First of all, not being able to find your device is 'normal' ... until you've made an activesync connection, you won't see your device.

Now, for your activesync problem, do you see an error code? Like 80004005 or 80006007?

It's a pretty common problem for activesync, but from my experience it seems to pop its ugly head a lot more often for WM6 devices than the older OS, like the 'tried and tested' WM2003SE platform.

There could be many causes for this. I'd suggest going through the following steps to try to fix it:

1. Disable all the items under Option (calender, contacts, notes, everything) and see if it can be connected via Activesync. If it can't, you're really screwed ... go to step 5

2. Disconnect your phone, and close Outlook on your PC. Now find scanpst.exe on your PC (installed with Outlook) and run it to scan and fix your .pst file.

3. Re-connect your phone, now add the options 1 by 1. I'd start with Notes, then contacts and calender. See if running scanpst.exe fixes the problem. If you're luck, you could be out of the woods by now.

4. If you get the same error after adding a particular item in option, that help you isolate where the problem is. Look at the entries in that item (calender, contact, notes etc) and see if there's anything that casues the problem. Relocate the items if necessary and add them 1 by 1.

5. If everything fails, or if you don't even care about the programs you've installed on the phone, just do a hard-reset (hold down green + red button at the same time, poke the reset button while still holding down the buttons, and press "select" when the messge appears on screen) and connect the phone to the PC and see if it syncs. If your phone can't even sync fresh after a hard-reset, send the phone back for repair.

I know from my experience, moving the contacts and adding them 1 by 1 got me out of the woods 1 time, and the other time I had to do a hard-reset ... good thing I backup my device weekly.

Good luck!

My bet is that you have a bad USB cable.

I have definitely seen the exact error messages and problems you describe with a HTC Universal.

Hi number 16,

Could you tell me where exactly are located the *pst. files? When I try to run scanpst.exe, it tells me to browse to the respective file, but I can't find it.
Thanks a lot.

The .pst file is the Outlook data file. Close outlook first, and right click on the icon to go to "Properties". From there you can see the location of your current .pst file location.

Hi number16

Thanks for your suggestions but I had already tried steps #1 to # 4. After that I had deleted all the relationship.

Now at present I don’t have any relationship for my device to PC.(When I had plug-in my device and tried to sync through ActiveSyc 4.5 it will show me Guest or new name for relationship.)

On some different forum they have some kind of problem there it was suggested to delete the Windows/ Temp folders files so that it will resolve the above problem.

Any think else you would like to suggest.

Hope somebody help me..

Hi

As I connect my device to PC ActiveSyc was automaticly runs and tried to get relationship but unfortunatly not able to sync.

I am sure my USB Cable is in good condition because I am able to transfer files from Device to PC or vise verse.

any thing else you would like to suggest.

Have you *tried* another USB cable?
(I know, I know... but a cable that fails to sync can transmit data, I have seen this - it is strange but true).

Also
you may inadvertently have disabled a network connection on your PC. If you connect you should see a network icon showing like it is trying to obtain an ip address. If you disable that by accident it can also prevent connections but I still think you should try a new cable then check your network connections

Hey Sandi!
Have you tried unchecking the option under Settings\(System or Connection)\Usb to PC ?
Also, have you looked the pins of the miniUSB port? Are they in good shape?
Regards!

1. Try:
Under Settings\(System or Connection)\Usb to PC = UNCHECKED status.
2. So you've tried a new cable and nothing changed! But I told you about the miniUSB port in your phone! Do you see any broken, twisted pins in there? I'm telling you this because I had my phone's pins broken and I have no connectivity via usb anymore!
Regards!

Hi Saisan

I would counsel that you should try another PC first.

Next step:
Unplug your device...

Uninstall Activesync, remove the registry keys for the program and reboot. Download the latest release of ActiveSync and install that.

I would also suggest you could do worse than enable "SHOW_HIDDEN_DEVICES" in device manager and remove all greyed out items under USB in device manager (WITH YOUR DEVICE NOT ATTACHED) then reboot and reconnect your device.

Failing that you probably have either a connectivity issue (physical cables or connectors) or you have a logical connection issue (I think there is a possiblity that you have inadvertantly disabled a network connection).

When you connect a WM6 device it creates a new network connection which generally appears in the system tray. If you disable this (right click disable) active sync will stop working.

If you go into your network connections folder and re-enable any items that are disabled it should work. PROVIDED YOU HAVE TURNED OFF WINDOWS FIREWALL FIRST...

It does sound like a physical cable or connection problem though.

Hope that helps

hi kokotas

I had goen throught the steps:
Under Settings\(System or Connection)\Usb to PC = unchecked.
and checked the pins are not broken and twisted but unfortunatly it is giveing me same error.

I think I will rediscribe my issue. I am able connect my device but unable to syncronize it .

Problem: I have HTC Touch (Black one) P3450 from last few days while I
connect my device to PC i am getting below error message.

error: "Synchronization cannot be completed successfully. Reconnect
your device and try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft

I hope now it was clear.

Hi leon

Thanks for your advice. but I had tried this think already.
I had reinstalled Activesync 4.5 on new machine and tried to get sync.

I think there were some logical connection issue on which I am unable to create the relationship with my device from PC.

I had also tried to delete all the pervious relationship's and reconnected the same.

On some other forum it was suggested to delete the files from Windows/Temp directory from Device. but in HTC Touch when I connect the device it will automatically start activesync and it was connected but not sync.
shows message:

error: "Synchronization cannot be completed successfully. Reconnect
your device and try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft
ActiveSync Troubleshooter in Microsoft ActiveSync Help on your desktop
computer."

please help in this regards.

Hi Sandi,

Have you found a solution yet?

I've been facing the same problem for sometime now. Additionally, all files on my touch have become read-only. I can't copy, move or delete any files on the phone. :(

Hi Saisan
You don't say what happened when you reset your P3450 then connected it with a new cable on a new PC running XP SP2 and a fresh install of ActiveSync 4.5 freshly downloaded from Microsoft?

I suspect (but cannot confirm until you feedback) that you have a bad port (PC or PPC end), a bad cable or a "phantom" device in device manager.

Can you try a new cable on a camera to ensure it works then try that new cable on the new PC with a new ActiveSync install and report back?

You could try disconnecting your phone and then unhiding hidden devices in XP device manager and deleting all the grayed out USB devices. Go look at labmice for some guidance there.

Reset your phone, Reboot the PC and then connect, failing that try looking in your network connections in XP and re-enabling the disabled network connecion (whilst you P3450 is plugged in).

To be honest if it isnt any of those you have a busted phone
