HI, I've been reading about the new Alltell update from HTC that was released a few days ago and the forums are buzzing with news of users who have actually gotten GPS to work on their touches.
I've attached here the 3 files needed to run the GPS on our phones but... alas cant tell you HOW to install them or where to install them. I too am looking for advice on how to proceed.
This is what I personally have been waiting for since I purchased my phone 6 months back so if we can get this working on the HTC Touches it would be GREAT.
(I was sick of reading through 30 pages over at PPCgeeks and here to see that no one actually said where to install the files or how to make the GPS antenna work once they are installed)

Well that comment was contructive and... obvious. Thanks!
This threat was more for people being able to just come here and get the directions they need to active the GPS instead of read through like I said 30 some odd pages of information.

Those are not what you need.
1. Unlock with the new unlocker 2.31
2. Run Alltel update
3. Download the zip file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1516102&postcount=3 and extract contents to your device.
4. Execute the 3 files located inside the newly extracted zip in order (they are named 1, 2, and 3).
5. Download the cab file from http://rapidshare.com/files/109911328/HTC_GPS_Enable_for_Titan_3.35.cab, copy to your device and execute.
6. Soft reset
That's it - you're done and GPS works.
Optionally, you may want to download/install QuickGPS, but Google Maps works without it.

Mm.... I just updated using the Alltel ROM, my download speeds are like 1400k and upload is around 120k.. phone seems to be a lot more responsive and battery life is seemingly better... I think I'll wait for an official Alltel GPS update!

Check me if I am wrong, but I think that thread is for the Alltel ROM being released for the Titan / Mogul, not the Touch / Vogue.

Ok, you're wrong.
The Alltel rom has been released for the Vogue/Touch. It has now been successfully installed on Sprint devices as well with the help of the new 2.31 unlocker by cokeman.
And yes, RevA and GPS now both work on the Vogue just like the Titan!

I hate it when that happens!
Oh, wait ... I probably wasn't clear. All I was hoping to do is keep folks from following the link from Draiko. When I click on the "Google is your friend" link, it leads to a forum post in the Titan / Mogul thread over at PPCGeeks.
The first post in that thread, includes a link to a ROM, which when downloaded, has the following name:
RUU_TITAN_ALLTEL_WWE_3.35.671.9_RS_TITAN_03.37.20_ Alltel_2.01_AM_PPST_Ship.exe
So, while Rev.A and GPS are now working for the Touch / Mougl, I am just trying to point out that the thread in the Titan / Mogul forum, which includes a link to the Titan / Mogul ROM, may not be as helpful as Draiko had intended.
Thanks for checking me dew.man.
Best regards,

I have called htc four times seeing as how u sometimes get dif answers from dif reps, and all 4 four told me that the alltel touch did not have the gps HARDWARE in it to even attempt to unlock. They said sprint touch was the only one that had the hardware. 2 reps said alltel requested this just for price. Same thng frm an alltel tech too. The 6800 is the only gps/wifi hardware equipd htc @ alltel? is this true?

NO. They are the exact same hardware except for the casing.

I'm running the CDMA touch from Telus... basically my understanding is its the same thing as any other vogue. That said.. I've been steering clear away from putting any cooked roms or anything on my phone as I dont want to fry it. I thought that maybe all I had to do was bring those 3 files over onto my phone somewhere and then prestro... gps. Right now I connect via bluetooth to a gps receiever and use navigon and tom tom. Has anyone had anyluck using the internal GPS with these programs? I tend to just leave my reciever connected in my truck but for when I am walking around it would definatly be usefull to use the internal antenna.
Thanks!

The Chipset includes the aGPS chip. I think it's actually part of the processor. All the MSM 7500 and 7200 chipsets have the port to add WiFi hardware but it wasn't implemented in any of the Vogues. But all the Vogues, Telus, Sprint, Verizon, and Alltell are the same hardware wise.

You'd need to flash the Alltell rom because it updates your radio... ... ... but hopefully someone will come up with a more graceful option in the future.

Wouldn't it be somehow possible to extract only the radio update from that rom? Like 'un-cook' it heh
Install that, copy gps files, and that would be a quick solution.

well hopefully telus is just going to come out with an update of theire own. i called them yesterday and complained about the disabled gps and they said that an update would be out within the next few months. altho he was refering specifically to theire navigation software working on the vogue i'm hopping this means it will still just turn on the gps so we can use with what we want.....whether we see this update or not is a diff story.

Alright guys here is the best tutorial i have found over at ppcgeeks.com, its very detailed and even helps you if you mess up in the upgrading process.

the only thing to add to it is a reg key that makes the gps lock a lot faster.
HKLM\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS\
set AGPSMode to 4
soft reset

Can you tell me where to find the info on doing this on the 6900. I am a total noob at all of this. And its all a bit confusing. Is there a step by step on this?

Yes--if you run the altell ROM you'll get GPS, Rev.A etc on your verizon phone. Afterwards you have to call verizon customer service to reauthenticate your phone and tweak a couple of applications (MMS) but nothing overly difficult. I successfully did mine...

You can avoid the problems with calling verizon after flashing the radio by simply doing an esn change to another phone while flashing ... then switch back and you don't have to do anything other than *228 option 1 ...
I just did mine ... used the ppcgeeks kitchen ... gps works great ... rev a works great ... all is well ... I'd prefer a dcd rom ... but until he comes out with a gps kitchen ... this will do

I just did the Alltel upgrade to the verizon 6900. It now wakes up with the alltel logo (not necessarily bad) but I cannot get the video pix and flix to work. I cannot send any or receive any. Should I go back and hard reset and allow it to load its add ons?
Also, cannot get the GPS to work at all. Any ideas?

Fuzzy--can you elaborate on that ESN switch? I'm not familiar with that procedure...
jnr1000--You definitely don't want the alltell add-ons to run (it will kill your internet access). Does your pic messaging work? For GPS, try this:
0) Make sure GPS is turned on in your location settings (by default I think its limited to E911 calls). Baud rate is 4800. COM4.
1) Go outside to a CLEAR area (no tall buildings, no trees overhead)
2) Soft Reset
3) Launch Google Maps and click 'Use GPS'
4) Let the phone sit for 10-15 minutes
After you get that FIRST fix, subsequent fixes are usually much easier.

Log into my account at verizonwireless.com ... if you haven't registered yet do that first ... under my phone ... go to activate equipment ... stay on the right side ... activate phone ... put in the new esn ... if you have multiple phone lines like I do select the right line ... put other as a reason ... click submit ... it will tell you it was successful ... do *228 option 1 ... voila done ... repeat with flashed phone after flashing

I had trouble with that rom too ... After doing the alltell radio (resetting prior to customizations) I used the ppcgeeks kitchen with their new gps rom ... works great ... I really like dcd's roms ... but until he comes up with one for the 3.x radios .. guess I'm stuck with ppcgeeks kitchen ... I do like being able to control flash screens and animations on the ppcgeeks kitchen ... the only thing I don't like is the false positives on my virus checking software ... it's been confirmed that they are false positives but ... it's still a little un-nerving
Fuzzy
Edit: Almost forgot ... I put the HTC Quick GPS in the user oem folder and added it to the rom ... I had gps working locked on in less than 2 minutes ... remember when using gps you must select location on under phone settings

I got the word from HTC's support team (Telus has claimed that no update will ever come). The update will NOT have gps, just Rev. a, as well as a few minor tweaks. That said, it might make a good base rom to cook from.
i'am kinda new can some one explain to me if is possible to enable the gps on a htc touch usin gsm card in europe, is there any rom for it?

Well I couldnt help myself, I tried it before anyone gave me any advise, But good news!!!! it kinda works! I downloaded a enable GPS .zip here http://www.smartdevicefreeware.com/how-to-enable-gps-on-the-alltel-htc-ppc6800/ "I actually already had it but it wouldnt work with my old ROM" I followed the dirictions and the GPS went active! iv had it on for about 10 minutes now and its moved 3 times and it gets a little closer to where I actually am every time (its about 10 miles north of me now). I dont know if its always going to be this slow or not,I just plugged it in cause my battery was at 10%,that may have something to do with it. but anyway I hope this information is useful to someone. GPS definatly is possible on an Alltel cdma touch(Vogue), but not till you update your ROM HERE http://www.htc.com/us/FAQ_Detail.aspx?p_id=64&act=sd Let me know how everyone elses luck goes!!!
well it works great now loads up very fast and keeps perfect time while your driving. it will also work with microsofts live search if you set it to look for gps on GPS com4 in livesearch homepage settings. I think i prefer google maps but both work very well.

I was able to download a leaked Sprint ROM with a PPST update.
It is for Vogue, PPST Special, NBH Sprint WWE 3.02.651.2, Radio 435011 3.37.15. From what I understand, it is a test ROM but it worked for me. The only thing I had to do after installing was go into my windows folder and run the PPST.exe file to upgrade the PRI.
GPS is working great.

After upgrading my phone to WM6.1, now everytime I look at my picture folder or use Iguidance, the phone starts to make data connection. Even though I don't have Data plan, Sprint does charge .12 cents/minute. It bugs the hell out of me. Can someone please help me out and tell me how to disable this? Why did it start Data connection? Before upgrade, I used IGuidance without data connection, and it works fine.
Thanks.
I recently installed the 4 step zip file on my Alltel Touch...good news is that it looks like GPS is working in Google Maps. Bad news is I can't connect to wireless internet anymore. Anyone else getting this?
...nevermind...i'm dumb and my phone wasn't activated correctly! GPS works Great!

So I've updated my radio rom to version 3.37.15, updated to WM 6.1 (version 3.02.CHEF) and cannot get GPS to work. Google maps tells me it cannot find a GPS receiver. I have tried the various GPS driver cabs with no luck. Is there something I'm missing here?
I'm using a rom cooked with PPCKitchen.
EDIT: I even had to call Verizon to reactivate my phone. It would allow me to make a data connection but I could not make calls to anywhere except *611 and *228
In order to use the .cab (http://www.smartdevicefreeware.com/how-to-enable-gps-on-the-alltel-htc-ppc6800/) that I used, you need to have the factory ROM installed from your carrier.
