New English rom for Samsung i780:

Instructions:

1. Download the Samaung i600 modem drivers (google it) and INSTALL them.
2. Download the Mirage updater and Extact it:

3. Download the ROM it self and extract it:
http://rapidshare.com/files/110310144/i780MSHC3_UKENG_PDA.rar
4. run the mirage updater.
5. click on PDA and select the rom youve just extracted "i780MSHC3_UKENG_PDA.bin" and press open.
6. Click on DETECT.
7. on the phone:
a. remove the battery (Make sure it's over 50% charged)
b. Insert the Battery
c. click on the Enter Button + Function Button and while pressing them turn the i780 on
d. keep holding until the DETECT Message appears.
8. Connect the i780 to the PC.
9. Update begins,
10. Wait until completed.

In this rom :
1. New mouse driver
2. new samsung today screen (very nice)

I have a slight problem, the phone doesn't seem to want to activate the phone service. It just says No Service. Also the i get a "Unknown SIM status" message come up :confused:

Anyone have any ideas? Its an Orange branded i780.

Where on earth is the function button on the i780? :) Is that the one that activates the camera? And the DETECT message should show up the i780 or on PC? (logically following the steps it should show up on the i780.. but..) Anyone please enlighten me :)

Wow! Updated with no problems, phone works normally. Modem drivers were not needed for the PDA part. And the theme and home screen looks fantastic!! THANK TO ALL THAT MADE THIS POSSIBLE!! :)

One thing I noticed.. when I start a call, "CFC active" shows up in the upper left corner, no idea if it was there before... and no idea what it means ;)

WHY DO I NEED THE MODEM DRIVERS? i didnt need them when i flashed the ROM last time

No joy here... Running on XP SP2. Installed AS 4.5, and modem drivers. Mirage is running in detect mode and then I start the i780 in emergency mode. XP detects the i780 but Mirage does not see it. No messages appear after Calculating done... When I disconnect the Samsung Mirage does give an error. Restarted the i780 and it runs its old OS. Any ideas?

FIX?:
1. Start Mirage
2. Click PDA and choose the BIN file
3. Click DETECT
4. Connect the USB cable
5. Turn on the i780 normally

The i780 will display PDA Image downloading... but it still doesn't work :(

Now enabled "skip checking the Magic Number" and I get a nice progressbar, I will let you know if this works... YES!

The hard reset button combo doesnt work for me.
I feel this rom isnt as stable as the TEST2 ROM (im getting out of memory errors which is very odd).
The Samsung Today screen is very nice (Ilike the white background - reminds me of my treo) but it isnt very configurable (I like elements like BLUETOOTH ON/OFF). Is there a CAB for this?

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Al the released phones are equipped with the "treo like" keyboard.

Ok, I got to load the image and when finished, the phone goes of. I start the phone again and I see the logo of samsung. And it stays there.

On the Today screen, there is a place for the navigation.

So actually there is written: No Navigation is Installed

I installed TOMTOM6 on may device, but there is still written "no navigatin is installed"

Do someone know, how i can make it that there is tomtom known as navigation...

Well, I am back on windows XP.I installed this rom more then 10 times. It installs well and reaches 100%. After that, the phone turns off and does not turn on anymore. If I turn it on, it stays a the first logo.

I finally got it. I first flashed the old rom (test2) and then afterwards I saw it start up, I disconnected the device, started mirage loader, select the bin file, click on detect, restarted my device without pressing on FN+ENTER, plugged the cable as soon as I turn the device on and it downloaded itand now its working.

Anyone knows how to still use the swedish layout on the keyboard on the device after flashing this? With the Tytn II it is possible with a simple reghack but with this I don´t know and I am to scared to try :)

I have tested many tips find on this forum but i'm always in QWERTY.

This rom is very nice: better battery life, working tomtom, contestual menus on the optical mouse, and so on...

But there are some regressions:

Opera 9.50 doesent' works anymore

Phonealarm refuses to install.

And finally the most annoyng: the wrong aiming when the optical mouse is used.

Try to draw something with the note app, and you and you will see that the aim is wrong (very annoyng using tiny links in operamini, like the page selection numbers on the forums like XDA).

Maybe some offset in the registry can fix this, but in the meantime I made an ofsetted cursor to workaround the problem.

Just put it on the windows directory and select the last cursor on the mouse settings app.

No hepler needed with this rom, just put the gps com to com8: and choose com8 from the tomtom configuration.

Does anyone know how to extract the mouse driver from this rom, make a cab file or something and make it usable on other i780 roms?

i ask this because i have a phone with a rom in portuguese with my provider specific setting and tweaks and i dont want to loose this for now, allthouth the new mouse drivers features are very nice so i would love to use it on my rom. If somone knows how to do this it would be amazing

However, I am reaaaalllyy annoyed by the fact that once an EDGE is opened (i.e. to check mail or download GPS data) it's not closed automatically, what a shame! Any program that can handle this 100%? PhoneAlarm sometimes does,but I would like a 100% fix..

The D-PAD is not working great in the sunlight, try to go to a darker place and see if anything is better.

I've had the same problem with the original Finnish firmware as well as flashed English (DXHA1) one. Finger mouse works ok in mouse mode, but not in 4-way mode. Will have to send the phone to service for repair...

Ok this is a problem with the mouse's driver. I' flashed the old italian no-brand rom and now the dpad is ok... So it's not an hardware problem... Sorry for my english and thanks everybody!

No need to press enter and function, just turn the phone off, plug in the cable, click detect and turn your phone on - it will just start flashing the ROM :)

Hmm but is it installed on the device or still using the site? I cant push the button "Try it out" when im on my device. I tried 2 get my Dutch Rom back because this english one doesnt support Windows Live Mail. Everytime I want 2 check my mailbox i have 2 signin on the site.

YEAAH BABY I Installed an earlier English Rom without that special SamsungTodayscreen. Still it aint Dutch, but Oh well im happy though.

For example, I'd love to let my phone check my mail every hour, but once it downloads the mails, the EDGE connection is still active and drains battery :( I miss this feature from Symbian phones... please help

normally the code for France is 40C, so putting e001040c should work. However if this doesn't work, you should change the following key:

I was trying to change the device name and use underscore. Works everywhere else though, so I just wrote the name in Word and copied it.

BUT..... the big issue still remains: There seems to be no way to hard reset the device using key combinations :( Guess I still have to wait for yet another ROM update...

i have managed to get home working with this rom and realvga and french langage addon. I think it most works with other langage and others rom you have to rename two files in path \windows hh_0409_weathercities.xml to hh_040C_weathercities.xml (040C is code of french lang replace it with your lang code)
and the second htc hdlg.exe.0409.mui to htc hdlg.exe.040C.mui
And the last one is in the path /htchome htchomedll.0409.mui rename it with htchomedll.040c.mui
Make a soft reset and now you have a must have plugin working

Please. Could anyone with new English ROM publish SDMemory.DLL, SDBus.dll, zylonite_sdhc.dll and registry entries and values for SDMemory_Class, SDHC_ZYLONITE1, SDBusDriver.

In Russian ROM SD card files structure is lost often after suspend. Directories are shown as empty and files can not be opened. It could be easely fixed by reinserting card but is quiet disturbing. After reinserting card everything runs smoothly until next suspend.

Maybe some offset in the registry can fix this, but in the meantime I made an ofsetted cursor to workaround the problem.

Just put it on the windows directory and select the last cursor on the mouse settings app.

Rename the file you want to replace to .old (or something else), then rename the new file, as the file you want replace.

However on trying to do the exact same thing with my brothers i780 i flashed the pda part no problem, however i just keep getting USB unrecognized error when i plug in the usb for the radio flashing. Could there be a problem with the drivers? I have tried reinstalling but to no avail! Any one got any ideas?

Try a other USB port(s), some ports does'nt work well, I have the same problem on a laptop and a desktop PC, some ports works and some not.
With a Qtek 9100 I had no problems.
Rebooting the i780 or pc wil also help, It look's more like a driver problem.
Maybe it's Vista 32&64 bit's that's wat I am using here.

turn the firewall off before connecting the samsung to the pc
thats how it worked for me !
also sometimes for me i have to reset (with stylus) once the ppc is connected to pc with the mirage running in detect mode.. immeditaley on soft reset the mirage detects it and starts to flash ! this is on XP . on vista i tried but not successful !

Thanks for the answers!! Now it worked :) I try another USB Port and i turn off my Firewall and Mirage found my Samsung.
But i was to fast and so iam not very happy. I would first check the Mirage Program but i dont look to the Point "Start download immedialety" and so the Phone.bin update was starting :(

Now i have Phone Version: i780XIHA7 and old PDA Version i780BHHA5. I hope that was non mistake and i have trouble with me new Samsung, because i have no orig. Update from Phone :(

Click & hold onto the clock and you will get a menu option. From there you can change it to 12H/24H format + the skins as well. Cheers.

I think you're referring to the usual Samsung clock... The one I'm talking about is this one:

When I click and hold over that clock the only option that it gives me is to select the dual clock and nothing else :( and instead of appearing 20H like the pic, it shows 8H :( :(

realvga with 96dpi seems to be causing the video call problem. This I observed after installing this to my newly flashed i780.

Check your radio ROM, If it is still i780DXHA1. It is the problem. The A1 radio ROM has all the problems you said and MSHC3 is only the PDA part. May be you should try the i780DXHC4 image from this forum. I updated mine with this new image which also has a new radio rom and all the problems you mentioned has gone. I will try out the PDA ROM DXHD1 just posted later tonight and see whether it work with the C4 radio ROM.

Thanks. I tried it and the correct key in HKLM\Software\Garmin\que is 'QuePath'. You just need to point that string to your executable for TomTom or whatever nav app you use. I also answered my own question, you can't uninstall Garmin and still get this to work. You have to leave it installed on there. So long as they don't keep prompting me to update my trial version I guess this is acceptable.

Which doesn't seem to install properly on (at least) orange i780s - you can run it but you have to go to the program folder on your device and manually do it because it does not seem to add itself to programs and it tells you the trial has expired as soon as you install it...

I couldn't upgrade with a virtual XP machine, neither on Vista with vmWare nor on a Mac. I solved by installing XP on my Macbook with BootCamp.
You could try with Innotek VirtualBox.

I just wanted to say that I love this rom. It converted my dutch edition to an english edition that actually runs TomTom 6.032 without any GPS-gate or splitter software. I just flashed so I have no idea about battery life etc.

I am realy starting to love this device now it paires with my Ford Car Kit, My stereo headset from plantronics for music and TomTom running without any issues. X-L-N-T!

My unit is fresh from Samsung, and tomtom was the first gps soft i've ever used. Apparently samsung want you to first use the bundled Garmin Mobile XT software to get the GPS activate (hardware wise).

So all i did was install garmin, configured it to connect to the GPS and then clicked on a button saying "activate" in the GPS settings inside Garmins program.

Then i closed garmin and opened tomtom7 and changed to the comport that garmin was showing a successful connection on and it worked! Even after a soft reset it worked. No need for any middle-hand software or anything.

Not sure if this will work for an extended period of time but time will tell. :)

My unit is fresh from Samsung, and tomtom was the first gps soft i've ever used. Apparently samsung want you to first use the bundled Garmin Mobile XT software to get the GPS activate (hardware wise).

So all i did was install garmin, configured it to connect to the GPS and then clicked on a button saying "activate" in the GPS settings inside Garmins program.

Then i closed garmin and opened tomtom7 and changed to the comport that garmin was showing a successful connection on and it worked! Even after a soft reset it worked. No need for any middle-hand software or anything.

Not sure if this will work for an extended period of time but time will tell. :)

Samsung has some ports blocked, please use the Port Splitter (app), i had same issue with the Mapking app...

just to share, PDA phone GPS do not work as effetively or should i say do not get connection as fast as the just GPS device, some times it takes 5 min some times 10 min some time it never get connected at all... i am living in singapore, i have given up using the GPS... i love the phone and PD feture and i love the size of my i780...

I just wanted to say that I love this rom. It converted my dutch edition to an english edition that actually runs TomTom 6.032 without any GPS-gate or splitter software. I just flashed so I have no idea about battery life etc.

I am realy starting to love this device now it paires with my Ford Car Kit, My stereo headset from plantronics for music and TomTom running without any issues. X-L-N-T!

My i780 is having problemens connecting to my Peugeot 207 BlueTooth carkit. If i am able to pair the Bluetooth carkit with the phone, I am experiencing alot of connection troubles. Sometimes the phone connection gets interupted, so I'll lose the connection with my caller. Or sometimes, we have a connection but my conversation partner and me can't hear eachother. Not over the phone, not over the speakers... Nothing.

Really anoying. Can you explain me how you fixed your bluetooth carkit problems? Does anyone else has got a solution, besides waiting on the english ROM?

Thanks friend, I mentioned all the steps and I could regain my i780, but now that happens now have problems with SIM card --> MSJ in phone say "sim unknown status only emergency call can be made without a PIN" (i tried several), the phone connect and disconnect every 2 seconds.

First of all I could not get the links to even work, it takes me to some rapidshare site and gives me an ERROR.

Secondly I have not seen anyone post on here that they have tried the upgrade and got it to work. Also the image of the phone upgraded shows the FONT in HEBREW. Does the ROM image also have English fonts? My Hebrew is not very good :)

When I flash this rom is there a possebility to go back to my original rom? Í have now i780XKHA3 for the phone and the pda. This one is Dutch. But I want to try the HTC home plugin but this is not working for the dutch rom. Only the english roms seem to work with htc home.

Hi,
i have managed to get home working with this rom and realvga and french langage addon. I think it most works with other langage and others rom you have to rename two files in path \windows hh_0409_weathercities.xml to hh_040C_weathercities.xml (040C is code of french lang replace it with your lang code)
and the second htc hdlg.exe.0409.mui to htc hdlg.exe.040C.mui
And the last one is in the path /htchome htchomedll.0409.mui rename it with htchomedll.040c.mui
Make a soft reset and now you have a must have plugin working

I finally got it. I first flashed the old rom (test2) and then afterwards I saw it start up, I disconnected the device, started mirage loader, select the bin file, click on detect, restarted my device without pressing on FN+ENTER, plugged the cable as soon as I turn the device on and it downloaded itand now its working.

I tried doing this but i still get the logo screen frozen on boot up. I've tried flashing the russian as well as test2 and other roms and get the same thing. Can i go back to an old windows 6.0 rom? Or are there any other ideas on what i can try to get my phone back working! thanks

before i flash 6.5 my Samsung i780 use to have a default alarm on wm6.1, I found it really very useful. I have copied it from 6.1 rom, it runs the app but alarm doesnt work. So can anyone help please. May be would be good to extract a .cab package from the 6.1 please. I am sure so many will be benefitted. Thanks in advance.

I am talking about the alarm in the programs, this is not default windows alarm. This is a separate app that comes with samsung i780 6.0 or 6.1 in programs folder. hope its clear now. And i am using a cooked rom which doesnot have that app in startmenu>programs. is it possible to dump that app in a cab installation file for my 6.5 rom?

has anyone noticed regarding the Garmin Mobile XT activation / purchase prompts?

i have already used Garmin Mobile XT many times and it works well; just everytime i lose data signal (GPRS/3G), i was asked for Garmin activation. Seems that it can't find the built in GPS device on the phone itself. (just keep searching for external GPS hardware .... BT..etc.)

do we have any ideas regarding this?
