oo...
Why update the ROM on your device?
The software upgrade posted below provides several key enhancements for your HTC Touch:
Adds EVDO Rev. A capability for faster download and upload speeds*
Improves Bluetooth performance, fixing connectivity issues with some headsets and other devices.
Adds ability to receive video messages.
* Note: EV-DO Rev. A is network dependent and may not be available in all areas.
Rev. A... Sweet lets get this cracking!
Where's the GPS? :(

Hello, did this work for anyone? When I attempted the upgrade it was actually for the PPC 6800 not the Touch. I think that they just listed the wrong file as when you attempt to run the file it reports an error that states this upgrader will not update my phone model and the 1st page of the upgrade does show the Alltel PPC 6800. Thanks in advance for your reponse:).

The link that I posted is for the Alltel Touch - I have one, I installed the ROM, and it works. In that same folder on that server there is the ROM update for the 6800 for Alltel as well.

I downloaded the one you listed and executed it see the attached error that I receive. I have updated ROMs before so I am not a newbie and I do have the Alltel Touch. So maybe my error is unique but this ROM will not work for the Touch that I have so I will have to check with Alltel tommorrow. I also downloaded the file from HTC website at the location below before I checked here @ XDA and I received the same error.:confused:

So why the size difference between the rom posted on the htc site and the rom posted as the official rom on the utstarcom website?
here's the link -
http://www.utstar.com/pcd/phone_downloads.aspx?bid=87&cid=16&mid=285&carrier=Bell%20Mobility
the one on the htc site is 68.5mb. the one on the utstarcom site is 62.0mb.

The utstarcom link is for a Bell Mobility rom, while the HTC link is for Alltel. The Bell rom does not have Rev.A or gps and would probably explain the difference in file sizes.

Anyone with a non-Alltel touch tried this?
Edit:
This was posted by GnatGoSplat on PPCGeeks:
I doubt GPS is enabled in this ROM.
The Alltel ROM for PPC6800 Titan is NOT GPS enabled. However, the SPL and radio are "GPS-ready".
All that was needed to enable GPS in the Alltel ROM was to add these 3 files from the Sprint GPS ROM:
* GpsDaemonService.Dll
* gpsid_qct.dll
* qccmquery.dll
So if the ROM isn't GPS enabled, but the radio is GPS-ready, adding those 3 files should do the trick to enable GPS.
/end quote
So for those Alltel users trying to get GPS working, try adding those files (don't know where you get them, maybe the Titan GPS-ROM?) and see if that lets you get a GPS signal.

Anyone with a non-Alltel touch tried this?
Let's say, someone just replaced his phone :-(
Don't try this on Sprint 6900

As of yet, no GPS for me. Also, if you are having trouble getting the ROM from HTC via that link, please feel free to PM me and I will try to find a way to get it to you. If anyone has somewhere they could host it that would be appreciated.
I am looking for the 3 files mentioned above to see if they will help [I am going to try to pull them from my friend's Tilt].
According to HTC, the radio update is supposed to turn on GPS, and the guy even laughed at me, saying that I must not be doing it correctly, as it should work fine. Of course, when the call was first answered, the guy said he didn't even know that there was an update out for the Touch.
Here's to the hope of one day having a working phone!

Yes if you could send me the ROM that works for the Alltell Touch I would trully appreciate it as I have tried again to use the one posted here and the one on HTC and both have given me the same error. My email address is ephesians32o-htc@yahoo.com Thanks to everyone for your responses:). Everyone have a wonderfully blessed day :)

qccmquery.dll from my Mogul is attached.
Are you sure this is related to GPS though? I searched the registry for GPS related dlls and I never saw anything linked to this one. It was just a quick search though, not very thorough. Anyway, here is the file if it helps.

Ok, I will have an FTP link for the Alltel ROM from HTC that I loaded into my touch tonight.

So where do I put the dlls? Do I place them in a modded rom, then install? Or can I just put them into my ppc after I updated?
Verstandnis: Are you modding a rom with the gps added?

qccmquery.dll from my Mogul is attached.
Odd that it extracts to 0 bytes. Seems useless. Wonder if it's a placeholder to a real DLL.

I made a cab for the Titan containing all the files. So far nobody has reported any luck with the cab, but here it is if you guys want to play with them:
http://rapidshare.com/files/109911328/HTC_GPS_Enable_for_Titan_3.35.cab
The files are signed with a developer certificate so you will probably need to turn security off before they'll work correctly. I found a file to do that here:

I'm not sure if this is related, but I tried putting all three files in the windows directory and resetting. I used dotfred's task manager to check on the device/service and I found the gps, but everytime I tried to turn it on (start the service) I get an error telling me that there is a file missing. So maybe qccmquery.dll is bad, or maybe there is another file that the vogue needs which the mogul didn't. Either way, looks like I'll be playing the waiting game some more.

Turns out the cab file I made DOES work on the Titan!
The key was to install the developer certs and turn off security.
If you got the files from a source other than my cab, they're probably unsigned so they won't load correctly, but you won't see an error either.

all this talk about qccmquery.dll - gps works without it.
you just need the 2 gps*.dll files for gps to function - found this out on accident
not sure what qccmquery is for
GnatGoSplat
24-04-2008, 06:13 AM
I don't know what qccmquery.dll does either, but GpsDaemonService.Dll calls the CMQuery function in it.

No, the file that I uploaded [which is linked above] is the latest official ROM from HTC - seems no one else has had any luck with getting it so I thought I would share what I got. I am running that ROM, and have no GPS as of yet, so I am working on that right now. There is a radio update included in that file, so hopefully we are close.

I put the cab on and used dot freds task manager to start the devices and service up. So one thing that needs to be done is to have the services start at system start. I'm guessing that can be done with a registry edit or something.
I used GPS Test to test out the gps on com4. GPS Test will not find the GPS unit if you do not turn the service named "GPS Daemon Service" (GPC1:) and the device named "$device\GPD0" (GPD0:)
For me, after the unit is found, it says "GPS Starting up" and the color icon turns from red to yellow. The GPS doesn't get any further than this.
Any tips or ideas? Should I just sit tight for a while?
BTW, thanks to my friends over at ppcgeeks who helped me get this far, and to Gnat for the cab.
Nice progress hgray. Wish I could help you out. I've heard that it took a little while for the titans to locate GPS. How long has it been waiting?
hgray
24-04-2008, 06:58 PM
I'm not sure how long the titan took, but I had a bb pearl for a while. It took a bit of time too, but even in doors it never took this long. I think it would at least acquire a satellite or two, but it doesn't see any.

Per post on ppcgeeks, hgray has the gps working on the Altell vogue:)
GPS definitely works, but right now you have to use dotFreds task manager, or something similar, to load the dlls. My problem was that I didn't enable locations service.
Go to Settings/Personal/Phone/Services/Location/enable.
Get Gnat's cab and run it. From what I can tell, you don't need VIRSER_GPS.dll, so if it doesn't come with it, don't worry about it.
Soft-reset, and load the GPD0 device, and the GPS Daemon Service (GPC1: )
After that it should work fine. Remember, when you soft-reset, you have to reload the device and service before anything will work. If anyone can fix this, please let me know!
I have to go work, but I'll try to get back on tomorrow evening to answer questions.
Also, the below link is to the Titan GPS guide. It may be of help. Supposedly, the same guide was on here, but I can't take the time to find it because I have to leave. Good luck everyone and thanks to everyone on here who helped!
http://forum.smartphoneexperts.com/showthread.php?t=162494
Edit: I haven't tried it without using the QuickGPS program found on the Titan GPS guide. While outside, it took me 30 seconds to find 4 satellites and on Google maps the accuracy was about 3 meters. I'm not sure if QuickGPS is making a difference or not. I just wanted to put that out there. Later.

The Alltel rom works fine with Sprint.
You just want to make sure to reset before customizations run, and will need to install a couple of additional files to enable GPS.

I downloaded the AllTel RUU_TITAN_ALLTEL_WWE_3.35.671.9_RS_TITAN_03.37.20_ Alltel_2.01_AM_PPST_Ship.exe from the HTC site and ran it. I let it run the customization run just to see what all it had. Does not have Windows Mobile 6.1 but has all the AllTel apps they want you to have on it. I then ran DCD 3.0.4 kitchen and cooked a fresh rom with the oem’s I wanted. Everything is working as it should. MMS sends and receives text messages, sends and receives picture messages and email works. GPS works without a problem without any hacking. BT is still acting up. Wireless works great. After I flashed and tried the GPS it connected within 10 seconds, I just tried it again today (flashed yesterday) and we are having storms right now and the GPS lock took about 45 seconds to lock. 10 seconds is great and I can live with 45 seconds. I’m not sure why everyone is having troubles with the rom so I thought I would drop my comments on here. HTC PPC 6800 AllTel phone.

to those of you running the actual alltel rom (included dialer intact), do your data arrows turn light grey when the connection is idle? or does it seem to be the same old touch dialer they were including, with the popup glitch unless showtitlebarclock=2 ?
