Just tested the wing on elfin.
Reporting:
Camera - Start, but got killed.
Calender - Start, but got killed.
Audio - No sound
Mic - Working
Touchscreen - Working
Buttons - All Working
Power Button - Toggle between landscape and portrait - working
(unable to soft reset device, have to take out the battery)
Radio - Working ( But you have to switch off the Sim Card PIN in order for it to work )
Wifi - Not Working
Bluetooth - Unable to start
Calling - Managed to dial out to friend.
Hardware Clock - Big issue, after booting to Android, Windows Mobile clock system stops and after I go back to WM, the clock time is lagged. I have a feeling that its a processor issue.
Basically thats all.
I will be involved in this project (From now on)
Thanks,
Jeremy

Wow a massive leap since I last checked this project.
Would it be possible for anyone to make a video or post some photos of their phone running android?
I am considering buying another Elf and getting back onboard with this project.

Hello got Android running with qwerty.kl
Sound and Wifi is not working. Sound is a must haves for me cause without the device is nearly unusable. For the sound, there is an Erroy message after the "A N D R O I D" in the console while booting. It says that /system/bin/playmp3 was not found. mut don't know if this file will fix audio in general or provides only an mp3 codec.
edit1: how do get gsm/gprs working? ok i unlocked the simcard, but i get no connection ... there ist still the icon with the "!" in the topbar ... next to the grey signal strength indicator.
edit2: after timeout it displays my provider name, but still gets no connection ... very strange but the drive must be ok if it gets the provider.
edit3: i disabled the sim-pin, so the phone detects the operator and displays a signal strength. then i tried to set up a new APN ( http://www.android-hilfe.de/android-allgemein/56-android-apn-einstellungen-netzbetreiber-vodafone-t-mobile-e-plus-o2.html is very useful ) but i got no data connection and after the next reboot the apn was gone and the apn-list empty angain.
so there might be a problem with the settigs ... the sometimes are not saved - like the cloock date layout, if you change it to 31. dez. 2009 it will stay the old way and not apply your change. very strange ...

modify the qwerty.kl keyboard layout via remote shell. you will need a linux to do this (use a live cd without install) or another unix but un osx for ex. you have to use vim instead of gedit.
Post 3 on this page provides an walk-through:
https://sourceforge.net/apps/phpbb/wing-linux/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7&start=60#wrap
After doing this the Volume-Down will act as a Back-Button and Vol-Up as a Home-Button.
Keyboard works in Portrait and with the Camera Button you get the Menu.
edit: yes! got gprs! and internet! just make a new apn. if it does not stay and will not be saved correctly, try again and again ...
Now I am looking for an app to search and download new Android programms.

You need to install another cab.. I think the one for Herald. There is no separate cab for Elfin.
1. Create a text file qwerty.kl (make sure extension is .kl)
2. Paste the correct key mappings for elfin, provided earlier in this thread , into qwerty.kl file and save.
3. Once Android is booted, If you have only Windows (no linux or OS X) PC, use winscp to transfer the qwerty.kl file to the android file system /system/usr/keylayout/ . The root password for Android is wing.
If you cant follow the above steps or you find it difficult, its probably too early in the development for you to follow. I would suggest that you wait until there is a more user friendly method to boot Android.
If you do follow the steps and are able to get Android, don't complain about the missing features or things not working. People are working hard on getting it to work..

hey i am a fresh man for this post i can't use any botton in android of my elf

By reading the earlier posts (just a few pages from here, you don't need to read the all thread don't worry)
Please guys, read before asking, and remember this is just an early version of Android and though it starts and "run" better than anything before, it's still far from being complete for now (no sound, applications crashs, no wifi, no camera, no BT, ...) Leave time the Wing project's masters to move it forward (if you want to contribute and know how to code a kernel, feel free to contact them directly, I am sure they'll be delighted ;) )

You need to keep pressing some button to make sure taht the device is awake.. coz if you leave the device for some time without pressing any button it will goto standy mode and some linux commands will be running.. at that time the transfer commands wont work.. so make sure to keep pressing some button while running the commands to copy qwerty.kl from/to the device..

Angstrom sets things up so your phone is at 10.100.0.1. So, you need to set your ethernet device on your computer to 10.100.0.2 in order for things to work (on Windows, set this address manually -- DHCP won't work). Then you should be able to connect to 10.100.0.1 using the username and password above.

So, all I have to do is install Wing linux thing, then replace the zImage file and then boot it?

What is available on that android right now? And is it "fast enough" ? Does it lag or does it run decently?

It's not bad, but you still can't use it for normal use: you can't use the phone (the microphone works, but the audio doesn't), and some other things like wifi are missing...
However, i like it a lot :)
There's any way to exit from Android without need of soft reset the device?

try flashing the unbricker rom from sd, it might work.

Virtual keyboard should be there in the package, wondering why its not working for you. Try this, normally you will have to double tap on the text field to invoke the virtual keyboard...try this and let us know if you were able to invoke VK

yes, for clarity am listing down the steps i used:
-download the wing-linux-0.4pre3.zip (https://sourceforge.net/projects/wing-linux/)
-move it from pc to storage card (create a folder in the root of the SD and move the cabs in)
- Install wing-linux-0.4pre3-rootfs.cab then the wing-linux-0.4pre3-herald.cab
- before you run the haret.exe replace the new zimage in storage card\linux folder (overwrite, or take backup)
- run haret.exe
- normally it takes little bit of time to boot for the first time.
- there it goes Android boots up and works. so far sms is working, am trying to get gprs working by setting APN.
i am trying to find MCC and MNC for my device network, tried this 1st 3 numbers of IMEI as MNC and next 3 numbers for MCC, doesnt work. if anyone knows help me.

I didn't try to double-tab for the keyboard :O gonna try!
For installation, I did exactly like you did, android booted up but I can't manage to get keys working (Camera for menu etc)
And is it normal that I get a notification saying Memory storage is gettng low? (or something similar)
EDIT: Double-tap for keyboard didn't work, notification says Low on space, so I guess it's talking about memory storage left, would it be useful tu reinstall everything?

hmm...not sure why. keyboard works fine for me.
i get notification popup for applications like browser. Asks me whether i want to wait for the application to respond or force close it. Never a word about low storage/memory explicitly.
if you had followed the steps correctly and still these issues, dont think reinstalling will help. how much of storage space you have in your storage card?

BUMP FOR MY QUESTION: How to make device sleep on Android without the BIOS saying things like "lock on wakeup" "android power suspend" etc. ?
And how to make device Vibrate? I know sound isn't available but vibrations should be, aren't they?

To sleep push the right button (finish call) this is the only way.
One question, im testing it, i would like to know if someone can use wifi on Elf? I think its not working yet but anyone can use it? and what about sound?
I dont want a newbie answer, im talking about developers working on it or working in the project.

Okay so tomorrow I'm gonna make a new thread with all resumed, but I''ll not be often available to update it so I wonder if it's a good idea lol :P
@betzero: Thanks for your answer ;-) does it suck battery when it sleeps that way more than when it sleeps fully?
And what about Vibrate? Is it available yet?

I just played with Android on the elf.
For installing apps:
he
Connect to the root directory with
sudo ifconfig usb0 10.100.0.2 up
ssh root@10.100.0.1
Password for root: "wing" englisch
Copy and Paste the apk file to \Data\app\
Thanks for all the people which cook roms for the elf and to all Android developer here.
