View Full Version : Spb Mobile Shell 2 - Contacts App Replacement Version 0.01

I made an easy way of replacing the SPB Contacts app in Mobile Shell 2 with your own prefered application. Once you create a shortcut you can switch between the default Mobile Shell Contacts and any application of your choosing.

I made it as simple as possible to add your prefered Contacts Manager, I use Finger Friendly, my friend uses iContact, and PocketCM seems quite popular here. As downloaded, the script is setup for Finger-Friendly Friends, but to change it all you have to do is edit the first 2 lines with a text editor.

For use with SPB Mobile Shell 2 only, for Windows Mobile support see this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387264).

MortScript is requied, download it here (http://www.sto-helit.de/).

I hope you find this useful!

To use:

1. Download and unpack the ZIP file.
2. Edit the first 2 lines in the MSCR file, notepad works fine for this.

set AltContactName, "Finger Friendly Friends"
set AltContactPath, "\Program Files\Finger-Friendly Friends\FingerFriendlyFriends.exe"

3. Copy to your device, and make a shortcut in the Mobile Shell Launcher (I placed it in "TOOLS")
4. Click the shortcut and answer the "Yes or No" question.
5. Repeat step 4 to swap between the two contact managers!

what's the exact command to get it to work with pocketcm?

this is what i tried:

set AltContactName, "Pocket CM"
set AltContactPath, "\Program Files\PocketCM\PocketCM.exe"

and it didn't work.

thanks!

I have been using 3 speed dial pages for a while and have decided I don't like it anymore...

Instead I'd like the contacts tab button to start my default contact manager - Pocket Informant - since it easier to read, finger friendly, and uses categories. Will this ever be possible you think?

Unfortunately this is not possible, yet, this would take a major hack of the shell program itself.

I'm not sure what that actual path should be, as I don't use pocket CM, but please verify your path.

If the scripting does not work on your device, I appologize, it is possible your registry varies from the common windows mobile settings, and is appearently device specific.

Sorry,
but you can create a script to replace the basic program for SMS (in SPB mobile shell 2.1) with another one? (VITO SMS-chat)

Congratulations on your work

Thank you

I have reserched this and determined that changining "NOW" screen links is not possible at this time, you could create short cuts in the customizable "My Menu" though.

Hey NiteStalker, great script! Works perfect.

Would you (or anyone) know of a way to use MortScript to have the Mobile Shell email icon open up a different app (Flexmail in this case)?

Thanks again.

NOW SCREEN support is not currently possible, as this would require a major hack of the Shell Program itself, I am not skilled in that and it would most likely violate licensing anyway. I have searched the registry, and disected the "XML" files, and determined "Now Screen" support will not become available with the the current version of Shell. My appologies.

You can run it from any folder you want, just make sure you've installed mortscript first.

i wish there were a way to getting around using mortscript? i had it on my phone recently and i didn't care too much for it. that and its a huge file- over 3 MB zipped up. is there any other way of doing this without having to download a cumbersome program just to change a link? I'm not a programmer so i don't know the intricacies of all this so go easy on me. all you guys here do such a great job providing us with new and refreshing ways of looking at and using our phones. thanks for the help.

To change the contacts link in 'Organizer' on spb mobile shell go to hklm/software/spb software house 2/spb mobile shell/menu/root/organizer/contacts in your regedit and change the "type" entry to "file" and the vaule to "icontacts.exe" or the file path of your program "\program files\pocketcm\contacts.exe" this worked for me.... although it will not allow you to use "poutlook.exe contacts" wich is what i was really trying to do :S

The above may only apply if you are running greatbals diamond theme or similar. But im sure a reg tweak like this would do it...

This isn't necessary if you want to change to another contact application besides poutlook contacts, all you can do is just customize the menu and remove the default contacts and change it with a link to file iContacts.exe

Works like a charm, couldn't change Type to be file so i just created a new String Value as File with the value of "\Storage Card\Program Files\iContact\icontact.exe" and lo and behold the contact link from the contacts page now opens up iContact.

Found a problem, it stops you adding new contacts to the quick access boxes.

Im trying the same thing with wm6 and sms-chat. Independent from the sms-app and OS there seems to be no workaround for changing default sms inbox :(

Anybody made progress with this problem?
I found this link (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa446561.aspx) but im still unsure if this is even the right beginning...

This is great thanks. I was able to change the Spb link on my Omnia to the default phone book.

However, I lost the ability to cilck on a plus sign to quickly add a contact to the Spb contacts page. Is this expected bahavior? Maybe why you made it so easy to toggle back to default settings?

Thanks.

Hi guys!

I'am using Pocket Informant 8 and don't know the right entry for "AltContactPath". I already tried "\Programme\WebIS\PocketInformant\PITab.exe" and "\Programme\WebIS\PocketInformant\PITab.exe" 9 as it is listed in the reg under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\ but none of them work.

Anyone can please post the working line?

Thx a lot, best regards

Same here!

I'm using LG SK20 KiiS WM 6.1, SPB Mobile Schell 2.1.5 & iContact v6.4.5 BE

Since I'ved changed it with the script it act like this:

-[Add] When I try to add a new contact to the quick contact photo page nothing happens.

+ [Edit] Works!!! But still the problem that iContact uses the Windows Mobile Edit page (not finger friendly). But I think this has nothing to do with the script or SPB Mobile Schell. Because a finger friendly edit page is a general missing iContact feature!

+[Recent Call] Works perfect!!! Right now the only way to add new contacts to the page. Workaround for quick add of different contacts: Dial a contact and hang up immediately. The contact is now the Recent call. [Its only a workaround, so I will appreciate a fix to use the Add function]

+ [Spb Contacts] Works perfect!!! When I click on it it opens up iContact.

Are there any solutions for the Add function in sight?

Cheers

Any update on MS3 version? Also, when you do this will it make it so when you hit the "Contacts" button on the menu bar next to "Launcher" it will load whatever program you chose?

I want it so it opens my Inesoft Address Book when I click contacts instead of the SPB MS3 contacts page. It's really annoying having that useless button there.

Either that or can someone tell me how to remove the Contacts button and replace it with a new button that will load Inesoft Address Book? I've seen people adding extra buttons but all I can find is a CAB that does it for you and adds buttons that someone else needs rather then telling you how to do it.
