View Full Version : [Release Bigstorage] Just2Clean [60+mb of free storage]
ivanmmj
22nd April 2008, 07:50 PM
The ROM has 63.XXmb FREE storage and 31.XXmb free RAM with SD.
EDIT: Free RAM went down to 29.x with SD with this build... not sure why, yet.
To flash it you MUST have a HardSPL'ed Herald or Wing and a microSD card. Just place the HERAIMG.nbh into the SD card's root directory. Do NOT rename it to anything else. Then hold the camera button down while you turn on the device and then press the volume down slider when it asks you to. Wait until it says it's done. I haven't tried to run any activesync other than to an exchange server so tell me if that isn't working.
http://www.darthnet40.com/xda/ivanmmj/ROMs/
Hosting is graciously provided by moullas.
Here are some screenies.
The today screen.
The ExtROM showing you how it has been shrunk and that the storage was merged into the main storage.
Memory to show how much free memory there is on the ROM.
NOTES
NetCF is NOT installed. You must install it yourself.
There is no calculator. -It is NetCF dependant.
The only thing UPXed are some files in the CommManager. I might UPX some more to gain even more space, but I have to be careful so that I don't break anything.
PLEASE post any bugs you find.
I forgot to mention:
It will show up as CE OS 5.2.19199 (Build 19209.1.0.2)
This is, presumably, because the XIP is from 5.2.19199 and the SYS folder if from 19209.1.0.2. Unless that IS the build for that OS version. I thought it wasn't, though...
EDIT: The zcink edition lacks x-button/taskmanager but adds internet sharing. (As well as a little extra free space.)
EDIT2: Thanks to shep211 for finding this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-267475.html) for people who are having problems formatting this with their SD cards.

Without SD it does gain a little bit of extra memory. Not really much.
EDIT: Updated with Screenshots.

How about removing the HTC x-button, not necessary in a Clean ROM I think.
Ok, ok, I don't like that app anyway, BatteryStatus or pBar are good or better alternatives.
ivanmmj
23rd April 2008, 01:32 AM
I prefer the x button. I'll remove it and I might upload after that. I will not include BatteryStatus or pBar on this release. That will be something you can add yourself in the kitchen.
BTW, I used an older version of Arcsoft in order to save space, but it still works with MMS just fine. Also, it's set to Tmobile's network, I forgot to include the Network Wizard.
Kelvino9
23rd April 2008, 01:44 AM
I agree, BS or pBar should not be preinstalled on a clean ROM.
About NetCF I'm not so sure but I will see how many apps run straight away or not.
Network Wizard might be important for some, i don't need it as I have all my customizations and settings in a CAB file.
UC readiness is obliged, especially for a clean ROM otherwise every hard reset is more than a torture here.

What do you mean? In your own ROM? Just strip the ROM of a LOT of unecessary stuff and flash it, along with a shrunk down ExtROM through an SD card.

Wow Ivan,
Super nice job. When I saw this I about peed my pants. I just had to try it.
Incredible amount of Storage.
Unfortunately without Internet Sharing I'm dead in the water. I had to flash back to another rom. There does not exsist a cab file for Internet Sharing -- at least not one that works.
T-Mobile is my only ISP.
It can do without X-Button also.
I am impressed with what you did though.

Follow the reply I gave you already. Get to know every file in your ROM, what it does and what you need to have. Remove, optimize, etc.
The ExtROM was shrunk using WinImage after I removed all files from it using a ExtROM editor from xda.
I'm not home right now, so I can't give you too many details. (My tools aren't here with me.)

That is amazing Ivan. I absolutely Love this. Internet Sharing works great -- I'm online with is now.
This is truely a micro / superclean rom. I've been waiting for this one for a long long time.
Everything I need I can install to the Storage Card from cab files. That is sooo cool. What's really nice is as apps get updated, you don't need to worry about them being baked into the rom cuz they're not there.

I hold the camera button down while I turn on the device and says reading sd card then it says someting something failed in red but flash's to bootloader to fast to see it all. This all happens with in 2 secs. Any idea on how to fix this?

Yea i cannot get it to install i Hard SPL'd . then formated my memory cards( 512 and 1 gig ) and it says searching then goes into the bootloader ..never ask me about installing it
moullas
24th April 2008, 08:06 AM
Hi there...
Tried installing as well
These are the things i tried:
1)IvanMMJ method:
I copied it to my 2Gb SD card, root folder
Rebooted while pressing the camera button
While starting up, for 1 second it shows a message that said "Searching SD", then went into the bootloader
Update: Also tried formatting the card and having on it just the .nbh file, + my UC cabs and SDConfig.txt *only*, still no dice
2)USPL
Copied it into the RUU folder
Followed all the steps till the RUU flasher came up
Gave a message "Corrupted Image", and then rebooted back to my rom
So... all in all i couldn't get it to flash
As a note, i'm tunning TouchIT 7 by itje, don't know if this has anything to do with it.

However, when use a 1 GB micro non-HC card, it works great!
moullas
24th April 2008, 02:28 PM
so the solution would be to use a non HC card?
I think my 2Gb Sandisk falls into the SDHC category right??

Did you unzip the file and place HERAIMG.nbh into the SD card? Or the ZIP'd file?
Also, your SD card might not be fast enough for the bootloader. There's an article here somewhere about that and about how you can format the card into multiple SMALLER partitions and create a partition small enough so that it can be read super quickly.

Been running all over town today before my trip. This rom works great!
Whatever you took out is stuff I don't need or use.
This rom combined with the new radio is really nice.
yeah go for the 70mb Free -- lets see how small we can go before we have to start adding things back in.
This is by far the fastest rom on the market for the Wing/Herald!

Clean I got Storage 64.57 Program 30.79 Free
I put PBar 1.5 in Windows/Startup -- Turned on my T-Mobile Data connection to always on (Thanks for making the default T-Mobile settings).
Then I put TCPMP Player on the Storage Card with all the pluggins and put all the Stations I like in .pls files in Windows/Start Menu so when I click on them they open in TCPMP Player.
That's all I've done so far. Besides making phone calls - This rom you actually make phone calls, everything is very smooth and fast.

I'm trying to think of what else you could take out to get to 70. Only your all black Today theme is fine but don't know how much taking out the windows default would save.
I can do without the Calendar also - again it probably doesn't take much room though.
Everything else looks like you Need in there. I think its just about the limit stripped down.

Hmm, it seems my card is badly formatted. I will give it another try on monday.
Maybe you could kill PIE and Media Player. Nobody really uses them anyway :)

Have to disagree about PIE, the latest one in Win 6.1 is really usable, for casual browsing it's more than enough.
ivanmmj
25th April 2008, 09:08 PM
I thought about it... but replacing IE with the newest version of opera mini (as 4.1 can actually download files) and getting rid of Media Player, BUT media player is needed to play ringtones (unless I can find which files are responsible for it) and both of them just seem too integrated into windows mobile. I may convert them into files, though, instead of modules and compress them... but I'm not sure if that would have any negative impacts...

Very strange... I've been trying to flash this rom from my sd w/o success. Been trying for days. Tried formatting, partitioning, from touch-it 7.0 (awesome, by the way), then from canonyang hard-spl. Never would do anything except boot normally when holding camera. Decided to start from scratch w/ the T-Mo rom, except when I started the ruu, 3 or 4 steps in, error screen on cpu. Looked at my phone and there's the "update sd?" I've longed for. Not sure what it means, but may help others looking for some solution. If you used canonyang's hard-spl, then by using tmobile's ROM, it gave you an error and but it forced you to go into your bootloader. Holding the camera WHILE you power it on, is supposed to boot into your bootloader.

Yea, shouldn't be a problem. At the moment, I'm working on the kitchen port, though. Once this is released, you can even make a sprashant123 version for yourself, too. But I will try to get some time to upload the Herald edition. :-)
Does this ROM handle MMS text ok?
Yes, I'm a heavy MMS user.
Also, does it have voice command?
No, it's a Clean ROM. It has nothing but the bare necessaries.
How would you turn off applications without the Task manager, X button?
WM6.1 comes with a nice TaskManager. It's in your programs menu and your settings/system menu. This is only if you run the zcink version. If you don't, you WILL HAVE the X-Button/TaskManager.
Also, does this ROM work ok with the Wing's keyboard? Or was it made for the Herald's keyboard? (because i read that the special chars. were a little different)
I release for both devices. You will see I released two ROMs, one with the Wing keyboard driver and one with the Herald keyboard driver. The zcink is only a Wing version, though. I might be the only person who releases for both and not for one or the other.

Can someone post a step by step on how to flash this ROM?
I've flashed Open Touch before using Herald-USPL-Beta3 and it worked.
However, when I use Herald-USPL-Beta3 with this, I get invalid image size.
I've also tried putting this in my microSD card and hold down camera button while turning on the phone, but I also get an invalid certificate error of some sort.
Do I have to put in Hard-SPL on my phone?? In this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332413, there is a big MOD warning:
"MOD WARNING: There are reports of this damaging phones, DO NOT USE until a fix is provided."
EDIT: Found Hard-SPL here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358225
Steps for others peeps that might be in my shoes:
1- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358225 (install Hard-SPL by installing the 3 cab files mentioned, then running the Rom Update Utility)
2- Install this clean ROM on microSD formatted FAT32 into the root folder.
3- hold down the camera button while turning on the Wing.... when prompted, slide the volume bar down.
How do I flash this??

Very fast and sleek... Tons of RAM. I definitely feel my Wing is faster.
Also, thanks for using the splash screens that you did. I can't stand non-OEM looking splash screens!!! The ones in this ROM are perfect.
But......
Where can I find the OEM calculator? (EDIT: found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2157814, needed this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=e3821449-3c6b-42f1-9fd9-0041345b3385&displaylang=en)
Now... now do I get office installed? :) (EDIT: found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=371381_
Anyone know where I can download the default Wing ringtones?

hard spl my phone followed the instructions , but the phone stays in bootloader.
It's been a while since I Hard-SPL'd my phone. "Check if SPL now is 4.70.yang"
If that is what you see on your bootloader screen; SUCCESS! You are ready to flash any ROM.
The process doesn't put a ROM on your phone it just makes it so you CAN put a new ROM on.

I hope you did not have an existing SPL of 1.x but instead one of 4.x. If you read the HardSPL thread, it warns against HardSPL'ing a 1.X device.

I did it like discribed here: [HOWTO] Partition SD card (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=267475).
Mounted the Card with WM5torage, used disc manager and deleted partition.
Right clicked unallocated, chooseed new partition and formatted FAT32 256MB Default Cluster... i think... ;)
Good luck

First off, thanks for such a clean ROM. I've been using it since the beginning of last week with no issues. I have Good Mobile Messaging for work e-mail, and it consumes 20M of memory, so a super clean ROM is what I need.
I was wondering what reg edit is needed to remove the single icon tray at the bottom? It looks like a black mobile phone with a thin red circle around the top half. What is its function?

It's the software that allows you to hold the comm manager button to mute the device. Hold it and unmute the device and you'll see what I mean.

Doing so will disable the ability to mute by holding the comm manager. I'll post the directions on how to do it when I'm near my PC. It's a file you have to create that the system will see and bypass that function with.

It's shouldn't be the ROM. It's what I use and mine is working fine. Make sure your proxy settings are setup correctly if you're using Tzone. If they are, then it might be tmobile.

What happens is that if the card isn't fast enough, the bootloader will not detect the HERAIMG file quickly enough. That's why you should make the partition as small as possible to prevent having to search much. Make sure it's set to FAT32, as well. The only difference between the Herald and Wing versions is the keyboard driver and thus the keyboard layout. The other version has INTERNETSHARING and lacks x-button.

OK everything installed easy as pie ... But then cam the down side. It would not run ... Argghhhh . I installed so many tweaking programs to get it tweaked just to find out that they didnt run because parts were needed from NetCF .. I must be in noob mode today as it was stated in the very begining. LOL
Added hitchhiker for wifi and it kept locking up and freezing device ... Wasnt connecting at first becasue antennas were conflicting but all is good and wifi is now flawless.
Now playing with MMS/SMS network wizard isnt running getting error "Error in the program". MAybe I have a bad version as I never installed it before it was just in my cab collection. Let me do the manual settings.
To check the T-Mobile picture messaging (MMS) settings, follow these steps:
NOTE: The device is configured correctly by default. Perform a master reset to return the device to its original settings without manually changing each of the settings.
1. Check your T-Mobile Internet connection. For instructions, see: How to set up the GPRS data connection to access the T-Mobile Internet – T-Mobile Dash™ WM 5.0 / 6.0.
2. From the Today screen, tap Start .
3. Tap Messaging .
4. Tap Text/Multimedia.
5. Tap Menu, New, MMS.
6. On the new message screen, Tap Menu, Options, MMS Options.
7. Tap the Servers tab.
8. Tap T-Mobile MMS.
9. Verify and correct the following settings:
* The Server Name field shows T-Mobile MMS.
* The Gateway field shows 216.155.165.50.
* The Port number field shows 8080.
* The Server address field shows http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms.
o NOTE: This is not an active link. It is an address used in configuration.
* The Send limit shows 300K.
* The WAP Version box shows WAP 2.0.
10. Tap Done.
11. Scroll to T-Mobile MMS if it is not selected.
12. Tap Set As Default.
13. Tap ok.
* The new message screen appears.
14. Send a message to your own mobile number to test your settings.
Arcsoft MMS 4281installed and now is working properly.Reg-edit worked well with it as well. Now going to upgrade to Alex__Arcsoft_MMS_5.0.31.7 .. Ouch now no MMS only SMS .... Well we see that isnt going to work easy. I know re-install the last version then overlay this version. No good cant get to the settings screen for MMS.
My OZ messenger doesnt connect to the net either ... Hhhmmmmm that needs looking into so I can use it ... Have that problem on a few newer roms so I need to locate the exact fix for that. And anybody with any ideas on it let me know. And I doo not have a data plan only unlimited picture and text messaging.
So if you want to complain about a rom remember if you don't speak up and tell the cook what you do and don't like then don't say anything at all. The cooks here are doing this out of appreciation , admiration and love of the art of cooking. If you think it is so easy then put out your own rom.
Now remember I tested this on a t-mobile wing . A lot of these problems may not occur on all phones. So if you have a different phone please post your findings.
************************************************** ******
****************** THE BOTTOM LINE ***********************
************************************************** ******
The rom is impressive with sweet speed, and it is lite as can be ... Just AWESOME !!!
All the buttons work from the comm manager screen which has been flawed in a few roms .
I hope my review of this rom helps many in their questions as I tried to cover as much space as possible. If you feel something is missing please make a note of it so for future note my reviews will be as full as possible. And once again thanks to papa for allowing me to be on the beta testers team . I feel so special now.
And a note to zcink test it to see the internet sharing portion please. Wait wait a sec ... Damm you zcink you tested and didnt have any courtesy to tell me .... not nice at all ... LOL
Well folks I guess this will be my rom testing template . Feel free to use it if you wish. They say copying is the biggest form of flattery.

What should be considered "fast enough"?
And what size should I aim to create?
I've been trying to partition my card within the past several weeks, yet it will never fully partition what I need...normally after creating and mounting one partition, my computer tells me it needs to restart to finish the other jobs, yet never does!
Sorry to be such a bother with this...

Great to hear that it worked with no major bugs! The reason for the MMS version, the dialpad and everything else is space. All items were chosen because they were the smallest in their class. Thanks for reviewing my ROM! Maybe more people will come to see that it doesn't explode on contact. :-p

I am glad you are happy . Thats always good to hear. Well it seems to be a perfect base rom to work from. Like setting up a phone to just do basic tasks and have plenty of memory and speed to play with . Looking forward to your next release.

I formatted it as a fat32.
I dont use windows at all its a waste of time .... Maybe you arent use to linux but you can use any live cd which will run on your machine and use a program called gparted or what ever program for partionediting it come with . o make it easy there is a free cd you can download to do this with . You then use the partion software on any machine that has a bootable rom.

Use WM5torage and lock the SD card as a non-removable device. Then partition only PART of it (about 50mb should be enough for any SD-required ROM.) Make it FAT32. (If you don't set it as a non-removable device, you cannot partition through the disk manager in the administrative tools in the control panel.

Very true .. But 1 note most people dont realize that their memory card is only fat16 . Thats the actual standard people...... So a brand new card never used may not even flash correctly unless re-formatted as fat 32 ... Easieast way is copy whole card to a folder on desktop ... reformat card then copy all back ...
Even horrible windows can do that with no special tools ...

Threaded SMS IS included... I'm not sure why you're not seeing it. I always include what I use heavily and that's one thing I use VERY heavily.
It's great to hear that the ROM is stable and fast. I go for the least amount of bugs possible with the largest amount of free space and the least frills possible. Soon, I'll be releasing a version with even more space and a full ROM, Just2Stuffed. Just2Stuff will hopefully still have a good amount of free space...

Just place the HERAIMG.nbh into the SD card's root directory. Do NOT rename it to anything else. Then hold the camera button down while you turn on the device and then press the volume down slider when it asks you to.
I put the file in the root directory.
I turned the phone off.
Turned it on while holding down camera button.
It just sits at that screen and does nothing... the RGB screen. It says USB at the bottom.

I've been using this ROM for about 3 weeks now.
Recently I've been having issues Active Syncing.
I also get this error:
Synchronization cannot be completed successfully. Reconnect your device and try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft ActiveSync Troubleshooter Help on your desktop computer.
When I click OK on the error,it doesn't recognize my phone anymore when it connects, it'll connect to it as "Guest".
BTW, I'm not changing my Device name or User info at all on my Wing...
The troubleshooter runs some diagnoses tests but finds nothing wrong.
Sometimes, I can fix this by deleting the partnership and remaking it.
Has anyone else come across this problem?

It seems to be Windows not the phone. I uninstalled AS, rebooted, and reinstalled AS. That took care of the problem with my connection.

That is right. You can grab a radio upgrade file that is .nbh, rename it HERAIMG, place it on the root of your SD and flash just like when flashing a new ROM. It only changes the radio. Have fun.

Why, I use it often. And....it taks several kB and without walid SIP method the sistem doesn't boot. Believe me, I tried it :)

Damn that sux that it wouldn't boot if the option was removed. I find it a hinderance more than useful. I hate to touch the screen or pull out the stylus so I will always go with hardware. But if it was removable I would think a little performance gain would show itself. I could be wrong but was just an idea since his Just2Clean is aimed at specifically removing anything that might be considered redundant. Myself I find on screen keyboard to meet that criteria. Thnx for the input on how the rom would fail so I won't get my hopes up or attempt to do it since your experience is my gain in knowledge lol.

The merging actually didn't work as much as I thought it would.... most of the free space comes from the super clean ROM and the fact that it goes below the SPL's size requirements. (Thus the need to flash through SD.)

Anyone else having a hard time getting HTC Home Customizer to work? I've tried installing it a dozen times and when I try to run it, it keeps giving me a error saying The file 'homecust' cannot be opened. This is the only rom I've had this problem with. Also on a side note what is with the dialer after I input 4 numbers the phone vibrates what's with that. I haven't figured out how to stop that if I can any pointers?

1. Hold any number down and it will vibrate. It's a "feature." lol
2. This ROM does not come with NETCF installed. You must install it to use HHC.

It is, but most people don't know which programs have the NETCF dependencies because they are used to having it built into the program. Most people, unless they're linux users, aren't even used to dependencies being an issue at all.

Yeah you called I didn't even think about NETCF I was so used to having it already on a rom I never thought about double checking it. Sorry for for the noob question :D. Well I do have one other noob question with WM 6.1 you get threaded messaging I disabled that no problem in the registry. I have found now that I get no notification whet I get a text message. My main screen lights up if it's dark but I get no sound playing, the phone doesn't vibrate and I don't get the orange led blinking telling me I have a message. I double checked the sounds and notifications section and they are all on. I searched the forums and haven't had any luck as of yet any help would be greatly appreciated, oh and this is a fabulous rom excellent work ivan!
I figured it out I had to add a registry entry to do it if anyone else needs it here is the key and entry:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Setting s\OEM]
"SMSInboxThreadingDisabled"=dword:00000001

It's not a bug, it's that OBEX isn't turned on. To enable it, change the following:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Obex]
"IsEnabled"=dword:00000001
If that IS enabled and you still can't send anything, then color me surprised. ^_^ I'll have to find out why to find a fix for it. :-)

In that case, you might want to make a short cut to poulook into your startup menu. I THINK that may help you out. I didn't tweak anything. That's just a "feature" that I noticed on the newer ROMs that have been released or leaked from HTC. (It's an annoying feature at that... at least make the LED flash...)

I appreciate your responses I really do and unfortunately poutlook was not a solution either. I have no idea what actually what could cause it. I was wondering like with HTC Home and so on there is a section called "Profiles". I would hate to install that program just to use the profiles options but I suspect that the settings that this program edit would affect vibration at least. I do not have an option to have my phone vibrate and ring. Which I do reall having before. I really don't mind the phone not notifying me with audio but I would at least like vibration. If you come up with anything let me know please.

If the messaging program is sitting in the background it should still vibrate/light up/notify you. I'm not sure why it's not doing so. It does on my end. Have you tried the same suite of software with another newer ROM to see if it's an issue with new ROMs in general? If it's mine only, I'll have to do more research.

Is your SD card formatted FAT32? If it is, it could be that you need to partition it. Do a search for partitioning the SD card.
ivanmmj

Exactly what waynehathaway said. The card has to be formatted to FAT32 and if it still doesn't work, it has to be partitioned so that the phone can read the smaller partition quickly enough to detect the ROM.

As stated in the posts above your post, you have to have the card formatted to FAT32 and if it still doesn't work, try to repartition that card.

You have to HardSPL the device.
Skype was not good, breaks, echo... do i need Battery Status?
To run Skype on any ROM, you have to overclock the CPU. Some ROMs come already overclocked. Mine doesn't. Download and install battery status to overclock it.
The Google Maps issue I JUST noticed a few days ago... but I wonder if it's the radio or the ROM itself...

i'm liking this rom, because i love using the standard windows mobile today screen vs spb or any fancy diamond theme, but I have a few questions about this if anyone can help because I'm still quite new to this flashing thing..
1) Is there anyway to download the pocket office suite? I searched, and came up to an official microsoft one but whenever I install it, it gives me an error message saying pocket office cannot be installed on this device.
2) I actually like custom keyboard sliding sounds, but I that keyboard sliding sounds is completely gone from the settings. Is there some sort of cab to install it? I searched again, nothing came out..
3) Every time my phone goes on vibrate, there is a icon on the bottom right, where the tray is, which I guess signals that the phone is on vibrate, but I don't like it because it ruins my today screen, is there a setting to remove that?
Thank you in advance, and I really like this rom Ivan! Really speedy without even overclocking it or anything.

Are you using the PocketPC version of Office?
The sliding sound, I removed because I didn't use or like... it took space, also. You can readd it. I've seen the required cab in the kaiser forum somewhere... Or you can just recook the ROM and add the package from the JustClean kitchen...
As far as the vibrate icon... unfortunately, it's the only way I know of making vibrate work... thus we're stuck with the icon unless someone can direct me to a better way... like a command to control the built in vibrate switch.

HardReset and install one piece at a time. You'll probably notice that the reboot cycle beings after you install AudioManager. It's a bug with it. Remove your memory card while it's booting to bypass this. It's not a bug with my ROM, it's a bug with AudioManager. The version of AudioManager I use in my upcoming JustFlo ROM doesn't have this issue but I'm still not sure if I'm going to include AudioManager at all.

It's not a cab, just a OEM package. I have to find it. (Not working on the phone at the moment.)

i have to say i am converted.
i used itjes roms first when i got to xda. then went over to otp because of the lite editions. became somewhat faithful. been using the ot 7 series this month and went back to the 6 lite, then the 4 lite, looking for less things that i find useless. been seeing ivans roms for a while. followed his class a bit. thhought, what the hey???
super fast!!!:D
thank you!
