View Full Version : Headphones stopped working - socket or software?

My Orbit 2's headphone socket has just stopped working - the ext usb socket works fine otherwise, it charges and syncs via usb as normal. When you plug the headphones in it doesn't route the sound to the headphones though and any sound that's playing continues to route itself through the rear speaker.
The phone mic and earpiece works as normal.
I figure it's either the socket that's duff or it's software problem. Anyone had anything similar or got any thoughts?
If it's a hardware fault then I think this will be the last HTC phone that I own, it's already been back for repair once and I had to send my last phone (an Artemis) back twice because it packed up and the only other person with an HTC phone here at work has just sent his orbit back because it died on him. Add in the rubbish graphics performance and it's maybe time to look elsewhere.

Answering my own question. Just tried the supplied adaptor in an artemis and it does the same thing as the orbit 2, so looks like it's the adaptor, presumably the plug. I can't have used it more than a dozen times during which time it's been subject to nothing more stressful than sitting in the inside pocket of my suit jacket.
Cheap tat, I think, is what we are spending our money on these days.

I've just spent the last fifteen minutes messing around with said artemis, which has more or less the same software and it's a bit faster and a damned sight more responsive than my orbit 2!!

And the subsequent 15 minutes 'explaining' to o2 customer services that the sale of goods act covers more than just the handset itself...
Off to my local O2 store for some fun tommorrow morning... :D

Woohoo! the jog dial rubber's fallen off again, it just gets better and better! Lasted all of four weeks this time round. O2 must be having nightmares with this phone.

And in the latest instalment of the fishes234 blog, courier arrived this morning with a delightful little Benq flip phone to replace my Orbit 2 :D

Well, after a couple of conversations with Jackie and Sean at O2 I finally got them to replace my broken orbit2 with a not broken orbit 2 and have enjoyed almost a whole month of fully functional Orbit 2, which for me, since April has been a first
Decided to listen to the radio this morning, so popped the headphones on to find that they were only working in one ear. Jiggled the plug around and got it working. The Mrs rang and I tried to hold a conversation using the headphones and mic, except the inline mic doesn't appear to be working any more. I've only used the headphones three times since I got this unit.
Iphones are looking more and more attractive by the day.

Two whole weeks later and I pulled my phone out of my pocket whilst enjoying a refreshing early evening guinness in a local beer garden.
The rubber band thing has gone again.
Am I the only one having this much luck?

stats:
- new phone
- no additional accessories
- nothing installed, except navigation
first indication, somethings 'not really working right way'
> travelling a long way, a sunny day, playing sound & navigation
sounds like one of the 'overheat symptoms'

get answer to this problem:
- software-hard-reset
- checking/ replacing headphones with my friends headphones
>>> only the phone knows the answer ... and htc

After the rubber bit fell off again I rang O2 yesterday to get a replacement orbit 2 sorted out and went through the drill.
This morning the courier delivered an orbit 1 as a replacement.
When I get a proper replacement this will be the fifth unit in three months and the second time they've sent out the wrong phone.
This must be a design fault as I've been pretty careful with how i've treated the phone and it must be costing O2 an arm and a leg!
