Everyday i'm looking thru this forum trying to figure out how to cook roms.
I'm sure there are others out there trying to do the same. All im finding are kitchens and easybakeovens.
I really need help trying to become a cook like ttran itje ivan etc. or even better.
I made this thread to put all the links and all the programs needed to do this in on place.
If your willing to help herald please contribute we need more COOKS!!
Just to have more varieties of roms thanks:D

I have looked and haven't found much... and what I have found is very vague if that.
On top of that when I try to take a part someone elses rom's I always get errors and such.
Be nice if we got help.

Ivan's Easy Bake Oven is great.... if you can get it to work properly... of course it is called easy bake oven so its user friendly but I want something more advanced... you try to tell me you use that to build all your rom's?
Until he comes out with his new oven I am stuck using the redclean boot screen and all the apps he has in the sys folder because no one tells you what to do and what not to do.

Hmm.. that one looks extremely complicated. I know how to extract the dump with imgfs but not sure what to do after that... everyone says use bepe's kitchen but... that doesn't help since his kitchen doesn't really have instructions on what to do. I have tried to merge the JustClean rom from the easybakeoven with other roms and still no luck.
I have even tried the package tool... and it doesn't create any packages so not sure what the point is.
It would be nice if someone could respond with info that would help us in some way.

I have found the issue with creating packages... its with ASerg's recent ROM
The other ROM I liked and wanted to merge (Touch IT 7.0) works great now except for some missing files... the RGU files seem to be missing for half the stuff but the ROM is not yet complete so I understand.
I have asked ASerg and a couple others for OEM and SYS folders with no luck so I guess I am out.

OK. I'm working on a port of PPCkitchen for these ROMs. If you want, I'll post a step by step on how to cook from scratch, all the way to creating packages, etc. I also created an unreleased EasyPortKitchen so that you can port things. But truly, the best to learn is the way we all learned, trial and error. While trying to do one thing, you learn 20. Mind you... I have VERY limited time... And Just2Clean is almost done.

WOW... you do alot IVAN.
And you are completely correct every time you learn how to do one thing right... you also learn how to do that same thing wrong.
I think it would be nice to have at least some help... I finally figured out some of the issues but still since there is no documentation to any of the tools its hard to "seek help" Its not like a car or computer where you have an instruction manual and you just choose not to use it.

ivan no rush whenever you have time. I understand you have other projects neoobs and I maybe others would be glad if there was a step by step guide. I would love to learn on my own like you and others but somethings are very confusing.
maybe when we figure this out neoobs and i could work together on a rom...i dont know just a thought

It is severely messed up on both my computers running Vista... I can't even get anything to come up as all the shortcuts are messed up too... I did a fix someone had and still have tons of issues with it. Even the developer says it doesn't always work.

I've been getting lazy on porting that kitchen... so I might just start a class on cooking. Every week I'll make up a new lesson and everyone has to practice it until they get it. They can ask questions about that particular week's lesson and they will get a response from me directly. My biggest problem is that I float from one project to another... I have the attention span of a 3 year old...

ivan what's up!!
It sounds like a good plan. Just imagine each lesson could be a thread that anyone could refer to.
Your lesson may even make it into the herald wiki!!

This is what I did:
1. Learn how to create oem packages the rite way which is by hand if needed.
2. Create a good OEM from scratch to be used with any rom.
3. Learn about the SYS and what is needed and what does what.
4. Then learn how to port other roms to the wing/herald.
It all takes time and you can use any bodies kitchen, but you need to under stand the ROM itself first.
If all your doing is replacing packages in a kitchen then your not really a cook in my mind.
That was were I was at when I first started and I would never want to be there again.
Do the above, the information is all over this forum.
Read, learn, play, then cook.
The most important thing to me is a good solid OEM folder. Once you have this then the rest is cake.
Good luck and I know you will do well since you do a great job with graphics.
