Guys/Gals I need some help. I have seen an abundance of questions lately that I know for a fact are in the FAQ wiki. However, over half are not in Q&A format and are quite hard to follow/understand.

I have converted the Flashing section to Q&A format but I need help doing the rest. I work anywhere from 40-60 hrs a week and I really don't have the time to do the entire WIKI by myself. I am not asking for sympathy on my work week or any of that. That's life. Grin and deal with it.:D What I am asking is that If people would just modify 1 or 2 of the links in to Q&A format, it would not take nearly as long.

I am just trying to help and bring down the number of redundant questions. All of the info on how to edit the WIKI are there when you click edit. It's really simple to edit. Just a lot still to do.

Thanks everyone.:)

Here (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=KaiserFAQ) is the link to the FAQ Wiki.

In my opinion, Newbs that ask questions obviously dont take the time to read wiki or search, its much easier to ask a question and say "i searched" than it is to actually search. I have a idea for the newbs if it is a redundant post just ignore it. Like someone told me once "its like comming over to someones house uninvited and not taking your muddy shoes off" its flat out rude.

I appreciate your sentiment but if it was in Q&A format, the redundant questions might slim down. They will never be obliterated but they might be curbed to a minimal. However, I do agree with you that it is easier to ask and say you searched even though we all know they don't. I was just thinking that it might help slim them down somewhat.

No, I understand what you are saying. Trust me I do. Since I created this thread asking for help there has been no less than 6 redundant threads created. So trust me, I understand completely. Guess I'll get back to work editing it. Seems as though it can't be done fast enough.

ok, i added the sim unlocking to the "other" section, dont know where else to put it.

although all the questions have been converted to Q&A form, you can still help, there is a todo list at the top of the FAQ, so please feel free to help with that. if you're afraid that you will mess up in editing the wiki, then just post you suggestions here.

Anyone know how Flar is getting on with the MediaWiki upgrade?

It would make the Wiki much more user friendly place to be.

I help out on GuildWiki (yes I'm a gamer :o) and know my way around the WikiCode and system, so I'm willing to chip in where I can.

I was perusing over the Kaiser FAQ Wiki and I was wondering if we should break out each section as a separate page that. And we could have links from the main FAQ page to the Kaiser FAQ Flashing page, And The Kaiser FAQ Configuration, etc. That would make it less lengthy and maybe easier to navigate. I'm wondering if people are being over whelmed.

What do you guys think? I don't want newbies to say I couldn't find the question on the main page, becasue its on a separate page. However, I don't want them to say they couldn't find it because there are a ton of FAQs.

A single page works well, since the hyperlinks at the top should be enough to help them navigate around.

I know this thread hasn't been replied to in awhile, so I decided to reply to remind people that we always need updating on the wiki...

Yeah I was pondering if that would be a good idea. The only reason I was thinking that is the noobs in dutty's and now Leo's ROM thread are always like. "Its tooo long to read all 40 pages." But its a wiki. It should hold a lot of information.

Who says they need to read the whole wiki? I know I wouldn't. I use it to search for terms when I have a question.

Anyway folks, if you want to help your fellow member, please update the wiki! Don't worry about messing it up, there is a history function which allows anyone to recover against any accident... So if you've found something that helped you immensely, add it to the wiki!!!

This thread has been made the official Kaiser FAQ discussion thread, as listed in the sticky.

If you do not feel comfortable editing the WIKI/FAQ yourself, please post anything you'd like to add to the FAQ here and someone will add it.

Thanks!

After just another "autocompletion to: field... problem" thread, is it possible to make a link in the sticky to the disable XT9 cab?

Just wondering: are the admins really going to make the move to MediaWiki? It would be real nice... (I saw the intention was there in 2006...)

Can we have an improved section on GPS?

Understanding internal/external ports
optimal baud rates
reception (what works, doesn't and etc)
know how to know if GPS is on
relevance of radios to GPS
GPS battery consumption
how the number of satelites affects accuracy (diminishing returns?)
actual accuracy of Kaiser GPS (1m, 5m, 10m?)
hardware spec for aftermarket external GPS antennae (so people don't use wrong size and break it)

It's very easy to nuke your GPS settings. And attempting to trouble-shoot this is a PITA because nearly all useful GPS information is related to TomTom. (Maybe iGO should have a FAQ in the wiki too?)
do all Kaisers use the same GPS/radio chip?
pros/cons of chip(s)
a general break down of how GPS is implemented on the Kaiser would be good.

Is there a GPS guru in the house?

Search terms are good, but if average users (or is that average noobs?) are not able to search the forums effectively, I doubt they'll be much better at searching the wiki.
I searched the Wiki for "kaiser radios" and came up with no result, despite having seen a wiki page full of kaiser radios yesterday. I had to change the term to "kaiser radio" to get a result, this is an interweb where most most people let google do their thinking for them and don't know how to search effectively so I would suggest that better tags are called for if a majority are going to hold with your opinion.

The wiki search engine is newbie unfriendly too. The box for search terms doesn't have its own button. It is a convention of web design (or is it web GUIs?) that there is almost always a "search" or "go" type button beside an entry box, so even I clicked the "Like Pages" button a few times wondering why I was getting unexpected results (when I copy/paste I tend to click buttons, when I type, I use "Enter"), it caused me pause to realise that I could only use the "Enter" button.

A FAQ on creating search terms and what operators and search functionality PhpWiki has would be useful. This could be a separate FAQ/manual that gets generically linked to at the top of other wikis and FAQs.
Perhaps adding a Google search box to the wiki itself would help (not that the average person knows how to use google effectively either).

A good TOC is also useful. I actually scrolled the first page of the Kaiser Wiki a few times and didn't see "radio" at all. It was obvious that Radios didn't have a section on that page so it didn't occur to me to use my browser's search function on the page before I went to the wiki search engine.

In fact, you don't have to change the layout of the wiki, just add a link to a TOC or device/subject specific glossary that links back to the the appropriate place (however doing it this way may cause pains when information is added/moved).

I do think specific subjects should have their own pages. If the specific body text of a subject matter requires scrolling, it deserves its own page/subsection, for ease of consultation.

There is just too much information here, and most of it cannot be accessed rapidly. (A "quick" consultation sucks me in for hours.) Compare your ability to access information on this wiki to wikipedia (the standard to which all information management wikis are compared). Obviously you can't expect a great comparison, but you can see where the bar is.

I would be very curious as well to see how a tag cloud would work out....

I hope the move to MediaWiki will be made. It will still come down to us to update it, but it would certainly helpful to new members. There was a similar discussion some time ago:

Actually, it's been asked in quite a couple of places. I'm just too lazy to link them all :)

It's my understanding that VBulletin 3.7 upgrade presented some challenges that still require fixing and because of that, there have been delays with the MediaWiki upgrade. There is also some long term planning that needs to be done before it gets addressed.

I'm still waiting to hear back from her as well...

I Successfully flashed the HTC WM6.1 WWE ship rom(changed to 32mb pp) with jockyws v3.56 hard spl. I have no freezing issues and it is much faster. I had a lot of trial and error moments but I just searched and searched. I like the Q and A in the wikis it make it easier to find answers faster. I read the Kaiser Wiki, gweni, the rom uprgrading wiki, and lots of others before I figured it out. I hate when people ask redundant questions also, I have been looking fo an answer in a post and see the same question 3 or 4 times because people are to lazy to read. Thanks for everything you guys do. Keep it up.

Dear experts, I was reading Laurentius' v9 ROM thread and came across the thing about flashing stock ROM first before flashing cooked ROM. To be precise, aruppenthal asked the question and zard responded with a test that he did, it was proven (although it was 1 test case, I've heard resounding theme about this) that it does improve the performance.
Tried to search the Kaiser wiki but couldn't find coverage about this issue and I thought it would be great if we had it there, much more importantly why it does matter - since I'm dying to find out why :D

Hi, I followed the links to reply here. I have an idea to [hopefully] cut down on repeat posts.

In the main section of Kaiser, where there are currently 4 headings, why not add a Problems Solved/FAQ/Tutorials link to the wiki so that people who get as far as the Kaiser forum could check there first.

Since a lot of first timers come looking for the more basic tips, they could start there and begin to post requests afterward if there are no solutions found?

Example headings in the FAQ page: Button reassignment, Flashvideo & Youtube, Home Plugin Customizing, KaiserTweaking, GPS issues, Screen Alignment, Volume Issues, yada yada yada.

Just a suggestion,
Johann

So I'm a noob working through the helpful "how to upgrade your ROM" stuff, and I'm noticing a bunch of pages where it looks like the author intended there to be links, but there are no links. What happened?

For example:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=SPL%20Questions%3F

EDIT: And to certify my noobness, after thinking that there were many pages without links, that one I linked above is the only one I can confirm. But my question stands; the original thread for that page is closed, and I can't find the original text from that page in the thread.
