View Full Version : Thread for Athenas "bricked" by the Prerelease AP4 rom
cmonex

...which rom wasn't supposed to be posted publicly but some moron did so. :sigh:
so post your problems here - or if they are in the more serious category then read below. they'll get fixed sometime.
note that by default we need time for more important things than fixing devices that got screwed up with the prerelease crap.
still you can get help here if we get the time.
anyway, there are two main types of "bricks"
- device with interrupted flashing attempts to AP4, then reflashed AP3, AP4 flashed finally, which has resulted in dead wlan (wifi won't turn on). in this case, if you can, please post your old MAC too (sometimes found on the inside of the battery door), if you can't, then post the MAC of another wlan device nearby, a slightly changed version of that will be flashed back to your athena. because the wlan unbricking file has to be unique for everyone, get on IRC or PM me or Olipro to get it fixed, and hope we have enough time soon - you can negotiate with Olipro to allocate some of his time to you. (though after releasing the *final* AP4 we probably will have more time anyway.)
- interrupted flash, with invalid model ID after trying to flash another rom (AP3 or anything) on it. this is the worst type of brick (wlan is corrupt too, of course). again, get on IRC or PM me or Olipro to get it fixed, and hope we have enough time soon - you can negotiate with Olipro to allocate some of his time to you. (though after releasing the *final* AP4 we probably will have more time anyway.)
- and one last type that isn't really a brick: interrupted flash, device won't boot to OS, but you are able to reflash AP3 (and wifi and all works ok). ---> so, if your device has just got to black screen after unsuccessful flash with prerelease AP4, and you're not sure what to do: flash AP3 back and see if everything is fine. in this case please wait for final AP4 after you got AP3 back on it.
AND ONE REQUEST: if you got such a "brick", let me know if you were using a 32-bit or 64-bit Windows.

Mac 00092DF5F847 - I didn't realise it was on the inside of the battery door! Had to take the kids out yesterday which is why I disappeared from IRC.
Mine is the first type - Got AP4 but no WiFi - I don't want to take you away from the real work so reply when / if it suits you.
Thanks again for all your help.

Why? I new I was using 'unauthorised' software - why should I expect support? My fault, my problem.

Agreed. Everyone should have known it wasn't an official release...especially if they downloaded and used 3.0. They know how our ROMs are released and to install something that's leaked is done at your own risk and dime.
Now, we're hoping to finalize this stubborn SPL and remove the final bugs shortly. This is a GREAT DAMN ROM!!!! :D

Sorry. In a juvenile mood tonight! It's absolutely right tho, they didn't want it released and irus broke the rules. Pretty bloody stupid really.

Dear cmonex,
I had this kind of a problem. Maybe nice to know that my phone also went in a boot loop when I went back to AP3.0. That's why I use the second pre released of AP4.0 from IRC.

And like Olipro said - they have now decided we are not worth it - so I have no problem 'hijacking' this thread. They have 'closed' it from there point of view so, unless you were as stupid as me, why are you posting in this thread?

Have you not learnt by now to take Oli's rantings with a pinch of salt?
Cmonex appears to have a heart of gold, and will help those who need it.
And she might even mellow Oli a little.
Confucious
14th April 2008, 11:20 PM
Yes - and she already has, haven't you noticed?
Oli has a problem with anyone who isn't as intelligent as him (which is most people) but cmonex is - and she's nice as well. That seems to have confused the F*ck out of him. Together they make a great team - but they owe me slightly less than nothing!
Confucious
15th April 2008, 12:59 AM
And I owe them somewhat more than that as they have just fixed my phone - doing something that no-one else can is a great feeling ( I had it when I was young but you soon grow old!)
If you can help other people you do find that what goes round comes round.
Oli is a genius but had an attitude problem - I think cmonex is doing him the world of good.
cmonex is a genius and is really nice with it.
You can see her influence on him! Oli - she's done you good.
Are you not in London Thurs? Can't you stay one more day?

i know about that - AP3 just needs the new nk.exe, without it it hard resets on every reboot (and running customizations does a reboot of course)

If Oli and cmonex get swamped with requests, perhaps I can help some of you with invalid ModelID's. I was to be a legitimate tester and I ended up stuck there for several weeks, but finally made it back to AP3.0 now on to testing AP4.0, (For those of you who got bricked inappropriately, perhaps you could sit on the sidelines for two or three weeks, sweating your loss.)
Cmonex and Oli were of great help to me with this over that time, we just struggled with it a bit too much until it got solved. Now that we know what fixed mine, we will see if others respond to the same fix.
Symptoms: Unlocker did not properly update to the new (required) SPL or you did not have the new SPL and tried flashing AP4.0 -it failed around 91%. You are now stuck in bootloader and can't flash anything due to the Invalid ModelID error message.
I will only help you try to get back to AP3.0 and your WiFi will likely be messed up. Once we get you back to a bootable OS, your ModelID will still be funky, but from there cmonex and/or Oli can get that recovered for you. I would offer to help with this too, but it was not something I solved. I only solved getting the AP3.0 ROM to reflash with the funky ModelID.
OK to send me a PM and we'll arrange a time to look at your specifics. I'm only offering this to take some of the load of cmonex and Oli as they have more important things to finish for the rest of the community.

Raskell

@ raskell - thanks for the help :)
@ everyone: if you find your GPS stopped working too, then flash this NBH to revive it (attached).
i.e. just use the normal RUU, put the NBH in the RUU folder, make sure you don't have *ANY* other NBH files in the folder then flash it.

Just a quick note to see if there are still any out there with their Athena bricked? If so, surely you want to fix that, contact the AP team.

They should be back shortly. They had some things outside of cyberlife to tend to. I'm sure they will finish what they started.
To everyone else,,,,remember we advise not to flash the pre-release yet because this might happen.

we were away from the computer for a while, sorry.
you can now message Olipro or me on MSN.
by the way your model ID has been fixed, the problem is now something else. for some reason your device will not boot any OS fully.
best so far was when it was able to boot to half of the desktop (then freeze), yes?

also, here is AP3 version I made that will work properly if you upgraded to new SPL but want to go back to AP3 from the AP4 beta.
download:
http://htc-hackers.com/uploads/ap3newspl.zip
NOTE: this will only work if you ran the AP4 package (prerelease, final (when it comes out) etc.) and your SPL now is version 3.xx.OliNex (check in bootloader/tricolour screen).

@cmonex,
This is from banyas post. He seems overly excitable about his Athena being bricked. He's posting everywhere.
I'm not sure his Model ID is fixed. He may be missing part based on what he sent me earlier. Some is there but not all and it may have other stuff added on. I'm trying to get him to reply back to my earlier pm so I can assess where he really is. Let me know if you have any updates from him as well.

his model ID is fixed because he is able to flash roms without editing the modelid in NBH header.
you can bet that that "ath100" is a typo ... and did you specifically ask him to write IPL version or the "Olipro" string?
problem is, he's unable to hard reset, DOC format fails.

Yes, I have been asking those who are bricked and need help to start communication by writing down everything they see on their bootloader screen - basically to see if they have the ModelID problem or not.

Hi, cmonex,
I tried to follow the thread you mentioned:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387454
but I could only find the fix for wifi, not for Invalid Model ID.
Can you help on this one as it happened to me recently (Athena/X7500, while trying to downgrade SPL from AP4 so I can use NavNGo8).
What kind of info do you need from my phone (pic of the screen, eg)?
Thanks, all the best ...

Hi, all,
just to make it public (I have to say this to someone, as I'm so excited) ... I read carefully the fix above and it was perfect, my device is back to life.
Thanks, cmonex, thanks folks!
PS: for sure I will make a donation.
