I have started the task of getting my head round UL and how it works. There is quite a bit to learn and a whole shedload of threads dotted about all over the place with useful information.

Some of these threads are about UL, others about icons and/or their use in UL. The purpose of this thread is to act as a reference point for all of the threads on UL related matters.

The intent is to save time trawling through the site by having all the links in one place.

Feel free to add to this; however it would be useful if you could ensure that you don't duplicate a thread already mentioned here.

Word to the wise, don't change the background color of UL unless you have your device backed up or better yet, you can boot in safe mode and disable UL from your today screen. I changed the background color and it locked up my device. I did 3 soft resets and I couldn't boot in normal mode. Luckily I had a safe mode tool installed so I booted into safe mode and disabled UL.

However, this is one of the coolest launchers I have ever used. It's a little rough around the edges. Hopefully it will get better as time goes on. I just wish their was an English forum to post bugs and requests to for the author of this cool software.

I'm under the impression that it may be rom related sometimes, and not UL. On some roms, I can use youtubeplay, and others I can't or it'll install, but wont open. On some cooked roms, I can use igo, Tom Tom, and others I can't. You'd believe that if you have jbed installed, you'd be able to use Opera Mini. As it is well documented on this site, many are having issues with it and having to tweak this and that create/install mortscripts, blah blah, blah. Sometimes it not the app, it's the cooked rom. Some have had to remove and reinstall UL because they were having today plugin issues. Just my two cents. My point is that the user maybe doing all the right things, but still encounter minor glitches that others may not experience.

In my thread, I tried creating UL manual (if you will, lol) because it's so customizable and almost impossible to write everything. So I just hit the finer points.
Creating this thread is indeed a smart move and good idea. I can see this thread (or Sticky) becoming a Wiki for UL. I think this is one of the many applications that needs a Wiki.

A thought - people should post what themes / skins they are using with either (or both) UL and rltoday, they work really well together.

I have a quick question too - how to i change the font for UL?

I have copied the font to the \windows\fonts directory, and then in the options changed the font name (under the font tab - typeface name)

but doesnt make any difference.

You'll need to change the entire system's font, there are cab installers in the forum, I use Segoe.

I love UltimateLauncher for all of it's customization options, but I already bought SPB Pocket Plus 4 and I'm not sure how to integrate UltimateLauncher with Pocket Plus. Seems like over-kill. If anyone is running both together, I would love to see a screen shot as well, or at least an explanation of how both complement each other.

I don't think it's overkill at all. I have seen some people's setups that have UltimateLaunch running in full screen "virtual page" mode, with Pocket Plus running on one page, and Weather Panel or SBSH Pocket Weather running on another, and Today Agenda on a third.

UL is one of the best mobile purchases I've made.

I'm all in favour of screen shots. I think wat would be even more useful is if those screenshots are accompanied by a detailed description of how the icons/screenshot pages were put together.

One of UL's greatest strengths is its flexibility and versatility. Its also one of its weaknesses, given that there is precious little documentation around to point one in the right direction.

I have put my use of UL on hold for now. I have been using SPB Pocket Plus for ages and the only reason why I decided to adopt UL is because of PP's restriction of only having 6 tabs available at any time.

Thats a major negative for me; however I can setup PP in a couple of seconds and be on my way, which is not the case with UL, in my experience.

As I said in another post I am really looking forward to the next release of UL which I believe will be more "user friendly" than version 1. Great tool though.

PS re your comment on this thread going quiet; the intention was that this thread would act as a road map and quick guide to all the other threads that are around on UL. I was finding it a real pain hopping all over the place searching for UL related threads and keeping track of them, hence this guide thread. The individual threads will have more activity within them.

No reason why this thread can't kick off with a life of its own (screenshots and details of how they were put together will do exactly that); however I thought I would explain the original rationale for this thread being in existence.

Ok, sounds good, in the mean time I will post what I need, hopefully it will be answered and I can add it. I will be creating it through OneNote and exporting as PDF.

So far I have no clue on:

1. On the display tab, if using a selected set of application shortcuts, there is an option to "Maximize Items" under display, haven't noticed a difference.

My quest started with a cube from dutty v4 RTM. The eye candy was impressive but seemed limited. I stumbled across UL while learning about Slither2006's cube in C++. I started messing with it and tried to set it up like the cube. Then I realized that you can have plugins inside! I finally have my UL setup just the way I want.

I have the time showing in the top bar next to the task manager by using kaiser tweak instead of battery bars.

I have BatteryStatus Today-Plugin (Ver. 0.05.104 Build 0289) as my first item on the today screen with "show more indicators" checked. I like to see the phone temperature and battery discharge all the time.

My 1st UL tab is the HTC Home plugin. The learning curve on this is that if you want to use HHC, make sure you go to start>settings>today>items and make sure you deselect UL and check HTC Home. Then use HHC to make your changes. After the changes are made then go back and desect HTC Home and reselect UL. I got the icons from Vamarris home icon set he made for Dutty. I learned over at PPCGeeks from eehrhard that you can set the header height to 0 which hides the tabbed header (the little icons at the top or bottom to show which tab you are on). Doing this allowed me to open up UL to even more screen real estate. I set UL to a fixed plugin-height to 234 pixel (this setting is under display). I got this by increasing it until I got the scroll bar on the right and then I just kept making the pixel smaller by 1 until it disappeared. Since HTC Home is the biggest plug-in I use setting UL's height to it will be big enough for all my UL tabs.

My 2nd UL tab is a shortcuts & sytemstate tab. I use this tab as my multimedia and fav application tab. I use program-icon with text for *.exe or *.lnk that I like the associated icon. If I do not like the icon then I use the icons from bluemetalaxe (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=378260) as a XP-Icon(32 bit) with text. I was able to squeeze in 16 icons that are 32x32. Setting up the icons is very simple. Under the tab you want just select new and pick either XP-Icon (if you have a icon you want associated with the app) or Program-Icon (if you want to use the icon that comes with the app). I like using the "with text" feature, just make sure that if you use this you have to have text entered or UL will spit out a error.

My 3rd UL tab is the same as the 2nd but I use it more for my config apps and such. The setup is the same. I only used 12 for this tab as I do not see a need for more but I still have space for 4 more if I need in the future.

My 4th UL tab is a " Combination of tabs*". On top I have Windows Live Plugin for my IM. Below that I have Face Contact plugin from www.cnetx.com with "disable gestures" checked. This allows the gesture feature of Face Contact to work without moving UL to the next tab as long as I am gesturing in the Face Contact area. I moved this plugin's margin under the "Tab" setting to "Margin top/bottom" to 30 pixel to set the right height I like.

My 5th UL tab is a "Today-Plugin" using the TodayAgenda v1.1 I got from http://pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php. It is a integrated meeting, agenda and task organizer. I have this plugin "Activate plugin on startup" checked so that it does not need to load everytime I use it, all it has to do is just refresh the data.

I have the slide animation to cube and I do not use the click animation as I got rid of the header. Under the "Behavior" tab of UL Config I have the gesture control set to logical like the cubes I was used to. The first tab is set to open on startup. I have not set up to use the extra gesture control as I do not see a necessity but when I played around with it it worked great.

Hopefully this long post (sorry about that) helps someone learning how to set up UL. I love it and after you set yours up you will never go back...

Don't believe so, don't really use Audio Mgr ever, but it's a stand alone plugin, it should work.

I have been trying UltimateLaunch inside of Pocket Plus 4.0 for the last week.

Here's my set up, I created a tab in Pocket+ and installed the UL plugin inside of it. I then created two tabs in UL. One for TodayAgenda and the other for Birthdays. I tried this arrangement to save memory and for the cool "cube" action of UL. I thought that UL+TodayAgenda+Birthdays would be smaller than SPB Diary with two tabs [Calendar and Special Events]. In the end, it wasn't that big of a difference. UL+TA+B was smaller but it was a problem to manager.

First, TodayAgenda inside of UL inside of Pocket+ caused the device to hang for about 7 minutes after a reboot. TOTALLY unacceptable! Finally, when the device freed up and I went into the tab with TodayAgenda, the calendar still wasn't loaded and I would have to wait another 30 seconds while it refreshed. I tried playing with different settings, but I could never resolve it the time for the reboot or to have the tab ready to go when I first opened it. I know it was TodayAgenda that caused the system hang because I replaced it for a short time with Calendar+ and the system didn't hang. My reboots were down to 3 minutes total. Some of that time can be attributed to Pocket+. While Calendar+ cured my reboot time issue, it just didn't have the features that I wanted. I also tried the stock Calendar plugin and ThumbCal, but I didn't like either one. In the end, because TodayAgenda doesn't play well inside of UL inside of Pocket Plus, this was a deal killer for me.

My second problem was another freeware app called Birthdays. It looks cool, tons of features and even worked inside of UL inside of Pocket Plus, but it too had a loading issue. Even though I checked the box in UL to force the plugin to be activated at startup and made sure the save memory box was unchecked, Birthdays would not display any dates unless I went to the tab and clicked on the screen. Then after about 45 seconds it would finish refreshing and display dates. Another time killer. Also, on rare occasions, Birthdays would just blow out of the UL tab. Then I would rotate the cube a few times [Birthdays to TodayAgenda to Birthdays to etc, etc, etc...] and then after 40 seconds, Birthdays would reappear. Very strange.

Now my problems might have something to do with the plugins not being totally WM6 compatible or totally efficient, but since I checked the box that they should activate after start up and they didn't display data right away [not refreshed], I think UL must take some of the blame.

I love UL and the animations are the coolest, but if I can't get the plugins to auto-load and be ready for me when I go to the tab, it's a costly time waster.

In the end, I settled on SPB Diary inside of the tab where UL and my two today plugins [TodayAgenda and Birthdays] once lived. :(

yes, the standard calender doesn't work with UL! Use Calendar + or todayAgenda

thanks for the post. but, i already have a shortcut that works going to opera mini. but, now i want a shortcut that launces opera mini and goes straight to a predefined web page. in my case espn. i figure its possible as there is a section to set the parameter in ultimate launch. thanks again though.

There's a misunderstanding. I have the Activation Code but would like to include it in my User Customization script as I have done with some other applications. To do this I need to find out where it is stored within the setup for Ultimate Launch. I have looked in the .ini file, for a .dat file and the registry but so far no joy. :mad: Any ideas?

Not quite sure that would work. With using the default browser option, any link would be opened thru mini, like in an email. Don't think it would work, especially if you pue PIE in the .exe command.

yeah, i already tried the mortscript command to use opera as the default browser. but, you're correct, that only works when launching from a link. i tried just linking to my opera mini shortcut and inputting the web address but still didnt work. it just launched opera mini. works fine with ie which is cool as these are pages that i really need to view the graphical content. just get to them quick for an update. thanks for the help guys

okay, you want a uL-tab with websides that will open with Opera Mini ? I have this see (first picture), so be sure it works :D
On second picure you see that you just have to write in the adress of the webside in Command (not in param like with PIE !)
what you need is mortscript and a mortscript-file to do that. Its from a german developer (Dodo) made in December 07, its called "DK - Opera 4 Addon"

- but i`ve seen now a similar here in a thread.

okay, you want a uL-tab with websides that will open with Opera Mini ? I have this see (first picture), so be sure it works :D
On second picure you see that you just have to write in the adress of the webside in Command (not in param like with PIE !)
what you need is mortscript and a mortscript-file to do that. Its from a german developer (Dodo) made in December 07, its called "DK - Opera 4 Addon"

ok, so tried that and when i put the web address in command it didnt work for me. ul said it couldnt find the address. BUT, i went to one of the links i hadnt changed (so ie was still the ink that it was linked to) and launched it.........POOF it goes to opera mini. so in essence the registry has routed all web access to opera mini even if the shortcut is set to ie in ultimate launch. thanks again for helping me solve this

Hey, there are dozens of posts about this program, and impossible to search for info (even though I've spent a lot of time trying). So, my question may have already been answered before. Anyway, is there any way to put 2 today plugins on the same tab? I don't mean a combined tab, but actualy 2 on the same page. If not, is there any other today plugin that I can use in UL that will show me my tasks, appointments, unread messages and missed calls on the same page/tab?

In a combined Tab you can put 2 or more TodayPlugins! So, a combined Tab is the answer! Don't know why you are searching for another!?

if've got a scrollbar on the right side on all of my virtual desks, even when f
i don't need them, f.e on my RL Tday desk.
when i restart my device the scrollbar disappears as long as i do not open my weather desk.

hey guys any 1 had the problem of a black screen i use wisbar desktop and ul when on full screen every now and then ul blacks out the picture i have as a backdrop in wisbar some times if i reload ini on ul it comes back others times i get nothing. any ideas?

Typically anything over 1.0 will be a better version, depends on the device really, my suggestion would be to always have the most updated. As for the settings, make a copy of the .ini file in your UL folder, and copy it to your desktop. After install of the new version, copy the .ini file into your phone and overwrite the default file. Just be sure to keep all graphics folders in the same location, such as icons. Not sure what version you have, it should work, but being it's a different version, you may have to adjust a few settings.

This may or may not help some people, I've seen a few people having trouble registering UL and had the same problem myself having purchased a code from Handango. It seemed to accept the activation code with no problems but then after a while was still showing the 'Not Registered' text on my tabs.

My problem was the sip I use adds a space after each word automatically so when I set my owner name on my device there was an unintentional space after my surname. The activation code for UL is coded to the owner name and the name I registered with on Handango obviously did not have this extra space in.

Deleted the extra space from my device and now properly registered.

Hope this helps.

Make a shortcut to fexplorer and put the path in the parameter field, for instance: \my documents\ or \storage card\pictures

Had anyone else tried to put the stock Touch HTC Home on a tab and had to hard reset because it wouldn't start on next soft reset? Any fixes to the problem?

I think it has something to do with the fact that HTC Home tries to start up again after soft reset, so it's enabled on both the today screen and under UL. I've looked around... how do you stop the auto-load of HTC Home?

i've been using HTC Home with UL sine the beginning with no problems, but my Htchome.dll isnt cooked in the rom either. I used another one so I could have my weather update through the tmobile 5.99 internet over proxy patch.

You can bring up the Programs window by linking Folderview.exe to an icon in UL, but how do you bring up the Settings window by referring to an exe or dll?
