Well people. We've released AP4.0 and everyone is trying it out.

What we want to try next is Android.

Keep your eyes open. We're going to start putting things together for this project soon.

What about the vanilla AP4 that does not require repartitioning?

OFF TOPIC ALERT....OFF TOPIC ALERT!!!! :p

It should not require the new SPL. Final determination will be posted upon release of course.

Should be able to run both on your device but not at the same time.

Guys,

It would be great to have both PK 4.0 and Andriod working at the same time in either a multi-boot scenario, or in a vm / overlay based solution. If we could launch the Andriod solution from miniSD or ext rom, that would be awesome. Especially for the 1.0 versions. Later 2.0 or stronger could completely replace a PK based ROM, if we had all of the tools and applications ported over to support andriod as a daily user / solution.

I know that these thoughts may seem a bit different that what was mentioned in the past, but I think that they would allow for better acceptance and utility until the Andriod solution picks up more steam and acceptance amonst the community...

There are also some WM based applications that I wouldn't want to loose or to have to port over at this time.

Hope this helps,
Bob

There atleast is a definate potential for a bootloader piece like the pc has of lilo or grub for the ppc it will all be determined based on what we can create and develop

linux would be a good idea also

Qtopia is beginning to appear on one or two devices, main problem it appears is secrecy from HTC on some of their hardware from what I understand. But htc are supposed to be involved in android, so it should be a bit easier..

It will be released so WM is preserved and you will be able to boot to Android then go back to WM. Not sure of all the specifics yet as those will be worked out. Great minds think alike.

All we need is a quick change button between Linux and WM (a-la-shift), and we're all set.

You sure that phone is not a cleverly hidden Cylon Bot :)

(It is interesting how it seems to co-exist with WinMo)

Hi

Does any one have an ETA for android on Athena yet

1 month 2 months etc ????

marek101
5th May 2008, 03:39 PM
Vision on Android:

1) Changing the screen resolution without a reboot, or ability to change ALL fonts.
2) Email support right out of the box to store all emails on storage cards
3) Medial player that remembers your last song. A media player that won't take 5 clicks to play anything...
4) Hopefully it will be better then AP4.0

AstainHellbring

I think there is definate possiblities in all 4 or your requests there. It all depends on what software we decide to build into the android built.

As for an eta that is unsure as we have to get everyone together and decide what all the goals and assignments are

Hi

dont mean to be rude but Hells Bells lets a get a cracking

From some of the vids seen of protoypes it seems to have win mo stumped????

If it can co -exist with WM even if it meas a reboot to switch then even better !!!!

AstainHellbring
6th May 2008, 05:18 PM
yes there is definately a great likelyhood that both can cooexist quite well through many various means

Hi

It should not be too difficult (I may be wrong) as it is already running on the tytan (i think) from the video.

I think the difficulty is the drivers !!!

Does anyone know if there is any Linux Port working on the Athena that has support for the keyboard?

mistadman
18th May 2008, 04:59 AM
I have successfully ported the Google Andorid to the HTC Athena. Basically all that was required was merging Android specific patches along with modifying the "Very Simple Frame Buffer" Driver to support Double Buffering and Voila!!!

Hopefully with the help of this group we can:

1.) Add some Ati specific 2D acceleration (Double Buffering, Rotation).
2.) Optimize Power Saving...
3.) Add/repair touch screen driver.
4.) Add/create keyboard driver.
5.) Add sound
6.) Add phone driver support (be able to make a call).
7.) Add Wifi Driver.
8.) Get the camera working maybe?!?!

Thanks to all who helped me! Special thanks goes to CR2!! :-)

You bet!

Download Android for Athena here: http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/65091/Android-Athena-zip.html

Once downloaded, unzip and copy the unzipped files to a SD Card. The root of your SD Card should have these files:

haret.exe
default.txt
zImage
initrd-android

Once you have verified the files listed, insert the SD Card in to your Athena. From there just load up Windows Mobile and browse to your "Storage Card" in "File Explorer". Click on the file called "haret.exe", and once the program has loaded; click run.

Just remember that this is work in progress!

Here is the patch for anyone that is interested in compiling the kernel from scratch. I will try to get the Android-Athena kernel hosted on a public .git (hopefully).

I am looking for someone to help with getting the keyboard working... Also this patch includes the introduction to touch screens support (buggy at best).

This was patched against the Linux 2.4.24 (vanilla). You can download the kernel from:
Here: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/linux-2.6.24.tar.bz2
Or: http://git.linuxtogo.org/?p=groups/mobile-linux/kernel.git;a=snapshot;h=49914084e797530d9baaf51df9 eda77babc98fa8;sf=tgz

I am very new to kernel programming, so patch may be ugly! Hopefully all you smart people can lend a hand ;-)
