what is the difference between these roms and the other roms...for example kavana..or the roms that you have do before?

3rd April 2008, 02:24 AM
1. So is this essentially v7 with a different theme?

2. What exactly is vanilla, do you just mean using that color a lot?

3. If I'm on v6 right now, is there any way I can get 3) fixed t9 resetting on reboot without flashing v7?

Looking forward to the screenies, and you're awesome.

i am relaxed. i didn't know he hadn't uploaded them. i saw the "heres the one without CHome link:" without a link and thought something happened is all.

sheesh... ask a perfectly reasonable question...

anyway... there now, so all is good. thanks ricky!!!

Umm. why on the second one is there more memory free with chome and how is there 43.75MB of storage memory total , but there's 55.41MB free? i think you made a boo-boo

I feel like I have a Wizard again. Flashing roms almost daily. Thanks for all your hard work Ricky. I will try this one tonight.

Profezza
3rd April 2008, 05:17 AM
CHome is "Carousel Home Screen"

The shiny new animated screens in WM 6.1 are powered by a new application framework. The home screen layout "Sliding Panel" is the most popular example of CHome featured in all the new ROMs.

I think.

So what is the process to upgrade. Just download the file and run it once you are connected through activesync? I would be upgrading from Tmobile branded WM6 for the dash.

Is this the latest & greatest of all the WM6.1 ROMs fixing up all the bugs?

i think ricky must explain something :) :
what exactly is schome
what the f... is vannila

and some shots about new extras will be helpful too

I don't think that rick has to explain the OBVIOUS in a DEVELOPER'S FORUM.
HOFO is for noobs, CHOME and VANILLA rom are well knows in developer's community.

WWW.HOWARDFORUMS.COM or a simple GOOGLE search will be the best solution!

from SCIENTIFC AMERICAN: google search doesn't affect sex! :D

How many peoples in this forum is actual developers? :)
I think here is just OLDSAP Kavana ricky and maybe 2-3 others. All other people are just stupid users like me.
I don't think when new version of cooked rom is here everybody must go to search google to see what is the diference. Some 2-3 line explanation will be very helpful - you see 2 pages with the same question :).

And in post just long as your last, you will be able to give answers, coz I think many guyz here (not in any community/crew or whatever) want to now this answers - you can answer "google it" on every single question here - this is not the point of the forum I think :).

EDIT:
P.S. I testing new ROM now. I will be post some comments about it later..

3rd April 2008, 08:37 AM
Great ROM (I'm generally a minimalist), but I really miss the office apps (Word/Excel/OneNote/Foxit), and aren't they all (except for Foxit) part of the "vanilla" WM6 anyway?

Could you make a ROM that's exactly the same but with Office added back in?

linh1987
3rd April 2008, 08:45 AM
Vanilla is... something like bare bones OS with almost no extra applications installed... can't people guess with all the software stripped?

inspron
3rd April 2008, 08:58 AM
After I downloaded "Programs" should I copy each content to their corresponding folders and reboot? I tried that with WM5storage but it didnt show up. Some of those require me to copy a ton of files to the "Windows" directory and I dont want to screw up. Could someone help with this?

inspron

This V8 version is the same as V7 with a lot of the optional software removed? = Vanilla. Or are there also other bug fixes since V7?

I'm trying to find the best "complete" version to install.

I have seen this list else where but a lot of these features are not in this V8, are they on the older V7?

Rick, maybe I get a bit off topic here, but here it goes:

Is it possible to make a cab or something to add the CHome to windows mobile 6?

I´m using your v5 ROM and it´s doing great, but I´m thinking about getting back to some wm6 ROM because of the keyboard/keymap problems that I can´t seem to get around, like the Sym not functioning on some data fields of some apps (Splash Money, for instance) and the numeric pad issues (0, z/*, a/#, etc) ... (the american keymap solution doesn´t suit me because i live in Brasil, hence I´m a native portuguese speaker/writer/reader)...

Anyways, if not possible to make it by installer, can you make like a tutorial on how to install the CHome on wm6?

Thanks in advance and keep up the great work! :D

Cheers.

i'm confused on the programs....

i got the zip and extracted and copied the .css files for the proggies i wanted into my temp dir and then selected them (from the phone) and a shortcut was created... but in the first post it says to copy the windows files to the /windows dir and the application data files to the /application data dir.

i don't see these files, so i guess i'm not understanding the procedure for installing these proggies.

Well, I ran this ROM all day, and its great..

Only issue is the keyboard mapping so far, which is easy to fix. And of course you need to setup the network.

Everyone that's asking stupid questions like "what's vanilla", "what's chome", etc...

Do you not Read? Ricky posted the answer to the vanilla questions here on THIS THREAD and 2 people still asked after that.

this IS a developer's forum. n00bs are treated pretty well here considering that. BUT come ON people. Read the THREAD you're on to check and see if your questions have already been answered or not. Search the whole forum...and if that doesn't work - search Google.

If you can't find the answer after doing all that - THEN ask your question. Forums aren't like chat rooms. Don't just ask a question because you want a "quick" answer.

Lazy people (and ignorant peepz) get negative responses back - remember that!

Thanks to Ricky and Kavana, and ALL who continue to provide us with great ROMS and stuff - they spend their personal time to make OUR phones better and charge ZERO.

Keep it up! You guys ROCK!

Ricky (or anyone using his ROM) are you able to tether your phone and computer for internet access.

I have a T-mobile Dash, I have installed the 080330 and the new keymap. I have gone through the autodetection for connection setup, and can browse the web etc.

my issue now is tethering my laptop. I connect the phone to laptop, run Internet sharing, it connects, the laptop gets an IP, but the status is "Waiting for network".

Is this a known issue, and is there a fix?

I have posted this in a couple of places, hoping someone with an answer will see the question.

My choices (in the Internet Sharing window) are T-Mobile Data, T-Mobile MMS and T-MobileWModem Link. These were generated with the Connection Setup Wizard after the Flashing of the ROM.

thanks for taking an awesome rom (thanks kavana) and making so many awesome variations of it. its cool to have a selection to choose from. you have made owning this phone a whole lot more fun. keep up the awesome work (if we can all be so lucky) and let me know if you need anything. again...thank you. it seems like a lot of your work has gone unappreciated. so i believe im speaking on behalf of anyone that has used yours/kavanas roms.

just out of curiosity, what rom do you run? (i realize you cook/test them all etc..but for everyday use what do you run?)

Hi Rickwyatt! Thank you for creating an awesome ROM!

I would love to try it, but am worried that if I do something wrong I will brick my phone. Problem is, the phone is an XDA Cosmo, and from what I know, there is no original ROM image to reflash onto it, should something go wrong. What would you recommend I do?

Hi Rickwyatt! Thank you for creating an awesome ROM!

I would love to try it, but am worried that if I do something wrong I will brick my phone. Problem is, the phone is an XDA Cosmo, and from what I know, there is no original ROM image to reflash onto it, should something go wrong. What would you recommend I do?

Thanks once again ;)

I have flash my phone with all versions of Rickwyatt and Kavana too, i only recomend you stop Antivirus, stop all backgrounds programs, like Anydvd, Alcohol and other software, to prevent a reboot of the pc; the process its simple and effective.

Thanks for this ROM!
Two small problems though... since I installed it the NAME DISPLAY service from my provider stoped working, and also it seems to always be on "push email mode" (or whatever that's called)... every time I look at my phone the "E" icon for EDGE network being in use is on! That is a problem for me beacuse i don't have an unlimited plan!

Is there any fix for these two things?

Thanks in advance!

Just a plain "E" means edge is available, but not that the phone is necessarily using it. The signal bars plus a little "E" (or "G" for GPRS) mean that the data connection is actually in use. Which one are you seeing?

The signal bar + the little "E". It is using the connection!
