ah i see, now i understand.:D hey do u knw how to use our Himalayas as modems for our laptop/PC to connect to the web? my friend told me that it was possible using Smart network. He said its kinda like smart bro only dat we dont need to buy their freakingly expensive usb device coz our Himalayas can subtitute for that. Any idea about this?:confused:

yup, the xda can be used as a modem, though i havent tried this, ive done this with my old smartphone 2002 (HTC tanager), if it was possible with that phone, then it is possible with this pocket pc.
but the downside, the connection would only be 33.6 Kbps, since XDA2 can only connect through GPRS (not 3G or newer)

if you buy the smart bro prepaid, it would connect at 3G speeds (384 kbps or higher) if 3G is available for that area or celsite, else it would use GPRS.

both services, your xda2 and smart bro prepaid, are charged with a flat rate of pesos 10 per 30 mins.

im not a SMART salesperson but hey, if the company is watching, i did a sales pitch, my paypal acct is open. hehehe.

i recommend c_shekhars rom, for his experience, he has cooked a lot of wm6 roms, so by statistics, he has encountered a lot of problems and have addressed/solved most of them. im not against all the others out there, they also have their strengths, but in my opinion, for my xda, this is what i use, although im wanting the STK function, we want to have all anyway. hehehe.

If I explain it a little further...
C_Shekher's ROM is fast, Stable & w/ Lots of bug fixes & tweaks for the best performance. Some good softwares are cooked in it. Lots of RAM for good games. So it's the best rom so far.
But,
If you missed the STK so badly since wm2k5 (like me), go for PDAVIET.
I use The SIM menu as a 'poor man's GPS'
With the STK here in Sri Lanka I can,
Get local important numbers (hospitals, police, doctors, etc...)
Find local addresses (hospitals, filling stations
Get local important numbers (hospitals, police, doctors, etc...)
Find local addresses (hospitals, filling stations, police station, etc...)
Local info (weather information,etc... )
Check bank ballece & transfer credits,
E-Wallet service (using mobile as a credit card)
Stock market info
Games

Thanks for this fine version it looked so good that it tempted me at last to upgrade from WM2003! One problem, after the upgrade to WM6.1 my storage memory is about 14mb with only 4mb free is this normal or have i done something wrong?

In future though, be sure to check the Stickies on the page with the list of threads for Himalaya Mobile 6. I say this because this question has been answered many times (enough to make it a sticky!) and because it might save you waiting hours for a response.

I had mentioned in earlier posts that I have not been able to HARD RESET the proper way for WM 6.x (I follow all the detailed instructions for HARD RESET after the new ROM load). Although I was able to HARD RESET properly with WM 5.x, and yes of course all the buttons are working fine and therefore no hardware failure or problem.

It seems other posters also have had this problem, and the only way around it is to reload the original WM 2003 ROM and then reload the desired WM 6.1 ROM afterwards and all works fine.

Although a workaround, but it is really annoying as sometime you need to HARD RESET without needing to waste one hour for this process.

This leads me to another problem I encountered, and I needed to HARD RESET to try to solve it.

Suddenly, I lost radio signal and NO SERVICE appeared. Of course changing the SIM card and the phone proved with problem to be with the ROM (radio 1.17 installed).

Reflashing the ROM all over again (using the above workaround and wasting time) fixed the problem and radio cambe back to life.

Current ROM is 6.1.2a16CS. Same problem also happened with previous ROM 6.1.1b.

Any ideas.

Reg MMS client installation. It is true. But, it is not a big prob. Rather, It is a very very tiny prob.
Opera cannot fit into the ROM. So use the method @shiranmotha has suggested.

What happend to the normal MMS facility which use to be with WM>? why do we use ArcMMS? Is there any other MMS software options we can choose from?

We were expecting Diamond ROM in Himalaya.

You see, the opera is a very heavy S/W (4 to 6 MB). Packing that inside the ROM is not possible.I know How I am managing to pack the utilities into it without sacrificing the major features of the OS. And that is why the main utility like MMS client also is staying outside the ROM.
You can put the cab in \Storage\ExtROM and let it be installed automatically if you want it so much.
You, already know that the space is the major constraint in the Hima which had been making my ROM porting a major challenge.

The diamond ROM is indeed a big hype. It is WM6.1 build 19811 etc. But it has nothing very special (My personal Opinion). The home plugin, touch cube etc are so heavy S/Ws it is in my opinion is not possible to put into the ROM. I always have been harping on one main issue and that is small size of Hima ROMs.
I notice that the Polaris ROMs are as big as 90MB against the 32MB of Hima ROM. And I really envy the cooks of Polaris ROMs because they can pack anything inside the ROM whatever they want, whereas we have to care for every 100KB of ROM space in Hima. what a pity.:(
But, performance wise Hima matches them all..:)

hmm, I like the phone pad (dial pad) of Diamond. Can we get its skin from somewhere, the ROM is quite fast and I don't think we need to change it to Diamond but I do like the colours and skins.

Dont panic. You can make the shortcuts yourself if you know which ones are missing. Simply copy the concerned .exe and do "Paste Shortcut" into \windows\start menu\programs . Simple....

But where the PM backup. in Start setting system , there is Backup pim word w/o icon and not functionning.

What to do with the Task manager, the previous roms have usefull one more than this.

Anyway! I guess, you have not copied the ExtROM on your SD card. Copy that there and you shall see the PIM backup in your settings. Had you followed the installation instructions completely, then perhaps you would have seen the DF's Task manager as well in your program.

Please may I get WM 6.1 ROM image to be installed through Storage card. I have o2 xda2 but its USB/Serial connector is broken. I connect device to pc using bluetooth. Does Update utility work with activesync coneected via bluetooth ?:mad:

Sorry but there is now way to flash WM 5 , WM6 or WM 6.1 except via USB cable ( i my self have one hima with broken connetor )..and No you cant flash Via IRdA or Bluetooth because once you start the RUU ..the device goes into Bootloader mode

i suggest you get your connector replaced ot Replace it with MiniUSB ( there is a guide in Hima WM5 area for this )

And finally I planning to buy a 2gb/wifi sdio card, witch one work with this rom ?

I can't help you with why copy/paste wouldn't work, but...

With the 160 characters changing to 70, are you using an English ROM? The reason it is changing to 70 happens when Windows Mobile is forced to put punctuation in for you using AutoCorrect (no joke).

For instance, if I write "Dont" instead of "Don't" and autocorrect is forced to put the apostrophe in, it will automatically change from a 160 character limit down to 70.
I don't know why that is, nor do I know why it would be doing it the first character you type.

Perhaps your autocorrect.txt document is screwed.
Look for Autocorrect.txt in the \Windows folder, and see if the character you are trying to type is referrenced in there.

Make sure that U R using a internet connection that directly connects. If your service provider uses a proxy server and you are connecting through a proxy port, MSN won't not work.

On the SMS problem, if you are using English only, try after turning this off,
In messaging -> Menu -> Options -> Text messages -> Use Unicode when necessary.

I'm not sure about this Auto Correct thing but you can also try turning that OFF.

Install the Bluetooth FTP client. I also had the same problem till I installed that. i can receive files from another mobile, but not from my PC. Search for the cab. I'm not sure where it is. I made my own cab with the OEM by arther. Now I have cooked it in the rom. But unfortunately I have lost BT serial profile, but I dont use it Much.

I am not sure what you mean by volume increasing as the volume is so high on my device that sometimes it crackels, so I keep it on low. Not sure about your device (might try Trusound application?)

I wanted to find out how can we uninstall MSN Pocket version as there is a new one out which is quite good (The new Live Messenger for Pocket PC).

Morning,

I downloaded the file and installed it, restarted my hima and then ran the program. This fixed my issue of rec and camera buttons.

I am not sure if you have done the above, if not then try it again it will work :D

I had the exact problem however, I fixed the problem by setting up my ISP settings manually.

Whenever I use to send it says "Error Synchronizing" but then I setup my MMS settings manually using the port 9201 and using 193.113.200.195 as Gateway and http://mmsc.mmc.o2.co.uk:8002.

All of the above settings are of O2 in UK.

Thats what I did, reset the device and it started to work.

Ok I hate to say this but I am having the same problem now. I tested Ather's new Diamond Rom and then reflashed to C_Shekar's new ROM again and now I can't use the service either.

I can only start the service manually by going into settings and start service ---apply and it works until I reboot the device.

If I reboot the device the service does not start however, if I start the service and do not reboot it works at the background fine.

I am not sure if its the same situation as yours but now it seems I am on the same boat as you are.

Anyone with a solution to our problems?????!!!

haha! so all you were missing was the reflash! - as I said mine does work however when I reboot the device it stops working.

I guess I should not reboot that much then :D

Hi Shekar,

I was talking about the camera and not MMS there. You have to manually start the service for the camera to get up and running.

With MMS yes, I totally forgot about that, maybe because I thought that is what every one does by default, I guess not always.

Next time I'll remember it :D

Can you provide more detail about what you mean re "it changes"?

You can only have profiles with two pcs at a time by the way, is the work laptop your third? Just checkin'.

What I mean is that at home it connects perfectly but at work it comes up with a message like " there is a problem with activesync" (I am at home so I cannot give the exact words). I have tried removing all profiles on my works machine but no change.
As I use mNotes to sync with my works PC, I have to change the activesync type back to USB not the newer RNDIS using acvtivesync mode and this has worked fine on all my PPC's so far but not with this ROM. If I leave the sync type as RNDIS then the PPC charges up ok but gives the errror reading, If I change to USB then the PPC just locks up (& does not charge) & needs a soft reboot to get going again.

SOrry, first of all, it isn't a full touchflo rom, but touchflo itself does work on Himalaya, such as SLither's Cube which I have running. SPB Shell 2 also uses a touchflo type interface (but not touchflo itself) and that works as well, as I have tested it.

Touchflo as such (which is in HTC new genre devices) does not work on Hima. But, a simulation of that, known as ftouchflo works wonderfully well on Hima. Ftouchflo is already there in this ROM.

don't be afraid - its no virus but a "warning message" - "PAK_Generic" means, that Trendmicro discovered an executable file packer which is not only but sometimes used by malware.

Last week a friend of mine dropped his good old QTEK2020 and broke the power button. Thereafter he could not get past screen calibration. It kept calibrating in circles so he bought himself a Diamond Touch and gave me the 2020 for eventual spare parts use. I took the unit apart and found the power button had come off completely from the motherboard and in addition the switch was damaged beyond repair. I soldered two wires on the two right hand solder pads and brought them out of the unit through the chassis switch hole. Then I recovered a very tiny switch from a broken IXUS camera, connected that to the two wires and low and behold it worked. I got the thing in boot loader and flashed the latest 6.1.2a16cs. (it had the original QTEK ROM from 4 years ago). Everything works perfect. Installed TOMTOM and OZIEXPLORER. Now I have a phone and navigation unit in one.

im having problem flashing my xdaII with OS 2003SE on this upgrade. I always get Connection error saying to check if the cradle and power cable is connected properly to my pc, but after checking it, everything is connected properly even the power cable is also good. it is on bootloader mode (the text "serial" on my xda screen) when i attached it on the cradle that text becomes "USB"... do i miss something?

i've also tried not putting my phone on bootloader mode (i attached the phone on the cradle turned on) and run again the upgrade. the file run good until the message saying "Removing the current software of my phone".. but after a few seconds, it says that there is problem, i need to reset the phone on run again the upgrade. i tried it but still no luck like im on somekind of a loop here..

pls help me.. i also tried the Ather Dark Edition rom but the same problem happen.

I really want to upgrade my phone. And also is xdaII rom also applicable for xdaII mini?

Look for the fix on this thread itself. There would be a cab for this.

But, just wait.. As far as I remember goto settings there you should see camrecserv which is for fixing this problem only... If that is not there then look for the fix cab on this thread..

Hi, I have a broken connector, and I tried this method. Fortunately, I was able to connect through usb, making the electrical contact by myself (took me 15 minutes, it was tricky), and I got to make an sd card backup. I didn't manage to flash a new rom using the sd-card layout scripts from the wiki, but I'm sure it's possible. Anyway, the point is that the bootloader saves a header on the sd card, it's kind of a device-specific random checksum. I heard you can't flash an other device than the one you made the sd-card backup with. That means, if you don't have any backup from your own device, it won't work.

I changed it from German to English
so please tell me if this rom of your is goona work on my PPC

or show me a link to download a suitable one would be great if it's you own cook too because I'm sure it can be upgraded to WM6.1 but i just can't find the suitable rom or how

Sorry bro! this wouldn't work on O2 mini.
But apgrade are available to ROM ver 1.13 and radio 1.13 you can upgrade it to WM2003SE

Just few questions, is the black screen (the one with 'winmo 6.1 mobile' and 'cooked by chandra shekhar' logos that appears after restarting) called the boot screen ? Can i change the appearance of the screen with other pictures ?

Yes! you can change the picture, all you got to do is to get a picture and resize it to 240x320 or 240x240 (use Adobe Photoshop) if you have it.

Then open the windows folder in your phone by

1: Put the phone on the craddle
2: connect usb to laptop/pc
3: click on My computer
4: double click on Mobile
5: Click on Windows folder
6: Look for the file called welcomehead.96.png
7: replace this file with your new png formated 320x240 file.
8:Soft reset your device and your done.

Please note: The image file has to be in PNG format and has to be either 240x240 or 240x320 and has to have the exact same name as "welcomehead.96.png" or else it won't work.

Press & hold cam+rec butons together then click softreset botton with stylus now you'll see ascreen with three options yes & no. Just select 1.No 2.Yes 3.Yes (can be scrol with rec buton & select with cam buton) Now press navigation bottun once & wait....

I want to surf internet with my Qtek 2020 using the UMTS connection of a Nokia 6110 Navigator (through bluetooth).

Bug for Windows Mobile 6:
I'm not able to specify the "modem command" that the ISP need to allow that mobilephone establish the internet connection.
The modem command (to specify on PC in "Modem options | Properties | Advanced", or for Smartphone when I use the Nokia 6110 as modem) is: +cgdcont=1,"IP","internet.wind"
Number to call: *99***1# or simply *99#

As you can see, I cannot specify the "modem command".
For this reason, when the Qtek 2020 establish the bluetooth connection with the Nokia 6110, this last one try to connect to the internet but after 1 sec. it lost the internet connection (because the modem function of the Nokia phone isn't used correctly by the Qtek 2020).

Who have the solution to this problem?

Hi there, ive just installed C_ShekharWM6.1.2aR16.P32 its a brilliant upgrade from windows 3, but i cant seem to find anywhere to compose a MMS message?? if i take a photo the only options i got to send are either bluetooth or email, any help would be appreciated to get this up and running

i think the MMS function is in a separate .cab. Try to find it in the file that you downloaded (the rom).

You might have to provide slightly more information mark125. If you click on "no unread messages" on your Today page, it should take you to a list of your accounts, one of which says "Setup Email". Otherwise, when you open it up, go to Menu>>Options and inside the box there should be a word saying New Account...

On my old version on the program screen there was the "MMS Composer" tab, if i clicked that i can change accounts and make new ones which lets me input, gateway addresses, server names etc passwords like this............

Select “MMS Composer”

Tools, Options, Servers

Server Name: Orange MMS

Server Address: http://mms.orange.co.uk/

some reason i cant do this on the updated version and on the network selection the "Programs that automatically connect to a private network should connect using: MMS Network" thus if i send a mms it should in theory connect using this but i cant

Oh I see... I remember having to do that back when I was with Optus. I can't remember having to do that recently. What version of ArcsoftMMS are you using? I think I used to use 4.2.8.1 and it seemed to work well. Have you tried using the Network Wizard cab? It can automatically set up things like MMS and Internet (if you are just using standard gateways etc). I am not sure if it could set up Orange but might be worth a shot.

I dont think you need to install any additional cab for MMS. It is there already......

You are right. I checked my Kitchen and find that MMS client was not cooked as part of the ROM.

I dont think you need to install any additional cab for MMS. It is there already......

Basically it seems like internet explorer is not recognizing that there is a connection.

When I plug in my wifi card it is connected thru the settings-connections-wifi but when try to access a site thru internet explorer it gives a message that "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap settings." which simply takes me to Connections-My ISP to "add a new modem connection" for a cellular number etc.

I've tried with another browser Skyfire and the message is check flight mode.

In Wireless manager the phone is on (and working) bluetooth I've tried both on and off (bt works with GPS).

I can accecss the net via USB when synced but having the google maps, youtube is all for naught without wifi...

I installed the flight mode cab where the icon appears in the programs folder commnunications with a plane icon that works by turning the phone on & off but this did not fix - Is there any .cab I can install?
