That's IR, right? Not the system's bluetooth?

PS3 uses propriatary bluetooth, no iR. So the only option right now is to buy the PS3 remote, unless someone can open the sony propriatary bluetooth.

PS has no iR, all works based on bluetooth, hence the question :)

Using a pocket pc as a bluray remote for PS3 over bluetooth would indeed be awesome.

Any luck on this? There's gotta be a way to get them to sync up some how and allow control options.

This really will be useful, I mean how many people can controll their PS3 with their cellphones =] ?
I dont know much of how to make such an app but id gladly contribute with graphics and/or testing if someone has a way to do this.

I really don't think this would be possible or there would be bluetooth drivers for getting the SIXAXIS controller to work on the PC... there are drivers but you have to plug it in with the USB cable so obviously no one has found a way to dig into the bluetooth stack on the ps3.
EDIT: I'm sure it's "possible" but improbable based on my above statement ;)

that's a keyboard right? that brings up an interesting concept! Just have the ppc bind to ps3 as a keyboard and make a little touch app that passes keystrokes?
I think the whole challenge here is to get the bluetooth on the ppc to accept connections as peripheral device services.

Another vote for awesome. I have a Logitech BT keyboard that I use on the PS3 and PC. The keyboard has full control over the PS3 including movie playback.

I know you can connect your bluetooth headset to the PS3... Should be able to use on chat with friends but I've never tried.... Sony also released a headset for online games that can connect to mobiles so I wonder if anyone has tried connecting their sony remote to pc, would probably need drivers though to use properly if at all...

If you look at their website, it looks like that needs custom hardware that connects to your AV equipment. It doesn't really explain how it controls it.

It's possible and has been done. The SIXAXIS has been in use for a while now. You can even have the rumble/vibrate function (dualshock controllers) work on a PC recently.

Someone please come out with an app for ppcs!! Blackberries are about to have this product already.

Maybe the correct program could be created to make the phone show as a bluetooth peripheral (keyboard/touchpad) because these things can be connected to the PS3.
I'm extremely surprised the Sony Ericsson Xperia I have doesn't have anything like this, it would be brilliant to use as a Bluetooth keyboard for my PS3 and the optical as a touchpad with PS3 specific keys on the screen.

Exactly. I've got the HD, and I always carry that baby around with me. So if someone would be able to port the bluetooth commands to an app it would be awesome!

i am definitely interested in this if anybody has an idea on how to approach this! would be great for watching movies and using your touch as the remote to control the ps3! you could definitely make some people say "wow! i am impressed!"

LOL apparently great minds think alike I've had this thought for a few weeks ago. I happen to own/run a development shop. I'm going to have one of the uber nerds look into this for me. (more of a present for my wife, she hates the controller remotes).
I'll report back to this thread if I make any headway!
With the availability of this concept on Blackberry and iPhone now :( can't imagine its too hard to convert to WM6.1.
Wish me luck
Cheers,
OK Quick Update: apparently the people who are making the app for the iPhone and Blackberry are looking into this for WM and possibly releasing something later this year looked for it on another WM forum. dont hold your breath tho! ;)

Is there anyway to 'intercept' bluetooth commands? The biggest issue would be getting the PS3 to recognize the phone as a compatible BT device.

Im not exactly sure as the exact way it happens, but i ran across this today, which makes me think it is possible to do it.

Ok http://store.wmpoweruser.com/product.asp?id=26097&n=MobileRemote just released 1.1 with which you can connect to the PS3 and use your phone as a Keyboard, mouse and sum other things that i havent figured out yet.

I've just installed this in demo mode and can confirm...
OMFG, IT *DOES* WORK!!!
I'll be trying it out but I have the feeling that I'll be spending the $8.99 for it. It's just so useful.
Now the only thing is to work out which function is the PS button. I've emailled them with the question, so let's see if they get back to me. :D

Just used it on my HD and worked perfectly. The only complaint i have with it actually controlling the PS3 with the accelerometer itself which i found a pain, the HD flung out of my hand trying to do triple fast forward.
But then again, this is a beautiful start.

but my device was not happy

My one didn't work unless i ticked "Legacy" on the program, try that.
-PiLoT-
17th March 2009, 01:58 PM
i did that but when the devices pair my HD took ages on the wait icon before it finished the ps3 had already finished
Psygnosis84
17th March 2009, 02:31 PM
you mean after you enter the keycode, it just goes into the rainbow circle thing?
Yeh just go back to the main menu and enter the program and it should be paired, worked for me.
-PiLoT-
17th March 2009, 02:56 PM
yeah the wait cursor was there for like 5 mins the playstation reckoned it was paired but the remote didnt do anything
Psygnosis84
17th March 2009, 11:06 PM
See my one done the exact same thing. The PS3 found my phone so i paired it up, then a keycode came on screen which i had to type into the phone, which i did and then the cursor when spinning and spinning and didn't stop.
So i thought i would just go to the Home page and re-enter the program since it was still open. When i re-entered the program, it was with a new screen which i had to confirm. Which i did and i was able to use it.
However i couldn't choose a name for the pair so i just have a blank, and even changing it via the Bluetooth profiles screwed the whole thing up.
For me it worked that way, to be honest it is a very fidgety program.
The program is weird in some parts IMO, i can't use the actual music controller to control the PS3, hell i can't even control the music with it. I can only control anything via the mouse pad or the accelerometer which is a bummer. Anyone get to work the PS3 with the music controller on the far left?
GiZZy
18th March 2009, 08:02 PM
I cant use the music controls either, but i can control the music (stop, play,FF,RW) by sliding the mouse pad thing. Indeed there is more to be desired but it is a good start, im mainly using it as a keyboard and pointer for the web browser.
I believe you need to use the Legacy option so your PS3 can detect your phone.

Has anyone else noticed that this program can freeze up the PS3?
It has happened on 3 different occasions whenever i close the MobileRemote app, the PS3 just freezes up.

I'll have to give this a shot tomorrow. This would come in handy though... I just wish that I didn't have a keyboard sitting right next to my chair... and a PSP on the shelf

So, it's possible to enter text messages too? And using the accelerometer to browse through the xmb would be cool. I'm gonna test this once i get home. :)
