Hi all,
I've tried all 6.1 roms and have found that Active Sync refuses to sync via 3G wirelessly with Exchange Server 2003.
I did:
Uncheck proxy.
Reloaded local telecomm settings
tried sync cal, contacts, individually with no go.
Did hard reset all roms after flash
Any comments/ suggestions would be appreciated.
Many thanks.

Works fine for me, on every single WM6.1 ROM I have tried.
There must be something wrong with your specific config.

I have tried at least 5 different 6.1 ROM's and they have all synced with our Exchange 2003 cluster over 3G.

might be useful if you gave us more details.
Such as, does it sync over wireless lan, or activesync or anything.
Does it give an error code of any sort ?

If you have not figured this out already.. this may resolve the issue
You need to disable the proxy:
go to Settings --> Connections --> Connections --> Advanced (tab at bottom of the page) --> Select Networks.
Change the network from 'My ISP' to 'MEdia Net', then click Edit. Now you should have the Proxy tab where you can disable it.

I disabled proxy server. It connects via active sync (3G) then says Synchronizing folder....Looking for changes.....then it says "attention required" Sync could not be completed. If condition persists try deleting then re-creating....view support code ...0x8503001C

Go under your settings after setting up everything normally, and uncheck tasks from the things that will be sync'd.
Worked for me.

any flavor of the 6.1 works on me also. can you check if your exchange account has mailbox size limitations. i once encountered your scenario and it was caused by my mailbox size limitation.
if this is the case either request that your mailbox limitation be increased or archive your server data on a pst located in your local cmputer.
just a thought.

Actually I'm having an issue when trying to sync my Kaiser with WM 6.1 with two different computers: If I set up the active sync connection on the second computer, syncing on the first computer will always fail until I reestablish the connection. If I do this, syncing on the second computer will fail.
Is this going to be fixed in the final WM 6.1 version?

I assume you had this working on the same phone, same Exchange server but with WM6?
For OTA, are you able to browse (using PIE) to https://your-activesync-public-server-name/oma ? (or http if you're not using SSL)
Internally on your LAN are you able to browse on your PC AND phone, to http://your-activesync-private-server-name/oma ? (or https if you're not using SSL internally as well)
Either way, it works perfectly fine for me using WM6.1...

I had the same problem with my activesync, my work exchange is 2003 as well. It was having a lot of problems on the initial sync so i connected to my wifi and i think because of just how much stuff i synced it helped. Once the initial sync was completed I have problems from time to time with it not being able to connect and a soft reset does the trick. I was getting the same exact support code you were as well.

That error code indicates a corrupt calendar or contact entry. Any device would fail regardless of WM5 - WM6.1. You can change your setting so that it does not sync calendar and contacts to see which it is. Then you can use a process of elimination to find out which entry is the bad one and delete it from the message store.

I had that same error code before and it wasnt a corrupt Calendar entry, it was a huge one because it had a couple file attachments. If i did my initial setup in a 3G area or on WiFi it worked fine.

That's a quit unusual errornumber. I work a lot with Exchange and had to debug active sync problems very often. Here you can find a quite usful list of errornumbers, their meaning and possible solutions: http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/exchange_errors.php
The error you get itn't on the list unfortunately. Is a wired sync possible?

Hi all,
Thank you for your comments.
I switched back to original 6.0 rom & it syncs perfectly. How come this only occurs with the 6.1 roms?
I did try unchecking calender but no go

I had this problem. It took me hours to figure out what was going on.
I resolved it by syncing the phone with the usb cable. Right click on exchange server go settings. delete the server. Then from my device i setup a new exchange connection. this worked for me. Although my login info had not changed from 6.0 to 6.1, i still had to delete and create a new conection in active sync.

i had this exact same problem with exchange and a corrupted contact. I went though found the last contact i added delete it and it synced just fine, another thing you can do is backup your contacts in outlook delete them all, and you should sync just fine, then import your contacts again, or you can move them to a public folder or something. it happens sometimes, a contact, calendar, or task gets corrupted.

Thanks for the comments all. But I don't understand this. If one of my contacts/calender/tasks is corrupt & won't sync via 3G on ActiveSync on Windows 6.1....How come Windows 6.0 syncs perfectly fine?

I had a similar issue on Exchange 2007 SP1. The strange thing is that Dutty's ROMs wouldn't sync (I got a slightly different error code relating to HTML), but Sleuth's and NoThrills (which I'm running now) both worked fine for me.
You might try NoThrills as it's a VERY pared down ROM and it could be that some of the customizations/tweaks that Dutty does are causing the issue. Finally, you might try a shipping ROM from either HTC or AT&T to see if they work correctly on your phone.
Good luck!

The behavior you're seeing is pretty much what I get since I've upgrade to WM6.1
I haven't done horough testing, but it definitely makes my device rather useless before the error gets fixed ]:(
I wish I knew more, I am on the issue (currently by trying new ROMs, though I need a working PDA these next few days), but time is the main problem here.
Maybe somebody knows more about the issue and can enlight us on it?

Well let's wait and see ...until then I'm stuck on 6.0
The question is - how come 6.0 syncs flawlessly yet 6.1 doesn't?

Have similar results. The Hybrid 6.1 rom from Dutty worked after I created the sync from the pc on my work with a direct connection to exchange and configuring it to connect through webmail. After that no probs with gprs syncing. Now I upgraded to latest Dutty Rom. Created the same sync on my work pc but GPRs sync not working anymore.... Only the direct USB connection works on my Work pc but it's configured with the webmail settings...

make sure that you set the time, the date and the location correctly. And don’t add any software (some software refuse the sync) .

Well, it must be something with certificates and configuring activesync while kaiser is connected to the pc in the network where the exchange server resides. Because now i recreated the activesync and everythin works. Had an error about certificates in activesync on my work pc but I know for sure my certificate on my kaiser is right. So ignored the error and created the relationship. No problems anymore...
Hope it helps anyone...

I'm currently using MobileVista 1.3, which seems to work fine.

Had the same problem, fixed it this way:
I switched of the phone function, connected the phone
with a sync cable and connected as a guest through activesync. Performed
full sync, disconnected and reactivated the phone function. Since then the
sync runs fine. :D

Make no mistake. This IS a data issue. I bumped into this problem a couple of years ago when moving from WM2003SE to WM5. If you have a lot of contacts/calendar records/tasks, this can be problematic, as pulling all of the data out of your Contacts/Calendar/Tasks folders, putting them into subfolders (that don't sync) and then synching. and adding the records back in one at a time until things crap out and you can fix/recreate the corrupted record is a PITA.
I've talked with Level 2 and 3 Support Engineers from Microsoft on this and other OTA synching issues that I covered in some technical articlese I did for pocketnow.com a few years back; and they have NO WAY of isolating the bad records. There is NO tool that can scan individual records and figure out which is the nasty one and which ones are good; BUT that is the process to use.
Exchange Admins might have a tool that can scan your information store for corruption, but I don't know how likely it is that that tool will fix the problem, as those tools don't scan individual records. They scan the entire information store.
There are any number of causes for this corruption. Weak signal, some sort of burp during a sync, problems on the server itself...who knows. I doubt you did anything wrong. This is something that just happens some times.
The process to correct this is long, its frustrating, and its time consuming; but again, make no mistake. There IS some kind of corruption in your information store that is causing this problem. If it doesn't cause problems now (your work around was to go back to a WM6 ROM) then it will cause problems for you later when you try to go to WM6.1 again.
Didn't mean to rain on your parade. I hope this helps!

Exactly, how do you add the ssl cert to your phone? I'm having the same problem since switching from 6.0 tp 6.1. Can't sync with exchange now. I know the problem is the cert. Any help?

Again, you likely have corruption in your information store. You can have your exchange admin scan your mailbox for corruption and that may fix it; but its likely just a couple of records that are bad that are causing the problem. You're likely going to have to run through the process I mentioned on the previous page in order to remove the bad records. Contacts sync first, so I would start there, AFTER you have your admin scan for corruption and fix your mailbox.
Hope this helps!

I've got a similar problem with my Tytn2...
Updated the rom to the official HTC 6.1 NL rom, but ever since i can't use pushmail.
Setting up the exchange server settings in active sync doesn't help, neither does setting it up using Windows Mobile Device Center for Vista.
The adress used for OWA works like a charm using any browser, although i get a SSL warning message that i have to acknowledge before i can use OWA. But it has been like that for as long as i can remember.
Never got an error message about the certificate´s on WM6, but now with 6.1 and using WM device center on Vista i get a Sync Error stating that my certificate is invalid. But... I never installed any!!
Has WM6.1 become more stringent about certificates?
Anyways, typing the email address is not a problem, it becomes weird when i type the server adress... I usually type https://mail.domainname.com/exchange as OWA adress, so i entered that exact adress in the mobile. Editing the settings when sync failed i see that it was automatically changed back into mail.domainname.com.... Weird!!!
I don't get errormessages like some others. I just simply don't see anything happening. Whereas before (under 6.0) the sync was easy.
Any hints and tips are more then welcome!

I never had a problem with 2003, but when we moved to 2007 I got an error and my Tilt would not sync. Our Exchange admins moved me to a group with a different set of policies and everything works now. Something is just a bit different in 6.1 that causes the "Remote Wipe" functionallity to cause the error when syncing to WM6.1

I have seen this activesync error before, twice it was corruption, one was a corrupt SD card and another was a corrupt email that it kept getting caught on. Have your admin turn on debugging verbosely for activesync, try to sync, and see where the problem gets stuck on.
Try setting activesync to ONLY sync calendar.... if error, then ONLY mail, if error, ONLY tasks... etc. see if you can get one that works, or narrow it to one that doesn't.
You can also try dumping your whole mailbox to a pst, start with a fresh mailbox, and see if you get any errors.... a lot of work, but it will eliminate the possibility of the ROM being the culprit.
I have several types of phones on 6.0 and 6.1 syncing with both Exch 2003 and 2007. i think it's either your device configuration, SD card, or something in your mailbox.
