Is there a way to set the soft keys to enter a "space" or input a "return" or (not as important) make it do "back" like in the sony Clies?
I am using Korean version of Touch Dual and the person who localized it for Korean is clearly a phone person and NOT a pda person -- s/he eliminated the space bar hard key and put a "phone vibrate" mode in instead .
This means i am typing a new appt or memo and every time there is a space, i have take out the stylus and peck at the spacebar/enter on the onscreen keyboard... which oblivates the advantage of having a hard T9 keyboard for most pda apps (although not important for making phone calls). .
actually i need a smiley that is crying b/c i am soooo frustrated...
(i would rather remap space/return to the pie key but everything i have tried on button remapping has not been working, so in desperation i am willing to give up the soft keys just to have a space input so i can lay my stylus to rest..)

Very nice application. Does what it's supposed to do in the most efficient way.
How about adding an option so that softkeys on start page of TouchFlo3D on Diamond can be changed too?
They can also be changed by registry keys, only different than the default today page. However, noone has written an application to do it.

SoftKey Manager can not do something like that yet.
However use a process manager and check the running processes on your phone one of them is probably causing your keys to be altered.
If you can not find the cause let me know, maybe I can help you out.
Hope you resolve this issue and fully enjoy your phone soon. :)

The scope for SoftKey Manager is for all Windows Mobile devices not just HTC devices. :(
I have not yet tried TouchFlo3D, if you can post the registry keys maybe I can write a SoftKey Manager just for Diamond phones. :)

You're right, these keys are specific to the HTC Touch Diamond, but it would be so easy to implement it. Just put a check box named "Diamond mode" and you'll make current and future Diamond users very happy. I can beta-test it if you want.
Here are the reg keys which have to be modified:
under HKLM/Software/HTC/manila/
HomeLSKText ....(name of the left softkey)
HomeLSKPath ....(path to the application of left softkey)
HomeRSKPath ....(name of the right softkey)
HomeRSKText ....(path to the application of right softkey)

I made a special edition for Diamond users :)
Please test and let me know if it works.
Thanks
P.S. If you need a lightweight Launch Application that doesn't take much memory take a look at http://www.fantasticbytes.com/lminfo.php
Edited: Uploaded Wrong Version, Uploading new ones now, Fixed now :)

I have tested your Diamond version with both a Start Menu item and with selecting an .exe directly. In both cases, your application works perfectly. After a soft reset the names of the softkeys are changed and clicking the softkeys brings up the right application.
Thank you very much. I think you have the first Diamond softkey changer on the market (even though it's free) :). Let Diamond users know about it on the Diamond forum.

Please let me know if reset to defaults works. If it does then I will post a link on the Diamond forum.

Hi,
Reset to defaults at first seemed to have no effect on my Diamond. On the application screen, my previous settings stayed. However, I did a soft reset to be sure, and after the soft reset the default soft keys came up.
So return to defaults only works after a soft reset. I think after the defaults button is clicked you should ask the user directly to soft reset.

Works great but quick question.
When in phone screen, I've got video call in left softkey and menu in the right softkey.
I changed the left softkey to contacts but it changed the left softkey on the home page.
How do I change the left softkey while in phone screen?
Thanks,
Mark

Bro, u flashed to V1.93? The video call soft key in the phone mode is very irritating.. Makes it difficult to find contacts. Is the softkey manager able to change the videocall soft key in phone mode?

I think there is an exe file that locks the phone. Search the forum. Just associate that exe with one of the softkeys.

This is unfortunate :(
When applications soft reset a device they ask something like "All unsaved data will be lost. Are you certain you want to soft reset your pocket pc?"
If a program is accessing files and is interupted by a soft reset, this is probably what would happen. You should never have other applications that are accessing files open when you soft reset your device.
The same thing would of happened if you used the stylus to soft reset at that time.
Since SoftKey manager does not access any files, it is not likely softkey manager application which caused this. Some other program was accessing files...
Sometimes you can recover chk files, it used to happen quite often in the Dos days when people would reset while in an application, even up to Windows 98 (before people started using NTFS).
Here are some sites I googled with some more info and tools to recover chk files:
I have not tried this so I don't know if it will work for you the last time I recovered .chk files was in Dos (I did manage to get most of my data back though)...
http://www.ericphelps.com/uncheck/
and another
http://www.diydatarecovery.nl/chkmate.htm
I hope you retrieve your files.
If you could also tell us what programs you had running that would be good, so people can be careful with that application in future.

Thanks for your answer, I tried all you mentioned but no luck so far...
Only active programs at the time were SPB MShell and quickmenu, I have them running in the background all the time. Other than that, nothing.

Don't change the data on the SD Card at all, something similar happened to me when I had a Windows Mobile 2003 device, the Storage Card had some strange files on it and all my files were gone.
I tried to recover the data and nothing worked (i set the card to read only).
The next day I put it in my phone and all the data was back.
I copied everything and formatted the card twice and put everything back.
Since then I had no trouble with that card.
When ever I buy a new storage card, I make sure to format it fully twice, sometimes they aren't formatted correctly when you buy them and I think when you start writing to a certain part of the card it starts doing weird stuff.

Too late for that, I got tired trying to fix it, so I decided to format and hard reset. Nothing like a HR to make you learn stuff :)

Yes their should be a taskmanager link under start menu\programs otherwise just use RescoExplorer or similar app, navigate to Windows folder and create a shortcut for the taskmanager.
BTW, Carolos, thank you very much, as with others this was driving me crazy that I could not change the softkey defaults...your app. works perfectly on my Touch Diamond.

Working really nice this V1.1.
I'm using a Touch Diamond without TF3D. Therefore the option "HTC Diamond Mode" seems a bit misleading. Wouldn't it be better to name it: "TF3D Plugin is enabled"?

Should work, if you don't tick the Diamond checkbox.

Good suggestion, when it was written Diamond was the only device with TF3D.

Excuse me,
which registry key I supposed to edit, if i want to change softkeys during phone is ringing with default wm6.1 dialer, please?
mccune
17th May 2009, 12:33 PM
You can't. The dialer has some references to the sofkeys in a DLL file if I recall correct. This would mean you have to edit the DLL and resign the file.
In most cases this messes up your device completely :(

I know, how unfortunate; I also am unable to get the Left Softkey to keep the 'default' settings. After the soft reset -- as soon as TouchFLO loads -- the buttons remap to HTC's default settings instead of WinMobile's default settings.

Yes, I actually did have it working on the Diamond, albeit not perfectly. A couple warnings:
1) My device fried the next day after using this software. I am not sure it was this software that caused the problem, but I am not sure it wasn't. The moral of this story: back everything up. I am using HTC TouchFLO 3D, and WisBar, both of which have LSK functions (lots of programs trying to do the same thing). BTW: I am using the Touch Diamond.
2) The behavior is not dynamic, but static. That is, you label the button something like 'alarms' or 'notifications' and the button will always say that regardless of whether or not there are any Alerts. I linked the button to WisBar's 'Notifications' shortcut. I do not know how to link it to the built-in notifications feature.
3) After my device fried I decided that I liked WisBar's built in notifications better, and never reinstalled this program.
The file you are looking for is named: "softkeymanager.ARM_WM5 DIAMOND.cab"
It can be found here at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2485292
The instructions say to soft reset your device once you have setup the SoftKeys, but for me that never worked (Soft Resets always discard any Soft Key settings). Rather, to get the settings to stick, here is what I had to do:
1. Start Menu > Settings > Personal > Today > Items > UNCHECK "TouchFLO 3D"
2. Next launch Soft Key Manager and configure the Soft Keys how you like them.
3. Start Menu > Settings > Personal > Today > Items > CHECK "TouchFLO 3D"
