I had a feeling this was possible! THANK YOU FREEPK! The next question is anyone offering to do this as a service? I would definately pay good money to do this (and also upgrade to WinMo 6.1 whenever a perfect version is ready... and also maybe SDHC working with wifi)

another question freepk (if you still read this thread)...
Did you have to make a customised ROM to recognise the new amount of RAM?

Sorry all for long pause.

For RAM upgrade u just need two things
1) Hardware chips upgrade, i use two HYB25L512160AC-7.5 (like in other devides, Uni, 4700, Axim)
2) Patched NK.EXE in XIP, i made test firmware for this - http://4pda.ru/forum/attach/1592182/n560.128mb.rar

Without software patch u will work fine with new chips, but OS can use just 64mb.

U can also try translate this thread with google - http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=75722

Can you tell us how to patch WM6 to make this work?

Google translate is not doing a very good job, so the 2.5V and 1.8V is not an issue?

i think freepk's earlier post mentioned something about a patch. have you tried that?

Also, can you tell us where you were able to buy the ram and the technique you used to swap them?

That's a fantastic idea to find a repair center to upgrade the ram!!! by the way, how much did you pay to get the upgrade done?

about the patch, i don't know the exact solution, but here's what I found http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_128MBRAM. seems like tweaking the NK.exe in the ROM is the way to go.... perhaps try contacting newplow on his website for the WM6 series about it.

Keep us updated for any developments!

Hi Skyline

I payed 79€ for the upgrade.
I already asked newplow about the guest book some days ago for an patched WM6 version but the translation from Russian to English about Google is very bad. So i'm not sure what he really answered. I think the best way is when freepk tell us how to patch the mk.exe.

Hi RAYMOND A

Here is the URL from the repair center : http://www.srsgmbh.de/index_.html
After the Ram upgrade made by the repair center you have to flash the ROM yourself to an patched wm5 version. I'm pretty sure i used the ROM from freekpk (look for the attachment on the first side).

As i can read on the translated Russian side (http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=75722) the are incompatibilities between the 128MB and the 64MB chips.

Hi Cyborger
Well... he answer that he does not plan to create specific software for N560 with 128Mb onboard. He bored with physical changes in his PDA :)

In fact a lot of users ask him to create this firmware. I belive it will be created. His firmware is the best of all I have tested, so if this 128Mb-firmware will not be created it will be very sad. I hope Newplow will change his decision. But in any case - I will not use any other firmware:rolleyes:.

PS
WM 6.1 available on Newplow website! It much faster (IMHO) than WM6.0-33. Very nice bild i think!

Hi Guys did this last week, and now on working WM6.1.

What I did:-
1. Active sync My Documents + any other file eg SPB Finance DB.
1a. I also used the new Windows Device Center 6.1 on my vista partition
2. Removed SD Card
3. Removed any Lock on N560
4. Run the flash program
5. WM6.1 up and running in 5 mins
6. Reloaded all my apps manually. No need for anything else. No Reg tweek etc.

I am desperately looking for a possibility to upgrade my n560 to 128MB RAM. But as I red an edited OS is the only way to get the upgrade working. I've searched the whole web, but couldn't find anything similar, except for the WM5 provided on page 1.

Has anybody already managed to fix a WM6 or WM6.1 to work with 128MB RAM?

You seem pleased to move to 6.1, but there are a couple of serious "bugs" which Newplow knows about and seems reluctant to get rid of.... one is that in the Messaging program no emails can be read or created (ugh). The second is more dangerous. The Encryption program does the reverse of what it should. It is ticked by default (which means it is OFF), if you untick it (which means it is ON), your N560 will produce a file with a "menc" extension and any files you have on SD will become unreadable on other devices, PCs etc. Shame!

Because of this I reverted to release 035 of WM6.0 from him and that works OK.

Your post is very interesting, but did you post it in this thread by accident or is this something to do with a 128Mb N560?

Hi guys,

i'm Murmucka, from Hungary (sorry for my bad english pls)
I want to upgrade my loox N560 ram up to 128 MB.

I have 2 Infineon HYB25L512160AC-7.5 memory module.

What is my job? Only change the old 2 chips to the 2 new, (without any other hardware modification) and then OS patch?

Anyone have here a WORKING N560 with 128 MB RAM?
Without the OS patch works the PDA, but see only 64 MB?

Thanks for the Answers!

There is someone by the username of Delta 77 on Newplow's guestbook with some posting of what i believe is a modified 038 with 128MB Ram support. Those already with a the hardware modifications might want to give it a try and let us know how it goes.

A question on the side, any one know of anywhere in London, UK that could do the 128MB ram upgrade?

well I can't read Russian either, but that's why there is a drop down list to use google translator on Newplow's page. For some strange reason i couldn't copy the links on the Guest Book page without the google translate pre-fix to here.

btw, it says "Guest Book" in English on the front page of Newplow's site (http://newplow.euro.ru/)

oof... that really makes me wonder whether such an upgrade is worth it. Although I really want this upgrade to happen on my device as well.... but...

Say the market value is at 200 Euros, but from a previous post the upgrade cost is 119 Euros.... that's 60% of the cost of the device!

I really hope the cost of upgrade can go down to more reasonable levels.

Since there isn't an PDA on the market, which offers better specifiacations than the N560, the upgrade is of course worth it's money.

Or can you tell me an PDA, which has VGA, GPS and at least 128MB ROM?

Strictly PDA, there's no other. But PDA phones... well one example is the HTC Touch Diamond... but my eyes are on the HTC Touch HD. But I'll still be keeping my N560 for casual web browsing and a portable network media player around the house.

If only the upgrade cost is less... like 60 Euros. I feel quite disgusted saying this, but otherwise the money may be better spent towards the next VGA+, GPS, 128+MB RAM pda phone.

Oh i just realise no one answered your question.

This xda-dev page (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294165&page=23) has everything you need to know. But long story short... go to newplow's (new) site (http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Ffsc.newplowe.com%2F&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=ru&tl=en). I would recommend the WM 6.0 (038) version. You'll need to do hex-editing (as i recall), to make newplow's english version work on your GER WM5. Good luck.

UPDATE: oh it seems newplow made an easier tool to change WM5 language versions to work with his WM6 roms. Go to "My Soft" and you'll see what to do

So, what I should do is simply connect the pda, using the software changing the hex part to make corrispondence to english, then upgrading rom?
That's all?
I'm just curious, I don't want to brick a new pda... ;)

If i would like to change my wm5 rom to italian, can someone tell me how to do or link me a sort of guide or site where to understand something?

thanx :)

P.S. why we should need to upgrade to 128mb ram, is obligatory or I can just update a "normal" 64mb model?
P.P.S. Why the newplow is better in 6.0 and he's continuing updating this rom otherwise 6.1 that is newer?

Thanks you

I knowe about the HTC Touch Diamond, but the tiny display was another knockout criteria for me because of using the pda extensively as a navigation system (which was the reason for upgrading the RAM).

But to be honest I didn't come acrosse the THC Touch HD, which seems to have it all. Very interesting indeed! When will it be released and what will it cost?

Because I red about the discussion on how to change the language of an ROM:
Can anybody tell me how to upload an ROM version whith an changed language? Everytime I try that (having used newplows tool), the N560 tells me, that the new ROM differs in language and can therefore not be installed....

@bITTRICH:
Yes, I got my pda back yesterday. It took about two weeks from the day I sent the pda in until I got it back in my hands. A reason for the long time ist the fact, that they only tell you the price and their account details after they have finished upgrading the ram. Because of this they have to wait 3-4 days until they receive the transfered money before they send the pda.

The also install a working WM6.0 ROM, but I do not know which one.

I had no chance to test the pda with a long distance navigation, but what I can tell you is thet I have about 115MB of free RAM.

If anyone knows how to install a ROM with a language different from the one, which is currently installed, I would be very greatful for any help!

I tried with iGO8 900km (Simulation). It's perfect. There isn't MEMORY OUT Message :)

And a question: have sombody tried from newplow-site the ROM backup software? Can i install from image-file the original ROM?

Chrys

I have tried it. It works. If you take the backup before you install WM6 or WM6.1 then you can go back with the backup.

Newplow made the ROM backup after I have gone to WM6.0, so the backup was pointless. However, a friend has lent me his N560 with WM5 and I now have a way back. But I have got rid of it because I am happy with WM6.0 (but not WM6.1 which has serious bugs).

The PDA has a Problem with e-mails. The Sync. is O.K. with Outlook 2003 (on the Laptop_XP) but after open on pda aren't the Messages readable. I see just the adresses and the subject. I know that was a Problem with 64MB FW-versions in past. Do anybody know what the solution is?
Could i read the messages with a different software?

Cannot speak for 128Mb version but Newplow's 64Mb WM6.0 release 038 email works, but the WM6.1 version does NOT i.e you cannot open, read or create emails. See message 193 on Newplow's Guestbook. If the code for WM6.0 64Mb has simply been copied across to the 128Mb version, then I am surprised the email has the symptoms of the WM6.1 ROM. Newplow has been giving hints that he has solved the WM6.1 email problem... but it's not there yet. I keep looking! But the 128Mb is something else? Why not leave a message for Newplow asking about the problem on his Guestbook? Actually, I have just realised that you got the new version from the supplier who did your 128Mb upgrade, so why not ask them?

It may be your English, but I do not understand your reply. The smiley face might mean you have solved your problem, yes?

I've installed the ROM from Service: SRS. I can read the outlook e-mails with this ROM-Version. I will try again the Delta77 ROM.

I know what the problem is: i did install a language-software: Language Extender (LEng) /for Hungarian Language/. Ver: 10274.
The Options: "Disable Interface Translation" and "Disable LEng" don't help, the e-mails in Outlook are unreadable.
After uninstall is O.K.

This is ROM-independing.

You seem pleased to move to 6.1, but there are a couple of serious "bugs" which Newplow knows about and seems reluctant to get rid of.... one is that in the Messaging program no emails can be read or created (ugh).

Yes, but there is a update (hotfix) from Microsoft to solve this problem.

P.S.
He should give us a new update of ROM before New Year :)
BTW: Maybe he will also wait for Windows Mobile 7.0 :)

end 2009 or Q1 2010,

You have got right - I was thinking about IE 6 Mobile - it should be given on beginning of New Year.
Sorry for mistake - I was thinking about 2 things in the same time :|

If you would do some reading you'd know you don't use Mobilemanager nor AS to Flash a new firmware!

Yes, there is some kind of an ActiveSync hack for Windows Vista.

Newplow directs his users to follow the instructions on THIS (http://www.modaco.com/content/windows-mobile-news/252977/ruu-on-vista-it-can-be-done-the-ultimate-guide/) page (don't worry, though it is meant for HTC devices, it is compatible with LOOX N560).

I don't have Windows Vista, but users reports it works well.

I have the pocket LOOX n560 with 64MB RAM.
I have istalled the newplowe 6.5 Classic.
