Hey all , I just picked up a S620 on the Rogers network and I was wondering a few things.

1. It currently has WM5 installed - will WM6 increase the speed of the device?

2. When I have apps or screen open - will using the back white arrow close the screens to elimiate memory usage of the phone.

I've just noticed it laggs a bit - still a great phone from what I have seen - but would be great to see what I can do to help it speed up a bit if possible.

Any ideas?

I think just abou everyone here would recommend installing ricky's remade Kavana 6.1 rom, its the single best upgrade to the Excalibur platform thus far.
Speeeeed is increased tremendously and the slick homescreens don't hurt either. If I were you I would start by thorougly reading through this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=378608) thread.
Good luck, and welcome!

pressing the back button will not close the application just take you to the previous screen.

Be prepared for a lot of work in getting Ricky's rom to work the way you want to, it's not very intuitive but after you get it set up it does work much much smoother than the official 5.0/6.0 rom, not to mention that it looks much nicer too.

saber - so far so good with Ricks rom's!

Another question - how can I be sure 100% that my provider won't charge me for any usage over my regular talking plan?

I asked Rogers to place a ban on my Data Signal to avoid getting dinged extra for data/internet charges.

Is there a way I can check in my phone to make sure I have disabled the use of the Rogers Data Network?

Hey Mikey - thanks man - I had gone in and removed them all out of the GPRS Section.

On my actual device - would I see an icon along the top IF I were using GPRS / Data from the Rogers network?

depending on the provider...yes and no. If you removed the settings though, you should be fine

In GPRS Settings I see:

1. GPRS Authenticiation
2. GPRS Attatch and Detach .. when i go into this one I put Disconnect and Uncheck Both Boxes.

In my GPRS all i see is :

1. New ....

so nothing in there.
