Hi
I'm new in this forum. I bought an ipaq214 2 months ago. Today it got freezed (i don't know why) I think I'll have to do an hard reset. So I thought would be great to upgrade the operating system to a new version. Now I've WM6 classic. I've never done this before so I don't know which ROM is good for my palm and which not and I don't know how to do it (I went through some wizards but they were related to hx2000 series).
Can someone help me or at least give me some link that can explain me things?
Thanks
Dadopap
Sorry, but the Ipaq 214 does not have any updated ROMs for it. If you did manage to burn one of these, you'd end up with a doorstop !
Ask questions about the 214 here http://forum.brighthand.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1333
I have one and it seems OK so far. I still like my 4700 and my 2750 though!

Hi,
I don't have this problem. My explorer remember all settings.
However, change registry from
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software\Microsoft \Internet Explorer\Main]
"ZoomSetting"=dword :00000002
to
"ZoomSetting"=dword :00000000
Thx Tommy, i've done and played around with registry settings, but ie still forgets the settings and back to default settings. Although I can see the smallest option has been checked when I reopen it, but the font is medium. It seems like IE not realized that the option has been selected and i've to reselect it to make it work. Ie forgets the 'one column' setting too at view menu. The problem is same like that 'smallest option'. Hmmm, weird... Btw, i'm using ReenSoft PIE Plus v2.2 as a plug-in with PIE. Can it be the problem? Thanks in advance.

I think that ReenSoft PIE Plus is your problem, because without it IE works good :)

Hi Tom, sorry just back from hospital yesterday.. I've uninstalled PIE Plus, but that's not make any differences. IE still forgets.. Btw, my PDA is going very crazy now. Dunno why, the clock will change every 1 second. For example : from 01:56 to 14:45 to 02:10 to 19:11 to 22:36, and so on until now... OMG! This is very annoying. Is there any way to stop this crazy thing?
Thank you very much.

OK, I was folowing this forum for a while then due to my duties I was out for a little bit itme.
I'm asking ifsomebody can tell me what packages are coming in standard WM6.1 edition.
If I want some package to be out is it possible to do it.
Also does this version work good, is it OK, and there is no chance of bricking my pda.
Also, explanation says that w should run HPRUU.exe
After that to do some reset. There is no explanation should we take off the base our PDA or what??? I think there should be removed PDA after startind EXE file and after finishing. Then to do reset, right ????
With regards,

With regards,
I didn't understand if you're asking or supposing :P .
If you follow the rules to upgrade , the possibility to brick your device is very low . However , there is a chance to do that . Anyway , you can mostly bring it back to life .
To upgrade , you have to connect to your pc with activesync and your cradle/cable in the connection switch position , not in the charge one , then run hpruu , and KEEP your device attached until the process finishes .
Note that you should have your battery at full capacity prior to do that .
Then , after it finishes , tommy says to clean resset and then hard reset your device . to do that you can take it off the cradle . I always used the connection cable and never had problems .
Please remember to close all running programs , antivirus , firewalls , to minimize problems .
Goodbye :)

Tommy , I've upgraded my hx2750 with your rom .
First of all I wanna thank you for your work and support and for this great and fast rom . While the pdaviet one has some wifi issues , this one hasn't .
I've however found some little things I'd like to point at , for MY device .
1 ) I've some problems using tomtom , with the bluetooth stack ( lacking memory thing ) . To avoid that , once installed tomtom , one has to rename the btcoreif.dll file in device\windows . After a reset there should be no problem ( or no visible one )
I've found that sometimes the bt connection isn't self-activated from the program , however this might be a tomtom's problem .
2) the little wifi icon on the right does work , anyway , the wifi icon found in the menu opened using the task button doesn't work .
3) some issues with the task button , not always working for me ( the button just works fine ...eheh )
4) incompatibility with spb pocket plus , when assigning the close button . This could be related to the task manager at the 3rd point .
5) some wifi programs ( like wifi radar ) just "eradicate" the wifi manager :| ( the found new connection thing , and the choose net thing )
I hope to have remembered all . Anyway , thanks again .

I posted this intentionally also in the thread below, because both threads adress the same problem. So please, don't be cross with me
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329079
Well...I've got an hx2490 (english language) and i am trying to update from WM5 to WM6.
I tried all existing version of Roms and HPRUU.
My actual version is WM5 and 1.00.00.H and i was able to find out that SP42408 is a working version of the HP-RUU utility which my Ipaq likes.
SP42402 and SP33003 don't work.
But a lot is unanswered.
Since the HP Website is a total mess, here is what i found out myself about my hx2490 :
Pre-BL Mode is:
Contacts + Itask + Reset
And it doesn't go to a complete white screen, it is the same screen i see when i do a soft reset with my pen. But it says Pre-BL mode.
E-Boot Mode is:
Contacts + inbox (Email) at the same time (being pushed when in Pre-BL mode)
Battery of:
If i push Calendar + Itask + Reset (2-4seconds) i hear a click and the battery
is switched off. It has to be switched on the same way.
(so no hard reset here).
A proper hard reset (Formatting PS) is done this way:
Calendar (press+hold) + Power (press + Hold) +Email (Press + Hold) + Reset (6 seconds) + Release calendar + release email + release power + release Reset (Answer of HP support) (don't know if it can be achieved easier.. but this procedure works)
I use windows Xp prof and Activesync 4.5
I realised the the SKU error messages are related to the different language versions of the "HPRUUxxx.dll" file, where xxx stands for ENG, GER, JPN,RUS or
else. These can be fixed with proper language files and entries n the ini file.
Here my questions!
1. Since the SP32408 HP-RUU sets the IPAQ alone in correct Eboot mode,
is there a difference when i do it manually? Without doing so, i was able to flash the Ipaq from 1.00.00.H to L and back.
But when i try like said (taking tommys WM6 image and renaming it while flashing), HP-RUU crashes or i get the "digital sign mismatch" message on the ipaq.
2. When using tommy_adsl's setup (uncompressed directory and using as is, i also get that message, and on the PC i get the message
" RUUclientdevice.dll could not initialize the device"
Did i overlook something here regarding this?
The HPRUU utility msut be ok and the "Auto Flash mode" also, because like said i was able to flash down- and upwards.
The "Digital Sign mismatch" error seems to be a result of information in the wm6 image file, and the HPRUU utility.
I tried almost all versions in all combinations....Any ideas?
Sigh!

hello, I'm using hx2750.
(originally hx2755, It's another modelname for america,
anyway it's same as 2750, as I heard.)
what I want to notify is just for these users:
1) using genuine WM5 rom from HP, w/o any ROM-update after purchase
2) using asian ROM (if the device is using english ROM, there's
no error caused by language limitation, so it's needless.. I guess.)
3) and if you attempted to update ROM through 'change' filename.nbf and
just got 'digital sign mismatch'
4) and your iPAQ is restrained by terrible EBoot 1.00.01
the *bugging, making me crazy* Bootloader always denied any update
attempts.
there's my solution. (I'm using Korean ROM.)
1) downgrade w/ 2003 ROM attached w/genuine HP WM5 CD.
(I attempted w/ 2003 ROM from HP site, but won't work at all. only
this ROM can be recovered to 2003 from WM5..)
2) and upgrade to lastest 2003 ROM from HP site.
3) and finally, your iPAQ will accept WM6 or any other ROM images.
I just wanted to adjust paging pool to make effective use of 128meg RAM,
but, *bugging*bootloader.... denied the edited ROM.
but I finally won the bootloader and flashed WM6!
If it's repetition, I'm sorry, but a question or solution for this situation
is not available, so I post this reply to the thread.
thanks for everybody related w/ WM6 ROM developing.

Thanks Tom, the constantly changing clock prob solved after hard and clean reset. Btw, this prob occured after restore using spb backup (but dunno if that is the real trigger or not). Just wanna ask something.. Will hard reset format the ipaq file store too? Because i'm afraid that my old files (when i'm using wm2003se) are not deleted since now (WM 06) i cannot see ipaq file store folder anymore and make it sure to be clean. And related to that question, : my ipaq hx2750 has 128 MB RAM and 128 MB ROM but at WM 06 memory management it stated that :
Memory :
Storage :
Total : 74.29 MB
Program :
Total : 117.56 MB
Is this true? Does that refer to RAM and ROM? If yes, why not Total : 128 MB for RAM and Total : 128 for ROM too? Sorry for this (maybe) stupid question. Just want to make it clear...
Thank you in advance... :)

Tommy,
Yes I know:
4. Make clean reset (hold callendar + itask, then press and hold reset), after about two seconds you will hear knack. Now unhold these buttons. The screen will be black.
5. After that make hard reset (hold callendar + messaging + power and then press and hold reset) after about two seconds unhold reset button first and after about one seconds remaining buttons. You will see on screen PS FORMAT.
ALREADY gone to the above two procedure, but .....THE DATE AND CLOCK ARE STILL RUNNING.
ANOTHER BUG: THERE ARE NO 24-HOUR TIME FORMAT. WHY?
Thank You.

hi tommy and thanks for the super release installation was a breeze on my 2 hx2495b ipaq's but i have a small problem and was wondering if there was any way to fix it? ok here we go it used to be that when i hit the power button my ipaq would shut off and stay that way untill i hit the power button again to turn it on. Also with wm5 my battery life when i had the unit off was around 3-4days now after wm6.1 (the latest release from this site) update my ipaq has an average of 3hrs of life when it is off if i dont plug it in it will die in 3hrs even if i took it off charge and dident turn it on i also noticed that after 10min of turning my ipaq off the wifi light starts to blink and just keeps blinking i turn it on and wifi is connected already i checked all settings and i dont know what else todo i cant have only 3 hrs before the batttery is 0% or i will have to go back to wm5 and i love the look of wm6 better
steps i have taken
1: followed instructions to the letter all steps
2: checked all settings
3: reflashed rom and did clean reset and hard reset (ps-format) again
still no change on either ipaq??? is there a way to tell the ipaq power off means power off no checking internet connection every 10-30 min and then maintaining connection when it should not be connected even..
thanks once again

actualy yes there is a 24hr option go to start/settings/system/regional settings/time
this is where you set all things that deal with time, date, currancy, units of measurement and how they appear
as for the clock basicly you can change it from say 13:03pm to 01:03pm by selecting HH:mm:ss or hh:mm:ss
HH shows time as 13:03 and hh shows time as 01:03

I updated my hx2790 to this ROM a few days ago. By following the instructions in the first post exactly I had a totally problem free upgrade.
So, many thanks to Tommy_adsl for the ROM and his continuing maintenance and patience. Also thanks to YuRRiX, Kozhura and Misar that made it possible.
The only issues I've had relate to WM6 and not this ROM. Specifically :
MS not allowing the use of modem initialisation strings for GPRS. As others have had to do, I used a registry editor to modify the relevant registry key.
cLaunch v12.04 was not a straighforward install but does work with some effort.
Observations :
1. When removed from charge, the orange charging LED takes some time to go off. Is this normal behaviour?
2. When on charge, the Today screen battery meter % figure doesn't seem to progress towards 100%. A refresh of the battery meter can be forced by removing the device from charge, switching it off and then on again.
Again, many thanks to Tommy_adsl.

1.since my 2410 os is 2003 se, i was wondering can i use the rom u offered directly to upgrade from 2003se to WM 6.1? do i need to upgrade from 2003se to WM5 then to WM6?
2.i am confused cauz u mentioned at the very begining of the post the rom for hx2000 series, but at last u mentioned "If you have hx2410/hx2110 use following instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=372799" so which one should i followed?
3. i noticed that likeme has afforded Chinese version, i was wondering is it ok for using Chinese version direclty to upgrade from my english 2003se version to Chinese WM6.1?
4. speed and bugs. does it run more faster than 2003se? what about 64M Rom+64M Ram to run WM6.1, perfect?

My ipaq hx2410 is not found by activesync (4.5.0). I have runned before
hpRUU.exe and after that it seems to be dead. Does't start, charges or blink a led. All I can see is the Pre-BL screen, the PC beeps (USB connected) but the hpRUU.exe gives the error 503 (activesyncerror).
Is there a way to solve this?
Thank you very much

Hi.
1. 2. Yes, you can flash directly. But many people says that hx2410 will not boot to wm. However you will be still able to take iPAQ to preBL mode and flash again. I preffer to use steps described at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=372799 (for hx2410)
3. I don't speak chinese so I didn't test it. But likeme made it by my last kitchen. It might be OK. Ask him directly.
4. In this ROM are only three bugs. (refreshing battery state after USB charging [you need to turn iPAQ off and on to refresh], no storage encryption, windows live don't work ). WM6.1 is more faster ...

Hi, your iPAQ is not dead. If you can see Pre-BL mode you're still able to flash again. Take your pda to PreBL and press callendar button. Connect iPAQ to cradle and to AC. After that run hpRUU.

Hi!!!!
Well I really need some help :( , cause I've got a ipaq hx2490, and I updated its rom to wm6, and that carried me an awfull lot of problems :x , it got completly instaled on my ipaq :D , and at the moment of running it, it showed me the configuration screen, i passed through the first screen and got to the align screen  , that's my problem, i keep putting the stylus perfectly on the targets, and everything and it keeps showing me the same window again and again and again, well then i did everything they told me that i could do to fix it, but it didn't work, so i downgraded the rom again to wm5, but i got the same problem, look my ipaq is from mexico, i dont know if the problem could be that the system identifies that the language is not the one that the ipaq originally had, or something like that, I really need to get it fixed cause i deppend on it for all of my work, please I'd appreciate if someone could help me to solve this :!: :!: :!: :!:
P.S. it doesnt matter if the rom is on spanish (that was its original language)

Hello tommy_adsl,
Thank you very much for sharing your work.
It had my hp2490b with WM6 of PDAVIET and it was working well but the battery was becoming exhausted very rapidly; I have passed your rom to my pocket and it works correctly and now the battery lasts more.
Only a doubt: if I go to START -> SETTINGS -> SYSTEM -> MEMORY, I do not see the label "Runing Programs", it is normal this? , I know we have Task Manager.......
Thank you again and a greeting.

Yes, it's normal because Wm6.1 has a new task manager.;)

I was wondering if anyone has any plans to release a stripped down version for those of us with devices that have 64MB + 64MB (ROM-RAM). It's tough installing essentials on the storage memory with just 12MB free (technically it's 10MB free because having anything less than 2MB free in your device is instant device crawl.) I would get the ROM cooker but it's rather a bit too large for my dial-up connection and it's not on a resumeable host (due to the many disconnection probabilities of dial-up)
And, thanks Tommy. You've done us a great service. My device has the least amount of reset's since I've ever had it (WM2003 needed a reset every hour, WM5 needed a reset after every charge). I look forward to any updates :)

Yes, the same had been expected for some time by many people with 64MB + 64MB device. Official HP wm5.0 has Lite version. Theoretically wm6.1 could be "Lite" too. We need help from those experts out there!!
Me too, again thanks Tommy for his patience and free-work for us.

Hi Tommy,
first - thanks for sharing with us your great work!
I have an ipaq 2410 and I tried to build a lite version from the new kitchen (01.05.08) - and even though I removed all the optional packages (no games, sql, windows live, office mobile etc) - I still end up with the exact same amount of free memory on the device - 14.9MB out of which 12MB are free.
I read in a previous thread that something needs to be changed in the ROM build way so to free up ROM space..
Do you know how this can be solved?
If anyone else managed to build a "lite version" please share it with the rest..
Your help is much appreciated,
thanks.

Say, is there any way to slim down the ROM kitchen file? I would like to try my hand at cooking but 76MB is overkill for a free rapidshare user like me with my connection's tendacy to disconnect. Or if someone can upload it to a host where I can resume that would be cool. But better yet if anyone has plans to release a slimmed down WM 6.1 for us, I'll wait for it :D

ok Tommy, I've got an update for you!
Finally it seems it wasn't Calendar the problem for my random turn ons, but the Protect Tools or actually the combination of protect tools with the calendar appointments! I don't know the exact reason, cause I haven't found the time yet to trace it down, but after a little troubleshooting I found this. However I don't have the same problem with the windows protect tool. (Note that when I was using the HP Protect tools, I had it set up to use biometric fingerprint or PIN).

I am trying to upgrade my HX2790 to WM6.1 but I can’t because I have two problems.
First problem: HPRuu.exe refuses to load the new ROM stating that I have the wrong language version. It sees the language as Unknown. I cannot perform the rename nbf file trick as there is no way around the unknown status. I think I can bypass the problem by using the Bootloader program to avoid the language check. Am I correct?
Second problem: I can sync with my PC using activesync when my IPAQ is running in normal mode just by inserting it in the cradle but in pre-BL mode, activesync does not see the IPAQ anymore. I tried it on 2 different computers with the same result.
I assume the problem is with my IPAQ because of the unknown language status and the failure to sync in Pre-BL mode. I am tempted to do a full hard reset on my IPAQ to see if the errors will disappear.
For the record, I have put the HX2790 in pre-BL mode, inserted the Ipaq on the cradle, waited for the ‘USB connected’ message and pressed the calendar button and the IPAQ indicated ‘USB’. I also deleted and reinstalled ActiveSync V4.5.0 on my computer (XP).
I have applied two system upgrades since I got the device both suggested by HP since acquisitions. One was to address the battery drainage while in sleep mode and the other was a firmware update. I suspect one of the two updates are responsible for my problems.
Any idea on what I can do to perform the upgrade?
Thanks

i have 2790 and dont have any problems... rename of files is not necessary
what ROM you have on device? try to upgrade latest official ROM 1.00.01 from HP iPAQ hx2000 Pocket PC Series ROM Update (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=215348&prodSeriesId=421420&prodNameId=1128656&swEnvOID=2067&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ip-48280-1)
then try to upgrade to WM6.1 following steps
1. Take your pda to PreBL mode (hold contact+itask+power and then lightly press reset, after about two second unhold remaing buttons). The screen will be white. After that press callendar.
2. Now connect your pda to craddle and plug the cable to AC and then to PC, you will hear beep from pc (USB Device connected).
3. Run hpRUU.exe.

Hey Tommy -
Can you please tell us if it is possible to create a "lite" version of the ROM that would have more spare storage memory? Many people here are interested in this.
If you can point us in how this may be achieved that would be very useful.
Thanks.

Thanks dxdy for your input, you helped me a lot. I did not write in my previous post that my IPAQ is French. I had it at a very low price in Canada (surplus in BC, go figure). As I understand French, it was a too good a deal to let by. So the Rom update you indicated was for the English units. I already had the latest French update.
Now the good news is following your post, I decided to rerun the latest French Rom update. I then reran the HPRRU (WM6.1 from Post 1) in Pre-BL mode and the unit did not connect with my IPAQ. I noticed that when I ran the French Rom Update in normal mode, it switched automatically my IPAQ to Pre-BL mode and did the Rom check and update after. I then launched the ROM update again, let it do its checking and when the update & cancel buttons appeared; I switched the Rom (nbf file from post 1) and hit the upgrade button.
I now have a working WM6.1 HX2790 in English. I am so happy…. I will now go play with it.
Thanks again dxdy for putting me on the right track. You reminded me to rerun the Rom update.

Is there a reason why when I was done with the upload that it restarted on its own and everything was working perfect, BUT with all my info from my previous version 6.0. When I upgraded from 5.0 to 6.0 I had to to a hard reset just to get anything to happen. This time it restarted itself and all my old info is still there. I verified that it was successful to 6.1. You can redirect cache for Opera/(any browser) if you use SK-Tools (personally, Pocket MEchanic takes up a lot of space). I believe one can also redirect Application memory to the cards as well (in "Tune Up" options.)
Look through this site here (http://s-k-tools.com/) and give it a whirl. Of course, I recommend a backup if you are unsure of things.
And, yes, our devices with 64MB+64MB just aren't cutting it with this ROM version. My RAM is hovering around 30MB free, and as a Pocket Artist I have peeling here and there, and as for storage memory I have to redirect several large windows components to my CF card and even then it came with the risk of system slow down and in the end I Formatted PS several times now.
Oh Lite 6.1, where art thou?

With the new kitchen having been posted, I downloaded it. However, Same issues present with this kitchen as with the previous version. After you add your ingredients and select them in build os the next step is g reloc which doesnt even show up on the computer screen and then it has the nerve to ask me if Greloc finished successfully. How am i supposed to know i never even seen it appear but for about .5 Micro Seconds. Basically it appears only in a flash. Then the same old problem with occurs in the next step. "BuildIMGFS has stopped working, Please wait while Windows Vista gathers more information about the cause". So I close that window then we move on to the next stage of the script and it eventually finishes. OR HAS IT FINISHED?????????? Guess not because strangely enough when I goto the TEMP folder to get my "IPAQROM" i notice that its still 48MB in size. Thats strange because I just added about 13MB of my own packages to the rom but where did they go I wonder. Nevertheless it should be a 61MB +/- because 48+13 = 61MB. But no matter what at the end of the day i still end up with a 48MB rom with none of my stuff cooked in. Now I have about 5 computers running OS from XP to Server 2003 to Vista PERHAPS SOMEONE CAN EXPLAIN WHY THIS NO MATTER WHAT OS I USE.

Hi,
I ran the upgrade process for my hx2410 and no problem during the flashing but when it has finished the pda don't boot. And now not even the hard reset seems to work... Could I do something or is it dead ?
Edit : I can put it in "Pre-BL Mode" but nothing more...
Edit2 : I can go to Pre-BL Mode, then press the calendar button and see "USB" message, then I tried various hpRUU.exe with Roms, some of them says "RUUClientDriver.dll could not initialize" and some doesn't say anything... I even tried "WWE-hx2000_PPC03_downgrade.exe" and it doesn't do anything so I think cannot reflash ?!
And when a try a hard reset, nothing happend. It seems I cannot format the ps...
Last problem : the battery is not recharging (the orange led is off), so when it'll go empty...

Should probably have a value of Headset Audio Gateway or something to that effect.
What does this affect? Well when scanning for available BT services offered for a device this comes up for Headset Gateway. Again im not sure what its supposed to be called or if thats even what it is. But I will assume it has something to do with a heaset due to the Headset Icon beside "Bunch of Weird Symbols" when it is available in bluetooth manager device search. Hopefully someone can figure out what its supposed to be called and correct that as well. Furthermore if Tommy_ADSL wants a working version of Windows Live then here is a working OEM package. I have tested it and is working perfectly in my Rom Builds for the Kaiser aka HTC TyTN II aka TILT. ITS BEEN ALMOST THREE MONTHS TRYING TO BUILD A ROM FOR THIS DEVICE. IT HASNT HAPPENED YET AND I DONT FORSEE IT HAPPENING AT THIS POINT. I FEEL LIKE IM WORKING IN DARKNESS WITH NO HELP OR INFORMATION REGARDING THE ISSUES I HAVE REPEATEDLY EXPLAINED. THIS IS POINTLESS. i installed the rom on my device(HX2790) and of course i got al reerrors the other were getting BECAUSE I DID NOT READ AL THE WAY.
turned out i forgot to press calendar after preboot mode.
everything seems to work ok
i noticed 2 things
1 SDHC performance is slow comparing to wm5 with sdhc driver(2.5MB versus 11MB)
2 wifi roaming does not work well
eg start wifi, first time it detects the router. after swithing the router of and on it does not see the router anymore so i figure it does not scan continiously for wifi accespoints.
There is also a bug in detecting wifi when you switch on SSID hiding.
eg first time unhide SSID, accespoints gets detected and connection is made.
when you then hide the SSID the pocketpc is not able to detect the accespoint anymore.
this is strange because it ha al the info and this worked really good on wm5.
are there any driver updates for this?
is it smart to install a wm5 driver upddate for this since hp does not supply wm6 updates

Which version of .net is needed for this kitchen to work. Their are only several different versions with bunches of service packs and you have redistribuatable packages and then you have just basic .net downloads. It would help if their was a manual to this kitchen. I found YURRIX Kitchen and manual but of course its written in russian. The reason I like Tommys Rom so much is because he didnt add a bunch of bloated unnecessay software to the rom. He built his rom comparable to the original am5 rom. He didnt add a bunch of junk like yurrix and pdaviet did to their roms. It would be much appreciated if someone who has actually go this kitchen to work would assist me a little. Please.

Well I have 1.1 and 2.0 which is built into Windows Vista. I have 3.5 as well. So far I can take away packages and edit rgu files and it works. But not matter what packages i use and I have created a bunch. BuildIMGFS always crashes. But if i take away nothing goes wrong at all. Beats me. I did manage to take away the windows live that was inside the rom and replace it with my oem package. So that works. Im not sure but maybe build imgfs doesnt like my FFFFFFFF dsm and rgu files. If thats the case then thats too bad cause im not rebuilding every custom package i have made. Sadly no custom package i have created works on here. They work on Cingular 8125, 8525, Tilt. But not in this kitchen. I even tried to do all this on windows xp to no surprise it didnt work either. Like i said i can take away packages and edit existing registry files but cant add anything.

Hi Tommy,
first - thanks for sharing with us your great work!
Your help is much appreciated,
thanks.
Hi,
use this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=307968
but as I typed manytimes, this is only for wm6.0 (you can try it, but I think, you will be not able to read some text, because there are difference between 6.0 and 6.1). For wm6.1 you must wait for localized version of wm6.1 images: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=3D6F581E-C093-4B15-AB0C-A2CE5BFFDB47&displaylang=en
or edit every mui files in kitchen, then edit boot.rgu and some other registry(I don't remember - use google first :-) ) for changing langage id and compile with kitchen again.

does anyone feel 64MB ram on 24XXor 27XX is not enough for use?
I usually playing music and browsing find this problem, opera or media player may quit suddenly, is any way to make the sd card to be a virtual memory/swap drive?
it's enough ... I have 2790b with 320ROM and 64RAM and it's enough.

i would like to cook a CHT hx2000 rom by myself, is that need to change the mui files so that can translate to CHT version, also seeking for tools, which kind is more user friendly?
as bellow, is that ok for me to use?

Hi,
I ran the upgrade process for my hx2410 and no problem during the flashing but when it has finished the pda don't boot.
It's not dead, enter PreBL mode, press callendar button and try to download this rom (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=cs&cc=cz&prodTypeId=215348&prodSeriesId=421420&prodNameId=3378432&swEnvOID=2067&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=PSG_I23561-108719) and if you'll get the error message again, use my installer and change only nbf file with nbf from HP.

i installed the rom on my device(HX2790) and of course i got al reerrors the other were getting BECAUSE I DID NOT READ AL THE WAY.
turned out i forgot to press calendar after preboot mode.
everything seems to work ok
i noticed 2 things
Hi,
1. do you have that "quick" driver?
2. I will test it

remove my SYS\WindowsLive and SYS\WindowsLive_DPI_96 and copy your pack to SYS\Windows Live. If I good see you already have option.xml in your pack. Delete it. Edit \SYS\option.xml and drop this row:<Guid type="i">724ad92d-adb6-4229-b4f7-89b30e7c90e2</Guid>

With all due respect Tommy I already knew how to do that. That wasnt a problem. The problem is when i add any other of my own packages to this rom. I mean BUILDIMGFS fails to build when i add any additional packages. NOT BUILDOS. BUILDOS works perfectly. It was never a issue. THe issue is whenever i add any of my packages to this rom no matter what BUILDIMGFS Crashes. I have a total of about 32MB of my own packages i want to add to this rom however build imgfs doesnt work properly when i add additional packages. ITS ALL ABOUT BUILDIMGFS.exe

After doing some extensive tinkering and research with this KITCHEN I have discovered what everyone else already knows. No matter what you add or take away the size of the rom is always 49,181 KB's. YES THIS KITCHEN WORKS. However you can not exceed 49,181KB's in file size. Apparently this is a bug. So as for me adding 32MB of packages extra to this rom. You may be lucky and get in a 32KB package. Know this and I challenge anyone else to prove this wrong. I added a package that contained nothing but 500Kb of wav files. At first It couldnt be done. But after I deleted the Office package and tried again to add my package miraculously it worked. So again people. You can take away and add but you cant just start adding what ever you want because BUILDIMGFS will fail due to the corruption or bug in file rewrite size being limited to 49,181 KB's. Kinda sucks when you have a 320MB ROM but can only write to 49,181 KB's of it.

Hi Tommy, I have one question.
In the WM5 I used there was some feature called Bluetooth Phone Manager. It was very useful thing because I connected from time to time to Internet via GPRS using my Nokia phone. The trouble is, I can't find this feature in the new WM6.1 installation, and I can't find out, how to list all paired devices. Moreover, there's a missing tab, I suppose, that seems to me as crucial to make a connection. In "Start->Settings->Connections->Connections->Bluetooth Internet Settings->Manage existing connections->CONNECTION NAME->Edit->Next->Next->Advanced..." In this tab there used to be something like "General->Extra dial-string modem commands:" Without filling this in the GPRS connection is impossible and there's no possiblity put it in after I switched to WM6.1 from You.
Is there a way to overcome this problem? Is it maybe possible to install the needed features, the Bluetooth Phone Manager and the missing tab, and if so, where could I get the needed files? Regards, thanks a lot, the memory cards work perfectly. :-)

Hi Tommy, again.
I found some way out: used Your Kitchen. :-) YOU ARE A GENIUS x 2 :-) With the provided tools it's possible even for a complete informatic geek like me to cook up a working final version of ROM. :-) In fact, all the complicated things are hidden deep under the hub, and that's because the effect is twice so amazing. :-)
There were some 2 bugs reported, but I loaded the result file onto my IPAQ and it's, knock, knock, working. :-) Now the system has all benefits: the memory cards stay visible and the Bluetooth Phone Manager is on place and working. :-)
Thank You and all the folks who were working on this project. :-)

I don't suppose you were able to trim the ROM size down a bit.
As for me, unfortunately I see the benefits of this great WM6.1 unacceptable due to the lack of free program storage memory (remember I have a 64MB-ROM/64MB-RAM hx2415 device). So, what did I do? I went over to another forum, grabbed a few ROM editing tools (small size DOS stuff lol), ripped apart that infamous 39MB Official HP WM5 ROM upgrade for hx2000 series, then dug into that WM5 SP33003 1.02.00.H ROM version and snagged the filesys.exe and gwes.exe, injected that into the HP 39MB ROM, flashed it to my device and you know what?
Not only do I have 18MB program storage available (out of 24MB, with BT phone manager still installed), but I have 44MB RAM available at start-up, and the speed and functionality of the 1.02.00.H ROM (which we all know is somewhat needed for the WM6.1 ROM). It may not be WM6, but it sure as hell is alot better than the HP 39MB ROM, which we all should know how ridiculousy sluggish and painful it was.
Here's hoping someone who's hacker enough can shrink the WM6.1 ROM (If only I had a faster connection, me = Dial-up lol)
I mean if I was able to do what I did with the HP 39MB mess, imagine what I could do if I had the connection to grab the necessary components for these kitchens :)

Hi.
To mangatron: Very good work done, then. :-) I wouldn't call myself hacker in any way, I didn't even try to change any existing components of the Tommy's Kitchen. I needed some working solution, so I just have chosen the elements I thought are needed active in the provided program - interesting thing, I've tried several combinations and the final ROM file sizes seemed to be identical...
However, the final compilation is a little unstable - the device hangs up sometimes, especially when using the Bluetooth Phone Manager or.. Tasks. The system is much, much faster than the original WM5 from HP for me. You're right, though, it isalso much more RAM consuming - with WM5 the free amount at startup was about 40 MB, sometimes a little less, the WM6.1 leaves only 34 MB, sometimes a little more or less. Interesting, even without any action the amount of free RAM sometimes decreases gradually as time passes. I didn't notice it with WM5, but maybe I wasn't looking exactly enough. Also the System Tasks list, that I didn't notice in my old HP system, appearing after using Today Toolbar, hangs up sometimes - the list stays white, without any text. The battery seems to last a little shorter than it used to, but maybe I started to use the device, in the end... ;-)
But the efficiency of Bluetooth Phone Manager in WM6.1 is superb! In the WM5 version I used to fight many hours to set the connection with Internet using my phone, and it was highly unpredictable, if it worked or not. In the WM6.1 version all the needed settings are present at startup, I needed only to pair the devices correctly. :-) The same problem situation was with the computer Active Sync connections, here there are no such problems at all. :-)
Is it important, how many elements I choose in the Kitchen to build the ROM for the RAM consumption, when the final ROM size is the same whether I choose them or not? I noticed, that when I compiled the ROM without that Bio... element, that I think is of no use in HP hx2100 series devices, it didn't appear in the System Task any more. Is it influencing in some way the performance of the Ipaq? It was present in the list, though, when I previously used the "ready" version of Tommy's ROM.
Maybe it's a stupid question, but is ie. the SQL ROM element useful in everyday using of the IPAQ - that is, using Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Office applications and some e-book readers, listening to MP3 files, connecting to Internet via GPRS to check the post via HTML, while not using at all for example all those Live Sute, Live Update, RDP, Bio, Games and Messenger services? I didn't remove SQL from the list while preparing my version of ROM, because I didn't know, if the rest of the elements will work without it.
To Tommy: is there a possibility, that maybe You prepare some new version of Kitchen, that will be more stable... or a stable Ready version of ROM... including Bluetooth Phone Manager? ;-) I don't even dare to ask You for preparing some stable version for my Ipaq hx2190, because I know no one has too much spare time... So or so, thanks once again for what is at hand right now. :-)

Well, friends... Something better is better than something good...;-) Tommy's ROM Ready version doesn't include Bluetooth Phone Manager and the Kitchen version I've made has proven unstable - was hanging many times a day, while using different applications. A friend of mine told me, that there are many versions of unofficial ROM and gave me some adresses for a start in Google. And I have found some Vietnamise version here: http://www.pda4x.com/read.php?tid=65492&fpage=0&toread=&page=1 The original Vietnamise forum indicated there is weird, because it's written wholly in Vietamise language. However, there's some visible link to a little newer version of ROM, too. After many probes I have registered there, but to download anything was truly impossible... However, under the address mentioned above I found rapidshare link with pass. And I gave it a try. :-) Everything went OK. The ROM is stable as I could try it, and for me very fast, perhaps faster than Tommys. It looks quite nice, in black, too. A big disadvantage however is the Bluetooth Manager. The version the Vietnamise used is somehow defective - doesn't comply with my headphones and headset I used without problems with WM5. The Tommy's ROM works at least with the Motorola S3 headphones, but definitively refuses to work with the Logitech headset - the connection looks normal in the window, but in the loudspeaker is only buzzing. No changing of options in services and so on helped. :-( The sound of the built-in IPAQ speaker is off at the time the headset is connected, so it seems the audio data go somewhere else, but evidently not to the headset.
As I use the headphones often, the version without Bluetooth Audio patent wasn't acceptible to me at all. So I went into Internet quest after some software that could be applied to activate it. It seems a complicated problem discussed in many places, but without some big success. At least, I didn't find anything of use.
So I had 3 options: Tommy's stable ROM without GPRS Internet, Tommy's unstable Kitchen with GPRS Internet and patent Bluetooth Audio or the Vietnamise ROM, stable, with GPRS Internet, but without patent Bluetooth Audio. And You know what? I finally accidentally found a solution to my problem! :-)
Some wise man called abbaml, whom I thank from the bottom of my heart, extracted the BT Phone Managers files from WM5, put it into archieve and sent to some file server, for the purposes of WM6.0 developement some time ago. The address is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330382 (In the same place there are some solutions for Bluetooth Audio mentioned, but they didn't work for me) And I managed what looked impossible to me: went back to Tommy's stable ROM and used the extracted BTPM files copied to some IPAQ local catalogue to connect to Internet. Such a tiny piece of hacker I am... ;-) Seems maybe primitive, but it WORKS for me and is stable. :-)
Thanks once again to everyone in Internet whos work allows me now to wholly enjoy my IPAQ. :-)

Hello. As I for last few days quested in Internet for some solution for my problems with BT GPRS Phone connection and BT Audio, I found something that may be interesting for You. Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330382&page=4 You find the way and software to force-flash any ROM image, assuming that it is designed for Your type of device. Interestingly enough a link is here on this forum, http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=34171, and I will seriously advise that you follow these guidelines, tips, hints or whatever they are called as they have caused me headaches, so to save yourself read on:
-I recommend using an external hard drive, preferably one at 7,000+ RPM, and one that isn't a critical system drive. Reason for this is in my experience, dumping 3 roms produces thousands of tiny little files, greatly slowing down system performance and causing me to restart from time to time. Let's not talk about bulding edited roms....
-You need time. Don't do these ROM editing's when you have, say some grocery shopping to do or if you have a scheduled shower in the near future ;)
-You have the potential to ruin your device. This is more of a warning really, in one custom ROM build I funked the SD card drivers causing the SD card to lock up the device. Good thing panic is in my past, a reflash of the WM2003SE ROM restarted life again.
-Last but not least, do not, I repeat DO NOT multi-task when ROM building unless you have a supercomputer. Remember these tools dump all the little files in the fastest method possible (well over 1,000 files no larger than 500KB at most). Thankfully I have an external drive ready for these things. I forgot to mention I am doing all this on a laptop...
Maybe not a hint or a tip, but yes, it'll help to have the ROM's needed for your experiments. Where to get them, that'll be on your own. Me being on dial-up can't help any.
Lastly, I am not responsible for your actions, or any device that may have an early burial, I am not the author of said tools, I am not the creator of WM5, WM2003SE, WM6, nor am I responsible for this post. Hey wait a minute...

I realy don't think so.
- I'm using standard pc (Core2Duo 2,4GHz, 400GB Sata2 HDD 16MB Cache, 2GB RAM) and I really don't have problems that you're describing.
Dumping ROM is someting like unpacking rar files. If you have a lot of little files, use recommended allocation table for disk volume.
- this point is individual (I do a lot of thinks during making new rom)
- this point is true, but if you really know what you are doing (I mean: you need to read carefully and think about problem first) you don't be afraid.
- I'm using multitask every time, sometimes during flashing and everything works OK. It depends on OS and on HW speed. My recommendation: don't plug/unplug another device to/from pc and don't play games during flashing.

I think you need to read that I am doing things on a laptop. Not everyone has a standard computer like yours. If you want to know my laptop is a Turion 1.6ghz with 768MB DDR1 ram clocking at 166mhz and a less than stellar 4,000RPM hdd with most likely doesn't have 2MB cache. It is apparent by now that I consider your "standard" pc as a supercomputer especially when compared to mine.
And yes, I do multi-task when flashing, winamp and web browsing gets me going, but we're talking when Dumping roms. I see my CPU rise considerably past 90%. My "tips", "hints" or whatever they are called are merely things to consider in my experience, with the kind of laptop I am using. So yes, not everyone has a great computer. This is why I recommended an external drive, due to my experience with the external drive being alot faster than my laptop's hdd, yes it worked fine. Things to consider, but not requirements to follow. Right now I have no problems dumping roms. Thanks to the things I learned from due to my laptop being from the yesteryears I think it's safe to say it's all good.
As I said earlier I'm not responsible for the actions anyone takes in following the link I posted earlier, and given the lessons learned from my experience I wouldn't be surprised if someone comes into this forum with a computer worse than mine and end up blasting me for the "simple" things they could have read about.

You probably needed to flash the 1.00.02 H ROM. Did you have that installed? Worked for me, anyways. In my experience having that or the 3.52 AKU by kozhura works when flashing WM6. Never tried flashing Tommy's WM6.1 with 3.52 installed, but having 1.00.02 H worked.

Certainly not the end I'd wish for lad. Hope is there though, in the form of the WM5 upgrade for hx2000 series from HP. If you have that, just flash the WM5 upgrade and all should be well. Of course, the Advanced Pack for the 4PDA WM6 ROM that was linked somewhere here has everything one needs to install Tommy's WM6.1. Uh, a little searching here may do.
Edit: I must not have been fully awake, if one got their hands on the Advanced Pack, the proper procedure would be to flash WM2003, then WM5, then 1.00.0 H, followed by 1.00.02 H. Then your choice of WM6 flavor.

Solved the SDHC performance issue in WM6
it turned out the cache setting is standard on 0
to improve performance edit this string in the registry
HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS\EnableCache = 1 (DWORD decimal)
default is 1 so probably no change needed
HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS\CacheSize = 4096 (DWORD decimal)
default is 0 in WM6.1 so change this and performance will be way better

Hmm, that is the problem...I am unable to reflash as the HP packs do not see the device...the universal bootloader is unable to open WSCH.... port?
Any other way to flash...the device is in Pre-BL1.00.02 and shows USB connection but nothing else.

Normally you are supposed to be able to flash a ROM when in Pre-Bootloader mode. Have you tried a different USB port? Pre-Bootloader mode is usually the last option that always worked for me when I have ROM flash failures.
On a side note, what MAME emulator are you using? I thought there was only FinalBurn 0.011 Alpha.

I think this should be pasted on thread starting post, it is not possible to shrink ROM size simply by deleting files. There's more to that. I'm not sure, but it might have to do with the hv file, editing the boot related stuff, heck maybe even those imageinfo.bin's. One thing is for sure, deleting files off the ROM dump sure wont help. In my experience, it's your source ROM that need to be edited. Right now I'm having fun with HP's 39MB WM5 ROM, so here's hoping I can somehow magically stuff WM6 into it.
(Note: I tried replacing everything inside the WM5 ROM, but hey I got a brick lol. Went back to the real WM5 :/ )

Not sure about the battery....
Well yes and know for the ROM....the _READY one is ready to be flash to your device....
The make your own....you have the option to remove some of the components, some people (you can do some reading couple of pages back) that it does not make big difference.
To go back i think it's possible....have not done it myself but i did few ROM's and had no problems...never go back though..
I would suggest take few minutes out of your day and read this thread...lot's of good information.

first of all MAJOR THANKS to "Tommy-ADSL"; finally somebody w. clear instructions ;)
but there's something that i found out; not sure if it's by design or a problem for real:
I own a HP iPAQ hx2495b - original bootrom was 1.02.00H - winMobile 5.0 (if i recall right) now it's Tommy's 5.20.01.C
Everything seems to work great; my iGPS-BT II, my SAMSUNG SGH-a707 (for HSDPA highspeed internet), my Jabra BT8010 and my Laser Projection Keyboard link up via Bluetooth just fine.
BUT - i noticed in the Settings -> System -> Memory, that i've 133.32 MB Total Storage available, but HP's website says that the hx2495b has normally "192 MB user available persistent storage memory" - am i missing something here? or are now TWO Roms in my PocketPC loaded and the boot-loader points to the WM 6.1 and not to the WM5.0 anymore? Since the "missing amount" would fit for like ~60 MB for a "second Rom-image". And No, I dont mean "Free Memory", i mean total available.
Am thinking that it could be like two Operating systems on one harddrive's partition.
Anyone else have that "issue"?
correct me if i'm wrong ;)
cheers

did you do the "PS Storage format" after flashing your PPC to your new WM6.1 ROM ?
not sure which button+reset combo it is on your PPC but on the 24xx-series it's
- hold down Calender, power and Message buttons, then press and hold reset with the stylus until the screen goes black
- release reset button
- release all other buttons.
Then you should see the Boot-Loader screen, reading PS FORMATTING....after that it's like out-of-the-box new.

I own a hx2410 and I successfully installed Tommy's ROM Package.
The only issue I've got is the Address Book.. whenever I try to open Addr Book it closes down as if it encounters an error. I can see the windows coming up but then it closes down automatically.
Do you know what it's due to? AddrBook is a shortcut to "poutlook contacts"... Outlook is working fine, it's just the Contacts really.
Please if you know anything let me know, I'm really at my wits' end.

Its working on a hx2110! Thank you!
Other hx2110 users, please use this for hard reset:
A propper hard reset (Formatting PS) is done this way:
Calendar (press+hold) + Power (press + Hold) +Email (Press + Hold) + Reset (6 seconds) + Release calendar + release email + release power + release Reset (Answer of HP support) (don't know if it can be achieved easier.. but this procedure works)
[edit]
I used the $_READY_WITHOUT_OFFICE_WMPLAYER_BIO .... i just wanna say ... AMAZING .. so many free space on my good old hx2110!
Is it possible to download office and put the .exe's on a memory card (and ofcourse use it)?
[edit2]
Also updated an HX2790! The procedure is SO SIMPLE compared to the PDAVIET WM 6.0! I used $_READY for this one, so now i have the office files and try it on the hx2110.

I've found a good base for a new ROM here "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401068". Hi, I've been experiencing difficulty reading files off my sd-card using the new OS.
When I power down and then power up my hx2795b using WM6.1, the OS only recognizes my sd-card moments later. This causes havoc when I am trying to read pdfs and decide to power off for a while (for example). Is there a simple registry edit I can perform?
Its a great upgrade, but this is a real problem I face day to day. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
P.S. Using the original WM5 ROM, the sd-card is never recognized as ever being turned off after power up. This has always ensured that open files are not corrupted when I suspend the power.

Thank Tommy you very much for the very smooth rom update to my hx2790.
I am facing a very weird problem with WM6 that I did not have on WM5. When installing an exe from the PC looks fine but it does not install the software. A CAB install on the device goes ok.

I seem to be having unique problems when upgrading my rom. Here's the breakdown:
I have an ipaq hx2495b with rom version 1.02.00.H
and windows vista home premium.
I downloaded the rom from http://rapidshare.com/files/115083175/__READY.rar.
I attempt to set my device in "PreBL mode" ... holding contacts+itask+power then lightly pressing reset, which does result in it being stuck at the white screen, but then pressing calendar changes nothing. Which I will have to assume is the norm because your instructions dont say anything about it changing once you press calendar.
At this point I connect my device, and run hpRUU.exe ... this results in the error message "unable to connect with activesync" or something to that nature, which is confusing because vista doesnt use acticesync.
So I reboot the device and try running hpRUU.exe once again, this time the update utility starts up fine. I continue with the update ... The update utility goes to the progress bar (frozen at %0.1) ...
Then it stops and i get this error message:
"ERROR 608: Could not initialize device.
RUUClientDriver.dll could not initialize this device. This may not be the correct DLL for this IPAQ pocket pc and this NBF file."
Now I have tried almost every ROM you guys have made, Ive tried the official one from HP, I have tried following your instructions as best as I can.
Can someone please tell me what is going wrong?

I am new to this site and a novice. I have managed to flash to most of the versions on this site and others, update form the Rus to Tommys one etc. I do not know how to fix bluetooth problems e.g. blutotooth does not turn on e.g. the bluetooth radio failed etc. cannot connect jabra bluetooth earpeace.
My questions is, can these bugs be fixed and how to do it. I have read through the threads and getting confused the more I read. Is it worth fit, I think I am going to revert to WM5. I have hp 2490B but it was exciting when I managed the flash.

Hi I have managed to sort out a few bugs as instructed by tommys. I have another problem and do not know how to sort it out. I used to use jabra bluetooth Bt 150 while using Tomtom 6 or 7. Now the Jabra bluetotooth ear piece does not work. When I revert to WM5 it does.
Your help will be appreciated on how to cure and remedy this problem. I have tried another headset the same. I have done the a2dp fixed and the btcore stuff. All the bluetooth earpieces connect but I do not hear the Tomtom voice. I hope I have expressed the problem clearly.

hi there, one way is to left the device on the charger at least for couple of hours so the battery should be recharged enough to flash (at least 50%) but lets say, the battery is ok and have no problem. and if you are not successfully, try to use one of the bootloader mode, like white and tricolor one. once I had corrupted image, but bootloader was ok. battery depleted, so I moved device to the white bootloader and normall recharged. after that the flash was normally possible. so give it a try and let us know. oh, one mor thing, how to move to white screen is well described in this thread.

Just an update on my bluetooth earpiece. Intalled Misar rom and to my astonishment my bluetooth earpiece Jabra bt150 works with tomtom 7 after renaming the BTcoreIf.dll to BtcoreIfold. My questions is why does it not work in Tommys rom? For the moment sticking to Misar rom. By the way I did apply the Udilak A2DP fix. After trying every roms available, it is the Misar Rom which has fixed my bluetooth issue.:)

Sinmae, i try what you said, let charging for 3 hours but doesnt work. When i put in the charger (ac adapter) the ipaq start alone in the bootload mode loading the wm6.1's rom. It finishe load but nothing happening, the screen freezing at 100%. The light of recharging battery in the ipaq always light off and probably the battery is not recharging. When i take off the ipaq of charger its turn off. I tried of all the ways to turn on but nothing. Tried recharge by USB but i thought its use some king of software to recharger so the ipaq dont turn on and the pc doesnt reconize the ipaq. I dont know what do anymore.

Tommie is the man! Other helpers also!
I spend my sunday trying to make WM6 work (noSRS) on my HX2410. Although I read all posts until page 54 I did not succeed. Then I did the tutorial STEP-BY-STEP. That worked! (first 1.00.00 L, then 1.00.00 H, then WM6). If you get DIGITAL SIGN MISMATCH or your pda is hanging on PS format / booting WM6, please redo the whole procedure. I never did the 1.00.00H update and that caused the problems.
Please note I was not able to get into the proper USB mode in pre-BL after the 1.00.00 H update. I did hard reset again, booted 1.00.00 H fully including first-time wizard + partnership in activesync. Then did hard reset again and I managed to get into the right USB transfer mode.
And I must say, WM6 (noSRS) works SO MUCH BETTER in comparison with WM5 (slow crappy shit).
If you do not succeed, let it rest for a day and start fresh. I have about 36 ROM versions now and after a few hours it becomes a mess :)
Thanks very much!!!!!!

I just replied to your 1st question, but you edited the post so it is irelevant. the second part - in wm6 is missing tab in memory, its normal. you need to use alternative from other, 3rd party company, like HTC task manager, or (IMHO) the best ChiTaiDang today plugin (which have a really fast task manager). the USB icon can be moved by cooker to another tab, but I guess this is no big deal. it is in control panel and its working correctly.

Ok, I've been wrestling with this for a while now, and I've finally resorted to making a post here.
Here's my issue:
Did a PS format reset on my iPaq hx2495b
Put the PDA into PreBL mode. Screen turned white
Pressed calendar
Connected the PDA to the cradle which was connected to the PC by USB and had the AC adapter connected to the back of it as well. I heard the tone telling me a device was connected
Ran hpRUU.exe
After a couple minutes, I get a warning that my PDA is not connected to AC power
I have tried many times now, and every time I get the same message. When I have WM5 booted, it's not a problem to have the PDA connected to the cradle with the AC adapter connected. It connects to activesync and charges like it should. But for some reason, when I go to PreBL mode, it doesn't recognize the AC adapter is connected.
Any help is greatly appreciated! I really wanna get this working

Nobody seems to have this model... I tried the rom, it installed nicely, but the clean rest hangs.... so I hard reset... it stops at 100% ad stays there forever.... nothing..... so I press the reset button.... goes REALLY slowly to 100% (About 2 mins) and stops there... so I had to flash back to WM5. It works again... I am trying the light version now.... HX2415 has 64 MB of rom, I was thinking that that may be the problem.... anybody knows if i can be installed in 64 MB of rom???
UPDATE:
Trying the light version, no office, no windows media 10, no fingerprint reader, it flashed, not it is Formatting PS...

I had the same problem when I was trying to flash using a computer with Windows Vista. I went to work and did it with a Windows XP machine with no problem. The thing is the flash program needs Active Sync, Windows Vista cannot use Active Sync, it uses MEdia Center to sync the PDA. SO try doing it with a PC with WIndows XP. Let me know if it worked!

I am looking at my hx2415 right now and it has been fine for over 3 months with this version of windows mobile.
Are you following the steps exactly?
Are you putting it into boot loader mode, flashing, then clean resetting then hard resetting? (Format PS)
All I can say is that I know if works for sure. I get about 12 megs free space after install which is a pain, but it works. My newish hx2495 that i just bought is perfect though. I have about 70 megs free after install and I used the exact same rom file for it.
This is the rom that I use and I know for sure it works (From the first post):
New version (1.5.2008):
fixed (today panel, oeminit, oemdrivers, iPAQWireless, date/time set, control panel, microsoft Obex, IrDA, internet explorer) and removed WrlsMgr
With SRS http://rapidshare.com/files/115083175/__READY.rar.html
pass: xdadev
Give that one a try. Make sure you are flashing on an XP machine. If you are having a problem with the flashing, try another computer. Your download may be corrupted in someway. I had a computer with an intermittent memory problem that couldn't flash no matter what I tried.
Just some thoughts and good luck!

I will try that rom at work tomorrow. I am sure I am doing it right. Yeah, boot loader, it says that at the lower left corner, then when I connect it and press the calendar changes to USB, the PC recognizes it ( I hear the USB sound) and the then the flashing... I see the progress bar on the computer and on the PDA screen... it takes a while, after 100% it resets itself... and here is my problem..... Should I let that first boot go all the way or CLean Reset right away? I did both ... when i clean reset, it starts loading and the status bar moves incredibly slow.... it takes about 4 mins to reach 100% and stays there... I waited about 30 min.... the screen was the same, so I hard reset ( it clearly says Formatting PS) it also takes forever to reach 100%, once it did, I waited 40 minutes... nothing........ so I clean reset, same, hard reset again, nothing, clean reset, nothing, clean reset, nothing, clean reset, nothing....
I hope the rom was corrumpted and yours will work! I will let you all know!

You guys most likely are missing the part where you have to install a specific OS in a specific order. criskolo in your case, you have a 2495, and if it is similar to the one my brother has, all you have to do is install the 1.02.00.H_ENG ROM update, followed by the WM6.1 ROM by tommy. For users who did not have WM5 on their device to begin with, the order is: HP official WM5 ROM, 1.00.00.H_ENG ROM update, 1.02.00.H_ENG ROM update, Tommy WM6.1. I have also tried different orders, like 1.00.00.H, 1.02.00.H, Tommy WM6.1 as well as hx2750 WM5 ROM, 1.02.00.H, Tommy WM6.1. I also tried indirect approaches, with hx2750 WM5 ROM, 1.02.00.H, AKU 3.52 FIXED by Kozhura, 4PDA WM6, Tommy 6.1.
Remember, all of this is possible by using the HPRUU.exe from the HP Official WM5 ROM update for hx2000 series and by putting your device in pre-bootloader mode.

but i just want to ask, why all "upgrade" step-by-step guides are so long? why hardreseting first? why installing wm5 and then wm6.1 ? why going manualy to bootloader mode? why all this?
why doing all this when hpruu.exe is supposed to do that?
my process of upgrading hx2750 running orig wm2k3se, was very simple
1) get windows xp machine with activesync installed
2) connect pda, let AS do its work, wait till AS says device is ready and synced (even there is nothing to sync)
3) run hpruu.exe provided with this upgrade, follow instructions of that program (click next, click Upgrade, wait for upgrading/flashing process, dont disconnect power)
4) ipaq resets itself
5) hx2750 running wm6.1 is done
i didnt needed press-multiple-buttons-stylus combos, nothing. just connect and run upgrade utility.

I have downloaded the current ROM from the HP site just to see it flash and it does so I am guessing there is something I am not doing correctly.
I have manually put it into USB mode and tried letting it run and put itself into USB mode as per the official ROM nothing seems to work.
If I run the ROM with active sync connected it sees the 2110 and starts to try and update it correctly reads the ROM comes up with its warning about continuing and then sits the the 2110 does nothing.
The official ROM drops it automatically into the USB screen and updates……..
What am I doing wrong?
Any info on this problem?

Hi there
Already seen that post and tried to follow he instructions but sadly they “don’t work” as described I have downloaded the Advanced_pack_for_hx2xxx_to_WM6 and followed the instruction but as I first posted it does not get as far as installing the first update in the chain?
I flashed the original rom just to see it do the update so I had a better idea of what I was looking and that went ok but no joy sadly with WM6, at this point I would settle for WM5 but can’t seem to find an IPAQ link for that either :(
Anyway hopefully some bright chap or chapet can point out the error of my ways

Hi,
Thanks a lot Tommy for the wonderful ROM. I have been using it ever since you released it. Now I plan to sell off my IPAQ (2790b). This was bought in Germany with WM5 German OS. I plan to sell this off in Germany. Therefore I would like to flash this back with WM5 German. Can I simply take the old WM5 German ROM and flash it on top of WM6.1? Does the steps remain the same?
Thanks in advance

I think you can because I went back to wm5 a few times but now back to tommy's rom. I just used the same procedure but using SP33003 provided by hp by double clicking hpRUU, did not need to put in prebl mode if I can remember.

ok, i flashed my device fine, it worked. after manualy recreating some deleted registry keys that are missing in this release i had happy wm6.1 device.
bu i have small problem with power. power indicator in today plugin or under settings/power does not update itself. when device fully charged, it shows 100% and it show this value even after 5 hours of extensive usage with display brightness at max. after 7 hours, device simply dies because there is no power left (even it shows 100%). after connecting to AC it shows batt 0%. basicaly, without softreseting the device, i dont know what remaining power i have.
and another problem is, when i do hard/clean reset, device won't boot until powered by AC (even with full batt)
any ideas?
(and no, its not caused by registry modifications i made, they had nothing to do with power/battery)

Ipaq 2790b.
Windows Mobile 6.1 rom image from rapidshare, because i had given up on the idea i have deleted the file but it was called:
iPAQ_hx2000_6.01.02_WM6.1
It contained the HP FRU uploader program.
(found it)
http://rs275.rapidshare.com/files/110252765/iPAQ_hx2000_6.01.02_WM6.1.rar
My problem is simple, im trying to get this rom onto my ipaq 2790b.
Why this rom? Well, nothing personall but i want a clean official rom, i know that there are several very clever people out there who have "cooked" up roms but i dont want one with any additional choices of programs, things like tommys? rom and pdaviet? all have their own little adaptations and i dont want that, i want a pure clean unadulterated rom.
Which is what i thought the rapidshare file was but almost 3 weeks of solid trying i have failed to upgrade my device and now ask if anyone can help.
I've read this and other forums from top to bottom, i can get the ipaq into normal boot loader, whitescreen bootloader (which does nothing) but every time i try to upload a rom i either get a CRC error (using FRU from HP) or some other error from chrismrulez? generic boot loader. Ive tried tutorials, ive tried and tried until i'm blue in the face..
Does anyone have a clean rom and a program that WILL upload it properly.
Ive tried a vista machine (useless) and an xp machine also useless but at least on the XP machine i can upload the proper hp wm5 rom.
I've even looked at some of the items on fleabay and the like but the real pisser is that i am an ex IT engineer and flashing firmware is second nature to me but this has gotten me beat. So, anyone who can help, im all ears...

Hi cornz, sorry to break the news but ... there is no such thing as WM6 "official rom" for iPAQ. As far as I know, HP never releases one. I am guessing by its name that your downloaded ROM was from PDAViet?

but it dont. i charge device, and i know its charged only by led color. when charged, i do soft reset and power indicator changes from previous state to 100% value as it should. but it stays at 100% until another soft reset is done.
like each time i want to check battery status, i have to softreset. it's not normal

Okay folks, so first post to the forum, so hello all!
Now for my question; what are the known issues with this rom build, i.e. he latest version that he has posted. Wifi, Bluetooth, Software Compatibility, Soft Resets, post everything, I have read through everything on the thread, but after 70 something pages I don't think anyone can remember everything.
And, on a side note, my device is an iPAQ hx2490b, so folks who have the device, I'd appreciate if you help me out here, what amount of internal storage space are we left with after the Reflash and what amount of Ram are we left with after the reflash and whether or not there is a way to increase the amount of Ram at Startup?
And lastly, I'd like to ask whether or not upgrading the Windows Mobile OS on my iPAQ to this one from the stock WM 5 that it shipped with is a feasible idea or not? And if this Cooked Rom is not a feasible idea then is there any other comparable Cooked Rom that I should look at.
The Rom revision and Bootloader Version on my iPAQ is 1.02.00.H and a Bootstrap version 1.00.04.
Just another Question, can I downgrade to the stock WM 5 if I am not satisfied with this Rom revision, and if yes, then where from?
By the way, this would be my first ROM reflash if I do it so any tips would be highly appreciated.
Many Thanks To All The Helpful Folks Here.
Regards

I have tried the PhamQuang WM6.1 ROM, it has its strong points but at the same time it has some problems as well. One thing I noticed, it didn't seem to like Today Panel Pro (could be why it isn't pre-installed), although it seems to be quite a true WM6.1, or rather the latest build. Also present is Card Encryption, for storage cards/SD cards. There are some pre-installed programs, but space is not affected (I believe I had 13.03mb free after a reset, device is 64MB+64MB ROM/RAM.), but my main concern was the charging status bug and overall device speed. I still had the charging issues (probably due to TodayPanelPro), but speed seemed abit slower than tommy's (could also be due to latest ROM build).
I would say stick to tommy's, but they both have the charging status bug and dead CF bug, main issues to me. So what am I using at the moment? 4PDA WM6 ROM. It never failed me.

This may be a naive question but I have reviewed this thread and could not find an answer.
Both the "b" series and the other hx2000 series had a serious problem with battery life and the use of the SD card slot when running the first HP WM5 rom. Eventually HP issued upgraded ROMs which addressed these problems as well as other minor problems.
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=215348&prodSeriesId=421399&prodNameId=1105211&swEnvOID=2067&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ip-48280-1

Because of the differences between, for example, the hx2495 and the hx2495b, HP specifically indicated that the hx2495b could not use the hx2495 ROM and issued a specific "b" ROM.
Does Tommy's classic ROM for 6.1 contain the battery and SD card fixes that the HP upgrade ROMs contained? Equally important, can Tommy's classic 6.1 ROM be safely used on both the (for example) hx2495 and the hx2495b models?
There are many great things in WM6.1 (SDHC, greatly improved Pocket Word and Excel, etc) but I am concerned about the differences in the screen between the regular and the "b" models.
When I first loaded WM6.1 into my hx2495b, my iPAQ developed the fabled dead centre screen alignment bug. My screen worked everywhere except the centre. Consequently, since the startup routine requires setting the screen alignment, my iPAQ was useless.
If don't know if the problem was caused by the WM6.1 ROM or if my screen just happened to die at that moment. However, before I startup with my replacement screen, I would like to know if there is a problem in using a regular WM6.1 ROM on a "b" model, specifically my hx2495b!
Many thanks everyone for your assistance.

If I remember correctly, there have been earlier posts about the same inability to go past the screen alignment at first ROM install. I'd point you to which post, but my connection is dial-up slow so I'm not in the mood for that >__<
I do believe there was a solution for that though. But in my experience, I did not encounter any battery drain issue with tommy's ROM, as my device is a hx2415. Never tried a b model.

How to get passed the align screen part on first boot:
After a hard reset or a fresh ROM install simply hook your pda up to your computer and let activesync kick in. You do not need to set up a partnership at this time so go ahead and hit cancel.
Browse the device and go to the Windows/startup folder and delete the welcome file.
Soft reset and you are good to go!
Usually the middle of the screen on HP devices go out because of too much pressure on the middle of the screen. I used mine like that for a month and it was a pain. I just went ahead and bought a new screen for $40 or so off ebay and threw it in. Good as new!
