 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

It's right above the Music Plug-in section. It's marked Startup Animation. Third line down you can select the GIF File you want to use for your animation. Really simple and easy. My suggestion would be to store the gif in My Documents/My Videos that way it's not looking for your sd card.

If you just want this startup animation without flashing a new ROM, you can use a file manager that has the capability to overwrite files (such as Resco Explorer) to replace the existing one on the phone. Just rename any animated GIF file that you want to use to WMStartup_ani.gif and replace the one on your device in the Windows folder. Soft reset your phone and enjoy the new one. :)

Create your own 240x320 .png files and put them in the splashscreens folder in the kitchen, and change the selection in the kitchen when you build....OR you can use one of the many that are already there?
A re-flash will only take about 30 minutes from start to finish!

Hmm, some of those are nice. But I keep mine disabled. There's a reg edit for it. I think it's /HKLM/SOFTWARE/HTC/StartupAnimation/ in there change Enabled to decimal 0
Can anyone confirm if startup is faster w/o animation enabled? I think it may be from what I can tell, but I'm not sure.

I don't believe you can. I may be wrong but.....
I'll try to cab it for you but I'll have to reflash to truely test it since I included it when I cooked this ROM. It might be a day or so but I'll work it out.
One more though would be since I made this post. It could be a matter of minutes before someone goes ahead and does it :D

Question....does anyone know if it's possible to get rid of the welcomehead splash altogether during boot?
As in have the 2 boot splash images (one with the rom and radio version etc, and the other right after without the rom and radio version), then the startup animation, then right into the os...completely bypassing the welcomehead splash? I know some say you can just create a blank, black welcomehead to do this...but it still takes that extra time to boot.

but isnt the welcomehead splash there just for a visual while waiting for your phone to boot up and do it's thing ? what else would be displayed after the animation flash , just a blank screen ?
are you saying that because the welcomehead splash exists, it's just simply taking up time and it would have already been booted if it wasn't there ?

Ok here we go, the first image is part of the system boot sector not windows. The only way to change them is to flash which is simply done if you just want to replace that. Just so you know there are 2 images not one. The first one loads with the radio and os info. Then there is a second one that shows until windows begins to load. When windows starts loading you can have an option of having the animation but its not necessary. Then finally the last one is the windows mobile one.
You can easily change out the animation and the windows mobile one. The animation is called WMStartup_ani.gif and can be changed via the windows folder. The windows mobile image is called welcomehead.96.png and can be changed in the same folder.

2 Questions:
1) How do I create something that will allow me to flash and change the first images (boot screen), and where do I find images to change them out?
2) In my windows folder, I do not have a WMStartup_ani.gif file (I am using DCD 3.0.4), but I do have a welcomehead.96.png file. If I add a WMStartup_ani.gif file to the windows folder, how do I enable it to display at startup?

the reps in those stores probably wont have any idea whats wrong and will have it warranty exchanged. they most likely wont know how to do a soft reset, but they will sure try to look it up on their blackberrys, and fail. then probably give you some BS about how you should have gotten a blackberry... hmm.... fail.

can someone please clear up a little confusion for me please?
there are a few boot screens that i want to change and i want to know how they are identified or how they can be changed.
I currently have a couple of animations because of flashing. Im on a xv6800 withe dcd 3.0.4 and radio 3.37 which i got by flashing altell exe, then overwriting with dcd 3.0.4
ill go in order from boot on soft reset.
what are these called?:
1) First screen with radio and other info in red text on the bottom.
Currently i have big HTC logo with white background, would like plain white verizon screen that i had when i got the phone, before i started messing around with roms etc.
2) currently its the Alltell screen, but thats cause i flashed the altell exe then dcd 3.0.4. i did flash before the alltell customizations ran, but its still there, andy way to get rid of that one?
3)after that comes the small htc logo with the black background that moves. that i think i got from selecting htc startup animation from the dcd 3.0.4 kitchen. that one i can replace without a problem, and i have with the xv6900 startup which is pretty cool
4) after that, comes the wm green, which im fine with and i know how to change
any help on the others?

azclown helped me out with this. His recommendation:
"if you wanna change the boot screens use the PPCkitchen for that, then flash over their ROM with DCD's, thats what I usually do when I want to change my boot screens...."
PPCKitchen makes it easy to change all 4 screens, but last 2 will be overwritten with new Rom. Screens 1 and 2 will stay.
Download at
http://ppckitchen.org/joomla/
I changed the first 2 boot screens with their kitchen, built a Rom based on No2Chem's, then flashed. I didn't even let it reboot. Went back into bootloader and flashed DCD 3.0.4. Worked perfectly.

Again...you don't HAVE to use the ppckitchen to accomplish this. Though, if you're not really experienced with rom cooking and the various parts of the rom then it'd probably be the easiest way.
When I want to swap out my first two boot splashes, I create a small rom that JUST flashes the boot splashes and nothing else. This involves using tools such as dutty's nbhtool, nbhextract, nb image converter. If you're not familiar with these tools then it'd probably be difficult to learn at first...but once you get comfortable doing it, it takes about a minute to prepare, and even less to flash lol.
What you basically do, is you create a very tiny nbh file (rom) that just flashes the boot splashes. You rename it RUU_signed.nbh and drop it in an RUU, or name it TITAIMG.nbh and throw it on a microSD card that's 2GB or less. Flash, literally takes about 2 seconds (the size of the rom is about 500Kb), and your boot splashes are changed.
This DOES cause a hard reset though, but you don't have to reflash the entire dcd rom after, like you do if you use the ppckitchen.

Flash, literally takes about 2 seconds (the size of the rom is about 500Kb), and your boot splashes are changed.

but it would leave ur phone the same way as it wouly be reflashing the entire dcd rom after the ppckitchen one.
so the only time that u actually save is actually flashing, and preparing the rom. woudlnt save any time restoring rom to the way i like it.
thanks for the suggestion though

No...this is incorrect. The PPCKitchen does not include dcd's rom or kitchen, at this time I believe the only WM 6.1 kitchens available to use with PPCKitchen are 2 by no2chem and the 3.35 stock. In order to use dcd's kitchen with PPCKitchen's BuildOS, you would have to manually set it up which would take even longer. The poster who gave you the advice about using the PPCKitchen was stating that you would have to use the PPCKitchen JUST to flash the boot splash images, then flash AGAIN using dcd's kitchen to get back to dcd's rom.

Does anyone know how to get audio enabled with the startup animation? I have tried in vain to accomplish this but no luck. Has anyone else had luck. If so please let me know your registry and audio path.
Thanks,

I was lazy to figure out how to manually change the boot screens. heh After I loaded the new radio with the alltel rom, I tried out the PPC kitchen for a day to change my boot screen, then flashed back to DCD's.

hey this may sound too easy but I was able to change my startup animation without flashing...I didn't think it would work but it did!!
first I searched the - Start/programs/file explorer/windows and I found the Vzw_startup.gif I tried to remove it but its read only and cannot be changed...
so I found the XV 6900 startup.gif I renamed it Vzw1_startup.gif dropped it into the windows folder...went into my registry
HKLM/SOFTWARE/HTC/StartupAnimation/GIFFile
I changed the string to Vzw1_Startup.gif
and saved the changes.I.soft reset and there it was
it was so easy I started switching it to all sorts of gifs just to see if they would work...
This maybe old news, I'm sure someone else somewhere figured this out...but just in case...
I'm gonna try gettin my startup sound to work now...

I thought you can use Schaps Advanced Config app to do this very easily.

All you had to do was rename Vzw_startup.gif to something else. Then copy whatever you want to \Windows named as Vzw_startup.gif. No need to take the time in the registry.

It could not be changed, I tried that as well, I tried to rename it, remove it the option to Cut or rename was greyed out...
I tried to change it from read only to archive, and it would not accept the change...

LOL it would be PERFECT to use the sprint animation on my VZW 6800 and then go to the store complaining about something and watch the look as they do a soft reset!!!
How would I take the matrix one with the green falling letters and make that say Verizon??
Dang it - I'm at work taking a quick break here and started laughing out loud regarding this.
Thanks - I needed that.

Yeah, you can't do it with the regular file explorer. Need to use Total Commander.
