You need Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 installed on your computer.

to solve your "generic rndis" problem:

START > SETTINGS > CONNECTIONS > USB to PC -- tick on ENABLE ADVANCED NETWORK FUNCTIONALITY

and its done ;)

...really? what does that do? force the phone to use a different driver?
