vetvito on PPCGeeks has extracted the new 3.37.20 radio from the latest ALLTEL ROM 3.35.671.9.

I'm on a ferry now and won't be home for a few hours to play...
[edit]
You must use a non-SDHC (ie. 2GB or less) microSD card formatted in FAT32 with a cluster size of 4kb or less to flash the radio ROM Standard SD flashing routine of renaming the RAM TITAIMG.nbh and placing it into the root of the card There will be 5 pauses at ~14 seconds during the flash Using the USB RUU method will lead to a likely lock-up at 9%
For an easy way to revert back, here's a link to the 3.35.04 CDMA radio ROM released by Sprint:

I couldn't wait -- after a very quick test of a phone calle, GPS, and data, all appears to be fine with the new radio. That's on a build of my kitchen based from the Sprint 3.35 ROM which is an identical OS build as the new alltel release.
I flashed via the SDcard method. Just be patient as there will be 5 pauses of around ~14 seconds during the CDMA flash.

did you do the rom upgrade from the exe.? givin from the website?I said how I flashed.
You are confusing the official alltel update .exe (an exectable archive composed of multiple files) with this extraction of the radio from that alltel released ROM.
This radio is simply an .nbh ROM file. If you are unaware of what that is then I strongly urge you to read the XDA-Wiki.

Hey guys,
I had to run the official Alltell release, just because the .nbh file kept getting stuck and restarting itself at 8%.
Not that it's a big deal, but is there a simple way to get the regular Sprint start screens back?
Thanks.

even though i knew it was coming from reading this post, man it always scares me to see a progress bar pause for an excruciating 14 seconds.
anyway, updated and it works fine here on Sprint!

Regarding the radio, here's a stupid question...is it carrier specific?

So -- What does the new radio actually improve?
Will it correct that fact that my GPS will get a fix for 5 minutes after a HARD reset and then not work again for days and days?

probably not - i think the GPSID driver is causing that.
(off topic) if you build without the GPSID package, your GPS wont die. but your battery wont last long either.

Just copy the file to the SD card and flash that way. I didn't have to hard reset or anything after flashing the radio.
Steps are pretty easy and found on the Wiki
Format SD card fat32
Copy nbh file to the card as TITAIMG.nbh
Put the phone in bootloader mode
Follow the directions for the radio
Reset and done.

Reading the Wiki, it said to format the microSD aith an Allocation size of 1024.
Unfortunately I have a 6gb card and could not set the allocation to 1024. so I grabbed my wife's i760 where she has a 128mb card in it which formatted just fine.
I put it in my 6800, started the bootloader, and it flashed succesfully.
It updated my radio to the version, I soft booted, and I did not lose any data on my phone.
are people having success flashing from cards of 6gb which do not have an allocation size of 1024?

I didn't have any issues. I just renamed the file to TITAIMG.nbh and copied it to my SD, did a power/camera soft reset, the bootloader pulled it and I hit power to flash then soft reset and done.
I'm using a 2GB card which was originally formated as FAT32.
Haven't noticed any differences yet, but didn't really expect to right away.

i tried using my 4gb sdhc card, formatting it via the wiki instructs.
I also tried using my 512mb card the same way.
Neither worked.
The 512mb card with the TITAIMG.nbh, i was able to get to the boot rom and it said loading, then it just sat at the tri colored screen with serial at the bottom for 5 min then i gave up. I tried this 5 times before i stopped.
The 4gb card never said loading, it just went to the tri colored screen and it just sat there with serial at the bottom.
I also tried to load it via the exe from active sync.
It seemed to be working fine, it went to the boot loader and then it went from 1% to 9% and then it came up with an error and rebooted.
I tried this 4 times then gave up too.
I am going to try downloading the radio from a different server, just to make sure the download was not corrupt.

I've successfully flashed my XV6800 (VZW) via the microsd method but with a little catch.
My 4gb microsdhc card did not work, even with a fresh format. Just sat at the bootloader.
I had an old 128 mb transflash card I used back in my moto e815, formatted that and put TITAIMG.nbh on that bad boy...worked first time flawless.
Weird how this is happening, especially to those who have successfully flashed before with their higher capacity microsd cards..

Intereting enough.... I did not have to cal VZW after flashing this Radio Rom t reset my AKey.
I totally forgot to check that afterwards, as data worked like a champ, that I didn't even think about checking voice services. I just tried and I am able to send/receive calls without issue.

Thanks Key for the various download locations. Did the SD card method to flash just the radio (SD card method is my preferred method anyway and it is always flawless so i think we really should make a push to make it the standard flash method - activesync basically sucks most of the time).
dcd, I don't think you are experiencing placebo effect. We have been having massive electrical storms over here in MO and very low and thick cloud cover. Yesterday in my concrete bunker of an office I couldn't get a fix with radio 3.35 even standing right in front of a window. I loaded 3.37 straight after key put the
http://www.mediafire.com/?xu4ezovqegr post up and within a few second of rebooting I had 6 satellites locked - ten feet from the nearest window.
I think the alltel radio really has something going.

Jef, you only need to get a VZW A-Key when changing to a NEW TYPE of radio. Going from a non-gps radio to a gps one will mean you need to re-authorize, but going from 3.35 to 3.37 is not a major upgrade. I guess its like a windows service pack - they give it for free but a major upgrade they will sting you for it.

gc I have seen this before . It definitely needs to be FAT32 or it wont work at the bootloader even though other format types are ok on the SD card once the device has booted to windows. The cluster size is important too. You might want to check your settings when you format the card. I found that the default ones offered by windows were wrong so I had to change them.
I formatted my SDHC card months ago and just keep using it every time I flash. It still has all my other junk on it. I only change the TITAIMG.nbh in the root of it whenever I want to flash a now rom.

Yeah after it bombed out, I tried to format it again...this time making sure it was FAT32 with 1024 cluster...still no dice.
It's all good though cuz like I said I still have my old 128 mb one that worked fine the first time, and has enough space to hold an average sized ROM.

Well I have egg on my face. I bought what I thought was a SDHC card but it appears that it is only SD. If that is the case it would explain why I can flash the rom from it.
So that gets us back to a more important question. Can we flash from an SDHC card? maybe Keystone can shed light on this. Key, you are the SD evangelist. Do you know if its possible?

Key, you are the SD evangelist. Do you know if its possible?I've never tried... I'd always been to lazy to backup my regular 8GB card, format it, and then re-copy the files over..
I just keep a old 2GB card about for flashing purposes. I've formatted that card with Vista's built in GUI at a cluster size of 4kb.
.....but....I'm willing to experiment right now -- to settle this once and for all.. ;)
Keystone
24-04-2008, 06:33 PM
No luck with my 8GB SDHC.. I could not format it with 4kb cluster size and for flashing the phone wouldn't recognise it at a 32kb cluster size. All was fine when I placed the 2GB card at 4kb back in.
So -- to flash we apparently need a non SDHC card that can be formatted at FAT32 up to at least a 4kb cluster size.

4) Volume label - which is blank

Only one...and it must be named TITAIMG.nbh

I've got an xv6800 on Verizon, but, like DCD, flashed the new Alltel Rom to get the new 3.37.20 radio. I then flashed DCD 3.0.4 rom.
However, my boot screen comes up with the HTC logo, then the Alltel logo. Bah! Any way to reflash and keep 3.37.20 radio, AND have DCD 3.0.4 rom?
(I did not let Alltel Rom's customizations run or anything like that...)

you replace the /x: with the drive letter. leave /x -- it tells the computer to dismount the volume first for total access and /u makes the format unconditional (highly recommended)

i think you can just drop it into any empty ruu and flash just like a rom.

this can take some time to figure out, but it's worth it -- it's deff. the best way to flash. i can understand trying to download it again. there's a chance you got a corrupt file, but the last time that happened to me it got partway through the flash until the phone realized it was reading dead data and hung up on me.

if you still can't figure it out, i atttached a blank RUU. extract it to a new folder, and drop your .nbh file in there (sometimes it has to be named RUU_Signed.nbh), and run ROMUpdateUtility.exe

I had no issues flashing this thing with a 1gb card.
Only thing I noticed so far is it roams a lot easier. It doesn't hang on to a crappy signal it can't use.
The second issue is I noticed it won't send text all the time. It causes the text message to not pop up in the threaded history even though it sent. Usually when I send a text I can watch it go from EV to 1X then back to EV. It just stays at EV and I poof my message is gone. Rebooting helps sometimes.
I'm going back to the Sprint radio as soon as I can since I'll have to dump everything.

This is really hard to say. If you r not boring, here is the story:
3 times format SD card, yes, use FAT32/1024.
File name? Tried TITAIMG.nbh, TITAIMG.NBH, finally, titaimg.nbh.
I actually read the other post about SD flashing using another model, in that post, it mentioned: hold POWER button, then press RESET. When I did this, I realized that it is the same as RESET, because I saw the startup screen with splash (sorry, not flash) logo.
Then I second guess I did it wrong, so I press RESET button again, then POWER+CAMERA+RESET. That's where I saw the different grey screen other than RGB screen.
Good luck.

I'm going back to the Sprint radio as soon as I can since I'll have to dump everything. There is an already extracted file floating around of the 3.35.04 radio.. When we were first playing around with it very few of us were flashing via the sdcard method and the links to it tended to be pulled after compliaints of it freezing at 9% while flashing via the USB routine -- the same as this one does. I must of been one of the very few to have flashed that one also via the SD card method.
A search should hopefully turn the file up so that you don't have to flash your OS.
[edit]
No search necessary -- I still have the 3.35.04 CDMA radio ROM:

This radio sucks.
It made my bluetooth headset stop answering calls correctly.Between the Sprint release, the Alltel ROM included different bluetooth drivers that were packaged with this radio.
Though, I'm using this 3.37.20 radio on a build from a previous release (1.3.0) of my kitchen (with the Sprint driver set) and I have yet to notice any anomalies.

Okay- this works! To use an RUU with the radio, first go back to Olipro 1.20 unlocker. Then run an RUU with the radio nbh placed inside. Them return to the 2.40 of Olipro. So for those having issues flashing from the SD card, this is a solution.
One caution-- this WILL hard reset your device, so backup first. Of course, I'm an idiot, and not thinking that the radio alone would cause a hard reset, I did not backup. Oh well... on to reload and testing.

Well, for the sake of humanity, I feel like I should share my experience trying to flash this new radio. I have an xv6800 (vzw) and am running dcd's 3.0.4. I only have a 6gb card, from reading others comments I decided that I should not bother with it, and just use the method quoted above. I backed up with sprite, loaded olipro 1.20 (from 2.40), flashed the radio with the RUU, and all looked normal during the flash. It hard reset my device (which I expected), but what happened next I was not expecting at all. I was given the old "tap the crosshairs" calibration screen and while taking my time tapping them, the device spontaneously reset itself (soft)! I thought it was strange, but hoped it was just a fluke and that nothing was wrong. Splash screen shows that the radio updated (R:3.37) and it gave me the calibration screen again. I tapped the crosshairs (faster this time) and was able to get through the calibration quicker only for it to reset on me again shortly thereafter. Since I made it through the calibration screen, it didn't come up this time after the reset, but I still only had about 15-20 seconds until the device reset itself again. No matter what I tried, about 15 seconds after I got to the today screen the phone reset!
CRAP
I was able to tap quickly enough to restore my sprite backup (which I thought was odd, b/c when the phone was working at restoring my backup the phone went significantly longer w/o reseting - like a couple minutes). It restored my old settings, but still after it was all setup it soft reset itself! I didn't think to hard reset at this point, and wish I would have, but I ended up having to flash back to the stock rom/radio for verizon (I was now stuck with olipro 1.20 that wouldn't update to 2.40 when I tried) so that I could start the whole thing over again from scratch, that is, get back to 2.40 to load the sprint rom, to load dcd's once again. My phone is back to where it started before all of these shenanigans, but needless to say, I about pissed myself when I couldn't figure out what to do (i forgot to mention I also got stuck in olipro 1.20 bootloader once I started it with the power camera reset combo... not even the exitbootloader prog could get me out... only flashing the orig. vzw rom/radio was able to get me back on track again). -SO- my question for all of the geniuses out there is what the hell happened!? Is it the xv6800 and the radio not getting along (this is my suspicion, hence the spontaneous resets as if the phone couldn't handle it when it tried to use it to get a signal)? Did I do something wrong? I won't be trying again for a while, at least until someone with verizon can verify that it worked for them with the RUU method. Anyway, let me know what you guys think, and sorry for the small novel.

The error you made was not to flash back to Olipro 2.40 right away, before you started setting up the device. If you would have plugged back into the usb to your desktop it would have stopped the resetting loop. On the exit bootloader problem, I'm sure you didn't disable usb connections in activesync as the on screen instructions explain.
How do I know this? Because the same thing happened to me when I first flashed the 3.35 radio. You can check my posts in that thread. So all I can say is try it again, and follow the directions for these things to the letter. It worked for me, and there was another post that verified it.
BTW, I'm having no issues with phone, text, internet, gps, wireless, or bluetooth. In fact, the occasional bluetooth disconnects that crop up seem, for the time being, to be gone.

Hi GUYS
I have a really old Radio Version (3.27.00) & ROM (dcd 2.1.0), and I wanted to upgrade to the new 3.37.20 Radio first, then upgrade the DCD Rom. Can I still upgrade using the SD card method?
I have only flashed my phone once, and the last time I did it was Christmas... so everything's still pretty new to me. I was reading some post about some ppl having their phone bricked when flashing the 3.35.00 Radio, or the Radio cannot be reversed or something.
Any help from you guys would be much appreciated!

Yeah, I posted about this too. I'm on VZW, so I flashed the Alltel Rom and then upgraded to DCD 3.0.4. I've got the new radio, and the Alltel Boot screen :(
Another question: My GPS has not worked well ever since DCD 3.X (from 2.X). Could that be b/c I upgraded the radio via the new Sprint Rom and Alltel Rom without re-locking (used SPL 2.40-Olipro both times)?
And by GPS not working, I mean I see 1-2 satellites, but with low signal and can't get a lock with Google Maps, GPS Viewer, or TomTom6.

Sounds like you let the Alltel customizations run. If you flash back to VZW stock ROM and reload without letting the customizations run you should be fine.
I already had DCD 3.0.4 on my XV6800 when I put the alltel radio on my device. Been running good ever since. I would suggest just putting the radio on the device instead of the whole Alltel ROM.

Thanks for the reply. I reset the device just as it restarted when I saw the Alltel splash screen. So, I don't think the customizations ran, but I'm not sure when, exactly, they run.
Any idea where to get the stock VZW Rom? Also, will that reset my radio back? Do I need to then re-flash with Alltel?
Thanks.

There is a thread over at PPCGeeks on how to revert back to stock. Here is the link.

After you go back to the stock ROM I would update to DCD 3.0.4 and update the radio using the SD card method. That is what worked for me.

I put the phone into boot loader mode before it reset. After I loaded a rom that was for verizon I was the Alltel splash. I doubt it's because the customization ran because I didn't even let it boot. I bet there is a splash that was overwritten and it's a matter of finding it and replacing it.

I was able to fix the screens by cooking a rom in ppcgeeks kitchen. I used a dcd thing that someone packaged so i could cook his rom in their kitchen..

Since flashing different roms leads to different splash screens, can anyone tell me know to add a splash screen to DCD's 3.0.4 kitchen? Seems like that would be the easiest way to work around this (and future) issues. Or, if I knew where the splash screen image is stored, I could make a new one and edit it.
Thanks.

I installed the new radio last week and today my phone is doing the same not working with bluetooth that has been described in this thread.
Between the Sprint release, the Alltel ROM included different bluetooth drivers that were packaged with this radio.
Though, I'm using this 3.37.20 radio on a build from a previous release (1.3.0) of my kitchen (with the Sprint driver set) and I have yet to notice any anomalies.
I am new to this. I am not sure I would be capable of doing what you did. At least not yet. I have been amazed at what I have been able to do. I have only had this phone (only had a regular cell & Ipac in the past) for about 5 weeks.

I just read this whole thread and before I install this new radio let me see if I've got this straight....
I currently am running No2Chems ROM as per my signature with the latest Sprint radio.
To upgrade to this new Alltel radio I need to get Olipro 1.20 onto my device, then I can flash the entire Alltel image, ROM, radio, & all. After that I put Olipro 2.40 back on and then I can flash the No2Chem ROM back and run all of the Sprint customizations and I'm good right?
I'm looking at doing it this way because flashing the radio via SD is not an option for me.
Thanks!!! Alex

You can just flash the Alltel rom. No need to go back to Olipro 1.20.

Sweet, thanks!
1999 is right, but if you just want to load the radio alone, instead of the whole alltel rom, then you will need to go to 1.20, and after the radio flash finishes, go immediately back to 2.40 before disconnecting the device from usb.

Well I just tried flashing the Alltel ROM and radio and when I do I let the OS boot and softreset before the Alltel customizations run but then when I try and flash any of No2chem's ROM's, I still get the Alltel splash screen and they will never boot past that. If I reflash the Alltel it boots.
I'm reflashing the stock Sprint ROm and radio now trying to get this fixed.
Any ideas?

no problem.
Yeah, that's reported above. That's one reason why I thought its worth the hassle of changing the unlockers. With the radio alone, that won't happen. You can also change the boot screens by using the ppckitchens.org kitchen to build a rom.
Even with those boot screens though, you may be running ok.

I wish. The problem is it wouldn't boot past the splash screen.
I flashed the entire stock Sprint ROM & radio and it worked, then I tried flashing No2Chem's ROM and it hangs at the same place. Now when I tried flashing back, even though I'm in the tri-color bootloader and the devices screen switches from serial to USB, I can't hear the little sound the PC makes when plugging in a USB device and the installer cannot see the device!
Crap, did I brick it?!
did you try the "stuck in bootloader" exe over in the titan upgrade stickies at ppcgeeks? follow those directions carefully.
also: did you try to take the battery out and then hard reset?

29-04-2008, 12:47 AM
Yeah I know about that but I'm not stuck in the bootloader, I'm stuck at the splash screens anytime I flash a custom ROM. It's weird because I can flash the offical Alltel or Sprint ROM & Radio and they boot but if I keep either of those radios and flash a custom ROM, they won't :( All the while I'm using Oilpro 2.40. I'm thinking I may need to relock it with the stock bootloader after flashing the entire stock Sprint package and then unlock it again. Maybe it's a bootloader issue?
Any thoughts?
Dang getting this radio on there is sucking. I guess I might just have to buy a MicroSD reader and do it that way...

Upgraded to this Radio using the SD card method. I have a 2 gig card and it worked fine. Running DCD's 3.0.4 Kitchen and didn't have to reload anything. Everything works great. Don't see a huge difference in the signal strength though. I did see a huge difference in the GPS though. I also see a huge difference in the battery life now as well.
All that and I didn't need to call VZW for anything as well. Got to like that.

The only thing I could think to try is putting it back in bootloader and reloading Olipro 2.40, I've seen a few posts here and there that sometimes it gets screwed. This may be why the stock roms are working, and others are not.

Exactly my thoughts. I have all the stock Sprint ROM and Radio up and running great, I just need to find the correct relocker for the 3.35 series radios and roms. I can't seem to find it. Then after I relock and then unlock it with 2.40 again, I'll give all this another whirl, lol!
EDIT: Reading your post again it seems like I am able to simply reinstall 2.40 from the bootloader mode? What file do I run in the Olipro 2.40 folder to do that? I thought the Titanunlocker.bat only worked from the device beeing booted with the OS?
EDIT 2: Nevermind. I just ran it from the booted Sprint install. Now I've flashed the Alltel ROM and radio and I'm running it again from that booted, them I'm going to try and install the No2Chem ROM to try and keep the 3.37.20 radio from the Alltel flash. I'll report back in a sec...
CRAP! After re-unlocking it from the running Alltel flash and then flashing a No2Chem ROM, it still stays frozen on the Alltel splash screen like the No2Chem ROM didn't even flash even though the ROM installer gaves no errors and all seemed to go normal :(

Yes, and I also held down both shortcut buttons and hit reset to reformat the clear the OS install. I have to admit though that this last time I did not remove the battery. Crap, I totally know I should have. Alright, I'll try it once more! LMAO!
EDIT: JOY!!!

In case this hasn't been posted before - I want to let people know that I tried 2 different micro SD cards. I worked, the other did not. They were both non-SDHC, so I'm not sure why one worked while the other didn't. Both formatted the same way.
The one that didn't work was a Kingston 1 GB micro SD card.
The A Data 2 GB micro SD card worked.

I wasn't able to pick up GPS satellites in my house before the update. Now I can pick up a couple in my cement surrounded basement and can get a good fix upstairs. Before I had to go outside away from the house.

I find that if I use GPS Viewer - it helps to lock that GPS signal quickly. Sometimes, it helps to Open the GPS, wait a few seconds, Close GPS, then Open GPS again. Not exactly sure why toggling the open/close helps, but it does.

I've had bluetooth headset problems using radio 3.37.20 (with 2 different headsets). I could use the BT to make calls, but couldn't use them to receive calls.
I'm about to try radio 3.39.10 and I'm keeping my fingers crossed...
