Vox Kitchen 1.2
New Version here... (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551366)
http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/1038/unbenanntjc0.th.jpg (http://img234.imageshack.us/my.php?image=unbenanntjc0.jpg)http://img234.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif (http://g.imageshack.us/thpix.php)
For all things you can do with the kitchen, please look at the thumbnail!
Changes:
version 1.2:
added a 2nd method to extract ROMs (mainly for non-Vox-ROMs)
I think I updated some tools (I don't really remember^^)
version 1.1:
fixed some minor problems
added an emulator dumper
Requirements:
dotNET Framework (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&DisplayLang=en) (at least 2.0)
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9b2da534-3e03-4391-8a4d-074b9f2bc1bf&DisplayLang=en)
Windows XP is recommended, but not necessary any more, I always cook under Vista (or Windows Server 2008)
Kitchen has to be located like this: %systemdrive%\Vox Kitchen\... -- So in the "Vox Kitchen"-folder should be the bat, the exe and all the folders (OEM,SYS,ROM,TOOLS)!
Downloads:
The download comes in two parts!
First is the TOOLS folder, the "Vox Kitchen.exe" and the "Use Kitchen.bat".
The second part are the ROM, SYS and OEM folders.
Download exe, bat and TOOLS folder (http://www.mediafire.com/?onmdmn00g45)
+
Download ROM (http://www.mediafire.com/?iemaryjrnwn) + OEM (http://www.mediafire.com/?mi4mgxg1ndd) + SYS (http://www.mediafire.com/?ttnilzimtyy) for WM6.1 (Rose folders)
Neo-Package (http://www.mediafire.com/?hzmwx0y5mjz) (replace the SYS packages)
WM 6.1 Languages (http://www.mediafire.com/?u1nyvmxgm0n)
You can still use the batch version, it's included, but I don't update it any more!
http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/4733/kitchenil6jt7.th.jpg (http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/4733/kitchenil6jt7.jpg)
Download ROM (ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Smartphone/Vox/Vox%20Kitchen%200.3/kitchen/rom.exe) + OEM + SYS for WM 6.0 (ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Smartphone/Vox/Vox%20Kitchen%200.3/kitchen/oem%20sys.exe)
And of course Thanks to Dr. G!!!

What is the BEST Vox Kitchen available with host of features?
frauhottelmann
20th April 2008, 03:58 PM
What do you mean by "host of features"? They're all the same regarding features. The first two are from Dr.G and then I did some fine tuning for 0.3 and this one. I'll add some screenshots!

I'll give this a try as I'm still wating for the Visual ROM Studio that is been developed by a user on here gets Vox ROM editing capabilities. If I manage to cook a decent ROM based on frauhottelmann's Lite WM6.1 ROM or Dr. G's full WM6.1 ROM then I will post it on here for people to try.

would it work or not?
and why does it need VC++?

You can easily try it. It's for BuildOS. Open the bat and go to build and Start BuilOS. If it opens 2005 is fine!

I'm havingg trouble building a custom ROM. I complete Build Os completes, but I can not make the ROM flashable as HTC ROM tool does not let me finish the build proces throwing up an error saying I need to assign at least 1 Firmware block. How do I do this as create ROM does not explain and the wiki does not have any info on the new kitchen?

The only device in the list is somethin called Arte 1000 but the Excalibur is listed in the config files. Please help
Has anyone else noticed that wm5torage causes Build OS to not completley work, and the only way to get Build OS to work is to de-select wm5torage from the list of packages?

Hi frauhottelmann,
I think the HTC ROM Tool is not emmulator, but it is used to extract the rom from device (.nb to .nbh). I am not sure, but just reading the thread:

frauhottelmann
23rd April 2008, 06:05 PM
No no no I know that. I mean these are the settings you need to build the ROM! The tool is needed to build the *.nbh from all the files you get from prepare_imgfs.exe and BuildImgfs.exe. I mean the device emulator from M$!

My kitchen is in C:\Vox Kitchen. I'm not at my laptop at the moment but will have a look as soon as I get home. Does it make any difference to the HTC ROM Tool that I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate x86?

They were all there but only htcrt_config.ini was the same as the one in the zip file, the other two were smaller.
I replaced the three files but still no Excalibur in the device list. Grr this is starting to bug me, as I'm close to building my first ROM.

Yeah I have got SP1 installed. If it is a problem with Vista SP1 ten I'll install Windows XP on a Microsoft Virtual PC HD.
HTC ROM Tool does not work properly in Windows Vista SP1. I installed Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 and then installed Windows XP SP2 as a virtual
machhine and was able to build a flashable OS.nbh file using HTC ROM Tool.

I built my ROM under Win XP Pro SP2 in a virtual machine on my Vista Laptop and then copied the ROM back to Vista and flashed the ROM to my phone under Vista, ended up going back to Dr Gs WM6 New Guava v1.0 ROM for a bit.

I had to flash from sd to recover my phone. This is the first issue I have had with flashing under Vista, if my Win XP Laptop was not burried under loads of cd's I would have used that to build the ROM and flash my phone instead of Win XP in a virtual machine to build the ROM. Will try it again using Win XP at the weekend as I'm at the girlfriends until Friday and she has only got a Mac mini so I'm iunable to back up my phone until the weekend.

any of experienced cooks can give me some help on editing the ROM. What I am after is some tips about how to add or remove applications, what do I have to look for.
I have added an OEM application created from a cab, by putting the output directory into the OEM folder within kitchen, and sucesfully flashed the ROM, but the application is not properly installed.
Similarly, when I remove the app, do I just delete the directory form the OEM or SYS, or do I need to do anything else.
thanks in advance

Here is a preview of the new GUI kitchen. Just extract it to the kitchen folder (%systemdrive%\Vox Kitchen).
All function should work, except the building wizard.
A lot of functions are still command line, but that'll change with the actual release.

Great work Frauhottelmann,
It makes cooking much easier and simpler.
Few suggestions if I may.
When making a splash screen, batch file is throwing some errors, that can be ignored, because it tried to delete files that don't exist.
I have modified the batch to check for the files before it tries to delete it.
Similarly registry hives can be moved back by the batch file.
cheers

Don't know if this would be considered OT or not but here goes.
I have downloaded XIP 20926 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420419) and want to insert it into an existing ROM. According to the instructions in the thread "To build ROM with new XIP you must: put "MSPPCXIPKernel" and "MSXIPKernel" folders to "SYS" folder", but these folders do not exist in the VOX Rom. I was able to find the contents of MSPPCXIPKernel in SYS>OS folder, but wanted to know where to put the rest of the new XIP files.

hey frauhottelmann,
i have experience cooking roms for the apache 6700, but now i have a libra (5800) for veizon and there seems to be very little support for it. i would like to get started by upgrading it to wm 6.1, and then move into customizations, but i can't even find a stock wm 6.0 rom. Where do i start? How did you get to the point where you are at with the vox? where can i find a good getting started guide to extracting the .nhb, etc, files from the device and tearing it apart and reconstructing it into a custom rom? and do you have any guidance on how to find the stock vzw rom for this phone?

Dear frauhottelmann,
One question before I try cooking my first custom ROM, if I screw up my vox, which is almost certain :D, then how do I get my vox back on its feet? Can you please help / guide me on this.
Thanks in advance
frauhottelmann
15th December 2008, 04:45 PM
Well, it's pretty much impossible to actually brick the Vox if you are cooking ROMs. You should not touch the OEMDrivers folder, to ensure that the device works, but it can of course always happen that it doesn't boot. I this happens, just flash back a working ROM (not a HTC ROM, since you would have to do USPL again...). BTW I always flash from SD-Card, it's faster. Oh and whie you are cooking, don't delete anything you don't know what it is...:D
I might even upload the folders of the Rose v0.3 later, but you don't have to wait for that. The 6.1 folders that are online work pretty good, espacially if you are trying to get some experience. Be aware that a lot of the files are hidden and system files and write-protected. Just remove these restrictions if you don't want them.

Dear fh, one last question, before I cook my ROM:-
is it possible to remove office and incorporate Docs2Go? Or may be remove office only (and make more free space available, so that I can later on install Docs2Go in that space)?
Thanks in advance
frauhottelmann
4th January 2009, 06:37 PM
Of course. Just remove the Office folders from SYS and it's gone. You have to try to convert the Docs2Go cab into a OEM package, try the package creator on the editing tab! You won't get more space through removing office, but you could use this space for D2G if you leave it in the windows folder. Office runs directly from the ROM part of the storage and oem packages usually get copied to the normal part, thus taking up space. The copying is done with the initflashfiles.txt in each package folder.

Up in one day ???
For your rom, you can use kitchen in this thred and understand how it works.
I think frauhottelmann's kitchen is one of the best kitchens on this xda site, with a real good gui application.
Try to understand the way of cooking, it's very long, i tried 2 months to create my first kitchen/rom... Here you have a very good kitchen tool, and sources (OEM/ROM/SYS), frauhottelmann can't make it better, it's already a perfect tool.
Just search on this forum to understand what is : *.nbh, *.nb, OEM/ROM/SYS, *.mui files etc and how to dump an reconstruct a rom.
You have a lot of tutorials here (see the wiki).

I downloaded nd extracted the vox kitchen files to c:\vox kitchen in an XP running on virtualPC. However, when I try to run vox kitchen.exe, I get the following error:
The application failed to initialize properly( 0xc0000135) click ok to terminate application.
:mad::mad::(
Is there a compatibility issue with XP?
Update: SOLVED:):p:):D
My mistake...
I forgot to install vcredist nd dotnet.
The program works in vista, but encounters a problem in the build portion.
When I start G'reloc, it says:"cannot open file c:\vox kitchen\SYS\.VM\imageinfo.bin
The problem persists in XP.
:mad::confused::mad:
Can anyone tell me why this is so? Have I missed any steps in between? I was just extracting a ROM and rebuilding it, without doing anything in the edit tab.
Also, can anyone tell me how to remove preinstalled apps, games(like office) from the ROM, and how to install a new app?

Thanx for replying... Actually, I was trying to tweak up Mr. Fireburned's custom ROM. So, I had to extract the ROM from his .nbh file.
Anyways, I had some other questions...
1:How do I go about deleting an application from the ROM?
2:After running the ervius tool for extracting and creating the packages, I find that there is a folder on my desktop with some files in it. what am I supposed to do with these?
3: After downloading the Rose ROM you mentioned, where am i supposed to place the files for further editing?
4: Well, i am a newbie in ROM cooking, If possible, it would be a great help and boost if you had a kind of walkthrough as to how do I go about using the software. Well, this is not necessary I suppose, but it would be a great help for noobs like me.
Well... heres an update on the G'reloc thing... I copied all the files in the temp folder to the parent directory(c:\VOX kitchen) and renamed the 'dump' folder as 'SYS'. Greloc started.
On pressing "do it"
It gave the following
I/O error 105
and got stuck there.
Another error: When i click on the buildOS tab, vista shows the error buildOS.exe has stopped working.
Is there any workaround to this?
Cheers,
Akshay
