ROM Upgrades do not take effect

I have an i-mate k-Jam running Windows Mobile 5
I have tried a number of ROMS to upgrade to WM6/6.1
The upgrade appears to be successful and the inital screen suggest the upgrade has worked but the setup screens are still WM5 and after setup the device is still running WM 5.
As an example using the XM6r5Lite ROM shows a XDA 6 screen after hard boot but is still running WM5

I read the guide before attempting a ROM upgrade.
Its a G3 device that is unlocked.
None of the trouble shooting points in the guide seem to relate to the problem of the upgrade appearing successful but the device remaining as WM5rather than WM6.
Have I missed something

How did you check that the phone is CID unlocked? You realize there's a difference between SIM and CID unlocking

I am assuming it is CID unlocked as it was purchased SIM free directly rather than from a carrier

Get WST and read the CID block to be sure if it's indeed as what's happening to it looks like CID blocked situation.

I was getting the same problem with a G4 XDA Mini S

i tried hardspl, softspl and then in the end i flashed it using the CID locked guide. I managed to get TNT WM 6.1 on it, but it wont work properly, the GSM info on bootup screen now doesnt show half the time when i boot the phone up, i have reflashed the original O2 rom and it seems to be working, although it wont connect to my wireless. Gonna have another play with it and see what i can find out, will update this thread if i find anything.

I am experiencing a similar problem. I have successfully downgraded the phone to the button rom, but every time I attempt to either flash a new rom or simply upgrade the ipl/spl, only the spl changes (ipl always remains at 1.01) and the new rom never takes.

Have you tried latest WST v4.2.2?
I added the possibility to CID unlock even if IPL/SPL values differ. Another member reported a success story with WST and a case like yours.

That message is clearly a sign of locked CID.

Have you tried to unlock CID anyway?

I have gone through the unlock stage is the Wiki instructions, then installed the T-Mobile WM5 ROM followed by the XM6r5Lite (WM6 not 6.1) ROM.
This time the device has taken the upgrade and initially appears to be working.

Sorry to ask again but have you CID unlocked with latest 4.2.2 WST? I added a new feature that has helped another member with locked SPL. And what bootloader values you have exactly?

Yes, I downloaded the latest WST (4.2.2) and even though it reported CID and SIM already unlocked, I went ahead and re-unlocked both with no errors being displayed and successful restarts after each. Currently, my boot screen shows this...

ipl 1.01
spl 1.01
gsm 1.12.10.0
os 1.5.4.2

Unfortunately, when I attempt to load any other rom, the wizard gets hosed...and yes, that is a perfectly acceptable technical term in this case.

However, when I run the mtty MFC applicaton (r2sd all), it fails every time stating the device is actually NOT unlocked (which is why I'm not able to flash any other roms).

So, knowing that NONE of the CID unlocker programs (that I've found throughout the forums and the ftp) are working on my wizard, what can I do? Are there other CID unlocking programs that could actually "force" the unlock to actually work?

I know it might sound annoying,just give another try with lokiwiz02b tool and SIM/CID unlock the phone again and try a different RomUpdateUtility to flash the rom,replace the Ruu in the Rom with other Ruu_Noid and try.

Unfortunately, I've already tried every single unlocker, RUU, and ROM I could get my hands on...always the same result. Just can't flash anything past button.

Somehow, I'm thinking that the IPL portion of the phone got hosed...just don't know how or why.

Have you tried to go from Button ROM to 2.17 WWE? or to 1.06 WWE? You know that the problem might have come from jumping from 1.xx to 3.xx without stopping at 2.xx...

The last thing i can think of is to flash Button again, use WST to write custom CID but using all 8 "11111111" to see if it fixes and do it several times.

I'll look for the 1.06 and the 2.17, but had already tried button, then the 2.25 t-mobile wwe. I'll also try manually writing the CID out with WST.

try using these roms to upgrade with stmasi they are all good and woork fine, never had a g3 that i couldnt unlock with them, it includes the wizard love rom, o2 xda mini -s official rom and lokiwiz (all versions)

Nope...none of them work. Just don't understand why either. I've never encountered a problem like this in the past. No matter what I try, the ONLY rom that will work on my wizard any more is the button rom.

Very strange.

Guess I just have to resign myself to this old rom and be thankful the phone even works any more.

i want to revet back to 2.16.9.101 so that i can install orginal imate rom (K-JAM_WWE_216901_2169101_020710_ship). where i can find the nk.nbf file in remove hardspl thread which contain file which have ipl/spl 2.16.9.101. from where can i find that file?

Second, there's no such thing as IPL/SPL 2.16.9.101. Closest might be 2.17.0001 or 2.16.0001 dunno which is inlcuded in K-JAM_WWE_216901_2169101_020710_ship
Third, you must make your own search for links either in the forum or in the WWW. Asking to be spoon fed isn't well accepted here (as you can see by my answer :p)
