Hi martin.
<off topic>
To have danish xt9 I've been using the "scandinavian-xt9.cab" from modaco, but it contains the "old" version. I like the version where it writes "sudgest word".
Is it possible to take the danish xt9 files from the official htc rom, or do I need the emulator copy, to extract files?

Aaarg, I'll put two links then since my server was unreachable for a lot of people too.
And yes you can extract xt9 from a danish rom. In fact you will find the danish drivers in one of my languages pack for my wm 6.0 rom : http://ostiedbrosse.free.fr/Xda-Dev/languages_packs/
hansjuhvos : configuring native windows mobile VoIP is really not easy, there are some guide around on the net.

Dr Gonzo,
Great work....
I have just one issue:
I cannot get any of the Exchange 2007 Security Policies to apply to the device correctly.
For example if i say do not alow Wifi or Bluetooth, i can still switch on wifi and bluetooth.
If i say the device lock must kick in after 15 mins i can choose upto 24 hours on the device.
Any Idea why?

Hey, i just saw a strange thing!
If i get a missed call alert and i leave it unchecked, and then i reboot the device, then the missed call alert disappears!
It is happening with anyone of you?
Also, the new message notification, if left unchecked, remains after reboot, which is normal.
So why is the missed call alert disappearing after reboot?

sorry I really don't know for the exchange 2007 problem, I never used it so I don't even know how it works:(
This is the Exchange 2007 Security policies that can be pushed down from the server to secure the device and push restrictions on it.
The fact that the external Card encryption does not work leads me to believe that this is all tied in some way.
Intresting though that som of the security policies are applied while the bulk are ignored.
If you wish to do any testing do let me know as i can provide accounts on my exchange server for testing.

I have a question regarding the VoIp part. You say it's already installed, and I can see the "Internet Call" section in the settings but there is no way to put my SIP provider/login/pass. Where should I look?

I've found a problem with bluetooth. I'm unable to receive files from other phones (nokia, htc, toshiba and motorola are the ones i've tried) or even my PCs.
Is it me or this is a bug of the firmware/bluetooth stack? Can anyone reproduce it?

Well well. Nice one indeed. But i have to ask something:
- could it be that the font-type of the clock changed? i would like to have the old one (wm6.1a) back :D how can i do that?
As the others i would like to appreciate your work!! nicely done. I wish you a nice retirement, but i still hope you'll stay at the board, because your knowledge is needed otherwise!

Hi, I always loved your roms but this have given me some problems, first is extremely slow, i wonder a reflash will help. When i said slow i mean something like turn on 10 apps at once and running office mobile. Unlocking the device is already a pain.
2.The fonts seems quite odd, its big.
3. just asking, can i decrease the delay of showing the time when i press on any button?

Really praiseworthy. Dr Gonzo this is unbelievable. But the problem is I just flashed your 1.0b a day ago. Flashing again is reinstalling all softwares. Anyway, this is nothing to discourage you. We are ready to reinstall again and again.
By the way, to all VOX freaks - Is there a way to take backup of entire phone and card so that everything can be reinstalled by one click. I use Sprite backup that came bundled with my phone.

I have no problems at all with wifi and I am also using the new rom from dr Gonzo. Maybe you have the box ticked under wlan settings / Powermode /auto turn off wlan ? There is also a setting under wlansettings and you select Wi-FI you will see Menu on the bottom right. There you have option 4 advanced, if you select that , there is an option : Turn-off wifi if not connected in:

I try many ROMs(official,Dr 1.0,1.0a,1.0b and 1.1) but still has a problems.Sometimes Vox can't auto turn off screen.I must go to Power setting to chage display time out from 30s to 1min > backlight time out.But after,it turn back 30s and screen always on and display time out still 30s.
Can we solve it?
emms007
12th April 2008, 01:09 PM
Phantranphuc here is a solution that worked for me :
for the display problem with tcpmp (or many other applications),
create a new string value called Display at
HKCU/CONTROL PANEL/POWER/
and set the value to whatever you want.
if it is 30 then screen will turn off in 30 secs.
I hope this helps :)

I flashed this ROM yesterday and I am experiencing following problems:
- The ROM is a lot slower, at least in sliding panel homescreen (compared to some of the first versions of WM6.1 I was using before)
- I am experiencing some problems with Wifi - the first time I enabled it, the Wifi section dissapeared from the comm manager after a while and then suddenly reappeared after 10 minutes or so. Moreover, I can't get into comm manager using the link from sliding panel homescreen (I think it worked only after the first boot)
- For some reason, my Vox is running very hot with this ROM (Tornado Power Control isn't used, the CPU frequency is left at 180Mhz)
- It takes very long to completely turn off the phone (It stays on with blank screen for 30 seconds or so)..
Anyone experiencing such problems?
Thanks for the ROMs anyway, Gonzo, keep up the good work!

First of all, do I have to know anything about programing to cook a ROM? (I mean - delete some stuff from the one posted by Dr. Gonzo)
Because I don't want to bug you about throwing out all that stuff i don't use.
Next thing - will it make WM 6.1 a bit faster or stable - if so, WM 6.1 "lite" would be a great idea (i have seen some "lite" ROMs on TyTN II board).
And the last one - is it possible to make all the erased stuff available in *.cab files?
As for me, i don't use all the stuff you mentioned (Opera, CorePlayer, Palringo are just better!) :)... And about IE - i heard a rumour that Win98 SE without the IE (and other MS progs) was the most stable of all the MS windows ever made... aso that idea sounds interesting, even just for a test :)

I had installed ROM 1.0b falwlessly.
This time everything is going OK upto USPL116(batch file). There after while flashing ROM the bootloader screen appears and these things happen after multiple tryout.
On two occassions only the ROM update % completion screen showed upto 3% and forced exit saying image file is corrupt.
2)) On other occassions the bootloader screen is loaded and then the loader says unable to connect ( Connection error 260) and forces exit. I have tried a number of times and checked my USB connection.
My question is if there is connection error the how bootloader screen is loaded.
I have also tried stopping my antivirus and all other running softwares but no result. I run XP.

Well, in my opinion in WM 6.1 lite there should be no:
- MS Office *
- Media Player
- Windows Live
- Games
- Windows Live Messanger
- Windows Media Player
- I think we should try to kick out IE. Just for a beta release or smth... who knows, maybe it's a good idea? The only thing which used IE on my Vox was the "getting started" panel (which can be erased as well)
- Audio Manager (why not?)
- Adobe Reader *
* - it would be great to have them in .cab, just in case...
And about Dr. Gonzo apps - dunno, i use RegEdit, Up/Down arrows for wifi/bluetooth, RSSHub
I think it should be "green" by default (current one is red ;/). And I would also like to get rid of Ringtone and Background from "Setting" panel.
(HKLM->Software->Microsoft->Chome->Settings ; values -> pages)
And a smaller font of course.

Thanks a lot Dr Gonzo for this release.
I am facing a bug that I had with the original rom + the cab file to enable native VoIP.
I flashed my vox on thursday and everything was OK but today, I've tried to make a call from my vox but the green button and the red button didn't work... So I've tried to call from my office to my vox and the vox didn't ring but I heard the tone with my office's phone
Is anybody facing the same anoying problem ?

Hi all i want restore the original theme of ROM v1.0b , were can i found the original.cab green theme?
There is no CAB. Though, I've made a nice little ZIP for you, containing all the files you need (the images are from Gonzo).
I've created two folders, one with the XML Files which should be placed in \Application Data\Home and one with the images, that should be in \Windows.

if i flash my phone with wm 6.1, can i flash it back to a cooked rom with wm 6.0 ??

I've just registered to say how great this rom is!
After I bought my S710 last August I felt a bit disappointed. I previously owned a Symbian S60 phone and used it for many tasks, playing mp3, radio, navigation, etc, but with the S710 I found myself using it exclusively as a phone, mainly because of its general slowness.
But I have to say the WM6.1 upgrade gave it new life and I'm finally enjoying using it! The "sliding panel" home screen is great, as well as the other small improvements and overall snappier feeling. I'd never get back to the stock WM6!
THANKS DR. MARTIN GONZO!!!!!

You can flash back to any WM6 ROM from WM6.1 but the SPL will be the newer one that you flashed to prior to Flashing the ROM.

Once you have Flashed te SPL of your phone you will be able to flash your ROM wit an official HTC WM6 ROM, Dr. martin Gonzo's New Guava WM6 ROM, Dr. Martin Gonzo's WM6.1 v1.0b ROM, his New WM6.1 v1.1 ROM, or even one of the reconstructed Orange SPV E650 ROM's that are on here.
The SPL is seperate from the cooked ROM. You have to flash your SPL with the one that is available at the top of this Forum or the one that is provided in the rar archive that you downloaded the WM6 ROM from Dr. G or one of his WM6.1 ROM's. The SPL ROM is a seperate ROM that has nothing to do with the OS ROM.
If you followed the Readme and perminently Flashed the SPL you don't need to do it again, but if you only did it tempereroly to flash the WM6.1 ROM then you will have to flashe the SPL again to re-flash.
Hope this helps.

now my phone is CID unlock and sim unlock.
so i don't worry to be able to flash it, i know it's ok .
i just want to know if i flash with the last Martin Gonzo's WM6.1 ROM for example, does it change my SPL ?
And am i able to re flash to Dr. martin Gonzo's New Guava WM6 ROM after, for example ?
can i play with different cooked ROM even if it's wm6.1, wm6, or other.?

Aslong as you have permenently flashed the SPL then you are free to change from Dr. Martin Gonzo's WM6.1 v1.1 to his WM6.1 v1.0b to his WM6 New Guava v1.0 or even anyother cooked ROM that you find. U will even be able to flash the Re-constructed Orange WM6 ROM if you want.

Hello folks,
thanks for the great rom, works like a charm :) except for one very annoying problem.
I think it is a settings, but I can't seem to find it.
I set up my activesync to download my emails from an exchange server, when they arrive (push mail).
I also configured a wifi profile, for my connection at home.
in wm6 this worked flawlessly, but in 6.1 I have a strange problem.
I noticed the battery was almost completely drained, after a few hours, which was strange, so I started looking what happened.
it seemed that the phone automatically switched the wlan connection on, to check for new mails.
on wm6 this never occured, but it occurs continuously on 6.1.
this drains the battery like mad, and is quite annoying because I can't seem to figure out how to disable this.
has anyone experienced the same problem, and maybe a solution?
the problem is caused by activesync I think, because that's always started when I notice the wlan connection has been enabled.
thanks in advance,
v3n0m

you have to use USPL to allow flashing ROM's not made by HTC.
the CID unlock was to unlock it from the network operator I believe. (I never buy the phone from the service provider, so always network unlocked)

Why would you want that?
Because my girlfriend doesnt want an orange and black theme on her phone, and I'd rather just give her a phone wtih default windows interface images, so in case when I am modifying some of the images and I miss some, it's just the default windows images, not custom.

A question to everyone who's been using this rom for while now: How do you like it in daily use? Calling/texting/browsing the web/..., stuff like that. Do you think it's stable? That's the most important thing for me to know before I start flashing.
Another question regarding the flashing: I did a lot of reading and I found out that I have to do the following in the order mentioned:
- sim and/or cid unlock
- spl flash
- (whatever) rom flash
Mine is the HTC S710/Vox version, so no need to simunlock. But how do I check if it's cidlocked? Thanks so much!!

Somebody please reply to my problems. I had earlier reported but no reply recd.
I flashed ver 1.0b smoothly. But now when I wish to upgrade to ver 1.1, the following problems are shown.
(1) After completion of 3% the flashing stops with the comment "Corrupt ROM".
(2) On some other occassions the flashing gets stuck up at bootloader screen and ultimately exits with comment "Connection error no. 260. - Please check your USB cable connection". In fact the USB connection is not showing any problem upto loading of bootloader screen.
So please somebody help me to come out of this situation.

ive got htc s710 vox. ive been using all dr gonzos 6.1 roms and i can honestly say i dont experience any problems with rom as it is. only apps like smart toolkit makes it freeze sometimes. and when u overclock it to faster speeds 240mhz and above it gets unstable sometimes. so yes this rom is alot better than the factory rom and u will be happy with it. to flash is easiest thing ever! dont worry about it. even if ur phone is unlocked already it wont make a difference if u just go thru all 3 steps. and make sure u have a active sync connection before u start!
gonzo included a step by step readme in the .rar so worry not!

To everyone having the "corrupted rom" problem : make sure you read the instruction provided within the rom package.
This error actually occurs when the flashing software notice that your rom is not an official htv one. You need to do the SPL unlock procedure using the tools provided in the subdirectory of the rom package.
The unlock procedure is actually a first, light, flashing of the phone. If you have not been through this step, no way it's gonna work.

Good to hear, thnx! Sorry for not reading carefully...<:) I also just read the startpost of the uspl thread agian...it's all there:
"The USPL does *not* permanently CID unlock your phone, like the CID unlocker from imei-check or so.
After you flashed a ROM your phone is again CID locked. Each time you wonna flash a ROM with a different model and/or vendor ID (different from your phone) or a cooked ROM, you must run the USPL again and then flash the ROM."

"Now we will be able to FLASH the USPL, that means it will be permanently in the phone so you should never have problems flashing unofficial roms and it's an added protection in case something goes wrong, your device will be easier to recover. To flash it run VOX_USPL\VOX_USPL\ROMUpdateUtility.exe and follow instructions. The flash procedure will be very quick and your phone will reboot.
/!\ : The USPL is no longer here if you flash an official htc rom. It will be replaced and you will need to do this procedure again to be able to flash unofficial roms."

Hi!
I cant seem to get bluetooth and Wi-Fi connected at the same time.
What I'm trying to do is stream the audio from my Vox thru' my desktop PC's speakers over bluetooth and at the same time connect to the notebook thru' Wi-Fi. But as soon as i get connected to the Wi-Fi on notebook, the bluetooth connection with the PC gets disconnected. Same thing happens if i try to connect to Active Sync via bluetooth on one of my systems and Wi-Fi on the other simultaneously.
Could anyone please verify if they can connect BT and Wi-Fi at the same time?
Also, is there a way to make Wi-Fi stick to the previous state on reboot, like if it was ON before reboot, if should remain ON on device reboot/power ON.
This happened previously on HTC ROM but now it gets OFF when device turns off.
Any help appreciated.

Hi. Just here to ask some dumb questions. First time I have ever flashed a new rom on a phone.
When I flash the new rom on my phone does that mean all data on it will be erased?
Should i leave my sim card in during the process?
I bought my phone unlocked, but does it hurt in anyway to do all three steps listed?
Is wm6.1 any improvement speed wise on the vox. I overclock mine to 252 usually, but I have read here that overclocking wm6.1 at and above 240mhz makes it unstable. So..is 6.1 a little more responsive on the vox? (therefor I don't have to overclock as much)
Finally, for the smartphone version of wm6.1 does Internet explorer have full page viewing like opera mobile? (You know...the web page on your phone looks similar if not exactly as it would on your desktop)
Thanks in advanced for any help guys. Later

It's not possible to connect to a computer with Bluetooth and wifi at the same time as there would be no point in connecting with 2 separate networking systems. The best way to do what you want is to buy the HTC sterio Bluetooth Headset and connect that to your laptop and pair it with your phone.

Newbie here almost ready to upgrade to the 6.1 -- just a couple of questions:
- I have only had the Vox for a couple of weeks and have been very pleased and impressed with the stability and battery life. I've seen a couple of posts about reduced battery life, is that overstated or can I expect a significant difference?
- I am pretty sure I've seen several posts that answer this but I just want to be sure -- Can I revert to the HTC official ROM and is there any difficulty in doing so?
Thanks in advance.

1) Battery life will be the same. I think a few people who claim that the battery drain over night is that they didn't fix the problem with backlight that hapends with all HTC roms.
2) Yes you can and if you have HTC s710 ( I mean, no orange Vodafone V7505 / SFR S710 / Orange SPV E650 / Swisscom XPA v1415...) all you have to do is to pres NEXT, NEXT, NEXT...

That is not quite correct.. If you flash the USPL and then flash a rom like dr. gonzos then yes, you do not need to flash the USPL again if you want another rom. But if you flash USPL and then a shipped rom, the USPL is gone because of the SPL that is shipped with those roms overwrites the USPL ..

All your settings will stay. I did it this week, and all my settings were still there !

Hi Gonzo:
Great job! Thanks.
Just one question: Can we actually see flash web pages? I did a little test and couldn´t.
Also at m.youtube.com.
Cheers

Great work, only found a couple of problems, that may make me revert to 6.0
1. Could not connect to works wifi which normally uses a security certificate.
2. Has stopped syncing album art from media player.
Anyone else found this?
Cheers again

Is there a way to install WM6.1 in its original state, just like MS released?

yeah but not yet. :D
we'll have to wait for HTC to release a WM6.1 ROM for Vox.

I've flashed each version you have posted. I also installed SmartToolKit each time. Some problems I've seen.
. ver 1.1 is slower than the 1.0b or 1.0a; ver 1.1 is not as snappy
. ver 1.1 hangs sometimes with SmartToolKit loaded.
. ver 1.1 does not always allow opening the calendar and viewing; future/past appointments using the center control left/right buttons on the VOX; (it just hangs) requiring removal of the battery to allow power on.
. ver 1.1 will hang sometimes when scrolling to view appointments (see above); battery removal required in order to restart
. ver 1.1 will will hang when over clocked to 228 using Tornado Power Control; did not happen on previous versions; requires battery removal to restart.
Thanks

I have not tried the 6.1 ROM yet but I do know that smarttoolkit causes many of those problems.
why does you uninstall smarttoolkit and try. Maybe that'll help.

I'm using it since day 1 and not one problem so far. No hungs, no freezes and no slowdowns. And the speed is totally comparable to 1.0. I'm sticking with it.

I did try removing SToolkit and version 1.1 is still slower and still hangs, but only when running at the faster 228 mhz speed. I just tried changing the speed back to the next slowest, 204, and all seems to be running fine, and is much snappier. I guess the VOX just can't run in fastest mode with the latest Microsoft 6.1 code. The non-MS 6.1 code version created by Gonzo did run at 228 just fine with SToolkit loaded.

thats peculiar!
Vox runs best at 228 MHz as I have observed.
above that the display shows horizontal moving lines(look carefully and close). But then I dont know anything about the 6.1 ROM. I am on New Guava 6.0.

It really depends on your CPU, some manage even 250 and above without lines or slowdown and some don't even manage 228!

Well, I stand corrected. I reloaded everything, including SToolKit, and set speed to 228; all works fine now. I did change one setting in SToolKit...WaitOnWindowsStartUp...from 0 to 5, now all seems to be working fine and is snappy; SToolKit even restarts after reboot; didn't before setting to 5. Thanks for the feedback.

How can it vary among different Vox users? I think everyone has the same CPU and hardware inside :)

I am very sure HTC will come out with a WM6.1 ROM for the VOX. They are just a tad slow in this area. They released the 1.34 ROM (WM6.0) when we were already talking about 6.1 on the Moto Q.

I've flashed the latest ROM which says VOIP is available, however when I load the HOME screen that shows the Internet Calling block, it indicates "service is blocked". Is there another setting I'm missing somewhere? I'm an AT&T customer in the U.S.

guys - regarding battery life I have a few comments. From my side it seems like ROM 1.1 has som strange bug inside. Now - currently I have removed my VOX from AC. I can see - on the main screen - battery is fully loaded. But in the settings screen - power management - I can see only 50% load!!! How is this possible?? I have an experience with previous version on this ROM - 1.0b. With that rom I was able to use my VOX for more than 2 days (approximately 2,5 days).
Please tell me what went wrong.... Is there any known bug in this latest rom?

Great rom, works great speed also seems better.
Anybody know how to change the start menu to list view, as the old reghack, seems to only work temporarily in WM6.1 before its reverted to a grid view through some other property.

I've been using the ROM, all versions, for some time now and never have had the battery indicator issue you state. I always look for other programs I'm running when these kinds of problems show up. Removing them usually clears up the issue.

Hi there,
many thanks to this great work - rom is perfect for me (ok, german language would be nice - but not neccessary)...
one question: how can I get phonealarm to work with the new slidingpanel? I can integrate the plugin (looks really nice) - but I'm not able to "scroll up to it" - only the system-plugin is scrolled through endlessly...
btw: battery life is good, system and hs show the same level for me

I’ve been using this ROM for three days now. Nothing but problems. So I’m going back to 1.0b. Smart Toolkit RC8 keeps hanging. When I use Messenger and play a song using Mediaplayer the system freezes. My HTC Guava screen layout gets $#$@(*. If I listen to music and switch between Live or anything else the phone hangs. Very annoying. Mostly the buttons just don’t work anymore. Except from the speed increase this ROM sucks for me. Ah well, I gave it a try. Thanks anyway, but I’ll stick with the previous one. Just tought of posting it here to help others (who also have problems with this ROM) decide what to do. Although I doubt there are a lot out there judging by all the positive posts here. Hmm, come to think of it. I’ll try it another day or so without SmartToolkit…
My list of installed cabs:
- TCPMP 7.2 + packs
- Gregory HTCHome
- Smartmonitor
- Dutch
- Pocketnester
- Google Maps
- SRS WOW
- HTC Streaming Media
- Smart Toolkit RC8

yes I tried that - no success. I have decided to turn back to 1.0b version. In there everything works perfect. Now I am setting up my device. I will follow this forum and maybe someone will have the same problem. Until it will be solved (or clear where the problem is) I will use previous version.

I have a strange problem (tried searching through the thread, couldn't find anything) when typing an SMS...
If I start to type an SMS, then leave it until the screen starts to dim, then start typing again, the text that was already there is gone. The only way to continue typing in the sms is to close the view and open again.
Anyone else experiencing this?

I'll share some words after using this version for 10 days.
This is (probably) the best ROM for VOX. There is only one thing I noticed which sucks: The sound is so low! Through speaker or earphone. My phone can't do it's primary duty: make phone calls.
That is why I decided to go back to official HTC Vox ROM. I am disapointed.

I've been playing with it a lot, no hangs so far. So no more Smart Toolkit for me. BTW, nog problems here with sound. If I set everything to loud, my eardrums will surely get damaged.

Hi,
I don't know if this question came by before, but I'll ask it anyway. Does anyone else have the problem that choosing between IMAP en POP is disabled when you are creating a new e-mail account? Anything other than that, this Windows Mobile 6.1 v1.1 is great.

I found out what the problem was. I tried to use IMAP with my Gmail (which worked on the orginal WM6) but this WM6.1 takes "standard settings" for gmail accounts. So when you create a new e-mail account and it asks for your e-mail address I just typed john@doe.com and it didnt see of course I set the rest as gmail. It all worked now.
