View Full Version : [27 March] "Mobile Vista" v1.2 released (my cooked 3.02 WM6.1 ROM)
Confused Stu
27th March 2008, 02:53 AM
I've just finished uploading v1.2 of my little ROM. As the previous thread with v1 and v1.1 was getting a bit long, I hope you don't mind me starting a fresh one with this.
Please read all of the first two posts. There is some very important info hidden in there, and it's well worth spending the 2 minutes reading it all!
If you're looking for a stripped out, ultra-light ROM for you to load up with your choice of cabs, I'm afraid you've come to the wrong place. Light ROMs are great, but I got bored spending an hour reinstalling and re-setting up my phone every time I flashed (UC helps with this, but you still have to spend some time setting it up). I wanted a ROM that was set up with everything I wanted as soon as the Hard Reset was finished - hence my little ROM here.
Why the name "Mobile Vista"? I initially chose it as Wm6.1 and Vista are both the newest release from MS, and both have been accused of being buggy, but I've personally found them both great! Now I need to stick with it as Mfrazzz very kindly made me a lovely splash screen with it written on - cool!
Sincere thanks to Ionutz6, Ghostie, Poorlyduck, Mfrazzz, Duttythroy, Nadavi, _Alex_, Dr Puttingham, and everyone else whose work I've used to make this. Thank you.

Bugs
TodayAgenda still crashes when you go to the Options via Start>Settings>Today>TodayAgenda>Options. Just tap and hold TodayAgenda on the Today Screen, then select Options and it's fine.
ROM is UC-compliant but only UCv1, not the newer UCv2. This is because I forgot to update this before I uploaded the ROM! I'll fix this and upload a UCv2 Rom ASAP.
MMS Options isn't selectable. Please install Alex's Arcsoft 5.0.31.2 cab to fix this at the moment. (Thanks to McMex and Mfrazzz for finding this bug and it's solution)
Niggles
Windows media Player doesn't start after a Hard Reset on PoorlyDuck's excellent Vista skin, you need to select it through Options>Skins>WMP11
How to flash:
If you don't understand ANY of the terms in the following paragraph, stop, look them up on the WIKI BEFORE you proceeed. If you don't, you WILL end up with a useless phone (a brick)!
Make sure you've got HardSPL
Connect your phone via the USB cable and run the KaiserCutomRUU file
Follow the screen prompts
When you get to the screen alignment bit, Hard Reset the phone
When you get to the screen alignment bit again, leave the phone alone for 2 minutes before doing the alignment (this seems to help speed up the Kaiser)
Follow the rest of the inital screens and let the Autocustomisation run. Your ROM is now installed.
If you haven't got a WM6.1 Radio installed, you'll need to flash one now or your sounds and/or camera won't work. Check here if you're not sure: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_Radio

No, its a Kaiser rom. Don't try to put any Kaiser rom on a wing. You need to move over to the correct forum.

Very nice... I have it installed and have been configuring for an hour or so. I've run into one issue though and I'm hoping there is a solution (I haven't tried to debug it myself yet, just wanted to post this as soon as possible):
If I go to Messaging and then Menu -> MMS Options , I get a blank screen saying to Select Menu and Search Devices to find the new devices (Which I believe is from the BlueTooth options. I wonder if there is a wrong DLL. What version of Arcsoft did you use?). Tapping Menu gives the options of Search Devices, Delete, and Send File (with the last two greyed out). So right now, you cannot modify MMS Options from the Messaging app :( Can someone else that has this installed try this and tell me if you get the same thing?

Ah another find Stu Rom. can't wait to give it a go. Will probably have to wait a day or so, but I'll report in as soon as I do.
I personally picked Stu's rom because TomTom is built right in. I don't need alot of the other stuff but it's nice to have it all there. Very little to add on with this one.
Now if only Weatherpanel updated properly with 6.1.

Sorry I didn't notice the MMS Options bug before release, but thank you for finding it and finding a solution. I'll have to look through the cab later on and compare to the ROM to work out what I broke.
Is the Palm SMS/MMS fully working? From looking through the thread a couple of days ago it looked like it was still in development, hence I didn't try to include it in the ROM (plus I love MS Voice Command reading out my texts, which it never did with Palm SMS on my Hermes). If it's stable and working then I might try to make a version without Arcsoft and with Palm for those who want it?
Everyone - thank you so much for the help, solutions, mirrors and everything so far, and it's only been up 8 hours! You guys really are the reason we all love this forum. :)

Ok, I still have messaging issues. So need some help from others that have this rom installed to see if its me, or the rom.
As stated earlier, MMS Options pulls up bluetooth settings (or somesuch) by default. To work around this I've installed various Arcsoft MMS cabs I had (I'm working on the 3rd version now trying to work around the issues below).
* Since installing this rom, I can receive MMS. I've configured my phone exactly how I've always done it with all other roms, but I have yet to receive an MMS. SMS is working fine (for send and receive). While I don't do MMS a lot, I do get some, and losing this functionality isn't good for me.
* The Arcsoft app built into the rom and now all of the ones I've tried installing all have a common behavior. For the threaded messages, you can't use the d-pad to select previous messages in the conversation. This means you can't delete individual messages (you have to delete the entire conversation!). This is a deal breaker for me. As I said, I'm on the 3rd Arcsoft cab I have and its worked this way with all 3 on this rom. I've installed at least one of these on another rom in the past and I did not have this behavior.
I'll next look at the Palm SMS stuff McMex posted above, but I'm not sure thats what I want to use.

I have the same problem. I had the same problem with the v1.1 (i believe a lot of the WM6.1 have the same thing). What worked for me on v1.1 (which isn't working with v1.2) was to send myself an MMS, soon as that was sent, send myself another one. I got the 2nd one and any after that.

I *think* this is down to the PIE d-pad setting. If you use kaisertweak to change the d-pad in PIE to go up and down thru links rather than the default. Oddly this affects the d-pad in SMS, for example you can't press down d-pad once you've selected your contact that you want to send to. It seems to also affect the d-pad once you've got a conversation open too.
hope this is what you're after.

Oh, dang, I forgot about the D-Pad setting... Ok, I'll give this a try later. But for now, I've installed the PalmSMS stuff McMex posted nd now MMS works fine (I was able to send and receive an MMS for the first time since flashing this rom). So it appears MMS is broken in the rom due to the Arcsoft issues (did v1.2 change the version of Arcsoft?). I'll play with the PalmSMS today, but not sure I like it enough to stay with it (its different, and I just need to get used to it I guess). If not, then I'll unstall the PalmSMS stuff, see if I can get the dpad with Arcsoft to work. If not then I'll go back to Mobile Vista v1.1 for now.
BTW: Confused Stu, overall the rom is great, so don't get me wrong here. Just this Arcsoft issue is a major problem for me due to how I have to use SMS with my job and my postings are not meant as a slap on your work (believe me, I know what it takes to do this stuff, and I also know how frustrating it is to release a rom and then have a bug found in it). Just trying to help debug this and figure out where the issue is and see if its fixable without reflashing.

Well I may have spoke too soon. If I send myself an MMS it works fine. I've had 3 people send MMS to me, and while I now get the message, the pic won't always download (one did from a Razr, but two from two different HTC phones wouldn't dowload).
I'm going back to v1.1 at this point. I'm on P1 coverage this week and can't have SMS and MMS not being reliable. I'll watch the thread and give 1.2 a whirl again after the weekend when it doesn't impact me as much.

This ROM is really great...I've just changed to PalmSMS, as described above, and everything works really fine. I'll look at coming back to v1.2 after I'm done with pager duty this week. So early next week probably and I'll try to see if I can get it all going with PalmSMS. Just spent way too much time on it this morning, and had SMS messages coming in and was missing them.

On my memory card, I've got a folder for the maps, and another for the voices. If you add a voice into the folder and it doesn't show up in the menus, delete the file Storage Card/Voices/collected (or whatever you called your folder) and it'll pick up the voices next time you go into the menu. Note that the voices files need to be in the first level of the voices folder - if you make a folder Storage Card/Voices/Doris/ it won't pick up anything in the Doris folder

I'll be honest, I'm a bit confused by MMS here. I've tried sending myself 2 MMS's and haven't received either of them, but I've used exactly the same MMS package to cook as I used in v1.1 when I could receive them. Maybe the Arcsoft MMS doesn't work properly on a Thursday?!
Short version is I've made a lovely looking ROM that can't receive MMS messages at the moment. I guess maybe I should rename this ROM "iPhone".....
Sorry everyone, I will be looking into this problem and I will find a way to get it sorted. Still can't quite believe MS doesn't build MMS into the OS - after all a £20 Nokia does it, so how can that be a 3rd party add-on for a £450+ phone? Sorry, not a discussion for this thread, just something I've never quite understood.

I'll look at coming back to v1.2 after I'm done with pager duty this week. So early next week probably and I'll try to see if I can get it all going with PalmSMS. Just spent way too much time on it this morning, and had SMS messages coming in and was missing them.
mcmexican I may be pinging you via PM with some questions I had around PalmSMS :)

Stu, maybe its the build 5.2.19170? It is the same build as Hyperdragon, Sirooga and I tried everything to get MMS to work and we could not. From several different network config cabs to manual input to different versions of Arcsoft MMS and no luck. Maybe I am wrong but just my two cents.

Its funny you mentioned this, as I was about to. I was giving the Hyperdragon a run and noticed the MMS issue on it also. I tried all kinds of things and nothing yet.

So i got the MMS to work by installing alex's arcsoft 5.0.31.7 cab to fix, andthen went to setting-->system-->About-->Device ID and changed it to "HTC-8900" and suddenly i can receive MMS message. I verified by sending one from myself to myself, emailing myself to my mms address, and having a friend mms me. I don't know if that will help anyone else but thought i'd share.

When you say you got MMS to work, do you mean just so you can get to the options or that you are able to successfully send and received MMS (from someone else, not ones sent from your phone to your phone)?
I never had any problems with SMS messages, but interesting about changing the Device ID. Although I just checked and the Device ID on v1.1 was set to HTC_Tytn_II and my sms and mms work just fine on that rom (and its 5.2.19170 also, so thats whats really puzzling about this to me. Its not like its a different base rom. But Confused Stu did say he rebuilt v1.2 from the ground up, so maybe something in that process caused this).
Part of me wants to believe the problem has to do with the same thing that broke Arcsoft in the first place on v1.2.
And BTW Confused Stu... I'm fully with you on why MMS is completely seperate like it is. I guess MS just wants to provide a base OS for a PDA device. Its then up to HTC (or whoever) to add on stuff that makes it into a PDA Phone...

I'm sorry, i'll fix the post, i meant that i can send/receive MMS messages not text from other people. I tested that by sending myself and email. I got the options to work by installing the arcsoft cab from alex.

Did you change the regional settings from the default of UK to US? If so, then go to Regional Settings, then the time tab. Click on teh Time Style drop down. Now notice the tiny up and down arrows on the drop down. Click the up one a few times ahnd select h:mm:ss tt .

Well finished flashing and testing MMS here. I'm trying all of the 6.1 ROMS just to see if any of them work. Changing the device name doesn't seem to have any effect in any of the 6.1 ROMS. In say Austinsyncs current ROM I put an ID of blah-blah and I am able to send and recieve MMS just fine. I have attempted changing that ID to the HTC-8900 as people said and to HTC-8500, neither make any difference in ROMS with MMS broken. Some key component of arcsoft MMS is getting broken somewhere during the build process or during the extraction of unwanted programs. I'm barely learning how to cook so I won't be much help on this but I'm doing my best. And between myself and McMex I think we have tried every cab combination out there to get this working.

Yup - that's the boy I started from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365068
What I'm leaning towards at the moment is flashing the HTC ROM again, testing if MMS works on it, then start stripping bits out, flashing after each removal and testing MMS to see if I can identify which step is "breaking" MMS.
Guess I've got a busy weekend coming up. :)

Well I did do that and MMS did not work on the HTC ROM it performed exactly like Hyperdragon and yours did. Actually even the MMS option issue that brings up searching for devices rather than give you MMS options was there. Try it out and let me know what you find.

If its broken in that rom, then maybe just replacing Arcsoft directly before the build will be enough to fix this. So using Alex's or one of the other cabs out there might be enough to drop in and replace what was in this, then rebuild (just a guess and always hoping for an easy fix).
I did look at the sizes of the dlls that make up Arcsoft (in the cabs I have compared to what was in the v1.2 rom when I had it installed) and they appeared very similar (a few differences but nothing major). If I have time, I might try dumping v1.2 and seeing if I can find anything (no promises as I have yet to dump a Kaiser rom).
[EDIT] Hey Confused Stu - Check out Post 27 on the thread for the original rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1882075&postcount=27 But that is the only mentiont of it in that thread. Everyone else claims everything works flawlessly but nobody mentions MMS directly. So not sure if its really broken in the rom, or most people don't use MMS, or what. Anyway, just wanted to point that out. I think replacing Arcsoft MMS with a known working one would be a first step at trying to fix this issue.
My last question would be, was this the same base rom you built v1.1 off of? If so, then thats even more confusing since v1.1 works flawlessly for me with MMS (has from the first day I flashed it, over a month ago).

I'm still hoping for a quick fix as well! If we can find an Arcsoft MMS cab that is definitely working when installed on this ROM, then I can (relatively) easily strip it apart and cook it into the ROM, which should fix it. From looking through the thread I'm not sure if we've found a cab that definitely fixes it?
Rather than dumping the ROM, would it help if I package up my OEM/SYS/ROM folders from my kitchen and get them to you? I can do that tonight, if that's going to help (at work at the moment so shouldn't even be on here!) :)
I built v1.1 from a dump of Sleuth's ROM, which was built off the HTC 3.02 from Tupisdin. For v1.2, I took out the middleman as I was concerned my tweaks were clashing with Sleuth's, so built it straight from Tupisdin's HTC 3.02. This should only be a problem is Sleuth put a fix into his ROM to get MMS working?!

Great job Stu! I just upgraded from your first version to this one and love it. Finally, a rom that had stuff in it! The slim ones are great for some but all this stuff I install anyway so thanks.
I read about all the people having problems with their MMS and I have to say that I haven't had an issue at all. I flashed the rom, did a hard reset after it finished and it worked like a charm. I have sent and received mms messages from my work phone just fine. I did have an issue with receiving them in version 1 but installed shogun's mms fix and everything was great. I doubt anything was left over in the system after the flash, but that might be something to look into.
Hope this helps.

IE never has any history after a reset, phoneAlarm or GPRSmonitor both lose any data info regarding traffic. RSS hub has shown me feeds i've already seen.
I've also noticed there are more than a few games that just don't want to load up.

Running 1.1 for a week. Now I'll probably spend another weekend playing around with 1.2. The wife loves ya.
Is the One Note cab from 2003 or the new 2007? The reason I ask is they don't play well together. I'm running 2007 on my laptop and can't sync even after installing the 2007 cab to the tilt? (picture a head scratching smiley here)

I don't use S2U2 as a rule, but I still had a cab kicking about on my memory card (S2U2-0.99p-WM5) so I just installed it. Installed fine, I can lock and unlock screen in both portrait and landscape. That said, mine isn't Hard-Reset fresh as I'm trying stuff to see if I can get MMS working at all. Hard Resetting now to see if S2U2 still plays nicely afterwards.

Yeah - wife's none too happy with me playing with the ROMs either. ;)
Good question on OneNote, never used it myself but put it in as otherwise my PC prompted me to install it every damn time I syned. The version number in the registry and on the .exe file save 12.0.4518.1055 and the registry entries are stored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\OneNote Mobile\12.0
Checking on the PC, my Office 2007 installation is in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12 where I remember my Office 2003 used to be in Office11 - so I guess the OneNote is 2007 version?
Next time the phone's connected to the PC I'll try making a note and see if I can get it to sync...

Hi everyone. Still working on the MMS issue - I tried the HTC 3.02 ROM and it has the same issues with MMS as my v1.2, so at least it's not something I broke along the way! Currently trying a few ArcsoftMMS cabs and each seems to be working fine but I'll keep testing to see if any make me go WOW!
As identified by Johnk1973, there are a couple of games that I seem to have broken along the way, namely Crosswords and Sudoku. Here's a cab to fix the errors these show:

Hi everyone. Still working on the MMS issue - I tried the HTC 3.02 ROM and it has the same issues with MMS as my v1.2, so at least it's not something I broke along the way! Currently trying a few ArcsoftMMS cabs and each seems to be working fine but I'll keep testing to see if any make me go WOW!
Thanks.
I think I told you it was the build not you there Chief;)

hello again Stu,
i have to say i wanted to cook my own ROM strating from your Vista 1.1, but your 1.2 ROM is so.. WOW, i dont need any other ROM. It just works flawless, until now, and the changes from 1.1 to 1.2 are really apreciated. I love the ROM and hope to keep it long time from now.
up to now i didnt find any major flaws, there is just the old one that the messages, emails, etc, when opened, they show the end of the message, not the beginning, most probably after activating the D-pad in Iexplore, as i read in some older posts.
other than that, i wouldnt need the tomtom software, since it is not that great in my country, as well as some of the games, which i dont particularly like. but these are just minor details. not even the old problem i used to have, the phone app bug seems not to be there.
congrats on your ROM!!!

I have been running this ROM for a while now and really love it. I have not upgraded to 1.2 yet I plan on doing this weekend. I have a question about TomTom. I have not used it before but I was playing with it this afternoon.
I this a pay for app? Does anyone know a good site to learn more about it?
thanks

Tomtom.com has a lot of the information.
The software is a free but the maps you have to pay for. I remember getting one free map from setting up Tomtom but I'm not sure if they still do that.

Hi All,
I upgraded yesterday from v1.1 to v1.2. I am now having a problem with e-mail. I have one exchange account syncing thru activity sync and one POP3 account syncing thru the normal e-mail program.
I am having a problem with the e-mail hanging with the POP3 account. When it does, I can't exit the viewer, move between e-mail accounts, and I have to do a softrest the phone. I am also see a problem with moving around with the d-ring.
I have done one hard reset but this didn't seem to help the problem.
I am in the US running on AT&T Tilt with Radio 1.64.06.04.
It also seems that the d-ring is having problems in other places also. I just tried to use it to get to the device info screen and couldn't.
is anyone else seeing these type of problems? Does anyone have any ideas on things to try to correct them?
thanks

The d-pad setting can be changed using Kaiser Tweak (found under programs -> tools) look under the pocketIE settings and change the D-Pad scroll nav to disabled. This will probably cure it.
Your POP3 problem, is it actually downloading the email ok, and its when you are viewing your email that you're getting the hangs, or is it when downloading? What settings are you using? i.e. html, 20k limit etc?

Hi Ghostie,
thanks for the response. I will change the d-ring setting and see if it helps. Do you know if this changed between releases?
My POP3 account does download e-mail. It just locks up, meaning I can't enter the mail viewer at all. I highlight the messages line from the today screen and press the center key on the d-ring. Nothing happens. I can move up and down on screen and use other apps. I can't not get into the mail app until I do a soft reset.
I am thinking about starting over and reflashing the phone. Do you think this might help?
thanks

I know its a tedious process, but i personally think its always worth reflash (and of course hard resetting once flashed) when we get weird issues like this. I had a bad flash last week where i lost the start button icon and battery status would never stay on the today screen. I re-downloaded from rapidshare, reflashed and not a problem this time. Also, I'm sync'ing to pop3 (my personal email) and exchange thru active sync (my work email) so unless i'm being very lucky here it does seem to work.

Hi All,
I downloaded a new file and re-flashed. I then Hard Reset the phone. I setup my e-mail. My exchange seems to work just fine. It took 14 minutes to sync my POP3 mail.
Now the screen goes blank and I can't get it back with out a soft reset. This is new. Is anyone else having this problem?

I'm really sorry Billf, but I've never experienced any of the problems you're having. A couple of people had the phone app freezing in v1.1, but they've reported that this was fixed after flashing with v1.2. I've also synced to my two POP3 accounts (different ISPs) and both do a full send/receive in under a minute.

The lights are still on, I hear messages thru my headset, and when I slide out the keyboard, it lights up.
the lockup just happened for a second time while I on the phone. It seems to only happen while I am talking to on the phone.
Any ideas on what I can do?

ok, have you installed anything or made any customisations (excuse my spelling, its late) since you flashed and hard reset post flash? Used kaiser tweak to change anything? Have you tried to use kaiser tweak to make the backlight stay on during calls? Does the lock up happen if you do change that setting in kaiser tweak?

I have done the following to the phone since the hard reset: set the owner, set the device ID, remove the attachments dir from my Storage card, setup Active Sync to sync to exchange, setup my POP3 account, change mail setting to keep attachments on storage card, and not to delete e-mail from server, set regional setting to US, set in phone options to auto update time zone, used PIMbackup to report call logs, speed dial, Palm001 file, and IE favs, setup BT headset, installed Theadersms, tested TOMTOM and use USB to snyc to PC.
I kept a log.
I have not used kaiser tweak yet but I am willing to try anything at this point.
Also, my phone looked up without being on the phone now.
thanks for all the help

Sorry, but cabs won't get you from v1.1 to v1.2. Confused Stu started with a whole new base for v1.2. In an earlier post he said that v1.1 was based off of Sleuth's rom. v1.2 he went to the original rom. So there is no way to povide cabs to try to reproduce where you are hitting problems.
If you have the time, what I would suggest you do is to hard reset, flash v1.2, hard reset again, then try to run the rom as is without doing anything else to it and see if the problems happen. If they do, then there is something about this rom and your phone. I ran v1.2 for 24 hours and my only issue I had was the MMS issue that I recall. Many others are running this rom with no major issues like you are describing (I'm not doubting you. Believe me on the Wizard, I would put out a rom that worked for most people, but a few just couldn't get it to work for whatever reason).
Good luck!
(Trying to make time to look into the MMS stuff, but couldn't do it this past weekend or so far this week).

Cool. I still haven't figured out the Kaiser with how a flash and a hard reset works, but I know that when I went from v1.1 to v1.2 and back to v1.1 (and then a full restore) I still had some things from v1.2 on my phone. Last night I did a Clear Storage and noticed it now has an option to delete everything from NAND. I'm probably going to do that first from now on and see if that truely removes things so you start completely clean.
I am having a problem with TomTom. I get an error when I try to connect to the TomTom server to check for updates or download traffic info. I have donwloaded the "remove hidden proxey cab and installed it, but didn't help. is there anything else you would recommend for me to try?
Last night I didn't let the Network Configuator run after redoing the v1.1 rom (so when it asked to do the AT&T settings I told it no, and then told it to disable the configurator). I then just installed the attached cab and did the remove hidden proxy and rebooted. After doing this, WeatherPanel now seems to work for me (where I could never get it to work with Slueth's, Mobile Vista 1.1 or Mobile Vista 1.2). Its been only about 12 hours, but looking very promising. This may or may not fix the TomTom issue you are seeing. (NOTE: If you use this method, the CAB only sets up Cingular GPRS and MEdiaNet. It does NOT setup isp.cingular. Personally I think this is a good thing as it means I can move back to a MEdiaNet plan ($20 per month) and drop the PDA Connect plan ($40 per month). But I'm still testing. FWIW: This is more like how I always had my 8125 (Wizard) setup, but it hadn't worked for me well on the Tilt until now. But I think I had let the Network Config run each time before. As always, YMMV.

I can give it try but it will be a few days before I have the time. Does IE still work with the isp.cingular setup? Also, would you attach the CAB for remove the hidden proxy. I have one but after I installed last night and tried TomTom by phone started acting up and I had to do a hard reset. I want to make sure I have a good CAB.

I personally don't notice a difference between using isp.cingular and wap.cingular. My understanding is wap.cingular is behind their NAT appliance where isp.cingular isn't. In all of the stuff that I've done, it seems to work just the same.
BTW: I forgot the cab file after posting that last night. I just updated that post with the cab file. Attached to this post is the remove and restore hidden proxy cabs that I have and use (I think I got them from Dutty's or p1tater's CAB repository).

Most of the games I got from Alex's excellent kitchen (already in OEM format) or as stand-alone .exe files on freeware sites (again, no cab to install). I'll give a shot to making them into cabs and post them on here ASAP. No promises, but I'll try!

I've run through the games in my kitchen (including the two that will be in v1.3 when it's finally ready) and put them into .cabs for the ones I didn't have cabs kicking around for. I can't test them, I'm afraid as I've already got them installed in my ROM, but they should work fine.
They're in my 4shared site that I've just finished setting up:

I bug I am having is when I click on contacts the contacts just don't open. If I reset it will open the first time and then the same problem occurs.
I dont know if it is this ROM or a 6.1 issue in general as this is my first.
Any help is appreciated.
Once again thank you Confused Stu for the ROM
I figured out the problem and it is a program conflict. I reflashed and the contacts were working but as soon as I installed EYRON (a language support program) it stopped working again. Removing the program fixed it again.
It is too bad as I paid almost $200 for the program.
I am posting this in case anyone else sees the same issue and in cae anyone has suggestions as to why the conflict is occuring.

Stu,
Excellent ROM! I've had a few, from various artists, but this is by far my favorite. I saw that you have v1.3 out now but I think I'll wait a bit until you get the video phone thing working.
Question... is there some way to "turn on" the weather app or is that something specific to ROMs with HTC Home included? I've searched this site up and down for a weather cab to install on your ROM but couldn't find one so I figured I would ask.
Thanks!

The weather app you are talking about is part of HTC Home, so you will either need to find a cab to install it, or find another weather app. Personally I can't stand HTC Home (for many reasons). Use WeatherPanel (free) or SBSH's PocketWeather (not free) instead and look for skins to make it fit for what you want. They are MUCH better apps, and do so much more (if weather is really all you are wanting out of HTC Home).
Storyr over in the PPCgeeks.com forum has a bunch of skins for Weatherpanel (and he has more skins over in the SBSH forums for PocketWeather). My favorite at the moment is the Phatfinger skin on WeatherPanel. There is also a WeatherPanel skin that looks like HTC Home (kind of) that you might be interested in (google for something like WeatherPanel Touch theme htc home and you should find it in a weatherpanel specific forum (sorry don't ahve the link right now or time to look it up).

mfrazzz,
Thanks for the excellent information. I downloaded WeatherPanel from here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=75926&postcount=2 and an awesome theme for it here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=9606. The Phat Phinger them allows me to adjust the height, width, look and feel of WeatherPanel so that Stu's excellent "Mobile Vista" 1.2 ROM I have installed keeps it's clean and uncluttered look. I'll see if I can figure out a way to take a screenshot and post it if I can. Thanks again!
Zip File with screenshots (hopefully this works). I couldn't upload them directly to my post because the files are a bit bigger than allowed and I can't figure out how to reduce them just yet.

OOoooo! That looks cool. I think I might be having a play with that as soon as I get some freetime.
Thanks for that NotSatch, always nice to see a piece of software someone's enthusiastic about. :)

Yeah, WeatherPanel is cool and an amazing app. Here's a thread I posted a long time ago (needs to be updated again with the newer files you need to run WP).

This shows the Chameleon skin which is also very nice. I've now switched to using Phatfinger, but still like the compactness of Chameleon.
Sorry, not meaning to turn this into a WP thread ;)

...for posting all those game CABs in one place. Dutty never cooks games in and I never have the time to go hunting around for the best ones (although I did find Amiga's awesome "Invasion").
So if you're calling this one "Mobile Vista," out of curiosity, why haven't you installed whatever program it is that makes your toolbar look like the Vista toolbar... with the Vista-style start button?
I can't remember the name of the program...

I've seen a few people come out with some Wisbar skins that make your screen look like Vista, but I'm pretty sure Wisbar isn't free - hence wouldn't be allowed to put it in. Good suggestion though, thank you. :)
