Impact of a recession on the mobile wireless industry

So, I don't like my current job.. and I was thinking about going with T-Mobile.. it sounds like a good place to move up.

But I'm afraid if I leave my current job, and the recession hits us full-fledged... I might get "laid" off.

Question is, how much has American grown dependent on having cell phones?
