I would like to know if there is a problem in using a regular WM6.1 ROM on a "b" model, specifically my hx2495b!

Hi,

I've installed Tommy's ROM on my HX2490b without any problems.

No sign of any bugs. Not even the power & CF bug. My CF works.

Has anyone tested the SDHC yet?

I'm curious what the highest capeble capacity is.

And how about Transflash? Does that work?

Thanks.

Hi,

I own the Ipaq 2410 and I have followed directions exactly to install Tommy's WM6.1 rom, but like a number of other people on this thread, the "formatting ps" message stays on the screen. The progress bars travels all the way to the end of the screen and just stays there. If I reboot, as I have after over an hour with the formatting ps message still on the screen, a screen saying that wm6.1 is loading comes up, also with a progress bar.

Likewise, this progress bar takes about 20 min to travel all the way across and then just stops.

I have followed directions exactly multiple times and have come to the conclusion that there is some problem with the installation of this rom and the ps format procedure.

Has anyone gotten this to work?

Thanks
Larry

I see that many of you have problems with upgrading the rom when using windows vista, well here is the workaround to flash rom in windows vista (i tried almost 20 times and still works fine):

In device manager there is an device called "HP USB Sync", well force windows vista to install the drivers attached to this post. (just let windows vista search the drivers won't work cause you then get an error that the latest drivers are already installed on your computer.

the clue: you've just intalled activesync 4.* drivers wich where included in windows XP

Have fun!

P.S. let me know if it works for you!

Well I've been using Tommy's ROM since he first posted it, and have had a few problems over the last couple of days.

When I was closing programmes down, it appeared as though part of the closed programme was still viewable on my screen, no matter what I did. Only a reset would clear the screen.

Therefore, I did a hard reset and went back to how it was at the start. But now bluetooth won't come on :( It just gives me the message:
"The Bluetooth Radio failed to turn ON due to insufficient driver memory available. You must perform a normal reset before you can turn ON the Bluetooth Radio"

Anyone know how to sort the Bluetooth issue out? As performing a normal reset does not cure it. I have no programmes open, and have 35.63 of programme memory free, so can't understand it.

EDIT:

Yes i have ;
rename the BtCoreIf.dll file in the windows directory to something like BtCoreIf.old.

Bluetooth problem sorted :D

So just a matter of part of the screen still showing when I close an application down???

i have 2 problems:

1. when i shutdown my pda with the power button, i hear a knack sound and then my pda restarts as if a HW reset was done (i see that cause my clock is resetted also) that is very annoying. same problem when my pda shuts down itself after 2 mins, when my pda is always on, the battery only lasts for 3 hours. i can only clear my screen but that won't work either cause @ night my battery is empty.

above issue only occurs when power is not connected, when power is connected, everything works fine, same for USB

2. my SDIO wlan card does not work, it just does nothing, i have wm6 drivers but won't work, i tryed the wm5 drivers but also no response.

after half an hour i get the wireless sign, but i cannot connect to a wireless access point, i can see them but not connect

I installed PhamQuang ROM

I'd suggest posting this in the main forum, rather than in this thread. As this is specifically for the iPAQ hx2000 Series.

Upgrade went really easy. Thanks for the work that went into it.

However, I'm now unable to start microsoft reader. I get the internal error ID number 010. Big issue for me since reader is the most important app on my pocketpc.

Any suggestions?

anyone has already tried it ? how's that compared to tommy's ?
I'd like to have the right storage space for my device ( hx2750 ), 128 mb instead of 64 mb :( , and perhaps a clean rom . Maybe one day I'll try to cook with tommy's posted advices

Yes, I tried, I have hx2490 with 64+64 M, this ROM is faster than Tommy's, my best test software is Garmin Mobile XT with CF GPS Navilock and maps. With Tommy's ROM GMXT delayed 20 meters, with this ROM is difference between GPS and real position below 5 meters.
But I observed some problems in power management - my ipaq shut down after idletime 3 minutes, no matter on advanced power settings. Solution is simply - change registry value for BattSuspendTimeout to zero.
This ROM does'nt contain TodayPanel and SRS audio, but new PHM Regedit is perfect tool.

You might wanna try downgrade your rom to 1.00.00.H first. Make sure the ps-format process complete all the way, and let it boots (take a long long long long time). If it doesn't boot, don't bother upgrade it to wm6.1. Otherwise try upgrade your 2410 with 1.00.00.H rom to wm 6.1.

ps. most ppc won't allow direct downgrade L => H version. you need to swap the rom after hpruu check. You can get WM 5 H version from here http://files.pdamobiz.com/ROMs/HP/hx2xxx/Microsoft_Windows_Mobile_5_WWE.rar

Fist of all, thanks for all the work you all did to make this happen! I'm really glad I found this site and was able to do what HP failed to do: Upgrading my HX2790 to WM6.1! :p

OK, it took me a view weeks, mainly caused by the DIGITAL SIGN FAILED problem, but in the end it all worked out for me.

Because I read post of many others who had similar problems, I will describe here the method I used.

So I started with a HX2790 running WM5 with firmware version 1.00.00H. I tried to flash almost all the ROMs I found, but it always ended up with a DIGITAL SIGN FAILED message. Then I thought the digital sign is checked by the running firmware, so I need another base to start with. And that base seems to be SP33752 kit from HP. This kit also included a RUU (2.4.99.0) that did not need ActiveSync to have a connection with your device, so you can put your device in the White Screen Boot Mode (with was not a wide screen at my device, but the standard HP boot screen with at the bottom the text "Pre-BL: 1.00.00H") before you start RUU. I also tried SP32308, but that did not work.

Also remember to disable HP ProtectTools before you start. Especially when you don't now the encryption phrase you used when you enabled it! This will decrypt all the encryped data, including the data on your memory cards.

And here is the method I used with my HX2790:
1. Update firmware to 1.00.01H using RUU v2.3.002 (2.4.99.0 d.d. 07-09-2006, 15:36:32 in the SP33752 kit)

2. Put PDA in pre Boot Loader mode (Contacts, I-task, Power and Reset)

3. Connect PDA to USB and Power.

4. Press Calender

5. Start RUU v2.3.002 again

6. Continue to the point where you have to press the UPDATE button, but don't press it now.

7. Rename the original load file to something like WM5_WWE_1_00_01H.nbf_orig.

7. Rename or copy the load file containing the WM 6.1 firmware (a result from Tommy's kitchen in my case) to WM5_WWE_1_00_01H.nbf

8. Press the update button and wait until the update is finished (this can take up to 15 minutes!!!). Note that the progress bar is growing so slow that you have to mark it to see the difference.

I Hope this will help a lot of you experiencing the same problems.

Good luck,

Louk.

Hi,

I don't know the classic version, but Tommy's kitchen version lets you kook your personal boot room; you can choose the functions and programs you want to include in your ROM.

But I think it doesn't matter what the difference is, because I'm afraid that the 2200 series is not supported by these ROM's. I assume this series differ to much from the supported series:

Using a piece of hardware that is almost 4 years old is nowadays unthinkable. If you have a phone / camera / pda that is 1 year old you should start thinking about a newer model.

I bought my hx2110 and hx2790 4 years ago because they had the ability for a rom upgrade ... I was sad and angry that HP stopped ginving ROM upgrades for the hx models.

Upgrading using this forum to WM6 and a few months ago to WM6.1 ... is just really amazing. The device's are working as new.

Tommy you should be president.

Thank you again!

hey,

im trying to install athis for my hp ipaq hx2495. the instructions say that I have to boot into PreBL mode by holding the contacts, itask, and power button, then pressing the reset button on the bottom. the screen fades into a whitish gray colour, and i pressed the calender key. i put it in my cradle, but then nothing happens. the computer doesnt detect it, activesync doesnt detect it, and the ipaqs screen doesnt change. when i run RUU.exe, it just says that its unable to connect with activesync and that I have to plug in my pocket pc.

i tried without booting into PreBL mode and just updating while on the regular today screen, but RUU.exe just keeps telling me that a different ipaq was detected and that I need to reset the device and leave it in the cradle for the whole time.

any ideas how to fix this, anyone?

thanks,

Hi, first great effort by Tommy and everyone else here. I'm not sure if this thread is being read anymore, but have a question about Tommy's ROM. It installed fine, and my 2795 looks like it's working great. However, I don't see Mobile Office on my device. I couldn't tell my the description if Tommy's ROM included office or not, but was kind of expecting it to be there.

So...if Office is supposed to be in Tommy's ROM, can someone explain why I don't see it on my 2795? If it's not supposed to be there, kindly say so and I'll shut up :).

Thanks!

UPDATE: I just found Office Mobile. It's in the Start Menu, but not in the Programs window.

Try this-

How to reset and reload your iPAQ 2xxx series PPC
CAUTION: If you perform a hard reset, your Pocket PC loses all data and
programs not saved in iPAQ File Store.
To flash your Hx2xxx series PPC follow the steps:
1. Take your pda to PreBL mode (hold contact+itask+power and then lightly press
reset, after about two second unhold remaing buttons) The screen will be
white. After that press calendar.
2. Now connect your pda to craddle and plug the cable to AC and then to PC, you
will hear beep from pc (USB Device connected).
3. Run hpRUU.exe.
4. Make clean reset (hold calendar + itask, then press and hold reset), after
about two seconds you will hear knack. Now unhold these buttons. The screen
will be black.
5. After that make hard reset (hold callendar + messaging + power and then
press and hold reset) after about two seconds unhold reset button first and
after about one seconds remaining buttons. You will see on screen PS FORMAT.
6. Now is you iPAQ ready.

I'm surprised you didn't make a brick of it. The only two models that are sure to be compatible with each other are the hx2450/hx2475 (original) and hx2490/hx2790 [implied "a" revision]. The hx2?90b introduced RoHS compliancy and therefore has different drivers since hardware changed. the hx2?90c, still in production at this time, adds a larger internal persistant store of ~512MB but uses a different mdoc as I understand it.

Best,

Mike

I started having this problem about two weeks ago. All of a sudden the clock just started racing ahead.

I've been using Kozhura's ROM on original hx2750 (the one with 128MB RAM) without issue for about 4 months. I noticed if I remove battery and wait a while so it resets the clock to 2005, then as long as I don't turn it off it works fine. When I power off then later power on, it will be the year 2040 or something :P

Good to know it may not be dead entirely. I will try hard reset. Thanks!

Weird - if I go to Clock & Alarm settings the time is also constantly changing. Even if I change the GMT settings.

I will reflash my device....

EDIT: Problem is solved after a reflash...

Question for dpdurst:

I was wondering if you have the PDAViet WM 6.0 rom for hx2000 series. I've been looking all over for that one and it's just not... locatable. The best those people can come up with is a split archive, one half on their forum and the other half on a most-likely-dead rapidshare link. Or anyone else who has it, kindly share a link? Thanks much.

I am also wondering about the ROM you are using, MikeInHouston. The Kozhura ROM, did he make a WM6.0/WM6.1 rom too? If so, do you know where you got it? I appreciate a link.

Also, if anyone bricked their iPAQs, I may have stumbled upon the secret Factory jump start that can turn on an iPAQ that will not turn on, or one that cannot charge even when you plug it in. I was able to use this method when I flashed a rx1715 ROM to my HX2415. As my last device, I didn't want to lose it and I was able to turn it back on. I might post the process if anyone is interested in reviving a bricked hx2000 series device (It's a lengthy process that doesn't even require much)

thanks for replying roro69, but I already have that one (it was posted here earlier). What I'm looking for is the WM6.0 rom from PDAviet, not WM6.1, and on their forums even their links are dead. Surely someone must have kept it on a better file hosting somewhere.,..

Anyone know how to get a hx2490b to go to PreBL? I try the power+calendar+itask then reset and it makes lines on the display, then goes all white, never rebooting. Works fine on the regular hx2490, but not the b for some version. Any hints?

Just installed a cooked ROM on my hx2490b; I had the same issue as you, when pressing the preBL key combo I only got a bunch of color lines on the screeen. About 1 minute after that, the screen was an ugly and scary brown-greenish.

I repeated the procedure to no avail, then decided to risk flashing:

1- hold contact+itask+power and then lightly press reset, after about two second unhold remaing buttons --> the screen goes rainbow and then muddy green
2- blindly press calendar as tommy's directions state. No text on the screen, no visible change
3- connect pda to AC and to usb --> the pc doesn't beep, but a "new usb devices" message pops up on the pc system tray.
4- run hpRRU, the application correctly indentifies my device as hx2490b
5- when finished flashing, the device booted with the new OS
6- just in case, as tommy suggests, do a clean reset and then a hard reset
7- works like a charm!

Thank you very much tommy and all the people involved!
xda developers has brought new life to 2 of my portable devices, and there's one more coming, I can't wait to put my hands on it

Hello there, good morning.

First of all, big thanks to Tommy_Adsl, mate, you truly are a great man :-)
We need to stop for a moment here and think about what this guy is doing for us, without asking for anything back, that's pure goodness.

My case, I've got an HP iPaq hx2750, which up until last night had the original Windows 2003 HP ROM, but thanks to Tommy it's got now WM 6.1.
I used the ROM from the very first page of this post, and followed instructions step by step to the end, no problems whatsoever doing so, it all went perfectly fine.
Really happy with it, it goes faster, I've got more RAM available for Programs and Storage, everything looks and seems faster!!! what else could I ask?

The problem, Wireless won't work, and I've tried everything, my Wireless Router at home which I configured myself and my 3 laptops (and 3 desktops with LAN cable) use with no problems, and the Wireless at my work place, which I use with my work laptop fine and I have the details for anyway, since I work in the IT department.
It sees the Wireless pretty soon, that's not the problem, and with the right signal strength, but when trying to connect to it, it just won't, it says "Connecting", and then goes to "Available" state again after a few seconds trying to connect to it.
Wireless at work is WPA2-PSK, and mine at home I tried configuring the Router with both WPA and WPA2, but had no luck with none of them...

Everything else in the ROM works fine so far, not that I've had much time to test it yet though, but it all looks fine, the only problem is this Wireless issue, and for my it's a bit too important to get it sorted.

Any help/info with this will be appreciated, thanks much :-)

Hi there, good night.

Have tried now another 3 more ROMs, all from links from this post and the net, same result, all work more or less the same, but the wireless wont connect.
The iPaq sees the wireless, but wont connect to any of them, none my work or home ones...
I think none of the WM6.1 ROMs around work with WPA or WPA2 wireless, at least not the 4 ROMs I've tried so far...
I'm trying later on tonight with a WM6 ROM, lets see if that makes the Wireless work, if not I'll have to go back to the awful Windows 2003 one.

If you updated 1.02h, you are closed from the success. Use and follow the same procedure you used to update to 1.02h except that:
1- Start the update (like if you wanted to update again to 1.02h), until you are asked to a final confirmation "Select Update below to begin the ROM update process. DON'T PRESS UPDATE NOW.
2- Rename the 1.02h rom file (.nbf) to any name
3- Copy your WM6.1 rom file (.nbf) in the 1.02h update forder and rename it using the previous 1.02h rom image (.nbf) file name
4- PRESS UPDATE NOW.

After the update, you machine will probably not restart. Do a format PS by pressing Calendar + Message + Power button + Reset for 6 seconds, the format PS will start automaically and your machine will boot.

I did it many times as I am working on solving a Blueooth HandFree issue by modifying the ROM.

Let me know ...

I've sucessfully flashed my hx2410 rom with 4 different versions of wm6.1. They all worked great, definitely heaps faster than wm5. But only 1 main issue, TomTom 7.910 either says not enough memory, or it's so slow it's unbearable! Anyone knows a fix for it? Works fine in wm5, so i've flashed back to wm5 for now.

Anyone got a clue?

Hello, I installed WM6 following this guide and everything works fine, except for one detail. I can't configure Hotmail on Outlook e-mail. It always opens a web browser with the Windows Live Mobile homepage. Other accounts like Gmail work fine. It's weird because I had Hotmail working on WM5 and I can use Windows Messenger on WM6 without problems.
I made some research and found a different installation of Windows Live for WM6. I installed it and it makes Hotmail work, but Messeger is gone. I even tried with a hard reset and the problem persists.
Is there a solution to this? A patch, perhaps?
Thanks

I have the version WM6.1 Build 19199.1.0.0 on my hx2490b, and I have problems with the e-mail.
I can receive but not send.
When I try to send a message, i see the following error: The message(s) could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. Than try again.
The configuration of the mail is correct (on the PC work), the provider of mail as the line is Alice.it, I receive the mail without any problems, and coverage of WiFi signal is very good.
When I had WM5, everything worked
Yep that build is bad, try another build..

Which version of WM6 or later, you recommend me to use?

Tried to fiddle around with the rayfile site, still not understanding how to d/l it. Seems they want you to d/l a client, but I can't say I'm to keen on that idea. If anyone has this, or has a detailed way of d/l it please share.

I've been following this from the beginning and I don't think anyone has gotten much more than that out of this ROM for the old school versions. I went ahead and bought a new version of the 2495 and I end up with about 70 megs after install.

I have not seen a solution for this, and I've read from beginning to end.
I flashed Tommys (thanks btw) WM6.1 onto a 2495b. Everything runs great and have encountered no real problems, except for Messaging does not allow adding accounts, cannot create new appointments or tasks. Other than those 3 things, everything is perfect. Has anyone else come across this with a solution? Thanks.

Hi,

Can someone help me with my predicament - I've followed all the posts here & elsewhere & followed the instructions to the dot, but for some unkown reason my iPAQ HX2790b refuses to boot into PreBL mode. Contacts + iTask + Power button & then reset - the screen changes to white & then turns to grey. But thats as far I get. The unit stops responding after that inspite of connecting to AC & then USB & pressing the Calendar button (I've tried both combinations of pressing Calendar before & after connecting to AC & USB). The unit just remains in the blank grey screen mode with absolutely no display of any kind, untill I press the Mail button which restarts the iPAQ. Any similar experiences for anyone ? Please help ! I'm dying to get rid of the buggy WM5 & upgrade to WM6.1. Thanks.

Rom works well just installed it.

If you can do that for that build you should be able to fix the language in the chinese WM6.5 rom. Give it a try as you know theres demand for a hx2000 6.5 ENG rom.

The stuck in Windows start screen usually happens when the translation files are not for this device and the responsible for this is the file shellres.dll.0409.mui. So you can test the rom without replace that file(rename the original if it isn't 0409) and see if the device boots.
Hope this helps you to solve the problem.

I should have posted this long time ago, but better now than never while I have this chance to go online, since some people were asking about this.

A few notes you should remember, that my device is an HX2415 model that originally had WM2003SE. Now I do believe there are different degrees of brickage, in my case I bricked my device by flashing a different device ROM OS instead of a hx2000 series one.

So, let's clear up a few things. You do agree that my instructions are not entirely 100% accurate, and that you take sole responsibility of whatever happens on your end. You also agree that you are operating on my instruction on your own free will and that I did not threaten you in any way or form humanly possible. Finally, you agree that your device is bricked, you sought my remedy, so what do you have to lose? Until you've tried all possibilities, in my opinion, no device is dead till then.

So, on with the stuff.

HX2415 unbricking instructions (may work on the entire hx2000 series, but I have read that those with the "b" are/were manufactured differently, so these instructions MAY not work for you)

What you'll need:

-A bricked hx2000 device.
-OPTIONAL: A second working hx2000 series device. (We'll get to this part later)
-That horribly designed, USB Sync/Power plug combo cable.
-Power adapter to "charge" the ipaQ. Stick this into the USB Sync/Power cable.
-A star shaped screwdriver, or whatever that shape is on those screws that hold the device together.
-Flat tip screwdriver.
-A clear workspace beside your computer.
-Calm hands.
-A WinXP OS computer with an available USB port. (I don't have Vista so I wouldn't know...)
-A working OS ROM image, preferably one from HP, as we will want to flash a new OS using the hpRUU, ja?

Uh, that's all I can remember needing. I'll once again clarify that these instructions may not work for you, and that you will proceed on your own free will.

So, first open up your device, starting with removing the battery cover, then removing the battery, then start with the silver screw on the right side (We'll assume you're holding the unit upright viewing it's back), then proceed with the two black screws at the bottom. This next part will be tricky if your device is brand new or like new, and if you've never opened it before (I opened mine many times will modding my gaming d-pad setup).
Those two rubber-ish things on the side have to be pulled out, I recommend starting on the right side since we removed that silver screw earlier, remember? I recommend placing your right hand's thumb on the top, and using your left hand and a flat tip screwdriver try to nudge that slot that looks like it's holding a tab from the rubber-ish side plate, then use your right hand to pull the rubber-ish thing out, preferably slowly (yes, I broke mine the very first time I opened this, but as expected of HTC/HP components it still holds)
Don't bother trying to remove the silver screw on the left side. It's really just attached to the plastic casing. Proceed to remove this rubber thing on the left using the previous procedure used on the right side.

So, once those are gone, the HX2415 looks funny, doesn't it? You will then notice two screws on the top, each on either side of the device. Remove those, and carefully, using your flat tip screwdriver, nudge the back plating near those clips on the sides that are holding the front plate to the back, and separate one of the clips, if you want proceed to do so with the rest of the clips, I myself just use my hand to pry the back lid off. Now, you're presented with the main circuit board of the hx2415. Don't worry, our surgeon's operation ends on this. What we need to do is disconnect the backup battery, you can tell what it is as it's on the right, below the mic plug(that is the second from the top, tiny cable that is located on the lower right of the unit). Remember, holding the device upright, looking at it's back. Once you've disconnected the backup battery, here comes the main part.

Put the back plate back on, we'll need to hold the device. Plug in your power cable and plug the adapter into a wall outlet. Yes, without the main battery or backup battery. No, I never short circuited the power in my house nor have I experienced any blackout, but if you don't want to risk such things, proceed to stop. Remember, at the time this hx2415 was my only device, and I had to save it ASAP. Anyways, once your ipaQ is plugged in, proceed to enter pre-bootloader mode, I believe that's reset button+calendar+iTask. This part you may have to shuffle the process around a bit, like press the hardware buttons before the reset button, or vice versa. This is where I'm unsure of whether or not it'll work for you. As you might have known, the early models had the HP bootloader screen. The latter (or maybe just the "b" series) had a white screen bootloader. Anyways, what happens next is you should be hearing that typical Hard Reset click the ipaQ makes, but this will happen in rapid succession. When that happens, put the main battery back in(it might be tricky for you, one hand holding the reset button, and the other hand to slip the main battery in. The purpose is to keep the clicks going until the main battery is in). No, I didn't get an electric shock but if you want to be safe wear rubber gloves. (again, I was desperate to revive my only functional device left) The unit should then boot to the bootloader screen. Congratulations, you now... still need to load an OS, as the device is dead on you unplug it. Connect the USB cable into an available USB port and you should hear that familiar "USB device connected" sound that Windows plays(if not, press the calendar button). Run the hpRUU of the OS you want to load. Here's the part that can work two ways:

If your device was bricked like mine (incorrect OS flash) then you will most likely encounter that incorrect device language error. This is where I had to get a hx2495b device from my brother since I didn't read up on the method posted here somewhere about how to flash an ENG language ROM onto another language device. If you know the fix on how to flash an english language ROM onto a say, French language device then you won't need a second hx2000 device.

Anyways, once you've gotten past the incorrect device language error, proceed to flash a WORKING OS. Do not flash what caused a brick in the first place, in my case I flashed HP's hx2415 WM2003SE ROM (Tomahawk 1.10.09 ENG).

If your device downloads the ROM, congrats. But, it doesnt end there. See, we need to put that backup battery back lol. Do so once the ROM has flashed and the device finished booting and installing. I'm sure you can reverse the process of the above instructions on how to put the device back together.

Final notes:
I'm guessing HP must have built this un-bricking feature into the device, something maybe only the factory workers know. For whatever purpose, I don't know, but I know it worked for me and it kinda restored faith I had in HP devices of old being made of some really tough stuff (I've dropped the hx2415 several times, a potential killer moment when I dropped it on a concrete-brick path, causing the plastic around the headphone jack to crack and fall apart. Guess what? The device still turned on, no screen break, and I proceeded with my WiFi browsing)

Who knows, maybe this is how they flash the device for the first time. The flash chips certainly aren't built with the ROM image already in them lol...

Lastly, I thought of something throughout the time I was desperately trying to find a solution (trust me, I found NONE online). I thought, "Hey, this device is like, so dead. Whatever I do can either fix it, or bury it for good, but I've got work to do, and with no repair centers nearby capable of reviving an old, outdated (parts-wise) device, I've got to do whatever it takes to get this screen to turn back on!"

I had to go through with it because I had a reputation called "The Repairman", as I had previously fixed a Digital Camera that wouldn't charge, and I did a risky manual battery swap from an Palm E2 to an HP ipaQ rz1715 (the rz1715 now works btw).

I hope my unbricking solution that worked for me works for you too. Because I know how tough it is to have my work cut short when a device dies.

(Hope I didn't typo/omit any words here, the littlest mistake could hurt >_> bon voyage!)

Sorry to write the next text in spanish but is about of wm6.1 for hx2000 in spanish.

Thanks for your understanding.

Not sure if Tommy even checks this thread anymore, but wanted to post "Thanks!" anyways!

I had never installed a new ROM on a device and with his directions this was so easy!

My 2495b is finally useful for the first time in it's life. I added PocketCM Keyboard and it now makes a great email pad for chilling outside.

The funny thing is that the TCPMP benchmark blows away my Tilt. 308% verses 150%! Awesome!

Thanks again Tommy!

Anyone know how to get a hx2490b to go to PreBL? I try the power+calendar+itask then reset and it makes lines on the display, then goes all white, never rebooting. Works fine on the regular hx2490, but not the b for some version. Any hints?

Same frustrating thing here. My 2490b goes white and beep after Calendar, everything, but never shows the "USB sync device" only "unknown device" in Device Manager. And therefore Error 503.

Any hints? hardware issue?http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

I just verified what you are seeing on a hx2000c, the screen fades, the backlight remains somewhat on, but there is no video. Attach the cable and XP doesn't even see it. I don't even get unrecognized device.

No problem. Use Btn2 + Btn4 + Reset as you did. After the screen goes wacko, with no other buttons pressed, then press Btn1 (Calendar) and attach the cable. XP now sees the device, at least for me.

I keep getting the following error when using Windows Live - "Windows live was unable to establish an internet connection...." - However, I have WiFi working, and I have a very strong signal. What is the problem, and how do I fix it?

Also, for some strange reason, I cannot add an appointment to calendar - It says and unexpected error occured. Also, when trying to create a new task, I get an error message saying "No program memory available....", and when I go to do the fix as it says in the pop up message, it still does not fix the error. I even tried doing a soft reset and a hard reset - nothing works! How do I fix these errors? It worked before with Windows Mobile 5 on my hp hx2490. Anyways, is there a fix to this?

Another note - Contacts dosn't even start up!

Do I need to re-install the 6.1 update( I used the hpruu.exe from spiatti's 6.5 update, and then switch the ROMs before hitting "Update" - This is becuase I kept getting Incorrect device SKU for this version's hpruu.exe

Just reflash your device with wm6.5 again. Make sure you make a soft reset and then a hard reset after flashing ends. After a proper hard reset "Formatting PS" should appear onscreen.

Thanks for your reply - All the problems are fixed now, except for one. That one is the Windows Live problem. It still says "Windows live was unable to establish an internet connection...", and I the message won't go away, even though I resetted the device a few times, and have a strong connection to the internet via wifi.

I may be setting up the wifi incorrectly, however. First, I turned on the wifi button in iPAQ Wireless. Then, I installed Odyssey Client, and configured the network settings(It supports security modes iPAQ Wireless does not). Thus, the wifi button in iPAQ Wireless turned green, and I got a notification asking what the network card connects to(I anwered Internet - the other option was "My Work"). After all this, I connected to the internet via wifi. Do I need to do any other setup to get windows live to reconigze this?

Hi, this is my first post here. I've installed Tommy's ROM in my hx2190b. took a few attempts to work out, but a big thanks as this is one of the few that seems to go from wince5.0 using hp's last bootloader 1.02.00h, and back to 5.0 no problems and no bricks!

I migrated away from oem 5.0 because I got fed up trying to get reliable audio and calendar alarms. Tommy's rom works faultless for all audible alarms.

However, I've been using audio BT devices, Headsets and a remote speaker booster for the car satnav ok on wince5.0. Neither of these devices seem to link to the AV service via BT anymore, messages like 'no service found' come up. I managed to get one AV device to link with Tommy's rom, but the audio was digital hash. A second device registered with a load of gibberish characters under the icon device name. I have no problem pairing to BT serial BT devices like my sat receiver.

Both wince5.0 and wince6.1 use a Widcomm BT stack. The earlier oem is BT driver 1.7.1.1424 and Tommy's is a later 1.7.1.9807

My question for those playing with roms for the hx2000/kx2100 ipaqs (ninguno?) is are you getting any AV connectivity bia BT? I can use my Motorola BT headset with wince5.0 for Skype, but so far have no AV connectivity on later cooked roms.

Has anybody got a BT headset working on these ipaqs with a modified rom?

I had a look at Tommy's kitchen as a real beginner and wondered if a later rom can be built with an earlier BT stack (if I knew where to get it!), I think not, because the kitchen seems to contain the later pre built images and dll's, but somebody help me if I'm wrong.

I'm thinking if the BT stack version and hardware for the older ipaqs may be matched to get AV BT services to work and this is the one service that may not work if a later rom is installed.

Any help would be appreciated as I have two hx2190's. They are too good to throw away or buy new and work a lot better now, even as alarm clocks.

Thanks

Many file are corrupted !!!

I'm an absolute newbie but I've been flashing my iPAQ hx2190b with all different options from 'Tommy's kitchen 2 bugs'.

I've now tried WM6.5 with a 'conservative' selection of oem apps.

Absolutely no probs building and installing the rom. These are the areas I use which don't work for me in WM5.0, DO work in 6.1 and now 6.5:

Reliable calendar, clock alarms and audio notifications particularly with custom 20second wav files.
TomTom navigator linked to BT satnav receiver on serial com port
High quality AV audio BT link to headsets and in-car amplifier.

However, my available program memory under WM6.1 was around 29Mb. Now running under WM6.5 with a minimal set of apps cooked in the rom, my free program memory is 18Mb. TomTom still takes about the same time to load from a flash card and map browsing is about the same speed.

I liked the slide screen menu selection of WM6.5 which is better to use with the finger, but unless there are advantages I haven't found yet, I am leaning back to WM6.1 for my hx2190b. But then I'm just a beginner looking for a reliable Calendar, satnav and BT AV audio from my rather old iPAQ.

A big thank you to Tommy for his original kitchen. It took me a while to work out I could only run the kitchen under my XP if I renamed the start.cmd to start.bat. and read the file to work out what the script was doing, whilst waiting a loooong time during the G'reloc phase, but then I'm not an expert at these things.

Hope this helps somebody.

HP iPAQ HX2000 Series WM6.5 - 5.2.23007 WWE - WM6.5.SPv3 by Spiaatie (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=519296)

Cheap
30th July 2009, 08:39 AM
I installed 6.1 with the 19199 build and, so far, it is working *flawlessly* on my hx2755.

I jumped right from 2003SE to 6.1 and the installation went without a hitch, though I was briefly worried because instead of the "white screen" I was getting an HP screen (a la the usual startup loading bar with my old "1.10.09 ENG" notation) saying "Pre-BL" something or other and "1.02". Nevertheless, I rolled with that screen instead of the pure white one I was expecting, and all went well.

And it works *FLAWLESSLY*, I say.

I report this primarily to share the concept with others who might happen upon this thread as I did a few days ago. I'd been thinking of upgrading to the HP stock WM5 ROM released ages ago, but I saw assorted complaints about speed and whatnot. I searched elsewhere and found this thread, and also the new 6.5 release thread. I remained uncertain whether to proceed, then finally decided to go ahead and do it, and while the 6.5 was attractive I decided to go for the more tested 6.1. Now I am glad I did.

Pros:

1. Battery life is vastly improved.
2. It is not slow. In some respects it is very much faster (e.g. those funny screens where it searches the whole device for files of a particular type).
3. One thing that drove me completely batshit insane was how sloppy Pocket PC 2003 was with file installation. Files could be installed all over the place, especially if you had the audacity to try to put it on an SD card. Even with a CAB file installation modifier I had, it could still be a mess since some programs would wig out if you tried to install them somewhere else. Windows Mobile 6.1 does not have this problem.
4. It knows how to set up GMail all by itself.
5. It knows that's a storage card, not a CF card.
6. YOU CAN READ SDHC without a freaky SDHC->CF adapter!
7. You've known for a long time that there was a huge amount of software you just couldn't run, because some people don't make their stuff for less than WM5. Well, it's time to 'fess up that it isn't their fault for not doing it, 'cause here's a free way to get the goods that'll run it.

Cons:

1. I have lost a few specific items from the old ROM. There was a network printing setup of some kind which the new ROM does not have, so far as I know. But for me this is so incredibly minor that I couldn't care less ... I note it merely for others who might freak out.
2. MultiIE does not work. That makes me very sad . . . I'd gotten *very* used to it, and frankly I am shocked that the WinMo developers didn't include its functionality ever . . . this "6 on 6" they're talking about better have such or they'll be laughed at. But I digress . . . go Opera, or maybe Skyfire (if they ever get the bookmarks working).
3. You'll spend countless hours shopping around the internet for all that kickbutt software you couldn't run before and don't even remember the names of now.

Anyway, yes, do it . . . it's easy and cheap. And so am I.

Btw, nobody really wants a whitescreen when flashing.

It means that your iPaq has no bootable rom anymore.
You should have the pre-BL state, which is perfectly normal.

If your flash somehow failed then please read my earlier post, if you ever want to recover your iPaq.

So, be glad you didn't have a whitescreen :-)

Hi all!

yesterdag I bougt an hx2750 as replacement for my old 2210. Most of all because I knew about this upgrade. After buying I started with the update.
My PC runs Windows 7 and therefore has Windows Mobile Center instead of Active Sync. When I pressed itask + contacts + reset I got to the pre-Bl: 1.00.02 state. After that I pressed the calender button and USB appears at the bottom right of the Ipaq screen together with a sound in my computer. At the "Devices and printers" section HP USB sync appears, however Windows Mobile Center doesn't recognize my Ipaq. What should I do? I also tried it on my old laptop with XP and Activesync --> same problem. Could something be wrong with this Ipaq?

[...]

Could something be wrong with this Ipaq?

The upgrade procedure on my hx2750 also differs. All I had to do was the following:

- hard reset
- reboot the PDA normally and connect it to the computer
- no need to go through the 'screen alignment' stuff, leave it as is
- start the upgrade

During the upgrade the screen on the PDA looked very weird (colours all over the place), but you will notice the flashing is in progress. Over here it took about 15 minutes to complete the upgrade (USB 1.1 ports).

A note about the 'official' flashing method: In my case, if the hx2750 is configured in preBL mode the device is not detected anymore by Windows, ActiveSync or the upgrade program.

Thanks dxdy for your input, you helped me a lot. I did not write in my previous post that my IPAQ is French. I had it at a very low price in Canada (surplus in BC, go figure). As I understand French, it was a too good a deal to let by. So the Rom update you indicated was for the English units. I already had the latest French update.

Now the good news is following your post, I decided to rerun the latest French Rom update. I then reran the HPRRU (WM6.1 from Post 1) in Pre-BL mode and the unit did not connect with my IPAQ. I noticed that when I ran the French Rom Update in normal mode, it switched automatically my IPAQ to Pre-BL mode and did the Rom check and update after. I then launched the ROM update again, let it do its checking and when the update & cancel buttons appeared; I switched the Rom (nbf file from post 1) and hit the upgrade button.

I now have a working WM6.1 HX2790 in English. I am so happy…. I will now go play with it.

Thanks again dxdy for putting me on the right track. You reminded me to rerun the Rom update.

download the link below. whichever you like.
you have to trick the ipack so that it goes into preBL. follow the stips i discribed word by word and wyou will get it.
press Contact+Task+reset for 2 sec. your ipaq screen will fade to white and go to PreBL. put the ipac in the cradle and press the calender key. you hear a usb ring on the pc. that means you are ready to flash your ipaq with the WM6.1. run the hpRUU.exe file after unzipping the link below and follow the pc on secreen instructions

I been reading about this and no luck. is it possible to sync my PDA using wifi. from what I was searching it is not possible after ActiveSync 4+ was released. I have 2490b and i tried to put ROM 2003se on it and I installed Activesync 3.7 to use this option.
this did not work, the screen went to black. I can hear the klicks on the ipaq and i can use MyMoble software to see it on the PC no problem. also, i coald get the screen activated if I start the wifi option. the screen is not alighned and it is shifted to the right.

If there is someone that can help or has experienced when rolling back from WM5.0 to 2003se and knows the fix that will be great.

the whole idea is to sync my iPAQ throw wifi.

Is ther other 3rd party program other than activesync that can do this

Hi All,
HP iPAQ hx2110 Frozen at Boot Screen
Can someone help me with this problem? My trusty PDA has become alien. It will not respond after a soft reset or a hard reset. After a soft/hard reset it freezes at the “HP iPAQ Pocket PC” welcome screen. Is there anything I can? My laptop does not recognises that it is connected.
Cheers

I'm running Alkor build 21054
bluetooth is working (I can initiate a connection from the laptop) but as soon as I try and select connect from the ipaq it says there is no bluetooth hardware installed

wireless wont work unless I use wep. wpa-psk on the router wont connect. The ipaq can see it but never actually connects. I'm also stuck with b - I cant use b+g for wireless (I tried the psk patch, didnt work)

windows 7 refuses to connect even though the ipaq when cradled says connected
(yes I tried the usb drivers for vista) - but there is no network connections in win 7 just the hp usb sync under mobile devices

I decided I'd wasted too much time and effort just to get it half working that I'd go back to 2003. plugged it into an xp machine and then it says that I'm using batteries (its charging in the cradle) and it wont let me reflash

Is it just me running into no end of issues?
All I'd like to do is sync via bluetooth, surf wirelessly using wpa-psk and sync consistently under windows 7 using the cradle

Has anyone managed to get any of the above working and if so which rom and link to guide?)

PS I'm using wm6.winmobile.us/hpmain.html to get my sw

I know it's been a month, but nevermind. Try doing a PS Format. Hold Down Power+Calender+Mail and hit reset (I think that's it anyway, google it, I CBA)

Is it possible to downgrade from wm 6.5 to 6.1?

Sure. Just run the official HP WM5 RUU (1.00.00H and then 1.00.02H), and then upgrade to WM6.1.
