Hello,

I download the youtubeplay latest version. the file comes zipped and when i extract it to my computer there is no cab file only xml , i tried it many times but no cab file only xml. so how do i go through installation process ?

any help ?

thanks.

I think you're confused. This .cab file that you've downloaded from the link at the 1st page is not a zip file, even when you can open and extract it with zip/unzip programs, says Winrar.

It's actually a setup package used for PPC. Just copy this .cab file to your PPC and run from there and everything will be ok :)

Handy little program. I enjoy it alot. Just reset my Kaiser because of slowness issues. Funny enough, it seems that WM61 includes the framework natively to support this app now.

Great work. My hat is of to all involved in developing this program... programmer and feedbackers alike.

Can someone compare this youtubeplay with the freeware tool Web Video Downloader (http://wvd.jm-dev.com/)?
I'll try wvd soon, will try to report back after some tests...

Update: ok, after first test, I now see WVD can only download (what's in a name ;)). The interface has a lot of options and some nice layout, but I like the easy way to playback movies from youtubeplay...

I've been able to install this program (version 1.0.0.11), but when I try to search some video in it, an error saying "Search failed, internet connection not working or timeout" appears inmediately and I cannot use it.

I have a hx4700 with WM6.1. I'm connected through a wifi connection and all the other software (email, opera, etc...) works perfectly.

Anybody knows what is causing this issue?

thanks

For some reason on my Pal Treo 800w it will not stream the videos. It will download the videos just fine but when I tap the videos in the search field nothing happens. I tried to enable HTC streaming but it said it could not find a player and would use the internal player. Then nothing changes, I even go back and find it unchecked. Any ideas?

First of all, hats off to the developer. Great job.

I love saving the files and playing them back later.

Very easy program to use.

The only issue I have is that I can't make a video stop. I have to click it several times and sometimes nearly the rest of the song will play before it finally stops. And this is with songs I have saved to the hard drive and loaded back up.

Any ideas?

Also, buffer size being set to 2048. Any benefits/drawbacks to lowering or raising that number. I am trying to double it to 4096 to see if it performs better. A lot of times when I first search and play a video I found it will play fine for a little while then bog down and pause for great periods of time. The save and reload comes in handy in cases where I want to keep the video anyway.

Any thoughts would be appreciated on both fronts.

Thought you might want to know that youtubeplay v1.0.0.11 works on my HP iPAQ rx3715 running Windows Mobile 2003 Second Addition.

One minor "bug" that you may want to look into is (on my iPAQ) the close button seems to require several presses after the video has ended before the video closes.

If I press the stop button first (even though the video has ended), then the close button, the video closes without problem.

Thanks!

If it is not, if there is any similar application for this platform? ;) I don't beleive so. At least, not without a little tweaking on your part. I think I read somewhere that there are ways to use programs designed for devices with a touch screen on smartphone platforms. I just can't remember at the moment.

Just, I have installed the 1.0.0.11 version and 3.5NET framework, but the application sometimes is running too slow, sometimes show the security cockie error, sometimes shows the -3 error, and sometimes freeze.....

Sometimes I'm searching some specific video and don't appears in the youtube play windows......I make the search again and then it appears....

May be try with older versions? 1.0.0.9 or less?

PD: I'm was recommended this application because I can't make works the FLV pluggin for my TCMP core player 0.72 or 0.81.....always shows: RTSP protocol not supported....

Much thanks for this app, works great.
The official app won't install because I am "unsupported" and their java version doesn't work either. Works OK on edge and even OK with large buffering with gprs. It would be nice to be able to select where to buffer. (ie. storage card) It would also be nice to be able to jog using the play slider. I noticed that restarting a video causes the buffer to be purged. It would be nice to be able to replay the video without re-downloading. (maybe show the size of the video so that the buffer can be set large enough.) Again much thanks for this app, I have been searching for this since I got this PDA.:D

Latest version (1.0.0.11) works great on my Sharp w-zero3. Occasional problems with the close button - even had to use the FreeupRAM tool - accessible from the Start menu - to stop the program because I was unable to go to Today screen a couple of times.
Also noticed that you can start multiple instances of the app. - press the icon accidentally and then had three instances running.

Otherwise, as I already said - GREAT!

hi,

i'm using the latest youtubeplay program, which is pretty great by the way, and was wondering if it's possible that video-links from opera-mobile are automatically opening in youtubeplay.
Right now, the htc-streaming-media-player is opening as the default application, which is not working for me.

i'm running wm6.1 and youtubeplay works fine but the connection between the browser and the program would be great.

thnx in advance.

This app no longer works. milesmowbray did some cool stuff (like the recomp of TCPMP) but seems to be absent nowadays...

Youtube changed the way the website worked and the app hasn't been updated to be compatible with the new version.

With WVD (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427702) streaming is currently failing (TCPMP fault?). But you can dowload them and play them after. At least this is what happens to me.

Your best bet is the official Youtube app (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=508984) or Skyfire (http://www.skyfire.com/).

the problem with de official youtube app, is than you can't download a video in order to view it later, just online, and when you don't have an unlimited data plan, better download the video by WiFi and save it for later

I don't think the source was released... No recomp is possible so you'd have to redo the whole thing...

The video player overlay is hacked out of TCPMP and the FLV part is based on FFMPEG.

I'd rather prefer see parts of TCPMP being used to further improve ffplay.

@ mccoffein !

First of all, thank you for your efforts to develop a 'new youtubeplay'.

The recent youtubeplay supports WM2003.

Will you include this in your version (or tool), too?

Me and everybody else, still using these older devices, would appreciate this very much.

How should I save a video file for good resolution on YouTube? I am using Windows Movie Maker and in the past the good resolution files are too large to upload to YouTube, but then when I make the file smaller, the video has really bad quality. In the past, the "YouTube Uploader" has not worked. Is that the only way to upload high quality videos to YouTube, or is there a way to have a smaller file but still have a decent resolution?

Dont know when the first release will be finished.

But definitly. It wont work under windows mobile 2003 because there are some 3th party libraries who wont run under it.

Please, donīt ignore these WM 2003 users (or at least WM2003SE)! Not everybody can afford a new device just because of this one app.

Could you at least release a version with some reduced features which does support that older OS? I mean, certainly, the main feature is to be able to play the videos and maybe to download them to be played later on (the second one would be the most important one, I guess). I donīt think, any further features are as important as that.

I'm using youtubeplay 1.0.0.11 on a Dell Axim x51v PDA running WM5 and .NET CF 2 SP2. The CPU speed is 624 mHz. When I start youtubeplay, there are no other programs running, and 31 of the 49 mb. of allocated RAM are available. The performance of the program is usually excellent, except for two problems:
1) It sometimes crashes during the playing of a video. I never know when to expect this, and it happens with videos of various lengths, not just the big ones.
The app closes, and the error message never stays on the screen long enough to see the details, but I can make out "stack overflow error". I'm wondering if this may be connected with my settings. I've been running the app with the default buffer size of 2048 kb. In fact, everything on the config screen is the default except for the results returned, which I have set to the maximum of 50.

Are there any changes I could make to correct this?

2) A few of the .MP3s I've extracted with youtubeplay have peculiar length indications. For example, a clip that is only supposed to run for about 5 minutes shows a total length of 22 minutes in my MP3 player. The file size is as expected for a 5-minute clip, and playback starts and stops where it is supposed to, but if I advance the player beyond the actual length of the clip, it will replay, as if there were several copies of the same audio clip strung together!

Not a major problem, but I'm curious about the cause of it.

This is my YouTube search/player application. Bit like the latest CorePlayer.

It allows you to search for videos in a nice friendly Pocket PC 2003 and greater app and then stream the full FLV video (not miniscule MPEG4 versions) within its own player.

Is there any plans for this player to pick up subscriptions, quicklist or favorites by youtube account? If not - is anyone aware of a player that will do so?

I've also noticed that when I find a youtube ID I like - I can't sort for most recent posts. Those two things would be huge.

Is there a progress bar when buffering, like the one in the htc original player?

22nd June 2010, 10:54 PM
Your free to use whatever app... But unfortunately the author of youtubeplay hasn't updated the app or posted in these forums for over a year and a half. Some people have issues. When compatibility totally breaks and judging for his activity I'd say it's unlikely there'll be any new version.

By using an external app to parse the links you can use a different player (for one with TCPMP you can choose the video driver with the best performance in your device and also there are new builds which may prove faster).

milesmowbray also did a great job on TCPMP and I'm extremely thankful that bimbam decided to pick it up. Unfortunately there were no sources released for youtubeplay so there won't be updates done by other developers (unless someone decompiles it and uses that as the base source).

Hmm I haven't used it in a while because my phone broke, but last I remember I was having connection issues, I guess they blocked it, I still have PSP Tube on my PSP and don't think that works either (haven't really used it since I had my phone).

But my new phone they are sending me is an HTC Magic so I need a way to download and extract audio from Youtube on that...

Maybe there is a way to run Windows Mobile on the HTC Magic, but it probably would be better to just find an Android alternative...

Actually, youtubeplay still functions as an excellent FLV player and MP3 extractor. Too bad it no longer works online, but if you can download the videos another way (e.g. with Getytv), youtubeplay can be very useful; it's still my default FLV player.

Here are the files for the app. No .CAB installation necessary; just put all the files in the folder of your choice, then make a start menu shortcut to the .exe file.

I donīt submit, if GetyTV offers to play the FLV in the default player! I denied, close this app und then I open youtubeplay. But Iīm only extract MP3 with it. If I want to watch the Video I use TCPMP with flash-plugin.

Looks like Invario found out something regarding the way youtube URL's are structured. If anyone can use that info, found Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=519543 to redefine the way Youtubeplay "Grabs" videos, this may be the solution we've been looking for.
