Hi all !
Did someone find a trick (registry key, ini file or whatever) to change compression rate of the Polaris/Touch Cruise camera ?

There should have something to change to have a better quality with jpeg
photos we take with this device.
Optical Lens looks to be pretty fair with this phone but artefacs (blockiness) on the photos seem to be the result of a too high rated compression ratio.

Anyone found a solution ?

Other than the default menu option Capture Settings > Quality : Super Fine?

Apart from that all I've found in the registry is :

\HKCU\Software\HTC\Camera\5.04\Preferences

Values (REG_BINARY)...

Have fun decoding that! :)

Official HTC Hot fix for Touch Cruise photo quality issue

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hot fix for Touch Cruise photo quality issue

If you zoom in on a captured photo and notice grainy, maze-like patterns within the image itself (this problem is caused by too much sharpness enhancement being applied in bright-light environments), please download and install this hot fix to solve the problem. Sharpness parameters within the photo will then be reduced with only a minimal loss of image sharpness.

Installation instructions

Follow the instructions below to successfully download and install the hot fix on your device:
Make sure you have Microsoft ActiveSync® installed on your Windows XP PC or Windows Mobile Device Center on your Windows Vista® PC. You can download Microsoft ActiveSync from this link or Windows Mobile Device Center from this link.

Connect and synchronize your device with your PC via Microsoft ActiveSync® or Windows Mobile Device Center using a USB cable.
To download the hot fix, select the check box at the bottom of the screen, select the hot fix and your desired FTP site, and then click the Download button.

Copy the hot fix, which is a cab file, onto your device.
To install the hot fix, tap the cab file on your device and follow the on-screen instructions.

Finally found the fix (thanks Google!)

Here are the results : .CAB file has been installed and device rebooted.

Photos are slightly better with less blockiness artefacts.

Below is a photo I took before and after the HotFix.
