It's my first post here. Done a lot of reading but still couldn't find the answer to this.
I got a sim locked T-Mobile Wing from T-Mobile. Still waiting for the unlock code. This could take a long time for my case. Should I wait until I get the code and unlock the Wing before flashing ROM??? I am very eager to play with the custom ROM's a lot of people are using.... If I do it now, will it cause problem later when I try to sim unlock???

What problem did you have? I thought if you do Sim Unlock first, there shoudn't be any problem. I am just worried about if I flash the phone first, the unlock code I will get from T-Mobile later might not work. Can anyone comment on this? Thanks.

i sim unlocked then flashed
the unlock code is stored in the phone operating system not on the sim card
but dont worry the phone will always recogize the unlock code every time u flash it. it never changes unless you hack your imei

So I don't have to unlock now and can go ahead to upgrade ROM and then unlock later with the new ROM? Just want to confirm. Thanks.

yes you can flash before sim unlock. I have a wing and its not sim unlocked and I can flash and go back to stock with no problems.

that doesn't make sense.. everytime you flash your flashing a new operating system. theres no way the sim unlock code is part of the operating system.

It Probably Makes More Sense To Me
Basically With The Unlock Code Your Unlocking The Phone Not The Sim Card So It Is Saved To The Phone When You Flash The Phone You Erase Everything On The Phone

This is exactly why I am reluctant to flash it now since I have not unlocked the phone yet.
I know that, with some other phones like motorola, even if you have unlocked the phone, but if you flash with a wrong stock, you can lock it again and it is very difficult to unlock later...
Can anybody else share their experiences about the Wing?

If you follow this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358225 you can unlock your phone without worrying about the code from T-mo. You will be able to flash any ROM you choose. Just follow it to the letter. Worked great for me.
My main reason to flash was because of all the memory the stock ROM sucked. You'll be amazed by the chefs in the forum. :D

The unlock is not in the phone's operating system... its in the phone hardware. I think many will get confused if you are telling them its in the OS since you flash the OS when you flash the ROM.
Everyone should know that the IMEI is hardware based like the MAC address of the phone. To change the IMEI would not only break US law's but would void you from unlocking it from a service provider. Flashing a ROM will not change the IMEI.
