XDA2i baclight not working

I already own one of these and was getting one for a friend but I have problems....

The touchscreen works but the backlight wont come on. I have heard that it was upgraded to Windows 5 so it would work with Tom Tom6. It wasn't used much and there is a pic of it on ebay with the screen working....

So I am wondering what to do, as the battery would have run out in postage and I am wondering if the backlight turned off auto and can't be turned back on again!!! hmmm

all thoughts and help welcome!!!

(Do I somehow try to install a different operating system on like with my current one? )

First thing to do is switch it in and then while it is on Hold the power button down for 3 seconds as doing this once will set the backlight to off and again turns it on, failing that check the backlight sliders in settings. Failing that I would back it up and do a hard reset. LEDs can go on the screens but not often. You cant run WM5 on an XDA21 but TomTom 6 runs fine anyway on 2003se

yup did all of that, and dispite it saying 2i on the front its actually a himalaya so have posted there, looks like the lcd is damaged as i already tried what you suggested to no avail
also downloaded vjeschater programme and that didn't do it.
I then reimaged the rom to a previous version and that didn't do it so it must have been damaged in the post!!!

so I have to wait for royal mail to cough up at least a portion of the cost....
